"Beloved by beer aficionados for its complex, Belgian-style farmhouse ales, Barrel + Beam is a Michigan treasure. Together with his wife Marina Dupler, Nick VanCourt — an Upper Peninsula native — purchased a dilapidated roadside supper club in 2016. After an extensive remodel it is one of the hippest log cabins around for sipping suds. Don’t miss the kriek, brewed with Michigan cherries, and the duo’s recently added menu of snacks and soups." - Stacey Brugeman

We rented the space for a pre-wedding dinner for about 60 guests and the venue could not have been more perfect. Marina was wonderful and accommodating and so easy to work with, and the crew that helped us throughout the event provided excellent customer service. So many of our guests commented on the great space and ambience - beautiful lighting and linens to accent the special occasion and plenty of room to move around and socialize, even with kids. Simply perfect!

Barrel & Beam was the perfect spot to have our daughter’s wedding dinner in Marquette! I cannot say enough good things about Marina! She was very helpful and attentive in helping us plan our event. We live in the mitten, so she sent us many pictures and communicated with us regularly. She had many great suggestions and even offered us another room for the ceremony if the weather did not cooperate. Barrel and Beam brought the beauty of the UP inside for a perfect evening. The staff on the day of the event were also very helpful and kind! Thank you for making a beautiful ending to their perfect day!

The Marquette County Conservation District has hosted several events at Barrel + Beam, and each experience has been wonderful! Working with their events team is easy, and the catering available by Northwoods Test Kitchen is delicious. B+B provided us with a screen and microphone for presentations, and gave us ample time to set up our own decorations prior to the event start. We will be back next year :)

A diamond in the rough! This was The North Woods Supper Club when I was at NMU 30+ years ago. It was the place. The outside looks a little ragged, it's still really nice on the inside. Great beer, they focus on farmhouse ales and sours... but there was a lager here today. Service is Outstanding!! Love it.

We hosted a bridal shower for my daughter at Barrel & Beam last weekend. The staff went out of their way to make it a wonderful event! They were very helpful in accommodating our group size and helping to make the space - which is already awesome! - intimate and fun. Everyone was cheery and ready to help. I can't say how much this meant to us :) We traveled to the event locale, and yet felt very much at home. The in-house chef provided a fabulous meal and was more than accommodating for food allergies. She created a wonderful menu and everyone raved about the delicious food. The bar staff provided wonderful beverages made onsite and locally - we couldn't have been more satisfied. The rental, alcohol/beverages, and food prices were competitive, if not far lower than other local sites. I highly recommend Barrel + Beam as a party venue!

We rented out the Barrel Room for our wedding reception this weekend. Throughout the months leading up to the wedding, the events team at Barrel + Beam was communicative, patient in answering our many questions, and full of ideas for problem solving. We were able to set up the night before our event which was an enormous convenience, and the space was beautiful for our intimate event (40 people total). We would definitely recommend working with Barrel + Beam for your event!

Google
Barrel + Beam consistently offers top service and event planning. I have used their venue for more than one teacher union event. They make it so easy to book, offer a great space, and communicate well throughout the experience. In addition, the Northwood Test Kitchen is outstanding. Alex recommended a dinner within our budget that many of our guests complimented. Everyone at Barrel + Beam is kind, professional and helpful. We will absolutely be using their services and space for our future events and can recommend them to everyone no matter the size of their event or budget.

Fantastic selection of drinks (beer, mead, wine, cider, etc). Very relaxing atmosphere (low noise, reminded us of a coffee house but with beer). Cute outdoor seating and 3 levels of seating indoors. Great place to grab a drink and play some board games or just relax. We look forward to coming back. Update: we made it back to Barrel & Beam after moving to the area. It was such a warm and beautiful atmosphere. I'm so glad we have a place like this so close to us now.

Yelp
Barrel and Beam has been our favorite spot ever since we moved here three years ago. They always keep things exciting with new ciders, meads, and farmhouse ales -- and their employees make you feel like an old friend every time you walk through the door. The space has this perfect cozy cabin feel, and the fact that it's in the historic building that used to be the Northwoods Supper Club just makes it even cooler. If you're lucky, you'll get to chat with Nick and Joe about their brewing process -- and if you're really lucky, you'll get to try Alex, Aidan, and Carlie's amazing eats from the kitchen. Don't miss the chance to stop by Barrel and Beam!

Yelp
Beautiful setting, wide variety of brews and a very knowledgeable staff. I was here for an event sponsored by the Marquette-Alger Conservation District and our hosts could not be more accommodating. I learned about the restaurant operations, how spent brew grains are used in the compost and what the future plans are for landscaping and waste management. Overall it was an interesting outing in a rustic location. And for the record, I have visited a few times before when it was Northwoods Supper Club. I think the current ownership is treating this landmark very respectfully.

Yelp
Chelsea is awesome, she and Alex helped us plan and host a wedding at the brewery and were so helpful through the whole process. Chelsea is great at the bar and knows a ton about all the beers and drinks.

Yelp
Very cool building. They've got several beers, meads, and wines, mostly farmhouse ales. Draft beer is a pretty good price, however some meads and beers are only able to be poured from a can/bottle and that's more expensive. Kind of wish there were draft options for everything but I get it. The wine is pretty expensive: $35/bottle, so we didn't try any. You can get mead and beer to go and those cans/bottles are slightly cheaper than having them poured on-site. There's a small food menu and. This is where they shine: they have a great selection. We had the beet dip with crackers and the spicy coconut soup, both of which were amazing. I recommend trying a few cheap small pours and getting some of their great food with some friends.

Yelp
I had an outstanding experience with barrel + beam as I used them to host a baby shower. Let me preface this with the point that I live ~500 miles away and did all the planning with Alex (the event manager) via email. To say she was fantastic to work with would be an understatement. All communication was clear, prompt, and consistent. Any time I emailed her I could expect a response within 24 hours. She was super accommodating with my varying needs and incredibly flexible when I came to her later in the planning stages asking for her help with catering. She also coordinates (and maybe does all the work of) the northern test kitchen (NTK), barrel + beam's in-house food offering. To defray costs, Alex allowed us to bring in some food, and was able to supply the heartier things (pulled pork sliders, scratch made mac and cheese, and a delish vinegary coleslaw). All the food was SO GOOD. She also helped with set up, serving, bussing tables, and clean up. She really did it all. I could go on and on about how great Alex was, but I can't write a review without talking about this gorgeous space. I've attached pictures of our set up, but they really don't do it justice. We had about 25 people and had a lot of comfortable space and room to set up games, a gift table, etc. Many of our guests commented on how much they like the venue. As a bonus, it is outside of town and easy to find, so there is plenty of free parking right outside the building! If you're looking for the place to host your next event in the marquette area, look no further! Barrel + beam has it all!

Yelp
We held a graduation party there and everything was wonderfu! The staff was so helpful and friendly. I highly recommend barrel + beam.

Yelp
They were out of a few things when I went and the bartender wasn't very helpful. I had a sour and it wasn't great. The space was cool though.

Yelp
Great location, very cozy seating. We liked the ambiance. The help was very good and friendly. The beer was pretty good but more expensive than other very good breweries in the area. I tried 3 draft beers and really liked one --Piper?? My wife had the red blend wine and liked it. We didn't come for the food, until we found out it was Ramon night--every Wednesday. Apparently it is different every week. We decided to order one of the Ramon special --pork--and the bratwurst sandwich and share each. The Ramon was tasty but was in a small bowl with mostly broth and very few noodles and other goodies, which was surprising, as most places give you so many noodles it's hard to finish. It was not filling at all--felt more like an appetizer cup of soup. Not worth $14. The brat sandwich was totally disappointing---I'd give it a 1. First of all, it came out in a nice crusty warm roll, But the slices of bratwurst were cold. We told the waitress and she gladly took it back to warm up. It was the most bland sausage or bratwurst I have ever tasted. It had the texture of bratwurst, it was wasn't greasy----just no flavor---meat or spices. All I could taste was the roll and a bit of the coleslaw like toppings. We did not get filled up, which was disappointing. Ambiance 5 Service 5 Beer and wine 4 Food 2-3 Price/value 2-3 We will return, but only for drinks.

Yelp
Great service and interesting beer. I am a fan of beer with more depth and richness. If you like light beer this is a brewery to try. I still don't understand why breweries do not offer some sort of food. Having been to many breweries, I can have two beers with some sort of snack and one beer with no snack. Someone is losing money.

Yelp
Nice out of the way place of local beer, wine, mead and cider small food items and snacks. Cozy cabin feel Check it out!!

Yelp
Nice, cute place, but because we aren't UP peeps felt like I was being looked down by the bartender. Great selections of beer and merchandise. However - note to self - accent needs to have more Yooper.

Marc T.

Yelp
Beer was tasty. A number of different types. Amazing space which has struck an interesting balance of history and modern. Very nice bartender who took time to explain the history of the building and the beer choices. Had sone decent snacks as well.

Rachel J.

Yelp
Fantastic beer, lots of space! I got a flight and a pint and all of it was fantastic. A little odd location, but definitely worth the drive over to it!

Yelp
Great beer. Great service. Great vibe. So glad to see a place like this thrive near Marquette. Had a wonderful experience outside. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I have tried many Michigan micro brews. Including enough in the Grand Rapids area to qualify for the Brewsader recognition. While I can normally find one or two beers I like at most it is seldom more than that as IPA's rule the day at most. Barrel and Beam was a refreshing change from that playbook. I liked everything I tried and not any was overly hoppy.

Yelp
We totally fell in love with this place, and we can see why they have a lot of weddings here. The venue is beyond beautiful. All of the beers are top notch, but you have to really like sour beer. We happen to love sour beers, so we went home with a 12 bottle variety pack!! It was not cheap, but we have not regretted it for a minute. Definitely out of the ordinary and worth the trip!

Jeff S.

Yelp
I can't say enough great things about this brewery! Funky farmhouse ales aged in barrels was a first for me and I loved every brew I tried! Most definitely should be the first brewery stop in Marquette if you want unique, complex beers! The food truck was on point also!

Sahar R.

Yelp
If you're in the upper peninsula I highly recommend this amazing spot! The owners and staff are so friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is great, and has an authentic cozy upper Michigan feel. Their beer is fantastic!! We went with some sours and their new saison and we were super satisfied. Definitely stop by, you'll be happy you made the trip!

Yelp
From Vermont and in MI visiting family. Saw that there was a brewery that was doing farmhouse ales in the UP and had to check it out. I didn't sit in, just swung by and picked up some bottles to go. Holy crap their beer is excellent. Not used to this kind of beer being available in MI, and am really impressed with what they produced. I grabbed 4 or 5 different bottles and each one has been unique and delicious in its own way. The wild ale they had (Tuebor) is up there with some of the Hill Farmstead ales I can get here in Vermont. Really balanced with a nice hint of funk. Really well done. Can't wait to come back post-COVID to sit inside and have a real tasting!

Haley A.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! You order up at the bar and the beer is poured into a glass from a bottle. Plenty of seating and split level so easy to find a place that feels more private. Decor is modern meets log cabin. Very fun place to drink beer but they do not serve meals so plan accordingly.

Yelp
What a fantastic place. This wasn't originally on our radar, but after tasting one of their beers at a local reataurant, we decided to go. The staff was helpful and found beers that suited our tastes. Best beer we had in Marquette and it's not even close.
