"The original Pacific Beach location of Barrel Republic is finally getting a full food menu. Launching on Wednesday, November 28; it’s a major upgrade from the popcorn machine that was previously the bar’s only snack option. The Garnet Avenue tasting room, where guests pour their own glasses of beer from more than 40 taps, first opened in 2013; a recent remodel added a kitchen annex, which enables to bar to serve the dishes currently offered at its branches in Oceanside and Carlsbad. Created by executive chef Michael C. Brown, the food offerings includes snacks like ghost chili potato chips and garlic butter pretzel bites to shareable starters ranging from bacon-wrapped pork belly to pistachio-crusted lamb meatballs. There are also salads, flatbreads, burgers, and sandwiches including the crispy avocado grilled cheese and vegan wild mushroom French Dip." - Candice Woo

This place was a gem to find this past Saturday night. It was extremely clean with a decent amount of tables and chairs. They had 48 beers in tap with a genius design for purchasing and tasting each drink. There were multiple TVs with different sports and news channels. The workers took used empty drinks often and kept customers happy. We had an absolute blast and would love to visit again when in the area! The best part is that each beer changes weekly so its always a new experience!! Thanks guys!

This place has gone downhill. Many taps were broken or empty. The ones that worked filled our glasses mostly with foam meaning they are not storing their kegs at the right temperatures. The food was very bland. We went through five salt packets on the spicy mac n' cheese (which also was not spicy at all). We could smell weed coming from the back (keg?) room.

You get a wristband, walk around and check out the 40+ taps of different beers, wines, ciders and meads, hold up your wristband to the one you want to try, pour yourself as much or as little as you want! Great for sampling alot of different beers!! You pay by the ounce. Great atmosphere!!!

Maybe one of the best concepts for a bar I've ever seen. Totally self service with tons of options. You get a bracelet when you get there and tap it against the plack of the beer you want, then pour as much or as little you want.

Great place to sample beer and wine. Over 50 different beers, ales, and meads on tap. About seven wine selections completes the experience. Even if you don't like beer and wine, the food is a great excuse to visit. Not your typical beer food. They have an awesome cheese platter with venison. Their salmon stack is killer. Large screen TVs throughout. They have a burger and fries special all day Monday for only $6!

This is my favorite place to grab a drink... ever! I came down for a day trip from Orange County with the Metrolink weekend pass. It's a short (10 minutes maybe) walk from the train station to Barrell Republic. Although I didn't try the food here, there are several other places to eat in the area in case you wanted to grab a bite. When you first arrive your ID is verified and you are asked to place a card on file. Once that is taken care of you get a wristband that is connected to your card, then the fun begins. There is about 200 different alcoholic drinks to choose from, you simply walk up to the tap, scan your wristband, and then pour however much you please. Each tap has info on where the beer is from and the taste etc. It is actually a wave of the future that I think will catch on everywhere else. Although you have to get up and get your beer, you can dictate exactly when you want to grab your drink instead of waiting. Along with that it is much safer than traditional service, your wristband gets denied if you surpass a certain amount of alcohol. If this occurs to you, then it is at the discretion of the hostess to see if they unlock your wristband. If you are here for a day at the beach, I highly recommend coming here and grabbing a few drinks!
