One of the best sour beers I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back there in the summer so I can sit outside sipping their delicious beers.

If I lived local this would be one of the only breweries I would visit. Their beers were the best in Maine and I mean THE BEST. Yes they had tons of sours which I enjoy (Ripples was my favorite) but all of their beers had an amazing flavor. A lot of breweries will state ingredients but you can’t really taste them. These beers you can. The space is perfect between the relaxing darker inside to the bright sunny yard space. 10/10

Fantastic brewery with a food truck on site. The only reason I'm giving 4 out of 5 is the interior atmosphere can get too loud for any conversation (when it's busy) and the beer menu can sometimes lean too far into one style. A much better mix lately although alcohol percentages are high so it's not always possible to try more than one flight (bring friends and share). Outside food is also allowed and plenty of space for groups.

This was a wonderful brewery with a very strong & perhaps solely focused on barrel aging. I have to admit, this was a quick stop & we had plenty other breweries to visit so we couldn't drink too much & stay too long. The walk in is like walking into the bottom of a mansion with a great vibe. They have a food truck & a large seating area outside. If ever back this way, I intend to call in for a longer visit for sure. The staff was very helpful & kind to us when we asked for samples.

Love this place! Old barrels make for a great ambiance. Tons of sours on tap. Four samples per flight. Fantastic outdoor terrace under the protection of trees. Stouts were too sweet for my liking, but plenty of well crafted IPAs and sours to choose from.

Banana bread barley wine was the best beer I had here today. Tried two flights Dark Matter was second favorite. Weather was amazing, go around back for brewery. The front of building is a law office.

Barreled Souls is tucked away in the basement of a law office. Minimal signage outside, but a full parking lot gives away what's hidden within. A dark and intimate interior gives speakeasy vibes. Tons of barrel aged offerings (duh) and sours. Be forewarned, a lot of these beers come in over 10%, so indulge responsibly! The barely wine was heavenly, I can't wait to come back for more.

**GF MENU OPTIONS!** Stumbled upon this brewery and so glad we did! Very cool atmosphere, friendly staff, and lots of great options for beer drinkers! I'm GF (allergy) and they had a whole portion of their menu dedicated to GF options - it was limited but nice to have!! I got a canned cider. Loved the unique seating. The place is much bigger than it looks! Lots of places to hang and connect both in and outside. We went on a Wednesday evening and there was a corn hole tournament happening. Although asked, we couldn't stay long enough to participate but looked like a fun crowd and good time!

Loved this brewery we stumbled upon while staying in Kennebunkport. It's in the back of an antique home that has a law office inside, but the location is surprisingly large and very cool. Unique barrel-made furniture, fun murals, and a nice outdoor space with seating and cornhole. Great beers, with a good variety. If you're a sour person, this is your spot. We had flights and tried their sours, IPA/DIPAs, and stouts... They also have some gluten-free options as well as some non-beer choices including canned cocktails. If we lived locally, I'd try to join their mug club.

I had my first Barreled Souls Brewing beer in the recent past and was very impressed with my outing with it. I have to say the beer I had definitely had more of an experimental slant to it which is always something I'm on the lookout for. I had the Speakeasy Strawberry Basil Smash which was a gose style beer. Kind of a lot going on with this gose as there is the strawberry and basil thing going on which balances off nicely as well as a bourbon flavor to it too. Gose beers are generally light and come off as a bit more simplistic but this one seems only slightly more complicated with it's flavors but when I say that I mean that in an endearing way and not a negative one.

We went to Barreled Souls Tues 8/20 evening. The array of barleywine, brews and craft ales were amazing; something for every palette. The food truck wasn't open on that day. The 'basement' cellar is aptly decorated with ample & funky seating inside and out. The hospitality and service was friendly and prompt. Wish we discovered this place at the start of our vacation-so many brews, so little time. But we will be back again!

One of the most unique breweries I visited while in Maine. Pulling into the parking lot I was thinking why are we at someone's house. Walking in you pass the outside seating area and some outdoor games. The inside was more like a basement, with lots of barrels, cool seating throughout. The barrel chairs were comfortable and cool. The walls are covered with all sorts of beer bottles from all over. The beer is delicious, absolutely loved their barrel fire triple IPA and continuum ipa. There's a souls society available if your a regular...if only I lived closer! Bartenders were very cool and knowledgeable. The place was very busy, but everyone is friendly. We met and talked with a lot of people. It became a big party. Overall this place is amazing. Definitely can't wait to go back!

Simply amazing experience, great atmosphere, phenomenal beers. IDK what else you'd want...oh the food truck - AMAZEBALLZ!

Barreled Souls is one of my all-time favorite breweries! I live in NY, but I try to go every year if I can! (I even was a member one year). They have an ever-changing menu of delicious and unique beers! If you like beer in any capacity, you will find something there to like - they have IPAs, sours, creamy beers with lactose added, porters, ales, you name it! I've even brought several people that don't usually like beer, and they've all enjoyed it and found ones they liked. Some of my favorites have been the black forest cake beer (please bring it back one day!), a maple pancake beer, the coffee imperial stouts, and some of the goses. I also love the atmosphere - the inside is a cool basement filled with barrels, shuffleboard, and games. The outside is a beautiful space with yard games and ample places to perch. If you've never been, and you like beer, you should make Barreled Souls a destination!

Really enjoyed this gem in the Portland area. We also visited Allagash and Bissell Brothers. BS really stood out in their variety of brews and a different atmosphere. Has a great stout and a couple phenomenal sours, which I wasn't expecting. Highly recommended!

so... why should you come to Barreled Souls you ask yourself? Its not really "on the way" to other breweries... its not really a conveniently placed trip... Because the beer is F'ing awesome. Thats why. They seem to be, shockingly, all about Barrel Aged beer here. Barreled aged Gose, Barrel aged stout... and a few NE IPAs for the nonbelievers. Seriously, their bottles are amazing, and everyone we interact with has been a great person. Worth your visit , A++++

Barreled Souls was a very welcome stop on a recent trip to Maine, so much so that we ended up visiting multiple times over a long weekend. The taproom and outdoor space are cozy and unique, occupying the basement and yard of an old house. They have twenty taps and plenty of beer available to-go. After trying close to half of the tap list available while there I was really impressed with the consistently delicious beer across the breadth of their offerings. All of their beer is barrel fermented and is certainly unique. The Crazy Squares 2.0 was the standout for me, but all of the beers on offer that I tried were excellent. If you're local, lucky you to have this place nearby. If you're in the area and are a big fan of unique beers, this place is a must stop.

This review is based on fond memories. I missed visiting on my last trip to "Vacationland". Although, was curious about all those sours. My memory is solid with stouts and dark ales. They grab my attention all the time since too many focus on IPA's. Regardless, a dear friend of mine though enough of these folks to have his mug in the ready for his next visit. The expectation is anything offered is worth the visit. Enjoy!

Really cute place to go while in Wells Maine. Their beer selection was mostly sours and lagers. Which is right up my alley. I got the mimosa, fruit punch, prickly pear and I can't remember the last one. None of them were really sour, but they are very fruity.

Holy crap they have so much beer. And not only so much beer but so much variety. There is literally something for everyone to find beer they like that has been barrel aged. I had a lovely currant and blackberry sour and my husband tried many things. Covid restrictions were well in place and it was very pleasant to sit far away outside.

This brewery's vibe is the coolest. It's basically an old house that's been converted and the "Biergarten" is a backyard with fire pit seating and stools around barrels. It was just so incredibly relaxing, had I not needed to drive back to NJ I could have stayed all day. The beer list is insane. This is just the front. I didn't even look at the bottles on the back because I knew I'd be incredibly overwhelmed. Boozy stouts and tart sours await you in this backyard oasis.

Great selection of sours, 20 beers on draft. Very good selection overall to please everyone in a group! Cute seating outside, we couldn't use it because it was raining but would be nice on a nice day! Will come back again!

Surprise surprise I am giving another Maine craft brewery a 5 star rating but Barreled Souls may be one of the most deserving. During the summer they have an outdoor area with cornhole being played frequently. Inside though is just as nice, although could be considered on the smaller side. It has just the right atmosphere that reminds me of drinking with friends in college. With some furniture made of old barrels and old cans and bottles scattered throughout from different breweries adds to the ambiance as well. Also helping to push them to 5 stars is the always friendly and attentive staff, even when crowded they greet you with a smile on their face. Lastly on to the part you are probably here to learn about is the beer. Easily one if not the best breweries outside of Portland and that holds true with Portland breweries included. They are not afraid to experiment with trying different things with their beers. I have enjoyed IPAs, barleywines, stouts, and sours, and more styles from them. My personal favorites have been their sours and higher ABV (usually barrel-aged) brews. While sometimes on the sweeter side they nail the flavors. A must stop for beer lovers in the area.

Wow!!!! So amazing. Almost didn't stop because they were listed in several places as not being family friendly and we are traveling with our kids. I'm glad I dug a little further to find reviews saying they had brought or seen children there. Ours are on the older side and we engage them when we go to breweries so it was fine. Definitely not a place to have little ones just running loose though. The beers were phenomenal. We tried a mixture of things since they do 4oz pours and all was wonderful. Sours galore, ipas few but solid, a couple other types tried as well and we loved it all.

The beer here is always unique and delicious. From barrel aged goses (what is the plural of gose?) to amazing stouts you can't go wrong here. They have nice seating areas and offer flights. We always debate whether or not to stop on our yearly Maine trip because it isn't quite on the way. But we always decide to go and are glad we did!

I visited with a friend during COVID, so we didn't get to sit inside. We also timed our visit perfectly with a random passing downpour, so our visit was shorter than we would have liked. I was told to expect greatness from the beer here and I was not disappointed. I wanted to bring everything home - especially the Stay Puft, which we had a few days later. Any future trips to Maine will certainly include a stop at Barreled Souls.

My one and only visit was unfortunately an all too brief stop on our way back home, but man was I pleased with what I walked away with after cashing in a butt load of accumulated brownie points in order to make it happen. The beers/tasters I managed to clumsily rifle through in short order were quite enjoyable, the walk-in garage/basement/speakeasy like vibe indoor seating was warm and welcoming (but cool, rustic and dimly lit in a literal sense), the outdoor seating was nicely laid out, the two people working the counter at the time were both very nice, and all the to-go beer I brought home was well enjoyed. (Unfortunately I'm all out now. I actually thought I had one more can last Saturday and was SO disappointed when I realized I did not.) Even the lady working the food truck that day was incredibly nice! Check out their location and line-up (which will be heavy on the sours, goses and stouts), and if it sounds good to you then definitely check it out!

In my top 3 breweries in the area. Lots of unique options such as stouts, tequila barrel aged sours, goses, single ipas and double ipas. These guys really know what they're doing and usually hit the mark (my favorite is the gosespacho). The space is sort of small and dimly lit, but they have a great outdoor space for the warmer months. They do bottle releases and are now offering cans. Lots of parking too!

I don't know.... The whole dark matter thAng... Tough for me to like. Some of the brews were quite tasty... The sour and gose were prolly the best. The DIPA was straight up just not good - almost undrinkable. Initially when drinking the variety of "dark matters" I was like whoah, this is really good. Then working my way thru the samples they were just too sweet, and too boozy for me. Also very very filling. Get a big ole beer gut after this stuff. I like a Heady Topper, a Second Fiddle, or single Fiddlehead. Locally I think the Lygonia and Allagash Saison are the best things out there. Pretty good beers overall, though with the variety of better beers that are in the immediate vicinity, unlikely to return.

Want to feel like you are at home in your backyard drinking beer? If so, Barreled Souls is your place. Barreled Souls has an outdoor area with cornhole and lawn chairs that is decorated with string lights that makes you feel like you are at home. Inside, they have a handheld shuffle board, which is really fun when you are with a small group of people. Moving onto the beer, Barreled Souls provides intriguing and unique flavors when it comes to their beers. This is definitely a place to try! On Fridays, they have grilled foods for customers as well.

What can I say they make oodles of sour beers!!!! The superman was the best! They also do some seriously great sounding stouts which are all worth a try when they are doing a take on a fluffernutter and smores!!! The taptenders are super nice and loved talking beer especially sours. They have a fantastic logo sweatshirt that I had to buy as this place had such a perfect collection of beers going!!! We sat outside in their adirondack chairs, which is dog friendly but not indoors. They have plenty of seating both in and out and it definitely felt comfortable. We will definitely be on the look out down here for your beers, keep up the great sours!!!!!

Tasty beers and a great little yard are what take this place from good to great. My husband and I have pretty opposite tastes when it came to beer but we were both satisfied with the selection here - for him, the sweeter things like barley wine and cask-aged dark beers; for me, creative and punchy sours. In fact, the superman punch sour was my favorite of the flight. We loved that the staff were welcoming and did not make it awkward that we'd brought our two year old to play at a brewery. The corn hole set in the garden was great at helping us entertain our offspring while sipping our flights.

My partner and I checked this place out a few months ago and I had forgotten to review it! They're quite COVID-friendly, with a great outdoor seating area. I believe indoor seating opens up soon. Their beers are great and I love the tasting-room exclusives that they offer. Staff is kind and we really enjoyed visiting!

Not for the faint of heart!!! When I Visited in late summer, there were six gose and three DIPA's! The flavors in each beer were very intense and in my humble opinion, amazing. Standouts for me were Superman punch gose and Rosemary's baby! I am in awe of the sheer gall this brewery has to make such flavor forward beers that are not usual to most! Bravo!

So happy that I had the chance to stop into Barreled Souls while back in Maine for Thanksgiving! I was intrigued by their varied beer selection, and super impressed with the barleywines, sours, IPAs, and stouts that I chose (in flight form, of course). I love the cozy feel of the place, and the fact that they have card games and shuffleboard to keep guests entertained. I can't wait to come back in the spring to chill in their outdoor Adirondack chairs and enjoy some new brews!

If you love your spirits, you'll love Barreled Souls even more. Constantly pushing the flavor envelope on barrel aged beers! They also have other great tasting brews. Food trucks available on the weekends make for an all around great place to stop!

We have been wanting to stop in since they opened; a year ago, maybe? We finally were without the dogs and in the area free to stop by. They have a nice outside area lit with lots of seating and bean toss (or corn hole). Once you enter you'll pass some brewing equipment and there is a wall of beer bottles facing you. Turn the corner to the cozy tasting room with cards and such. I like the multiple sizes of beers including a 4oz for $1.50! What?!?!? We had 3 8pz beers, a 4oz beer and a freshly filled from the tap growler to go for just under $25 before tip. Nice! This is definitely a chill place to hangout and taste some great beers brewed on site. We'll be back with friends for sure.

I go through "beer phases". Sometimes I'm all about it and sometimes I just need a break. Whenever I do circle back around to loving the sweet nectar of the local gods, I always find that stouts and sours are two of my all time favorites. And wouldn't you know... Barreled Souls does both to near perfection (in my totally uneducated, "just-a-lover-of-good-tasting-things" opinion). Having come with a group on a rainy Sunday at the end of summer we walked past grills and a plethora of adirondack chairs to the brewery and tasting room. Loved how wooden and rustic the decor was, and how warm and inviting the space immediately felt. I can definitely see how people would want to spend their afternoons here; it feels like your in your home brewing best friend's refurnished basement. There weren't too many people when we arrived, however those who were there were clearly locals though: two men played the shuffle board while two other men watched the football game. After a couple hours, the space was filled nearly shoulder to shoulder, though. Good for you, Barreled Souls! Beer samples come in different size options (and they're CHEAP too, so pace yourself!) Besides the games (cornhole is available when it's nicer out, there's also a cribbage board and some decks of card in the tasting room), the amazing furniture made of actual barrels, and the staff seems deeply passionate, the beer - which is why you're coming here since it's the soul (sole) thing they offer - itself is on point. I tried: + Eat a Peach (4.6% ABV): "a sour wheat beer fermented with oven roasted peaches" - SOUR. No, but really, it's SOUR. I'm not sure I entirely picked up on peach exactly, just general fruit. I thought this was smooth, refreshing, and fun... a total warm weather beer! + Quaker State (5.5% ABV): "a traditional Oatmeal Stout with roasted barley and caramelized malts that brings a sweeter rounded malt profile with a roasty finish" - I am a FOOL for not getting this; it was delicious. It tasted so chocolatey and velvety. I could easily see myself drinking this when it's cold outside. I am so excited to try their Nitro version and their Vanilla/Coffee version, too! - MEmosa (5.8% ABV): "a light, clean blonde ale made with orange zest and dry hopped with Sorachi Ace hops" - Personally, it was my least favorite of the three options. But I noticed my usual non-beer drinking friends drank theirs entirely so that definitely says something. I just thought it was a little too bland for me personally and was expecting a real wallop of that orange taste. Unfortunately much of what we wanted to try was "just kicked recently" and would be available "soon-ish"; not really great information if we were planning a return trip but what can you do with such a small brewery? Maybe they should have removed the no longer available options off the board, but it's fine - just another reason to come back and bring more friends! Would definitely recommend this spot to beer enthusiasts!

So, to be honest, I'm not much of a beer expert. Most anything with alcohol works for me. Barreled Souls doesn't seem to have IPAs, which is my favorite, but that barely matters. I've been to most of the breweries in southern Maine and this one may have the best tasting room (Allagash has free tasters and is beautiful. But it's just so big and popular! Barreled Souls is still a secret). The brewery is easy to find immediately after Funtown on route 1 in Saco. They're known for their Burton Union brewing system, which is the only one in Maine and one of the few in the country I believe. About 15 beers are on tap, and most are interesting. This may not be a brewery for purists. Think high alcohol porters and ales, flavored beers, and other fun combinations. Outside are two sets of cornhole and various chairs and music. Inside is a great setup with tables and chairs made from barrels, several sets of cribbage and cards, and shufflepuck. On a Saturday afternoon the brewery was hopping with all ages taking advantage of the games. A flight of 4 tasters was $8, which is reasonable compared to other breweries. Barreled Souls, unlike most other local breweries, is open every day and late on weekends. For a casual great time, this is the best tasting room around.

Walking into this place is an experience in itself... You go down into their cellar? basement? dark and rustic tasting room. All jokes aside this place has got some strong character to match its equally strong beer. This was last on our list of breweries to hit out of Portland and we were so happy we did not skip over it! We ordered a flight which was LITERALLY $6 (coming from SF this is unheard of) and loved everything-- our group favorite was actually Strawberry Jam (4.6%) which is a REALLY good sour beer and actually the lightest one on the list, so if you think you need to order something strong and heavy here think again. We also indulged in Dark Matter (10.1%) and Hillrock Bourban Barrel Aged Honey Pot (14% whooOo if you like sweet and strong get this) and Mocha Grande (7.5%) which were all really unique and something we wouldn't normally try. A no-nonsense brewery that you wouldn't find anywhere else, definitely give it a try if you're in the area!

Like visiting a place that is cash only or walking down a back alley, going into the basement of an old home is pretty much a guarantee that you will have a cool experience and drink some serious beers. Barreled Souls lives up to their name and provides some heavy hitting brews appropriate for the colder climates of Maine. Their Honepot 12.9% wheat wine was delicious, but will knock you out with more than a taster. Their Quaker State oatmeal stout with orange and chocolate was subtle, but nice when it warmed up a bit. Rosalita was a nice sessionable blonde variant that would probably be my go-to, if I actually lived closer, along with the 3.8% Half Shilling. They certainly have some bold flavors and high gravity brews, but don't play that one note. Two shuffleboard tables and great for visitors and rustic barrel-themed seating give the place an even cozier feel than you initially expect when walking inside. This may seem like more of a beer geek kind of destination, but there was a bachelorette party that came in on a snowy Saturday afternoon on April 1st that provided a nice contrast to the standard bearded clientele. Barreled Souls may not be the most popular brewery in Maine, but they are certainly worth adding to a beer tour when visiting Portland. A nice contrast to the more glossy experience at fan favorite Allagash, these brewers know what they are doing and are carving out a nice niche in Vacationland.

They have excellent beer here!!! I love their space gose, strawberry fields and the rose. Nice rustic and easy going atmosphere too! In the summer you can drink a beer and play corn hole on the lawn and if its cold out, they have shuffle board inside.

Place was jumpin! Seriously packed. Good for them. Beer was decent. Probably the best I had while visiting 5 or 6 breweries in TX. I'd go back.

With this being a kickstart establishment, it makes you appreciate the hard work in craft brewing even more and to see someone like this place be successful with big boys like Shipyard, Allagash and Bissell around, all of the beers that we tried last night were fresh, tasty and you could tell that they love what they do and they put that love into their craft. The entrance is in the back of the building in Saco but it is in a basement and everything is themed from the Barrels in the title around the entire room. The seats are barrel carved into lounge chairs and the pew style chairs along the back wall ae great for a group setting. There was a shuffleboard in the corner with scattered cribbage boards around the tables in the area around the seats. The brewer was so nice that when one of the people in our group randomly stated that they wanted to eat a hot dog, he fired up the grill and cooked hot dogs for anyone that wanted it. The prices were right and the staff was friendly. I personally had the Quaker State which was a delicious oatmeal stout and a craft brewed Dubble and it was amazing. Well done! Only draw is that it is out in Saco and not closer to Portland because if it was, I would be there every night!

Barreled Souls was our last stop on our brewery tour. Of the three places we stopped today this was by far our favorite. The atmosphere took a few minutes to adjust to, but the beer was amazing and far better than what we sampled at Allagash and Bissell Brothers. Keep up the good work!

One of the most unique breweries I've ever encountered. They have a little bit of everything (IPAs, sours, stouts, etc), but their best stuff is definitely the higher ABV stuff. The brewery itself is quite dark inside but offers a cozy spot in the winter. During the summer you can relax outside and play cornhole.

We went to 4 breweries while in the Saco/Biddeford area, and while they were all good, this was hands down the best beer! The atmosphere was great, the beer was tasty, and we enjoyed playing some card games! We also got a couple bottles to go - it's been such a treat to have at home!

Cool basement brewery with great selection of sours. Cornhole outside and table shuffleboard inside. Grabbed a four-pack of one of their beers for around $15, which was a steal to us.

Overall a good brewery with a lot of beer options. A little hole in the wall vibe with quality beer. Their website is not always up to date but other than that it's fine.

OMG... Great beer list, awesome location, great people. The brewery is very comfortable to hang out in, the selection of beers are fun to try. I really enjoy the sweet side of their beers, not to sweet but enjoyable. I was floored by all the beer they had one in particular was called a Milkshake beer, it was to die for yummy. We will be back and then some

This has to be the best place to get a craft beer in southern Maine. All of the beers here are extremely unique and pack a punch. Have you ever heard of a beer that has been fermented with food like doughnuts or cherry's at 14% alc. The flavors are extremely impressive. If you stop by I'd recommend honey pot or any of the dark matters if they are on the draft at the current time. Keeps me coming back over and over with their friendly staff. This place is a must visit.

I can't believe I've lived in Portland for 5 years and have never been here! Barreled souls has a fantastic beer selection- I actually enjoyed every beer I sampled, which doesn't happen often. The atmosphere is a little dungeon-y, but in a good way. It is very dark, so I wouldn't come back on a summer day, although they do have a small outdoor area with games. The indoor portion had cards, cribbage, and 2 indoor shuffle board tables. We had a blast! We will definitely be returning to this gem.

Great local spot for fresh brews. Staff is always friendly and on top of their game. Cornhole boards outside + tournament every Thursday open for anyone to join.

If your looking for a really cool spot to enjoy a few beers this may be the place for you. It has a basement feel, but a really cool vibe. The brewery puts out some really great stuff. I tried everything I could, it was really cool to see they offered 4 oz pours. I ended up buying a few of their 4 oz glasses because they were so badass. They don't can yet which was disappointing. I would have loved to bring back some beer. They do offer growler fills which is a nice option. The staff was all pleasant and very helpful when sampling what they had to offer. It's definitely worth checking out if your in the area or passing through.
