"This brewpub opened on the island in 2019, brewing everything from an amber lager and wheat ale to hazy and double IPAs and seasonal beers. The beer-friendly food menu features bites like a stuffed pretzel board, scallops and hash, a steak sandwich, and, of course, a pub burger. Unlike many breweries, the seating at Barrier Island Brewing is more restaurant than taproom." - Eater Staff

I’ve been here twice now and both times the food and service were fantastic. The first time I went, I sat at the bar and the bartenders were top-notch. The second time I got a table and the wait staff was equally impressive. This place is my new favorite.

Google
Wonderful spot! Service was good. Had the Beer Cheese Dip; soft pretzels were amazing. I wish I had just one more! We got the Pub burger and the special which was Steak Tacos with grilled corn and pickled onions. Sweeter than I was expecting, but ok. Burger was good. Absolutely loved the beignets, marshmallow sauce for the win! Drinks were delicious as well, got the special again which was a spicy blueberry martini, highly recommend.

Google
What a terrific spot. Beers were great and the food amazing. I had a bowl with quinoa, shrimp cakes, corn and slaw. My family had the shrimp platter and chicken wings. Everything was delicious and fresh. The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy with seating available inside and out. Really fun place with delicious food and beer.

Google
1st time visiting from Jax, and we randomly chose a restaurant for our first dinner. We chose right! Food was a 10/10, service was 10/10 (very friendly and attentive), and the atmosphere was a 10/10. Also, I’m not a beer drinker, but the Ocean Avenue Blueberry Wheat was sooooo good! Will definitely be on the top of our list when we return.

Google
We came in for drinks as the last stop on our trip in the Golden Isles. I got a flight and all the beers were excellent, especially the "Red-Right-Return" red ale. The cocktails were also fantastic. Nice island vibe inside and cozy but not crowded. Service was excellent. We will be back!

Google
We stopped in for a beer and appetizer just out trying to kill some time. Our server was Lindsey, and we went with her recommendations on both, she was great. We had two light drafts and the beer cheese pretzel appetizer. We sat outside and enjoyed the vibe. Great little place to stop in!

Jake Trecer

Google
Food, service, and style all hit their mark. Staff is friendly and bartenders knows his drinks. Food was delicious and beer selection is unique and satisfying. Even their signature beer (Ocean Blvd Blueberry Wheat) was surprisingly good, though I try to keep fruit away from my beers. Cheers!

Google
Had a lovely date night with my hand at this establishment! The cuisine is great, the atmosphere is great and the service was excellent! They’ve got a great cocktail menu and the burger and pork sandwich are excellent, as are the cheese curds.

Yelp
We had the opportunity to stop by Barrier Island Brewery after a long bike ride on St. Simons. Was expecting a relaxed beer joint - and it is much more. Very casual, but good beer, good specialty drinks, great food. Drinks included local beers (tasted 4), cucumber collins, smoked mirror (old fashioned) and a few others. Food included a great beet salad, wings (srirachi and bbq), fish tacos (3 large blackened maki tacos), pork sandwich... plus bacon wrapped dates, heat/sweet brussel sprouts. All were really flavorful and great. Every plate was eaten clean. Ansley, our waitress was also top quality. She was awesome. A new favorite place for casual dining in St. Simon's.

Kelly J.

Yelp
We ate here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. We were seated right away outside on the covered patio and there was a man there playing music that was really nice!! They also have cornhole which is nice. We had Brussels sprouts- delicious! Shrimp cakes- crispy and flavorful (not too fishy) Pork chop sandwich- HIGHLY recommend-- super tender and melts in your mouth!! Fish n chips- crispy on outside but tender inside. Barely any batter which I really loved!! The only item that was mediocre were the French fries. Besides that it was phenomenal!

Michael O.

Yelp
Great spot on SSI to sit & relax. Go to the bar and the folks behind (Matt, Cory & Morgan) will be there to make your favorite beverage or just pour a Barrier crafted brew or a glass of wine. The skillet with chips & steak is awesome as an appetizer before you decide on an entree. Everyone I have ever dealt with at Barrier has been attentive & friendly. If you do go to the bar and Cory is serving as him to tell you his dad jokes! Some good, some not so good! Anyway, you'll have a great time!

Brenda H.

Yelp
Def eat outside. Inside it's too cold and noisy. We didn't have beer, we had wine (sorry, we were there for food). We had great service, and delicious beet hummus. We also ordered the stuffed pretzel (which isn't actually stuffed) and a cheeseburger (with the garlic aioli on the side . The food was def top notch! Would go back!!

Bren H.

Yelp
Wonderful evening here! Great service - waitress was attentive and checked on us a ton. All food came out very quick to the table - keep in mind restaurant was fairly busy this Tuesday night. We ordered Brussels sprouts to share with a party of 3 which was perfect. The sprouts were the perfect crisp for us and the sweet and sour sauce paired so nicely! I ordered the chicken Caprese sandwich and it is served with pesto, grilled chicken, roasted sun dried tomatoes, and crispy onion straws. It was scrumptious. It was a large serving and each of us had leftovers. They surely don't skimp out on the French fries here! Def recommend checking out this cute little place while in town. Cute vibes and excellent food and service! Side note you do pay table side with the tablets here.

Amy N.

Yelp
Fun casual spot a few blocks from St Simons public beach access where you can bring a group, featuring their own beer selection. Brought a party of 8 here that needed a range of veg and/or chicken-only options and everyone seemed to find something that worked for them. Everyone at the bar was very impressed by the smoking old fashioned presentation, and the charcuterie pretzel was a great concept to have with drinks. The group enjoyed the Brussels, beet hummus, and cheese curds - we really didn't need entrees but got them anyway (fish and chips, caprese chicken sandwiches).

Sheldon A.

Yelp
Came in for lunch on a Saturday with a large group and were told there would be a wait. No big deal as we didn't have reservations and our party was over 12. They offered to seat us quicker if we broke up our party, which was also ok. Some people sat down and the others were told they could sit and drink at the bar until the table was ready. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have the hefeweizen or any wheat on tap, but the Bloody Mary was delicious. Once seated, I ordered the potato chip skillet which is NOT nachos but was still awesome and filling. As far as dessert, the beignets were good but they were much more similar to donuts and not beignets; however, they were still great.

Patricia M.

Yelp
We stopped by the other day because we had heard about their pretzel board. Wow everyone was right. What a fun idea - the charcuterie is essentially wrapped within a pretzel. Two nice dipping sauces, a good amount of cold cuts. If you like olives you are in luck as there were quite a few of those again. Would definitely stop by again. Service was great.

Cindy C.

Yelp
Great lunch on patio with our friend who lives on the island. We brought our two pets (dog/puppy) and our 7 year old. We had their yummy brussel sprouts, son had their brunch French toast, our friend had their burger/fries, hubby tried the fish and chips and I had their beet salad that was fantastic. Great live music by a single artist who played a wide variety of tunes which was just the right kind of music for a lovely Sunday afternoon. The weather was perfect for the patio dining. The inside was very artsy/creative in the design and looks like a place locals and visitors can enjoy any day of the week. The bar was very inviting for stopping in and grabbing a cold beverage and their drink menu included mimosas and a good selection of craft cocktails and draft beer. We had a long trip home so we skipped adult beverages today but plan to return and enjoy this great venue again next time.

Cara E.

Yelp
We were in St. Simons visiting family over the weekend, and we had lunch on Sunday at Barrier Island Brewing. They have a great outdoor seating area, and had live music while we were there. It was a little too warm for us, so we sat inside. It's got a great atmosphere inside, too! I started with a basil sour cocktail that was incredible. It was just basily enough to be unique, but not too much that it overpowered the drink. My husband and I shared the sweet and sour crispy Brussels sprouts and the cheese curds. Both were so yummy. My family ordered the pretzel charcuterie board, as well as the bacon wrapped dates, and they enjoyed both. The servers were very friendly, and it seemed like they had a good amount of staff working. We will definitely be back next time we are in town!

Yelp
This place was recommended to me by a coworker and since he knows how picky I am, I decided to take him up on the recommendation. Barrier opens @ 4:30, we pulled into the parking lot at 4:27 and were happy to see the doors were unlocked and there were people at the bar. We grabbed a table and were greeted by a friendly male waiter. He asked us for drink orders and brought water. When he returned we were given the specials for the day and decided to go with the honey siracha wings (well done) for the appetizer, fish and salad (I subbed fries). My partner had the steak sandwich with fries. After a short wait, our wings arrived. They were nice and plump. However, they weren't "well done," so I didn't enjoy them as much as I would have liked. Soft wings, just aren't my thing, but the flavor of the honey siracha sauce was fantastic!! Kudos to the chef for the sauce. I had a few wings and left what was left for my coworker. The entrees arrived in a timely manner. My fish was nice and hot. It was a flaky cod that was "meaty", tender and cooked well. Tarter sauce accompanied the dish. I tried some of the tater sauce, but still asked for some Old Bay. I just like the taste of Old Bay on my fish. My salad was the perfect side. I really enjoyed the house made ranch that accompanied the salad. Now, I had the pleasure of trying the steak sandwich my partner ordered. It was soooo GOOD! I'm not sure, but I believe I tasted a pesto sauce with peppers on top of the steak. The roll was the perfect combination of soft and firm in the right places. He offered to let me have more, but I didn't want to steal his food. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at this establishment and would return just to order the steak sandwich. Haha.

Mar G.

Yelp
Food is consistently good. Options for vegans and vegetarians. House chips are very yummy. Also super affordable, and the patio is a nice way to enjoy the weather

Claudia A.

Yelp
Update we came back!!! This time we had Skillet chips!! So good!! And again with the giant pretzel and Pelican spit Beer!! Great service and great food!! Omg the Beignets!!!

Chris W.

Yelp
Wow, how refreshing! Every time we visit a new place we make a point to try any local brews and/or spirits that may be available. Frankly, we're usually disappointed by the results but Barrier Island Brewing was a very refreshing exception to the norm. Not only were the beers very good, I was part of a group of 3 and we all got flights, but the decor and food were confusingly good....let me explain. I don't expect "fancy" when going to a brewery, but from the food to the building itself this place was very nice...I'm NOT complaining. Lastly, the staff were very friendly, which was also refreshing considering that after being in Saint Simon's for 3 days we realized that most of the people we've come across here aren't very friendly. Ultimately I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone that's in the area, regardless of if you are drinking or not. The food is that good as well as the brews

Vanessa M.

Yelp
Great food! Great service! Really enjoyed ourselves. Brussels sprouts are fantastic. Great little gem tucked in the corner. This will definitely become a regular spot when we are in St. Simon's.

John G.

Yelp
Went to dinner with 7 of my coworkers this evening. The outside ambience Is quite nice. Especially with the outdoor fire pit lit. We all shared the pretzel appetizer and cheese balls which were all tasty. I had the pub burger with mozzarella cheese & 2 draft blondes. Very large portions and perfectly cooked. My wife had the shrimps & grits which was delicious & and Aperol Spritz. We will definitely be coming back and recommending this restaurant to family and friends.

Joshua B.

Yelp
We stopped by twice on our recent visit to the island. The first time was for beers and we enjoyed all of them. Morgan was an awesome bartender that gave us some good recommendations. We came back in the evening to enjoy a few cocktails. Everything we had was tasty. Service was great and we enjoyed our time here. Solid spot worth checking out.

Karley M.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped by here on a Sunday and absolutely loved it. Staff was so friendly and informative and let us know about their happy hour specials (4:30-6 everyday). Ambience was laid back with beautiful but subtle beach decor. The beer was absolutely delicious, I loved the hazy IPA and my husband enjoyed the regular IPA. The craft cocktail list and food menu were both drool worthy and we can't wait to go back and try. We're new to the area and scoping out our new favorite spots...but this will definitely be one of them.

Tanya J.

Yelp
Nice place to get dinner if you're staying on SSI. We got there around 7:30ish on Saturday night, and it was PACKED! We had about a 40 minute wait and we're able to sit at the bar for a bit, after awkwardly standing by the fire pit LOL! Service was absolutely amazing. Everyone from the bartenders, waitress, and to the hostess we're patient and not annoyed with my billion and 1 hangry questions (even though they should have been)! My boyfriend got the burger, and he said it was really good. It and the fish and chips (which I got) came with fries and house made chips. Honestly, really good. There also were a ton of sauces, me being the sauce queen that I am, loved that I was able to have a bunch to try. The beer cheese that came with the pretzels was one of the best I've had ever. There was another type of cheese melted with it that made a huge difference. Prices were a little higher, about $18 for a burger and around the same price for my fish and chips, but we enjoyed the food all the same.

Teddy W.

Yelp
The service here was awesome! We just ate across the street prior to coming here so we did not get food. My buddy and I sat at the bar. I tried a lightly fruity wheat beer that I really liked, but I ended up going with the Pilsner as it is my preference. We had 2 beers and called it a night. The ambiance was cool. You could see the fermentation tanks in the other room. They did have a lighting issue at some point which apparently had happened before. I love the name of this place. I wish they had their merch more featured. I would have considered buying a shirt.

K K.

Yelp
Food was pretty bad overall. We ordered apps- to start with the intention of ordering dinner. Glad we didn't. Chicken wings came out almost raw and the salad lettuce was brown. It really was overall bad. Once we got our apps we realized we couldn't trust ordering dinner. Service is spastic. Someone takes your order, someone else brings your food, you ask for a drink or a side of something and neither show up. I don't plan on going , unless maybe for a beer. We ordered some but we didn't even get a chance to try one because it never showed up.

Laura B.

Yelp
Must go! BIB is a gem in SSI, A lot of people don't know about something that is right under their noses. It's hiding on Ocean Boulevard near The King & Prince. Small but mighty! Barrier Island Brewing is welcoming from the first step in the door. We sat at the bar and met Trey and Kory, our bartenders! These two were great to talk to and we had a great time. Their food suggestions were outstanding! Excellent food. Swing by and sit at the bar! Great experience!

Ray G.

Yelp
My wife and I came to Barrier Island Brewing for dinner and drinks. The service was very attentive. We had the Pretzel Charcuterie Board and it turned into dinner for both of us. The melange of flavors was outstanding! Cool little beach bar that is unpretentious.

Angel H.

Yelp
#barrierisland #wings #takeout #happy the wings here are unique. They're not skinny and they're not too much nice size great #flavor their takeout is always fast and ready at the register on time #vacationers they're not too far from the beach and have outdoor seating too

Stephen C.

Yelp
Great food, friendly service, I like they have servers and bussers. makes dining room run way more efficient and show's that owners care about their servers. The beer was ice cold and delicious clean flavors. Speed of service was on point. Enjoyed 2 meals over the 4 days we were in town. Highly recommend this spot.

Lauren K.

Yelp
Barrier is still one of my favorite things on the island. The staff are super friendly and highly attentive. It makes for a great day experience every time. My favorite beer is the blueberry wheat paired with a big pretzel. All the food and beer is very good. You can't go wrong with anything here. We like to sit outside at the fire or under the heaters which are warm and cozy. In fact, we prefer outside even though the inside is quite nice too. Parking can be tricky in summer. Plan ahead. See website for hours, location, sample menu, and more details.

Carlo O.

Yelp
I went here with moderate expectations. I figured it was another brewery with good beer and good food. I was WRONG. It had great beer, and great food. The blue Berry beer sounds a bit fruity, but dang it was good. The Steak Sandwich was perfect in every way. The wings were delicious. The bacon dates were a big deal, and the pretzel sharcooooooodary board or how ever you spell it was a HIT!

Glen S.

Yelp
Best fish and chips I've ever had. Full stop. This is a recent menu add, but honestly the best that I can remember. Served piping hot with a mound of shoestring fries and fresh made tartar sauce. The strength of this dish is anchored in the delicious beer batter. It's warm and flavorful and nuanced. The fish was cooked perfectly and flaked well. We started our meal with the charcuterie stuffed pretzel and finished with the beignets- I do justice with words to a scrumptious hot dessert after that meal. This was great meal.

Craig H.

Yelp
Contacted B I B about a rehearsal dinner in 4 months. Int spoke to hostess referred me to manager . After over a week and a few follow calls to BIB with no response to our request, we just drove over and spoke to Manage ( whom was responsive to providing an outdoor venue in 4 months. He suggested contacting owner via Email Re: our discussion. Well it's been way too long For no reply from the owner. The owner Blake did us a wonderful favor by not calling us ! Thanks. We no longer want your services! We are fortunate That we had no problem finding a place to accommodate our event. Your loss for not having the respect to respond to our initial request.

Margie P.

Yelp
Nice bar, good beer, enjoyed sitting on the patio! Friendly service! We didn't have any food, but it looked and smelled delicious.

Anastasia W.

Yelp
Really cool place! I had no idea it was a restaurant as well as a brewery! They had a ton of food options including seafood along with their made beer! I didn't get anything but the blonde beer which was really good! But the bartender was super nice and let me sample a ton of their drinks

Grant H.

Yelp
Great ambiance and atmosphere. We were pleased to find it is just as much a restaurant as a brewery. Very good food and drinks. Friendly and attentive service.

Timothy M.

Yelp
Wow. Excellent food. Excellent atmosphere. Excellent service. And good pricing as well. I would recommend this place to any and all of my friends.

Ansley J.

Yelp
Soooo good!! Extremely fast service, we received four entrees before we finished our appetizer! The house chips with cheese and steak were amazing! One of the best appetizers I've ever had. Somewhat limited menus, only 5-6 entrees. Fish was light and crispy. Would had gotten dessert but we were so full from the chips! Definitely will be returning.

Brittany D.

Yelp
We ( a group of about 28 of us ) made a last minute decision to change venue for a birthday celebration. The hostess did her best to accommodate us, especially with it being the last minute. We sat outside covered patio with a few tv's. A small group of us sat inside near the bar. We were helped by exceptional waitresses CHELSEA and RACHEL! They were the best! Patient, friendly and accurate! Drinks and food: I ordered a blueberry martini and a margarita! Strong and flavorful. The blueberry was my favorite. I kept it simple and ordered the fish and chips. No complaints. For dessert I ordered the chocolate chip cookie and ice cream. The dessert was definitely the cherry on top of this experience. Warm, soft and gooey chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream. I sampled my friends beignet which came with an assortment of dips: marshmallow, chocolate and I believe one other dip. It was a little more dense than what I'm used to, but still pretty good. Overall, what really made this experience exceptional was the service. A+ Thank you.

Duncan W.

Yelp
The food is great, good beer and nice people. We are coming back to have dinner in a day or two.

McKenzie F.

Yelp
Alyssa K. was an AMAZING waitress!! She kept up with our orders in a timely manner and was super friendly and made us feel very welcome! On top of that, the food was incredible! We had a pretzel charcuterie board and wings. We will definitely back!

Sofia P.

Yelp
I came here several times when I was in town. The food here is amazing! So are the drinks and desserts! The service is awesome specially the bartenders! The ambiance felt like a modern /home vibes. I definitely recommend this place!

Teri M.

Yelp
Seriously one of the best burgers I have ever had! The chicken caprese was amazing as well. Steak sandwich was really good, but my husband was definitely disappointed he didn't order the pub burger! Service was great even with a very busy Friday night during peak travel season.

Caitlyn S.

Yelp
One of the best spots on the island! It's rare to find a place where EVERY thing is great. The food and beer were both delicious. We visited for lunch and our server was very attentive. Maybe the best part, their water is triple filtered!! (No hate on the usual tap water around the island but....). We will definitely be back!

Charles C.

Yelp
What a gem on St. Simmons! The bar staff were consummate professionals and used top tier ingredients in their libations. They earned the right to become called mixologists. The craft beers were tasty with many styles and options to choose from, i would recommend doing the sample flight. The food was sophisticated bar fare without being pretentious. The servers were fantastic and very attentive. This restaurant was the culinary highlight of our trip.

Cassidy S.

Yelp
Restaurant style brewery. Great services! We got the dates, beer cheese dip, Brussels sprouts, and kids chicken tenders and fries. Dates were great but very sweet. I'd prefer a diff cheese than blue cheese inside. Beer cheese dip was good, the onion crunchies on top made it better. Brussels sprouts were a tad oily but super delicious. We are big beer fans. I loved the raspberry golden brown and my husband liked the Juicy pale ale. I wish they did crowlers! Fun kid "toy" and a decent kids menu! (Grilled cheese, hamburger, chicken tender).

Joe S.

Yelp
We loved this atmosphere and the food but had a horrible experience when we got charged $22 for an old fashion with whiskey from a $22.97 bottle on wine.com. The manager was rude and the waitress came back with she drinks $20 old fashions all the time here and not at all helping the situation. Please make this better so the less fortunate can enjoy this island with everybody.

Ed S.

Yelp
Very cool small-brewery vibe with tasty beers and food options. Dog-friendly. We had a couple of starters and they were very good. The wort is made overseas to their specs and they ferment it here. Interesting business model. The beers were all quite nice. Nothing too adventurous but we didn't expect that.

Anna L.

Yelp
I have had consistently great experiences here for several years. This past year, they've been so great I figured I needed to write a review about them! We came here for lunch on my sister's bachelorette weekend and had Chelsea as our waitress, she was great, so friendly, attentive, and the best service we had the whole weekend! We stopped in again while visiting family over the holidays. We enjoyed the pretzel charcuterie board, tasty beer, and live music. Our waitress was Regan and she was also excellent. Can't wait to come back again next time.

Champ K.

Yelp
Great service. Great food. Brussel sprouts are some of the best we've found. Beer is on point and they even have Aperol spritzes! Must visit if you're around

Stacy L.

Yelp
Great food, great drinks and beer and wonderful service. Loved the indoor and outdoor space. You may have to wait but grab one of their beers and enjoy!

Heather M.

Yelp
From the fig old-fashioned and the fish n chips to the sweet server with a southern accent (and southern manners!), Barrier Island did not disappoint. My husband described this as "a find" because we detoured on a road trip home, wanting a leisurely and delicious lunch. Our only disappointment was that we couldn't buy the beer in cans to take home. We will be back!

Jessica S.

Yelp
Barrier is my go to whether I want to eat healthy and fresh or have my guilty pleasure the pretzels and beer cheese! Love this place. Servers and bartenders are always very attentive and it's a great place to relax

Jennifer J.

Yelp
In a very expensive area, the prices here are slightly more reasonable. Hostess staff was super nice. Waitress was friendly. Bartender was great. My special margarita was delicious and my husband's Basil Sour with bourbon instead of vodka was excellent. The pretzel charcuterie board is a fun & tasty twist on a classic. Great beer cheese. Burger and steak sandwich were average, but still good. I'd come back!
