"Mexican-inspired, experimental dishes and petite tacos layered with unusual embellishments like chayote slaw and chimichurri create the dynamic flavor experience at Barrio Costero. The expansive cocktail menu follows suit, with a wide range of bright and zesty drinks." - Celia Buckley, Melissa McCart

Google
A delicious culinary experience!!! I knew nothing of the restaurant, made a res, and was incredibly surprised and impressed by the level of cuisine! The Carnitas dish was one of the best things I've ever eaten. The Crema Agria was so creative and flavorful...ice cream for dinner? Amazing! We also had the Tlyada Azul which we were not as obsessed with, but still yummy. Can't wait to come back.

Barrio Costera in Asbury Park, NJ, is an absolute delight! The coastal-inspired decor is both modern and cozy, making it a perfect spot for any occasion. The craft cocktails are expertly made and pair wonderfully with the food. The seafood paella is a must-try—packed with fresh seafood and perfectly seasoned rice. The tapas selection is also impressive; each dish is thoughtfully prepared and bursting with flavor. Don’t miss the grilled octopus and patatas bravas! Thursday night is all happy hour!!! Must try Tacos de cauliflower Ceviche

First time coming to barrio costero and it such a great experience. Lucas our waiter explained everything from how the food is served and which plates he recommended. I had a spicy margarita with a chile lime rim and wifey had a white sangria. Everything was fresh, delicious, perfectly cooked and at the correct temperature. Randall the manager came over to see how our dinner was going and chatted with him a bit. Overall we had a 10/10 experience here and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a Mexican date nite with delicious food, drinks, good mix of music and atmosphere. We’ll be back.

Google
This place reminds so much of spots like Cosme in NY or Pujol in Mexico city...I feel like the chef here has to to a desciple or at least inspired by Enrique Olvera...the food was absolutely insane, like next level....the mezcal selection was off the charts. The tuna sashimi was so fresh and the kilo of carnitas, served with a bunch of sides and fresh made tortillas was to die for. This is the dish that reminds of the famous duck carnitas at Cosme. I'm going back multiple times this week alone

Google
Little quiet for brunch, but great service and selection. Try one of the tequila samplers that's fits your style and of course a cocktail with ceviche. Best tequila find in a while. You won't be disappointed.

Google
Amazing food! Almost the entire menu is gluten free, including items that usually wouldn’t be (like wings). We had the wings, nachos (which were more like tostadas), kale salad, 3 different types of tacos, and the sweet potato fritters for dessert. Great drinks too, including non alcoholic (had a great non alcoholic spicy marg that tasted just like the real thing). Great service and experience!

Google
They have the best margaritas. Sometimes the menu options are a little out of the box but nothing wrong with that. They have delicious vegetarian options, great guac, and an impeccable ambiance.

Melissa Bruno

Google
Food and ambiance were great! Service was okay. Our waiter was new and learning the menu. I had the vegetarian tacos. Hands down the best vege tacos I've ever had. Think: party in our mouth. So good! My daydream cocktails was so refreshing. I would definitely go again when I'm in the mood for tapas and cocktails.

Yelp
This past Sunday, my friends and I visited Barrio Costero for a very late lunch, and it was an exceptional experience. The ambiance was vibrant, perfect for our group of four to unwind (after a few hours baking in the hot sun at the beach) and enjoy some delicious food and drinks. To start off, I couldn't resist ordering the Hibiscus Margarita. It was the perfect combination of sour and sweet, truly refreshing and delightful. Definitely a must-try! For appetizers, we opted for the Barrio Nachos, which were pre-loaded with guacamole, crema, salsa, chihuahua, and black bean paste. These nachos were incredible and hands down my favorite part of the meal (aside from the margarita, of course). The flavors blended beautifully, making each bite a treat. We then sampled two types of tacos: Tacos de Pollo (adobo, romaine, jalapeno green goddess, queso fresco) and Tacos de Cauliflower ("chorizo" cauliflower, sweet chipotle, tofu, avocado). Both were delicious, but the Cauliflower Tacos stood out for me. They were packed with flavor and offered a unique twist that I absolutely loved. Our waiter was kind and attentive, more than happy to answer any questions we had. The service added to the overall pleasant experience. Barrio Costero is a fantastic spot for anyone looking to enjoy creative and flavorful dishes in Asbury Park!

Yelp
i had this spot book marked because of the sign outside and how it smelled too. glad i stumbled in here, because the food was outstanding, decor was tasteful, and the staff was cool. its expensive, elevated, fancy mexiucan food with a huge american influence. id say come here for a date or special occasion. friday evening around 6, we could only get a seat at the bar without reservations. my house margarita hit the spot, i had a fennel rim! this was interesting! i didnt love it, but didnt hate it. but i commend the bar for having unique options. my cousin and i split essentually 3 apps - the menu is small, but nothing too heavy in the entree department, and well it's not exactly taco bar pricing. but anyway, lets get to the good stuff.... BARRIO NACHOS -- 4 round nachos, loaded. nice to split, but the pig in me easily could have eaten this. i loved how the one or 2 bites u get, has each element of your traditional guac and nachos. TLAYUDA AMARILLO -- i am grateful enough to have been to mexico city 3 times and this (tlayuda) is my favorite street food there. i can see the influence it takes, but its not your traditional street food item. however, the flavor was so good. i love that its a vegetarian item too. i wish it had more cheese because that was my favorite part. DUCK -- my cousin really wanted this, and i sampled a bite. as this was maybe my 3rd time trying duck, i knew i was taking a gamble with this type of game. here the deal, it was good, but not for me. i feel this was the biggest serving we had all night. its very sharable. or could be just for 1 person. the outside of the duck was crispy and felt like a sweet bbq item, juicy but tender to bite. i appreciated the crispy bbq outside. however, i didnt enjoy the overall flavor or inside but this is because i dont like duck but wanted to be open minded.

Yelp
We came here on a rainy Friday night. Highly recommend a reservation if you're coming on a Friday or Saturday night as the restaurant was very busy. We ordered some margaritas and three dishes to share - their nachos, carne asada, and ceviche. As far as food goes, this was a great experience. Everything was fresh, exciting, and flavorful. The star of the show for me was the ceviche - a must order. Our server was friendly but new which resulted in some hiccups including a very long drink delay which caused us getting an extra drink that was added to our bill in error and us having to remind them about bringing out one of our dishes. The restaurant also recommends sharing their dishes but these would be normal size dishes anywhere else. Between our three plates, we finished most of the food and we normally have a good amount of leftovers when we go out. Although this was a good experience, I left leaving feeling that it could have been better based on their price point. Tighten the screws and this could be an excellent dining experience.

Yelp
This was my second visit, after a very nice first visit three weeks prior. However, it was like the tale of two restaurants. Our server was part of the problem. She had an attitude and didn't really care that it took 40 minutes for our cocktails to arrive, even after seeing another table get seated and receive cocktails before ours. Please don't lie and say that the bar is backed up only for us to see the table next to ours get their drinks in record time. Not sure if I plan to make a third visit, too many other places in Asbury to enjoy with far better service.

Nicole G.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing night at Barrio. We were referred to try this restaurant as Mexican cuisine lovers and we loved it! The service was great from the moment we stepped in. Our bar tender was great. Mike is a master tender and he whipped up some delightful mixes and shared his experience over the past 16yrs. The ambiance of the restaurant was AMAZING!! There was this lovely piece at the front desk made of origami reused menus, the seating area was separated with these really nice netted hanging separators and OH MY GOODNESS THE LADIES ROOM WAS JUST OUT OF THIS WORLD!! We even met the manager Rondell, Manager of Reyla's. Thank you also to Yelp for the discount after I checked in!! The most dope part was we ended the night with a walk through to the Mediterranean restaurant, Reylas and SpeakEasy Laylow which were below the restaurants!! Amazing!! Definitely stop by for a great experience, you will not be dissapointed!

Yelp
Always in search of a good deal, my husband found out that Barrio Costero has happy hour all night on Thursdays! The margs were good, and we leveled up by adding spicy salt! Unfortunately we didn't have the best dining experience mainly because our waitress wasn't super clear about the happy hour nacho portion (just an individual large chip/tostada loaded with topics); and she forgot to put in our taco order (after telling us our food was coming, she realized 20-30 min later that she hadn't actually put the taco order in with the kitchen). Once the tacos (chicken, pork, and fish of the day), they were flavorful but it was frustrating that we had to wait so long. 3.5 stars overall.

Rebekah M.

Yelp
I love the tacos here so much. It never misses and the mezcal options are nice too if your a fan. The staff is always kind and last time let m leave with a paper crane of my own. The vibe is great for a small group of friends who want an elevated taco in my opinion. The fish taco we had was too tier.

Massiel E.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised with this place. Food was delicious, Kiara was out server and she was lovely:-) Nachos were delicious, chicken tacos too. Skirt steak with rice and beans was also really good. I would come back here to eat.

Roxy S.

Yelp
My friend and I came without a reservation, and were seated outside very quickly. We started with the guacamole, it's pretty good but mostly just avocado, lime juice, and garlic salt is the flavor. There's no other veggies in it. I got the fish and he got the chicken tacos. They say the plates are made for sharing, but the portions are enough for one person and the menu isn't diverse enough to order many plates in my opinion. The food took forever to arrive, and neither of our meals were anything special. In my opinion, this is whitewashed mexican seafood.

Tracy M.

Yelp
the worst dining experience of all time! everything took far too long, too little food, small portions, one dish at a time, over priced, confusing. the salad consisted of an UNCUT lettuce head, on a side plate sprinkle with chili, an embarrassment for any self-respecting chef or manager. there was no shortage of staff so I don't know why the insistence that food can't be delivered more than one-at-a-time!!! we were thrown boxes for wrapping expensive leftovers. staff were not listening or engaged throughout, just sticking with the pretentious 'concept'. I left hungry and angry. Im a local who will never return. Advice: give it all a big skip!

Laura S.

Yelp
Inventive well presented and fun. They change the menu frequently so sometimes you may not like the new dishes and wish they'd kept the old one, but on the other hand, these changes mean that they are inventive and interesting.

Kimberly R.

Yelp
Barrio Costero provides an upscale Mexican food experience. The salmon ceviche is not traditional but it is definitely delicious! The drinks were yummy! I had a classic margarita and my husband had the mango. The service was top notch, they were very attentive and incredibly kind. The restaurant is beautiful inside. It's definitely upscale, you can definitely wear jeans but a button up or blouse is necessary. I cannot wait to go back this summer to enjoy their outdoor seating.

Gennadiy S.

Yelp
The entire experience was excellent! Food was delicious. staff was friendly and very attentive. Thank you Amanda and team for your service and memorable experience! Highly recommend.

K D.

Yelp
Hip ambience. Decent chicken tacos, sweet moulee and the star being arepa made from sunflower and an assortment of natural ingredients. Good times.

Roman B.

Yelp
The food is delicious, the service is friendly and excellent. The ambiance is very much New York style, making you feel like you're in SoHo. They have a great selection of drinks, including tequila. To my taste I would like to have drinks to be a bit stronger, I didn't taste much of the tequila in my few tequila drinks

Rebecca B.

Yelp
We had dinner here last weekend and it was to die for! Great cocktails, food & service. Lovely atmosphere even at the bar.

Kiu Y.

Yelp
Barrio has quickly become our favorite spot for Mexican cuisine, especially during Taco Tuesday Happy Hour. Their cocktails are fantastic, with the "Jalisco is Burning" being our top pick for its spicy and flavorful twist. The tacos never disappoint, always delivering consistent deliciousness. The bartenders are exceptional--friendly, skilled, and always adding to the welcoming vibe of the place.

Maura W.

Yelp
I love coming to Barrio any chance that I am in the Jersey Shore area The entire staff; Angelo, Krystal, Izzy, Chef, and everyone else are some of the nicest most hospitable people ever. They make the experience feel like you're at a dinner party with friends but with better food made by professionals The brunch is honestly not something to be missed. They have a new brunch menu on Saturday's and Sundays and when I say nothing is bad, I'm translating it to everything is delicious The French Toast was my favorite thing; absolutely out of those world. They also have thick cut bacon that is literally just a whole slab of tastiness. All of the brunch drinks are super yummy too. You can get a whole carafe of flavored mimosas like their hibiscus or mango! If you're in Asbury Park and looking for something with a chill vibe, great drinks and even better food, you have to check them out

Taryn S.

Yelp
This place is the best!! If you've never been you may feel a little shocked by the prices .. but seriously worth it every time. Food has always been delicious. They have 6 different salts for the margs. Good vibes. Great service. Can't recommend enough !!!

Yelp
After spending the day at the beach, my husband and myself wanted to try a new latin restaurant, as we usually frequent a nice Mexican place not too far from Barrio. But we wanted a change. Since Barrio received so many hi stars and reviews we decided to try it. Our HUGELY negative experience began before we were even seated. We walked inside and were barely greeted by a young man we assumed was the host. He asked if we had a reservation.....I replied no. ( I then looked around as it was 5:45pm on a Monday and the place was empty other than a few tables) He then says.....several time I might add "Technically......I am not supposed to seat anyone with out a reservation" I pointed out that the place was EMPTY. He simply repeated himself with the same line he previously stated. There was no apology, for instance a proper response would be 'Im so sorry, but we can't accommodate you at the moment, however, if you would like a table outside, I can put you there'. No he was rude and ignored my comment about being empty. Ultimately we accepted a table in the shade outside. I want to state that we own a Latin Restaurant in Bergen County NJ. That being said we are familiar with giving a positive customer experience. Ok next comment are regarding the service and food: We each ordered the Watermelon Margarita, ok not bad, nice presentation. At $14 each one we were not going for a 2nd since they lacked alchohol. I had a question on the menu (extremely limited and unusual menu) under the heading Las Otras. It was called Huarache. I asked the server for an explanation of the dish. He could not tell me and had to go ask the kitchen for a description. (shouldn't the server be familiar with the menu?) Upon returning from the kitchen he still had trouble describing the dish other than saying was was vegan. Ok....so not ordering that if I don't know what it is. We ordered the Guac and Chips, which was the only part of the meal we enjoyed. We ordered Chicken Tacos, Fish Tacos and Ceviche. Chicken Tacos: Actually were tasty even with the crazy amount of garnish consisting of pickled onion, fried onion and other garnished with drowned out the chicken. Fish Tacos: BUYER BEWARE! After 1 bite I couldn't stomach more. The smell of rancid fish and some pieces were even raw. ***At the end of the meal, the server didn't ask why we left 2+ tacos on the plate, he didn't even ask if we wanted it to go. (Of course we would not) Ceviche: OH MY GOD!!!! What a NASTY looking presentation and the taste was unpalatable. Slimy white and pink thinly sliced scallops covered with garnish. Please check photos below. Notice on an 8" plate, 75% of the plate is barren. I was so extremely disappointed with the entire experience from beginning to end. After being asked 3X by our server if we wanted anything else, and 3X being told no, he brings us a handheld unit and hands it to me saying "Here is your total" $111.47. ( I was like WHAT??) Then I asked where the detail of my check was. He said "Oh, let me go print it out". WTH? Don't you provide your customers with a detail so they know what they are paying for? Anyway, I couldn't pay and get out of there fast enough. Also on the bottom of the menu in small print, it says "You will notice a 3.5% service charge on your receipt. This is our way of showing some well-deserved love to ALL of our team members in the restaurant." I had also inquired from the server what this mean? Is it additional tip? I mean what the hell? He explained that servers in general get a low wage. So this was the managements way to use the collected Service fees to pay them a higher wage? OK correct me if I am wrong here, but don't they get tips like any other reputable restaurant? The hourly wage is the owners problem to compensate their servers, not the customer. In closing, this was by far the worst dining experience in years from the moment we walked in to the end paying the bill. NEVER AGAIN. And I warn all my friends and family to stay away. To the Customer Service review responder, please don't bother sending me the automated cold generic response asking for me to email you to resolve the issue. It can't be done unless an honest, serious look at your staff, food and management is done. You can't take offense to these comments, the purpose is to understand what your customers are feeling. With respect, a first time and lost customer

Kayla N.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in Asbury. Their margaritas are so so good. I'm particular about margs and I love theirs. The food is great too. The menu is on the smaller side so my friends and I have tried most apps and entrees. I can definitely say we loved them! Plus they do a few awesome happy hours. Highly recommend

Sofia S.

Yelp
As a frequent Asbury Park visitor, I was surprised I've never been to Barrio Costero. This place is wonderful! A few streets over from Cookman, the vibes are great and a little more relaxing. I came with a friend and we sat outside, our waitress was quick and really sweet. The food was AMAZING. They accidentally gave us the pork tacos (I have never had pork) and I tried them- UNBELIEVABLE! Everything was fresh and beautifully served. We came on a Tuesday and they had a deal for two tacos and a marg for 17 or so. If you've never been I definitely recommend.

Alexandra L.

Yelp
I went to Barrio on a Saturday night for dinner. The restaurant itself and the decor looks like an upscale chipotle if I'm being honest. The service was excellent- the waiter was very attentive. The tacos I had were beef with baby corn and they were good but not anything I'd ever order again. The food is over priced for what it is. All in all, I wouldn't be in any rush to come back to Barrio.

Christina R.

Yelp
It was cinco de mayo and I get it that they are busy but we sat at the bar and everything just felt forced and with attitude. Nachos were horrible and tasteless. Tacos were ok. Beautiful bar though!

Dhar K.

Yelp
The restaurant is clean with a nice inviting decor. The service. Excellent! It's the best part of this restaurant. The food comes out fast and they keep things moving. You're not going to be waiting for the staff too long to give them your order. Menu, limited but interesting choices. Basic but there's something for everyone. They pay good attention to food allergies and it's noted on each item. So now the cost. For me, it's always about the value. I can eat a great entree and a terrible entree for $150. If it's worth $150, happy to pay it. Terrible, I'd never come back, there are too many options out there. Food cost is one thing but quality and preparation is key. This place is so well below average that the 5 rating I'd give it otherwise is now a 3 star rating. That's kinda being generous. Even the drinks were Meh. Overall, Meh. Not worth the money or a visit. There are so many better places to spend your money in this neighborhood.

Veronica R.

Yelp
Holy cow this place is INCREDIBLE! Food run down: - Wings: Fantastic, really well cooked, little spicy little chocolatey. - Nachos: These are actually basically tostadas and they are VERY good. Like, I didn't know tostadas could be that good. - Fish tacos: These were good, but probably the least impressive dish we had. - Huarache: WOW. I had no idea a vegan dish could be this amazing. - Buñelo: Please get these. You will thank yourself later. It was extremely busy when we went so it's hard to know what a typical night is like. Even though he was slammed, our waiter Matt was an absolute delight. He was friendly, helpful, and calm under pressure.

Rich N.

Yelp
Barrio Costero is our favorite restaurant in Asbury Park! The mexican food is creative and very tasty! I highly recommend the nachos (order 4), tacos and margaritas. Staff is friendly and they make great recommendations. I wish we were going there tonight!

Kari-Ann C.

Yelp
Best dinner, drinks and dessert! The food was amazing. We were a party of four and ordered multiple dishes to try. Everything we had was delish! The tostadas, lamb, duck and ceviche were all on point and delicious. The dessert special with yuca and pistachio ice cream was spectacular. The Tequilla Cream was a great drink to top off dessert. The whole table got one and love it!

Linda K.

Yelp
Service: excellent! Food: Delicious! Drinks: unique! Ambiance: kind of industrial, but pleasant

James G.

Yelp
Drinks are tasty. Waitress was kind and attentive. Food was ok-at best. Charges for soda refills, hot sauce and a 3.5% "family" fee for... reasons? If you like to get nickle and dimed in a pretentiously "progressive" taco joint this is the spot for you,

Ed C.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant. From the service to the food and the cocktails. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful and attentive. I try to order something new when I visit because every item on the menu is abs delicious. One of the best places to go when you're in Asbury by far

Catt A.

Yelp
Yum! Ate here with my friend on a Thursday night- happy hour ! The margaritas are VERY fresh and not with a mix- you can taste the fresh lime juice, and the choice of salt makes them extra special. The food is not traditional, but it is delicious . We ate a nacho each, which is more like a tostada with toppings. We then split the salmon ceviche. Next, we got the fish tacos and the octopus. Both dishes were incredible. We tried some chips and guacamole as we finished our drinks (more carbs please!) and they happily gave us more chips when they ran out. Finally, we finished with buñuelos. We were both pleasantly surprised with the food, the staff, the atmosphere- everything. I highly recommend this restaurant for a delicious take on Mexican cuisine. Even the bathrooms were trendy !

Michael L.

Yelp
Been here three time in last 6 months and everything is ALWAYS OUTSTANDING !!! Waiter outstanding ! Food outstanding ! Drinks outstanding !

Ray M.

Yelp
Sister restaurant of Reyla in Asbury. The restaurant is very comfortable and has a very relaxing/happy vibe. The staff were very professional and kind. I've wanted to check this restaurant out for some time. Glad I did! They have a very nice selection of craft cocktails, wine, beer and also a very nice tequila selection. Impressive! Service was fantastic! Server, Matt, was kind, happy, confident and very efficient. He knew the menu very well. He did a great job of explaining certain dishes, especially the delicious Barbacoa special. Let's just say it was amazing! full of flavour, nice portion, and presented well I the plate. Comes with macaroni & cheese, babacoa style chicken, corn bread (Mexican style) and zucchini/squash (which I loved). Barrio, like Reyla, does it all well. I'm looking forward to coming back very soon to explore additional items on the menu, and enjoying the lovely dining experience.

Cordelia R.

Yelp
Wanted to make sure I properly shoutout Christina who helped me with my very strange query regarding what kind of soap they used in the bathroom - I loved it and needed to know where to find it! In case anyone else falls in love with the powdered soap in the bathroom it's Boraxo powdered hand soap Thanks again to Christina for going above and beyond to find out for me!

Kristi J.

Yelp
I have dined here three times. The first and second time the food was excellent. The third time, the food was off. The flavors were not quite right. The tacos were soggy. I don't know if it was an off night or the food is going downhill. Also, our entrees came out so far apart that my husband finished his meal before I even got mine. It makes it hard to share. Bottom line: I am not rushing back anytime soon, or ever.

P R.

Yelp
A new spin on Mexican food! It was surprisingly healthier and quite delicious Their cocktails & margaritas were fresh and delightful. We would love to return. It's quite a popular spot so be sure to make reservations!

Greek M.

Yelp
Maybe good for drinks? Not much of a dining experience- arrived at 6:35 and we were done with our meal at 7:08. Fish tacos were dry and certainly not worth $22.

John B.

Yelp
Made a quick stop here during the day while roaming around Asbury. It was during the beginning of the pandemic so I sat outside. Overall a pretty good spot to grab a quick bite. The tequila drinks are made very well here. I ordered a mezcal mule which was on point. There are more authentic places for Mexican food in the area but Barrio Costero is still a great option.

Hannah T.

Yelp
They always have the most fun and creative menu items that are absolutely delicious! This place keeps you coming back!

Rosemary V.

Yelp
The good: Each dish tastes good and it has its own modern twist. Their drinks are also yummy. Good service. Also the bathroom hand soap is pretty cool! The so-so: Even thought all dishes are meant to share, some of the portions are a bit small. I do wish they had a more extensive menu. The bad: None Final Verdict: Would definitely return.

Nik P.

Yelp
This place fell off. Pickled onions in chicken tacos is just disgusting. The taste after each bite makes me want to spit out my gums. The after taste from that moment alone makes me question my decision to come back here. I only give this place 3 stars because their nachos are still great but please don't ever change this item. The chicken tacos are atrocious now. Bring back the tinga version from last year! Do yourself a favor....

Tom M.

Yelp
Coming back to my Barrio review which highlighted a poor experience to say Barrio reached out and made everything right by me and have one me back. Thanks for listening and exceeding my expectations to all at Barrio Costero

Joe D.

Yelp
Great food with a unique menu. Drinks are excellent. Staff is well great. Restaurant is immaculate. Always on point.

Michelle G.

Yelp
Cute place! Came in for margaritas and appetizers on a slow Sunday afternoon and we were charged $2 for a few slices of lime? I've never heard of a place charging for this. I'm all for the service fee charge and supporting the restaurant industry but $2 for a "side of lime slices"? Odd.

Allison M.

Yelp
Great authentic tacos with incredible service. Asked our server to rush our meal so we could make a performance at Stone Pony... food was out in like 10 minutes. Will go back to taste the rest of the dishes just because they were so phenomenal in there! And yes because the tacos were delicious

Marc K.

Yelp
First time here. Had an rsvp for outside on Father's Day. We were seated promptly. Part of the table was in direct sun so we moved the table a little bit but the sun still got to us. No deal breaker. Wasn't too busy outside. Service was good. First notice was many empty tables still had not been cleared so it tended to look a bit trashy for an upscale establishment. Outside could be decorated a bit better to be honest. Little attempt at a decor or scene seems to have been made. Drinks were average at best. Tasty but no wow factor. Food "entrees" were tasty. Taquito appetizer was very disappointing. Guacamole portion is very small and no care was taken to presentation. Like someone splattered a Dollop on a plate, and it tasted rather plain and airy. Tacos were flavorful and different. Sauces were all good. Skirt steak was on the salty side. I honestly don't understand why the dishes come out in stages. Unless I guess they want to encourage sharing. Maybe Father's Day was not a good day to go.

Doralisa T.

Yelp
Fresh home made Delicious Everything! The Beef was my fav&Nachos Amazzzzin!Staff is Friendly Super accommodating .Cocktails were Great tooTotally Recommend

Colin S.

Yelp
The fish tacos were excellent. Everything else was unremarkable at best. It's like someone went to Cosme and tried to recreate without any heart or soul. The pricing here is cynical, $20 tacos and tortas with an interesting topping, but what's underneath (the most important part) is almost impossibly average. You can get better tasting Mexican food for 1/3 of the price, or go upscale and get something wildly more impressive for the same price.

Mel M.

Yelp
ASBURY PARK: our first time here, Barrio Costero is a super fresh Mexican restaurant with dog friendly outdoor tables. On a very hot day, we were nicely shaded by the surrounding buildings so it was very comfortable. The Chefs definitely know what they are doing - everything was delicious and unique. The guacamole: fresh and delicious! The veg tacos: fresh and delicious! The cocktails: fresh and delicious! It's hard to find places that wow us with this type of high quality and we cannot wait to visit again. If you go with a friend, have them watch the dog for a minute and go inside to see the stunning decor. We all know Asbury is awesome, but this place is like stepping into a classy NYC restaurant!
