Bonehead Burger Co. to Open Restaurants in Old Town and Imperial Beach | Eater San Diego

"Operating out of Barrio Logan’s Barrio Food Hub as a virtual restaurant, Bonehead has been using this ghost-kitchen to offer online ordering for pickup and delivery while it prepares to open brick-and-mortar storefronts." - Candice Woo

Google
I can not comment on the food. I went there looming for Indonesian food at 11am, they did not open till 4pm. Their google map information needs to be updated. However I was quite impressed with this location. Picture 6 shows the diffferent types of restaurants and meals available. You select then pay. Once your order is ready, check in (picture 7) and then pick up (picture 8).

Google
I would say this place is perfect for introverts where the ordering and picking up process there is no human interaction. But if you want to ask for more sauce or something like that, and you forgot to do so while ordering, well that’s tricky. I would also recommend this place for groups of people who cannot decide what they want to eat as there are different food options in this location. There’s an outdoor patio where you can hang out and eat.

Joseph-Martin S.

Google
What a scam! I ordered the chicken teriyaki on Uber Eats and not only is the portion size extremely small compared to the photo but it wasn't even teriyaki! It tasted like some sort of dry rub. To top it off this place doesn't seem to really exist. I ordered from "Bowl Haus" but then when I look up the address I get "Barrio Food Hub". Every single person involved in this place is accessory to a scam.

Google
This innovative approach consolidates diverse culinary options into a single, central location. Upon arrival, customers interact with a kiosk displaying a variety of restaurant choices, including Japanese, American, and Mexican cuisines, among others. After ordering, a text message is sent, providing a designated food storage locker number. Upon order completion, customers unlock their locker using their phone to retrieve their food. This system excels for mobile order pickup; however, it is less suitable for dine-in experiences with friends. While tables and a tic-tac-toe game are provided, additional amenities are lacking.

Google
I normally don’t leave reviews but I have time today. I ordered a friend chicken sandwich & fries from Bird-N-Bun, and the Birria taco combo with rice, beans and consomme. The sandwich was just ok, which at $20 with no drink is a huge disappointment. The birria tacos were decent, but the rice and beans were very bland, and the fountain drink was $5 for some reason. The worst part of this whole experience was the lack of quality service. If you want to have a virtually no contact restaurant, make sure everything the customer needs is in their order. How do you give a customer birria tacos with broth, rice and beans and no utensils or even napkins?? Should I scoop up the beans into my fingers and eat them that way? And then when I went back up to the counter to get napkins & utensils there are none to be found anywhere, so you have to wait for the person manning the front desk to come back. I waited for about ten minutes while multiple employees walked back and forth, looking straight at me and ignoring my voice as I tried to speak to them. Then, when the guy working the front came back ten minutes later, I asked him why everyone who worked there ignored me. He said they didn’t work for the food hub, they worked for one of the 25 kitchens. So, as a former foodservice worker having worked multiple positions in a restaurant, I would like to know if it’s just the workers there who don’t care to actually pay attention to what they’re doing, or is it the owner as well? Because the whole experience was disappointing and frustrating to say the least, for over priced food. I wouldn’t bother ruining my day again to come back here.

Google
Ordered on Uber eats. They had an offer for buy one get one free of 1 order of 2 tacos. Ordered 2 orders of 2 tacos, which would total to 4 tacos total. Only received 2. The receipt even says 2x2 tacos. Not happy

Tyecha B.

Google
Padre Burger ABSOLUTELY NO! Ordered chicken and waffles and they really sent me this. Like how? BURNT!

Google
we spent over $70 on two bowls from this place called hungry hibachi which is i guess barrio food hub which is what came up when i tried to leave a review. portions were ridiculously small and the food is very mediocre. i could seriously probably eat three of these things.i would not recommend this place. unbelievably overpriced. i only write reviews if i'm super happy or super unhappy i am super unhappy. avoid this place.

Yelp
I'd heard about this food hub and a group of us decided it was a good option for us due to the fact that everyone could order/pay individually and had quite a bit of variety. It's an interesting concept with a ghost kitchen and contactless ordering thru the kiosk or online. Actually a genius idea that keeps costs lower for the food vendors. I found the kiosk ordering to be convenient as well as the text when your order is ready and quick pickup from a locker. There is a nice seating area outside with picnic tables, umbrellas and games. There are also a lot of food delivery drivers that pick up orders and tend to double park in front. Parking itself appears to only be street parking. The big comment from our group is there should be a bathroom for patrons, we had to walk to McDonald's a block away. As for the actual food we ordered, I went with Big Daddy Hawaiian BBQ and was a little disappointed because it was on the pricier side and didn't quite taste like Hawaiian BBQ. The large mixed plate consisted of BBQ chicken, coconut shrimp, rice and mac salad. They were all pretty basic. For dessert, we got Sugar Bear Sweet Provisions cupcakes (s'mores & churro) and these were delicious! The rest of the group got a variety of other items including sushi, burgers and Indonesian food and their reviews were pretty positive. Overall, a good experience and would recommend for groups.

Yelp
A great place for a group hangout when no one can decide what they want to eat. Easy kiosk and online ordering that allows you to choose exactly what you want without needing to talk to anyone. Nice outdoor seating and grassy game area for hanging out with human friends or furry pals. The Food The smashville burger tasted like an average burger, priced at $10+. The tacos at Abuelita's was good, but it was also our first time having birria. We thought it was a bit high at $17+ for the plate. Parking All street parking only. The spots in front were three minutes only for pick up. Close by you can find some for 30 minutes or 2 hours if you're lucky.

Yelp
Padre Burgers: I made the mistake of ordering a couple of burgers from Padre Burgers on Uber Eats. What absolute trash. The patties were about 2 inches across, over-seasoned and overall disgusting. How does someone screw up something as simple as a cheeseburger? This garbage is going straight in to the trash where it belongs.

Yelp
This place sucks. Really Not A food court in the traditional sense. It a building with different food companies that you order online or at one if two kiosk in a tiny room. Once your food is ready for pickup up, you go to the metal lockers in the same room as the kiosk. Basically, no human interaction. You're hoping the food here will be awesome... But it's now... it crap. Not sure what this place is about, it surely not for people wanting a good meal. There's more I want to say... but this place is not worth my time...

Yelp
Fatty's teriyaki was disappointing. We ordered a small teriyaki chicken plate with broccoli and white rice, and it was a letdown. The broccoli was bland, dry, and soggy. The sauce on the chicken wasn't even close to teriyaki--it was watery and flavorless, more like a vinaigrette than anything else. Even soy sauce would've been a better choice. On top of that, it was overpriced, and they even charge you a quarter for a fork and napkin. We won't be

Yelp
This review is for SeoulCal Chicken. It is somewhat a conflicting review due to the fact that the chicken my party bought was potentially cooked in old oil and the staff seemed to not replace it over the weekend (see image). The other side dishes like the waffle fries and brussel sprouts were good, despite the chicken. The chicken of the chicken tenders and sandwiches were cooked, but the batter itself most likely was made in old oil, as previously stated. This is a major concern when frying in old oil as it can lead to carcinogens in burnt food. With this issue, employees should be properly trained to replace oil daily instead of being lazy. Lack of proper cooking skills can show greatly on the final product and shows a level of carelessness when it comes to customer satisfaction. I am hoping this place will improve over time, but until then, my review stands. Note that this is not the first time I have bought chicken from them and the chicken was burnt. For a place that specializes in chicken, they need to do better.

Yelp
This is a new Italian place at this food hub . It was very Authentic and delicious . You can tell the ingredients were real and fresh not from a can. They take pride in their food .

Jorge A.

Yelp
The food is super mid, its over priced for what it is. There is not multiple restaurants. Its all just one kitchen designed to pump food out for grub hub and uber eats. The tenders are burnt, the burger is hard, and the cans of sodas were 3 dollars a piece. Dog water. Would not go again.

Yelp
What a genius idea. Contactless food court with several restaurant options. I ordered a chicken biscuit sandwich from Bird n a Bun and a rice soup from The Great Greek mediterranean Grill. Both were delicious and flavorful. My only issue was the order indicated it would take 5 to 15 minutes and it took 30. I was in a hurry but since the wait times are indicated before you order I decided to try. They just need to work on the wait times. Otherwise ~ great concept and I'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Review for The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill. Your food sucks and overpriced. A friend brought me here to try the Greek food from the TGGMG. I love Greek food and I also just came back from Greece. I saw the price for the Lamb Souvlaki, 24.95 and told him I'll pick something else. He insisted. For 24.95, there was small amount of food. And besides the Greek side salad, there was nothing about their souvlaki that's Greek. Lamb was too tough, and not worth 24.95. You're better off at any TKS franchise, or save your 24.95 and fly to Greece, where a decent souvlaki for 19 euros can feed 4 people!

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about this one. Let's start with the positives. Cool concept of multiple restaurants in one convenient location. The chicken strips are huge, fully cooked, well seasoned and juicy. Which is hard to do, I have tried making large strips at home and fully cooking thick pieces of chicken while remaining juicy throughout is not easy. They have two kiosks for entering your order which is nice so the line keeps moving even if someone is slowly ordering on one of the kiosks. The seating area is large and appropriately spread out. They text you when your order is ready and you use your phone to unlock your food locker. This is actually great because once your food is ready you just grab it instead of waiting for a worker to help you. This place also appears to be basically a hub for food delivery apps since theres so many food places here. This was not a problem at all though, the delivery people have their own separate checkin. They also double park up and down the street which is convenient for them but it also leaves more parking for walkin customers. There is room for improvement on some things. The fries came out cold and hard, there was kind of a burnt taste to the outside of the chicken strips. The side of ranch is quite small for the amount of food so definitely spring for additional ranches. The tables were quite dirty. Like not just dirty from the last couple of customers spills but caked on dirt from being outside overnight. I would recommend they put a fresh thick coat of paint on the tables and once every couple hours give them a thorough wipe-down with a soaked washcloth. Or even just leave a bucket with sanitizer and a couple washclothes so customers can tend to this problem when the hub employees are swamped.

Yelp
I came to barrio food hub and found myself a gem Vienna Cafe & Bistro I got myself some Blueberry pancakes with a almond milk latte !! Delicious breakfast! Quick grab and go pick up !! Definitely recommend!! Vienna Cafe & Bistro

Ruby L.

Yelp
Pizza del Barrio I ordered "The Works" (con todo) but received a cold pepperoni pizza that seemed like it had just been sitting there before they boxed it up. When I called to let them know about the mistake, the person on the phone was very nonchalant and just said, "Oh yeah, let Uber Eats know." My mom and I were excited to try something new, but this was a disappointing experience.
google avatar

Vanessa G.

Yelp
Came here specifically for Bonehead burger and they did not disappoint. The burger was juicy, cheesy, and full of veggies to crunch. Onions, tomatoes, lettuce and crunchy pickles. Pure heaven !! Their sauce is different still trying to figure it out, but it taste like seasoning salt mixed with mayo and ketchup it was good. We also tried bird and bun let me warn you these spicy chicken tenders kicked my ass. I'm still sweating and my mouth still burns. The texture of the chicken is crispy crunchy good. I'll be back and try the regular tenders my stomach is still mad at me for all that spice. I see what they are doing with the Barrio Food Hub the concept is cool. It's a hidden modern touch for dinning out. No waitress no one to take your order. You do all the ordering yourself. I would come back I might just take it to go.

Matmarclenlon M.

Yelp
GoMama's great food and big portions. The brisket is tender and juicy! Palabok and sisig is good too!

Pam B.

Yelp
They delivered the wrong pizza The phone number listed is not in service Horrible Sam Diego address

Rizky H.

Yelp
Online ordering system is lacking. Estimated time for completion varies from 2min - 25 min. The estimated time presented in the confirmation page does not get updated. You'd have to check at the kiosk in-person to get live updates on your order. Mobile confirmation change also does not get updated if your order is delayed.

Alonso T.

Yelp
The food is excelente and hot i love the service My food is on time all the time I Will continue to order
google avatar

Yelp
El Peruano Grill is the bomb! We had the Lomo Saltado and Causa. Both well prepared and delicious! The alfajores and arroz con leche con mazamorra morada were excellent desserts!
google avatar

Yelp
Worst Ramen I've ever had in my entire life. I ponded off to a friend and they said the same thing. This was the blindest Ramen they've ever tasted in their life. It's a shame when you spend money and the food is crap.
google avatar

Shane K.

Yelp
Food wait time was 4-9 minutes. There was no update or anything we got our food an hour later, we had to call someone at the front and the status was not updating. Apparently they dropped the food off and no one updated. What a mess. Will never use again.
google avatar

Viri M.

Yelp
Service was horrible. Rude and would only provide us with one fork even though it was two people eating. You have to eat outside because that is the only eating area which is across from a huge recycling center. Will not come here again.
google avatar

Stewart W.

Yelp
The concept is cool and the online image looks great but when you get the food it doesn't live up to what the price is and service is rude.
google avatar

Dung N.

Yelp
I've visited the food hub many times now. Each time, the service has improved and hopefully you are able to visit each vendor soon. For now, you can order ahead of time, or just order from their kiosk and someone will bring out your order from that restaurant. As for seating, there were only two tables out front, but most people take their food elsewhere to eat. So far I tried, Mo' Betta Noodlery, Bird-N-Bun, and Gordy's BYO. There are about 30 vendors to choose from, so I'm sure you'll find something you'd like to try.
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
This is pretty cool concept. A building hosting multiple eateries for take and delivery only. Although, there are a few shaded tables out in front that I took advantage of when I visited and will do again. There's a melee of eateries offering their good eats from this food hub, but they need to work on their website to list all the vendors, with links etc to menus, hours, delivery services etc.. They do offer scannable menus. For now, you best bet is to check out their https://www.instagram.com/barriofoodhub/ for a list of food vendors..
google avatar

Marnel H.

Yelp
What a nice concept. You order at a kiosk which has a list of restaurants/vendors. You can get text updates on your order. I kind of wish I could peruse through but there is a counter at the main entrance which is where you pick up your food. I do like that you can check on your order status in a separate kiosk. I ordered cupcakes from Sugar Bears Sweet Provisions. Wanted to check out this place after one of our pharmacy reps brought our clinic. Looking forward to coming back and trying the rest of the food. Overall it was easy to order and quick response.
google avatar

Mayra C.

Yelp
I was so confused but then Realized that you have to order and then figure out where to eat. I'm not from The SD area. No Biggy because there were benches outside .
google avatar

Gina V.

Yelp
Super disappointed my cousin & I never been so we didn't know what to expect! Walked in no one is there to assist! & when the worker showed up behind the counter he was on his phone. We ordered the same thing just one without onions the order took long & when we started eating, my cousin order had onions! A lot lol she opened it up & just ate the chicken (which the chicken was very tasty)
google avatar

Sony M.

Yelp
Barrio Food Hub is a unique addition to San Diego's food scene. It's a one-stop hub for some of the best restaurants for take-out and delivery. The only thing here is that finding parking is a tricky. They have a 3 minute "pick-up" zone in the front which gets quickly taken especially during lunch hour.
google avatar

Great M.

Yelp
Exciting concept, not very well executed. Lots of food choices but even longer wait times. Small enclosed ordering space. Even less parking. Sure maybe things would smoother if we ordered ahead. But all in all prices are not worth the trouble and tastes for what we had was far less than expected. You're better off going else where.

Catherine W.

Yelp
This was my third time ordering from Little Chef Chinese at the Barrio Food Hub. Just moved to SD,CA from a small town and never used this kind of ordering kiosk. Little Chef arrived first two times by Door Dash. I had searched for Moo Goo Gai Pan and Little Chef not only cooked it but to my specifications entirely! The taste was exactly what I remember and like!! The amount of food was extraordinary and the quality of the ingredients was perfect! I love their menu items and plan to make them my permanent choice for Cantonese/Chinese cooking! Oh, and pricing is reasonable and affordable! Don't change a thing!! Catherine's last order was on May 12, 2024 at 3:01
google avatar

Jay L.

Yelp
First and last time getting food here. Placed an order and when I got there it says my food is delayed. So I waited and checked few more times and still the same. 1 hr since I placed my order and I go in to speak with someone just for them to tell me the shop I ordered from was not open. In order to get a refund I would have to go online to submit a request and a day has passed and I have yet to get a response. Wasted my time and money. The sad part was I was not the only one who had the same issue and with another a different shop. They provided no apologies and no real solution.
google avatar

Yelp
A delicious variety of stop-'n'-go food can be found at Barrio Food Hub! Fast dining concept, with a twist on the food halls that have a storefront per vendor. Instead, here you browse the menus of a range of vendors, all from touchscreen kiosks in a small but cozy lobby. Decor is simple, trendy and photogenic. The emphasis is on pickup/takeout, but there's some outdoor seating in the front lot to dine-in. Lots of signage for their pickup/app ordering -- but it was never confusing to place my walk-up order and get to eatin'! Plentiful residential street parking, with spots for call-ahead pickup directly in front of the venue. I was in for breakfast and ordered from Bodega Brothers. Speaking specifically to the service, with two parties ahead of me, my entire visit was an easy 15min from start-to-finish. Staff was so polite and helpful during my order! I enjoyed my simple meal at Barrio Food Hub! Visit if you're interested in a fun dressed-up concept for a quick meal or snack. I look forward to my next visit -- lots of lunch options on the menu to explore.

Yelp
This was awesome ... scary thing is ... this is the new world , robots are starting up and jetsons are goin to be the norm ... most of the people don't wanna work anymore and they won't have to put up with Karen's .. so we getting what we asked for

Ramon B.

Yelp
It was really an experience! I've never been to a spot that has so many different food choices, when you walk in you order on the screen or on your phone then you get a good list full of different restaurants and foods all in one place! There is only outdoor seating which is nice and the food was gas. Very recommended!

Yelp
We originally came for Cali Bbq. When we came we didn't know it was multiple restaurants inside and your order off a kiosk. Cali bbq was closed so we decided to grab something sweet. I was thinking the cookies were going to be freshly baked. They were frozen and super hard. Definitely over priced and not worth it.

Elbert A.

Yelp
Stopped by today and got a 1/2 lb. smashburger, and an order of sidewinder fries. The burger had decent flavor and seemed fresh. The pickle on the burger was a bit overpowering but still a good burger. The sidewinder fries are very similar to potatoes wedges in my opinion, they also gave a good amount for the serving. Ordering is through a kiosk and picked up through a locker which is convenient in my opinion. The food took about 10 minutes to receive, so the service was cool (I didn't have to interact with any employees). The seating area was a bit dirty for my liking, but wasn't the worst. The food was good, but expensive.

Yelp
Seeing this facility pop up in my neighborhood made me hopeful that we were finally getting something similar to the Packing District in Anaheim and better than the Little Italy Food Hall or Liberty Public Market in Point Loma. When thinking of a Food Hub and seeing the size of the facility you imagine a space where (minus COVID) patrons could enjoy a variety of offerings in an ambient, attractive setting which benefits from the momentum of Logan Ave, a bustling street with diverse businesses that attracts locals and transients alike. However, what Barrio Food Hub appears to be (and hopefully just for the moment) is a facility for aspiring and driven culinary professionals to bring their ideas to life, *solely* for the mobile app ordering patron's consumption. While ordering in person is a possibility, the in person ordering experience feels completely disorganized, what is offered upon walking into the facility are stapled pieces of paper on an island with QR codes of each of the businesses menus as they are offered on delivery app services such as Postmates or Uber Eats. Perhaps if each of the menus were presented on the walls on monitors (?) the presentation of what is being offered may feel more organized and professional. As a result, the walk in patron is left with the impression that they should've saved themselves the trip and instead ordered from home as they would have been doing so from the delivery apps anyway. Even more so, considering the fact that at the time of my visit there were 3 employees behind a window who were what I presume to be runners, due to their not being able to actually take an order down for you but instead provide your order for you once you have recieved a notication indicating your order was ready. I'm not sure of the layout of the facility nor if it'd even be possible to renovate the facility to be more walk in friendly and appealing to the dine in guest (once COVID passes), but I give a 3 star rating to the prospect of this and the potential of a true food hub providing the opportunity for the aspiring business owners to have more facetime with patrons than simply dropping off their food orders to their cars. I'm a fan of Arabachi and would like to try Willie Wingz, however due to the business model it appears it'd make more sense to order from home on a delivery app. If unfamiliar with the Anaheim packing district, attached is a photo of what it looks like from the inside (preCOVID) , where patrons could enjoy from the many different eateries inside and simply have a great time. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Yelp
The ambiance is cold and alienated. You must order through kiosk. Perfect if no one can agree on what to eat in your party. It's take out only even though outdoor seating is available. There are no restrooms to wash hands. Even if food is phenomenal, I'd recommend going somewhere else for the whole eating experience.
google avatar

Emy V.

Yelp
I tried the double cheeseburger from Swagyu Burger. It was good and the onion rings were also very tasty.
google avatar

Jordan W.

Yelp
There is something for everyone at Barrio Food Hub! There were 10+ different restaurants to choose from with food ranging from burgers to Korean bbq bowls. All orders are placed at a kiosk inside. There are a few picnic tables and yard games outside (no indoor seating). Service was pretty quick, about 10-15 minutes around 6pm on a Sunday. There weren't any water cups available, so plan to pay for a drink or bring your own water bottle.

Yelp
7.5/10. This place has many options and tastes pretty good as well. Solid spit here for food

Yelp
After moving to San Diego last year, I just recently found this jewel of food utopia. I have made it my life mission to try every restaurant in the food hub as well as try everything on the menu. So far I have tried: Seoulcal chicken, moonbowls, ginger bowls, the last typewriter, lulubowls, and eggar Allen Poe. All these spots are amazing and I still have more to try. If you are looking/searching for a great place for food I highly recommend Barrio Logan Food Hub, as a one stop shop. No matter what your in the mood for your desires will be met.

Nathalie L.

Yelp
First time here and got a Tomato pasta from Armani Pizzeria , it was pretty bland and lacked flavor in the sauce, maybe I just picked the wrong thing but it tasted like school lunch food. My boyfriend got a burger from Bonehead that was pretty good . Plenty of tables to sit and eat.
google avatar

Ruth M.

Yelp
Had a craving for something sweet, came across Barrio Food Hub. Decided on getting something from Chelitas. The rice pudding had excellent vanilla & cinnamon flavor!!! The rice could have been cooked a little longer and maybe a bit creamier. The bread budding was good too. I will be back!!
google avatar

Justin D.

Yelp
Food was good. But overpriced. No bathrooms and ordering was meh, especially if there are several people there.

Burger G.

Yelp
This place was garbage! Saw food bloggers post this and it was NOT worth the hype. It's mostly pick up but you can order and eat there. They have about 15 restaurants to select from but the food sucked! My burger tasted worse than a cafeteria food. And frost sucked too.

Robert V.

Yelp
Took over 30 minutes to get wrap from Charred Kabobz. It was just ok. Had an odd Smokey flavor. My wife said it was the Italian parsley. It overpowered the wrap and the very delicious chicken in the wrap. Oh, and no napkins for a very juicy wrap.
google avatar

Joy P.

Yelp
Not a fan of the ordering system and ghost-kitchen setup but it's not a deal breaker... The guy manning the counter was nice and helpful though! Unfortunately I was served raw chicken from Bangkok Bowls. I showed the cook and he said it was fine. What! I could not get a refund directly. I sent email via web site. I was given new bowl, which was cooked. But I was not into it after having been served raw poultry. I am still worried about getting sick and will not be eating chicken again for a while. :/
