"The Scantron ordering slips at Barrio might take you back to the standardized testing days, but you’ll be navigating endless taco options instead of trying to figure out some arbitrary math puzzle. Get at least one taco with a green goddess tortilla, which you might think involves salad dressing, but is actually just a combination of a hard and soft shells with queso and guac sandwiched in between. There are also a dozen different margaritas with flavors like strawberry-pear, lychee, and mango-thyme, and you can get a flight to mix and match your favorite flavors, salt, and sugar rims. " - anne cruz

I’d give Barrio a 3.5. Positives: I love that they’re open late, hard to find in NH. They have so many options, especially for the build your own tacos which makes for a unique experience and the biggest reason why I give this place stars—I liked being able to build three totally unique tacos just how I wanted. The bacon jam guacamole was very good and a large portion, and came with free salsa which was also very tasty. They also have a very large drink selection and their cocktails looked good. Negatives: PRICE. This place is very expensive for what it is. My partner and I each got dinner, shared the guac, and ordered 3 drinks total and our total was $100. The tacos were good but kind of skimpy on filling. We got a side of black beans for $1.50 and the size was laughable, picture a little cup you use for ketchup!!!!! One of our tacos was forgotten and then took a while to finally get it. This certainly is not a Mexican restaurant, if that’s what you’re looking for go elsewhere (at least your meal will come with a side of rice and beans there). But if you’re looking for a unique experience and like to handpick your ingredients then I suggest trying it but keeping in mind how much you’ll spend.

The food and the drinks were good. The staff was very good and professional. Loved the concept of being able to select the filling in your taco by checking some boxes.

I've had dinner here a few times, but BRUNCH was a whole new wonderful experience! There's so many things I love about the food here, but the queso is unmatched.

This place is awesome. The atmosphere is super cool. Service is top notch; servers were wonderful, and everything came out super quick. The food and drinks were incredible - delicious and fairly priced (cheaper than a lot of downtown Portsmouth). Got a La Tierra and El Jefe Loco taco and they were ridiculously good. Highly recommend!

Good place for some drinks and beer with tacos. My favorite was the La Tierra (cola marinaded steak), the best one out of the 4 tacos we got. We also order the Cameron agrietado (jalapeno lime shrimp), Smashburger taco and build a taco with braised short ribs.

Great place to spend Cinco de Mayo! There is outdoor seating that is uncovered and they were not serving the patio today. We started with chips and salsa roja. The chips are on the salty side but I love salt. The salsa is fantastic. Slight smokiness and mild spice so it should work well for everyone. We also got the guacamole and queso. The serving size of the guac is very reasonable for the price but the queso is a huge serving! With just 2 of us at the table we had a meal just between salsa, guac, and queso. We also got a margarita pitcher to share. The casa margaritas are delicious and we'll come back again just because of those. The design your own taco format is a little overwhelming since there are so many options. I wouldn't get anything with chicken again but the pulled pork was delicious and the serving amount was fair. I tried the bombshell and green goddess shells and for the upcharge I wasn't impressed with either. Although I do like the structural integrity of soft shell wrapped crunchy shells so I would do the green goddess for future visits. We really enjoyed our meal and look forward to returning!

Gross! A shrimp tail in the final bite of my taco. The cabbage slaw tasted expired and probably should’ve been tossed out a day or two ago. Chips were burnt and after one bite, both Barrio boxes were in the trash. We have ordered from Barrio quite a few times before. It has always been hit or miss. Sometimes they load up the tacos and other times they skimp. Sometimes the quality is good and other times it’s mediocre. But this time was nasty and is the last time we’ll be ordering there.

First time customer extremely disappointed. Definitely did not live up to the hype. Much rather just gone to Loco Cocos in Kittery for some authentic tacos. It's much better and I've been going there for 20 years! Drove 45 minutes to get take out because I have a young son. Ordered 12:09 for 12:55 pickup time right when i arrived. I uploaded images proving my arrival time too. Food was COLD not just luke warm COLD it was clearly made 20 minutes before my pickup time. I attempted to eat it cold but It was a terrible experience, for the whole family and I'm definitely not going back. They may make good food sitting down to eat, but definitely don't get take out. Least the chips were ok.... Edit: Gf got sick from the guacamole and the few bites she had Edit 2: They replied to my review saying try it again!? They never replied to me and never reached out after I messaged them on social media. Went to Locos Cocos fathers day and had a proper Mexican made by Guatemalan's.
