"For an evening of arepas and a reasonable amount of turning up, stop by Barroco. Anyone who walks in after 5pm on a Friday or Saturday is greeted with a free tequila shot served in half a lime. There’s a lot to take in after the boozy welcome: multicolor Christmas lights, fake flower bushes, and Sharpie doodles all over the walls. Grab a table and chill on the covered patio, where you can down caipirinhas and snack on sweet plantains with queso. All the meat fillings are tasty, but any menu items stuffed with chorizo are top-tier. They close at 10pm, so keep the party going at club “Eating Takeout Flan In Bed.” " - kate bigam kaput

Always love finding these hidden gems around Cleveland! Barroco is pure Latino food from many different backgrounds with heavy authentic dishes prepared with quality ingredients in a truly unique environment. A great place to go for a lively experience with friends, family, or a chill meal with a significant other. Prices are not too bad. Service is excellent. Parking can be a bit tough off the street if you go during busy hours. But the food is by far 100% worth it! Details: The food is by far the star of this restaurant! The super flavorful dishes are kept fresh and updated with new menu options every few months, and will take you on a delicious journey across many Hispanic countries with authentic preparation and ingredients. The result will surely blow you away with amazing flavors and variety that will leave you full but still craving more. Their drinks are also pretty unique. Overall their prices are not bad considering the value you get to experience. In terms of service, it was wonderful to have friendly waiters that help you navigate the extensive menu and ingredients, and we even got complimentary lime shots on our way out! No wonder they won so many awards over the years. Vegan and vegetarian options are available and many dishes can be modified as needed, just ask. The atmosphere is truly unique. From the lively Hispanic music, one-of-a-kind walls where you can leave other guests (or your future self) a message, to the overall vibe, Barroco really does it well enough to stand out. Mostly indoor seating with decor as vibrant as their dishes. Restrooms were well maintained. Parking can be a challenge if you go during peak hours as it is free off the street. You may need to walk a little to get there however it'll be more than worth it for the flavors. Overall this is one place I will be keeping track of to experience their constantly updating menu of exceptional flavors. 100% recommend!

Guacamole with chips and plantain chips. Queso with plantains and crumbled feta. The pernil arepas was very good. It was a little salty but I like it that way. Skip the yuca fries as a side unless you absolutely love that thing. The best part is the 5 sauces they make in-house.

This was my first visit here and it did not disappoint. Our server was so sweet, kind, and attentive. We loved the drinks and the food, and the sauces were great. I'm putting this spot in our regular rotation.

It was my first time being there. Firstly, we were confused when the staff offered us the tequila shot in the lime cup. We were not sure because we never had been in any place offered us the tequila shot as a complimentary drink. 😆 I just wanted to say that it was super awesome. The food was delicious as in Latin American style. I couldn’t be more happy with their cocktails. 🍸

Had a great experience at Barroco. The food was amazing; had the Sancocho de Doña Liliana soup to start off, which was really good. Then, I tried the Birria Torta which was absolutely amazing. The bread was so well done, the sauces other than the added extras were amazing, and the meat was delicious. The added sauces were then also a great addition, specifically the chimichurri and pineapple sauces stood out. The Yuca fries are a great combo with any of those added sauces. The service was also great, Cristina was our server and she was really nice and attentive. The food came out pretty fast which was a plus. Highly recommended try overall!

Barroco Arepa Bar Nestled in Cleveland, Ohio, Barroco Arepa Bar was established by Juan Vergara and his family in 2011. What began as a modest spot in Lakewood's Birdtown neighborhood with limited seating and takeout options has grown into a culinary favorite. The expansion to new locations speaks volumes about the increasing demand for Barroco’s authentic Colombian cuisine and lively dining atmosphere. Barroco's menu showcases a variety of traditional Latin American dishes, from empanadas and plantains to its standout arepas—grilled corn pockets brimming with an array of fillings. The restaurant is celebrated for its vibrant ambiance, often featuring live music and a popular weekend brunch. By 2017, Barroco had opened a new spot on Larchmere Boulevard, and by 2018, it had launched a third location in Crocker Park’s West Park, extending its unique dining experience to even more of Cleveland. Starting off with the empanada appetizers is a must. These Latin turnovers boast a crispy corn crust and are packed with savory braised beef and potato, served alongside freshly made sofrito. For the main course, I chose to tweak their Ropa Vieja dish. Traditionally slow-roasted braised beef in a fragrant stew, accompanied by maduros, Cuban black beans, and rice, I opted for pernil instead of beef—pork was calling my name today. Dessert featured the caramel flan, a beautifully crafted Spanish caramel custard made in-house. The restaurant's decor is strikingly beautiful, exuding a hip and lively vibe, complemented by an incredibly friendly staff. Chatting with a departing patron, she raved about the food, underscoring the widespread acclaim. The verdict? Absolutely phenomenal! Definitely worth the visit! And be sure to ask for Jackie, she was my server and I highly recommend her!

The food here is amazing. We had the Cheesy Corn appetizer, empanadas, and Hawaiian arepas. Everything was very good and gluten free. The interior has an awesome atmosphere, lots of interesting things on the walls and lights strung on the ceiling. There is also an outdoor seating area. Happy hour cocktail specials.
