Google
Barton Creek Square opened over 40 years ago and was the largest and nicest mall in the Austin area for quite a while. Well, it doesn’t have the same cachet as it once did, it is still a nice place to go shopping. There is an Apple store, the main reason I go here, And it’s anchored by Nordstrom, Macy’s, and Dillards, there’s a bunch of kiosks in the open spaces, and a small handful of restaurants although there’s not a proper food court. It does have the AMC theater, which is a nice one. And right now it looks like there’s some gigantic circus tent in the parking lot. I have no idea what that is. From the north east corner of the parking lot, the closest side to downtown Austin, there’s a nice overlook of the city. It is a very different skyline now that it was 40 years ago.

Google
The mall is somewhat updated. But it really needs more things to do. The restrooms are only at the center of the mall and you have to walk forever to get to them. The food court is sad.

Google
Great place for a traveling carnival or cirque! Just went to see the paranormal cirque on Sunday night and we had a blast. Need more events like this in the area!

Robin Engel

Google
Attended a movie at AMC theaters with my daughter. I found ticket purchasing online to be less than desirable which hasn’t been the case in previous experience. The theater, however, was clean, gently staffed and had comfortable accommodations. We elected to dine at an outside restaurant prior to the show so have no takeaways on the dining options. Temperature was a bit chilly so bring a covering! I have no complaints from my experience and trust you won’t either.

Google
Barton Creek Square is a fantastic escape from the Austin heat. The mall offers a diverse range of stores, from tech products to trendy fashion and delicious dining options. There’s even a free Disney Junior play area for kids, making it a family-friendly destination. With its comfortable indoor environment and variety of amenities, Barton Creek Square is a great spot for people of all ages.

Google
Barton Creek Square Mall is one of the better shopping destinations in Austin. It has a good variety of stores—from well-known national brands like Apple, Nordstrom, and Sephora, to smaller specialty shops. The layout is fairly easy to navigate, and it's clean and well-maintained overall. The food court has a decent selection, though nothing particularly unique or standout. I do appreciate the AMC movie theater upstairs—it’s convenient and makes the mall a nice spot for a full day out. Parking is usually manageable, but on weekends it can get pretty crowded. My only complaint is that some parts of the mall feel a little dated, and a few stores seem to rotate in and out frequently. Still, it's a solid place for shopping, catching a movie, or just escaping the Texas heat for a few hours. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area!

Google
Mall vibes - malls are still dying, but this one's making some creative choices to stay alive. Great place to meet friends, walk with a stroller, grab a snack and get some shopping done. Bummed that the elevator has been out for my last several visits though. Sure makes it tough for strollers and wheelchairs to access both floors. Maybe get on that, Barton Creek Square?

Google
I love this! It has everything for me and my fiance and her two little boys and we have a baby on the way that we buy a lot of stuff for her. a while back I was doing a lot of music advertising for my music and editing skills and I took a picture in the parking lot. Enjoy! Love this mall!

Yelp
Great choice when in the Austin area, from speciality stores like VS, Pink and Bath & Body works to Gap, Altered State to Anthropologie, there will be something for every shoppers budget!
google avatar

Amanda N.

Yelp
I love the mall but becoming a mom and having to feed my baby is a nightmare here. There is only one place to privately feed/pump. The room/bathroom smells and not clean. There are a lot of moms who have to do this and there is always a long wait to get in. On top of that there are people using it for not the intended purpose which makes the wait time longer.

Yelp
Clean the carpets in the kids area. This is not very sanitary and clean for kids to be crawling and rolling on the floor with. I didn't even want to let my daughter down to crawl because the floor was so dirty.

Yelp
Took a walk through this mall and grabbed a small smoothie from Pinkberry, got to check out all of the the candy at Snack, walked through Macy's, Lucky Brand too. Ended up buying a nice grey cashmere wrap from J Crew. It's not a big mall, but it has the basics to meet most folk's needs.

Yelp
Clean mall and nice location. There was nothing interesting at all to see here. I was disappointed with the experience after leaving downtown ATX for a little shopping. I would not recommend it.

K S.

Yelp
I love this mall and am so glad I have a good mall close to me. It's extremely neat & tidy at all times. It's nicely lit, they have really good stores like Anthropologie, J. Crew, Coach, Nordstrom, Lululemon, Macys, Dillards and Dillards Mens, which is great, Sephora, Lego, and the list goes on. It's really a great selection for all price points, but all good quality. They also have a Chic Fil A, a Sbarro, Cold Stone Creamery & Cheesecake Factory. I swear when I go here on weekday evenings (when it's a bit quieter) it feels meditative. Parking is easy and plentiful. I don't worry about crime like you have to at some other malls. I just am so grateful to have such a well kept & well stocked mall so close.

Yelp
Used to go here a lot when I lived in Austin. Not much has changed here except for some of the smaller stores. They have an entire wing of just toy stores which seemed odd, but it is right next to the affluent Westlake city with lots of families and kids. They upgraded the theater to one with the huge lounge seats which you can reserve when getting your ticket. That was an awesome relaxing experience when watching "Oppenheimer". Food court had some upgrades including a Chick Filet and Venezuelan type food spot.

Kevin M P.

Yelp
I spend a decent chunk of time here. It's a pretty decent mall and definitely the best one in the Austin area. The only marks against it really are that there aren't many restaurants and the food court is small. It was renovated around 2019, however, I think a lot of modern mall renovations are misguided - they pretty much all have the same generic, colorless, overly corporate look which I think is a huge factor in the decline of malls. Simon really needs to overhaul their design paradigms and make malls visually interesting again.

Yelp
This mall is a great way to escape the Texas heat in the summer. A lot of shops to choose from and somewhere always has a sale going on. The Box Lunch here had this giant Pikachu statue that was so cute! Also, the ice cream place on the second floor has the best ice cream milkshakes!

Yelp
3.5 We decided to head out this way to find another local mall. There are several large anchor stores at this location which is a good sign for a thriving mall. This place was hopping. There were almost as many people here as a small comic convention. This was a good sign that most stores were filled and a bit frustrating trying to move around. I recommend going earlier if you just want to window shop. That said, the food court is fully stocked with restaurants and there are several mainstream stores here as well. This mall is a two story mall and not all the escalators work all the time which seems to be common out here. Be aware. There is also an elevator in the middle of the mall. The parking lot was pretty large and there are some nice shade trees if you can get a spot under them it's well worth it. I think I'd go back again.

Gina V.

Yelp
Mall has air conditioning issues. Mostly top floor. About every store is hot. I start sweaty as I start to walk passed food court area people smell like sweat.

Shirley B.

Yelp
It says online that the mall provides wheelchairs. We looked at both ends of the mall and never could find one.

Yelp
Great selection with over 100 stores and a Giant Food Court. Tons of little candy stores, jewelry stores, wireless stores, shoe stores.... And everything your teenager will desire. The AMC theater is also great ....so in general this is a great mall experience and a great place to drop off the kids for a nice Saturday. It's in the safest part of town so I have always felt very comfortable here and even allowing the kids to browse a little bit on their own.

Yelp
New store called "Crystals & More" will use your information to try to scam you. Got a call from a 877 number with caller ID as Goldman Sachs and half way through the call I was talking to a different person with better English speaking skills. This happen almost immediately after I used my card and gave my phone number for a text receipt. The POS terminal they use is Clover. The store was a pop up store and had some pieces but nothing seriously eye catching. If you do have business here, please pay cash. The call was super sketchy, claiming that they had stopped a $1200 purchase and would like to return the funds back to my card. They asked to confirm my expiration date and my card number but when I told them I do not see the attempted transaction on my Apple Card, they claim "it's not showing cause it's coming from Russia but we stopped it and would like to give your money back" .

Yelp
I used to go to this mall growing up and I absolutely LOVED it here... The last few times I've come here lately though it has gone down hill pretty fast. It just seems dirtier than before and much less inviting. I'll still go to this mall when I need a mall to go to but I just wish they would make it like it was when I was growing up...

Yelp
A place to hang out go shopping watch movies.are to exercise and to have lunch. The Apple Store is popular. Chill out at the mall.

Yelp
Beautiful mall. Tons of shops. You can tell that this mall is doing well as there are very few if any stores that aren't open. They have the typical Bath and Body works, Victoria Secret type stores, but they also have shops you that are not located in every mall around the states like The Body Shop, Morphe and others. The mall is very clean too which is a big plus. Everyone who works either for Simon mall or in the stores seem very happy too. I noticed there is a store for everyone in this mall. No matter your age group or your interests.

Yelp
Plenty of parking and great stores to visit and buy from A big food court and a nice movie theater

Yelp
While technology can be a wonderful it is also has casualties which is a shame for the current and future children. I mean does any over 40 remember growing up to one of the best experiences of their childhood called a MALL? I do and sadly those days are slowly yielding way to Ecommerce, outdoor shopping centers designed for ease of access and speed, and new societal norms. My children came to visit from out of state and wanted to hit a mall and I jumped at the chance. I love to watch people, window shop and of course the food court along with pretzel bites is always a big hit with us. Since I'm relatively new to Austin I googed Mall and Barton Creek showed up. We made our way out to the mall which didn't have that many people in it, ala the good ole days, but I digress. Barton Creek Square is in a safe part of town and the people inside seem low key and harmless. We got there a little before 11am on a Sunday, which meant all the massage chairs were taken and the food court still was opening up. My kids and I wanted to eat at Sarku (you know the place with teriyaki chicken and fried rice) which only had one person in line but wasn't open yet. In the meantime, we thought we'd buy some bathing suits then come back for lunch. More on that mistake later. We wondered around and there were a few stores not opened and I'm not sure when they would. All of the lights were off with no one in there but it was fully stocked. Perhaps they open at different times and/or days. The journey continued as I allowed myself to drift to the past. Where did the Aladdin's Castle, KB Toys, Merry-Go-Round, Radio Shacks go I wondered? Time changes all things I suppose. To my surprise JC Penny was open as I thought they had all gone, left in the history books as a most of their patrons are now collecting SS checks. I would like to add the mall was very clean. Wondering around, we stopped at Auntie Anne's to get some pretzel bites and yup, they're still a great snack! If you haven't tried them, they're salty, buttery, nugget sized and addicting! We got our bathing suits at a place that will remain nameless one for $80 the other $60, but alas the discount brought both to $50 total. I'm ignorant of pricing at retail stores and how it works during the season but that was just weird to me. Anyways, back to the food court. We saw a huge line and while I hoped it was for multiple restaurants, nope I knew what it was for. Sarku had over 30 people in line while all the other stalls had one or two customers. All in all it took us roughly 30 mins to get our food. I'm curious what would happen if I dropped another Sarku in the food court? Anyways, they were SLOW but as always really good. So when you're there I highly suggest Double Chicken Teriyaki w/ fried rice along with an extra scoop of sauce on the top. The chicken is nice and caramelized with a nice soy kick and fried rice, need I say more? All in all, the mall was nice, the people friendly, most of the stores were open and the AC works! For me and my girls it was a relatively cheap way to spend a Sunday and hang out together. In this day and age we don't know how much longer places like the mall have so perhaps you should give it a try before the only place you can see it is in Stranger Things Season 3 or at a library on the microfiche. Wait, libraries and microfiche aren't around anymore either? We'll run to the mall before it's gone!

Yelp
Went here to catch a movie and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and professional! I definitely recommend catching a movie here anytime!

Yelp
Out of all the malls near central Austin I recommend coming to this one. It is more updated, indoors, has a movie theater and literally has a store for every type of person. Not to mention this place is also huge and they have a lego store.

Yelp
When comparing the enclosed malls in Austin this one is my favorite. It has the high end anchor stores as well as the usual mall fare. It has the high end feel. It's clean, bright and has great interior features. Although it has a large offering of chain stores there are a decent number of stores offering local flavor goods, Unfortunately some of this stores did not survive the reduction in sales as a result of COVID. The food court has a good selection of dining options. Away from the food court California Pizza Kitchen among others is represented. In my opinion it's worth the extra drive to shop here.

amy g.

Yelp
This mall has gone so downhill. The stores are alright, but the last time I went, there was an active shooting scare. So disappointing, because I grew up going here, and I'm too scared to go back

Sophia D.

Yelp
Mikayla and Victoria were wonderful. Got my nose pierced and the line was long due to the Thanksgiving holidays. But they were nice and hospitable, the most gracious ppl I met in ATX my entire visit!!! Thank you. The customer service was good and btw my nose ring came out good too. Way to go team. She helped me with my selection and it was a good value for my money.

Yelp
Yesterday when I was here I was OK with it. Today before the mall even opened when I was here the bathrooms were out of toilet paper and dirty. Now it's 530 at night and the bathrooms are disgusting. I won't go in the details but things that are on the floor that shouldn't be on the floor and there's never any paper towels to dry your hands. This is unacceptable in my opinion
google avatar

Valerie W.

Yelp
Hello, your friendly native Austinite here who spent six years in the Midwest. After reading reviews I figured I should throw in my opinion. This mall is much nicer than people give it credit for. It's overall clean and has a huge selection of shops. The play area has been updated and is a great spot to let your kids run around. The food court is spacious and there are options sprinkled throughout the mall for different snacks and food. I might be incredibly biased because the Dayton Mall has every other shop shutting down or already empty. Barton Creek seems to be thriving against all odds. (We all know online shopping is easier but this place lets you blow your money quickly and you have your item on the spot.)

John S.

Yelp
After watching avatar we made the exit but this security officer saw us walking out and started yelling and recording which was unnecessary. It was our first time but she didn't even tell us where to go and started calling 911 on us. Shame on you buddy
google avatar

Darlene B.

Yelp
it's a great huge mall. Very clean and very nice people there Are friendly. It's during COVID so there's many rules but amazing still. There's a sketcher store. Great massage chairs price starting at 5.00 per 15 mins. There was a huge clearance sale at cotton on and sales in every store. There are exclusive stores as well as the Macy's JCPenney and Dillards and Nordstrom. Due to covid some stores and kiosk chose to remain closed however there was a good amount of stores available.
google avatar

Prasanna B.

Yelp
Worth going here atleast once. You have movies music shopping eating all in one place. What more do you need
google avatar

Celena S.

Yelp
This mall makes me thank God for online shopping. I get that it is after Christmas and everyone is trying to use their gift cards and return gifts they don't want, but dang! There was so many people that you can barely move. Not only was there a ton of people, but it was disgusting. Literally food and trash all over the floors. I used the restroom by the food court and it is appalling. The doors don't lock, the toilets are stopped up, no soap in the dispensers, the floor has what looks to be dirt covered urine all over it. I know that the mall is being remodeled, but maybe have more janitorial staff on hand because that place is gross. I feel that my shoes are less sticky after leaving a carnival than leaving the mall.
google avatar

Johanna J.

Yelp
Barton Creek Square mall offers a lot under one roof and each visit has been a pleasant experience. I don't understand the negative reviews. Yes, the space is undergoing renovations but with each "face-lift project", you need to be patient with progress. This is my go to place due to proximity - Apple, Sephora, Victoria's Secret, Footlocker, Nordstrom, Macy's, Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen and AMC for movie buffs. My one suggestion would be to minimize the number or eliminate the odd sales kiosks.

Sonny D.

Yelp
This is a very beautiful place with great variety. We love shopping here because of the prices are so reasonable. Great place to hang out with friends
google avatar

Jeremie T.

Yelp
Not the best mall in town but def has a variety in the food court. ‍. Couldn't tell you the last time I've seen a lot of these stores.
google avatar

Rob P.

Yelp
Is it the best mall in the world? Nope! But I'd say it's one of the better ones in Austin, and only 10-15 minutes from Downtown. They also have the closest AMC Theatres to Downtown, which is important if you like their Tuesday discount day! Staff at the mall customer service counter is great, never an issue there.
google avatar

Celestina O.

Yelp
This is a great mall. They have everything you could need. Food, electronics, James Avery Jewelry, clothes! The hours are great 10-9 M-S and Sunday's 11-7pm. The maintenance people are great too. Always on top of cleanup and even wipe down the seating area. My only complaint is one that is not even the malls fault but there are always birds that get into the mall somehow and hang out in the food court area. It worries me that they might drop something!! Other than that I will continue to come here often
google avatar

Sidney T.

Yelp
This mall is just about as bland as my taste in clothing. Besides the three colors I wear being white, black, and gray, this mall suffers severely. Before I begin an in depth review which I'm writing for absolutely no reason, I wanted to point out that this mall has been an outlet for my boredom for years. When in doubt, hit the Barton creek mall. It's the perfect place to spot middle school tweens craving a Starbucks beverage as well as stores going out of business weekly probably due to the cost of rent or the fact that we really don't need a store dedicated to pens. Speaking of stores we don't need, I was in hysteria laughing at the fact that we have a store for I believe lamps or maybe stained glass (I personally have no intention from going in there, and I'm not too sure anyone else would know either because I've never actually seen a person in one of those stores besides an employee probably stalking their high school lover on Facebook) In addition, the amount of kiosks with evil pyramid schemes is unreal. The fact that the kiosks stores include one for squishies, one for cheese and meat, as well as bizarre wooden figures is actually very comical. Of course we have our few, but decent stores being Lululemon, Nordstrom, Gap, Old Navy, Pac Sun, and maybe a couple others. This partially covers up the many, many flaws of this mall. However, as a self proclaimed shopaholic, (I know, my bland fashion sense is great) even this mall lets me down. Looking for a decent black dress for your pet hamsters funeral? Yeah you won't find that here Looking for a delicious meal? Best you'll get is a Panda Express which tastes like the seat of a school bus. Looking for a place to let you down? BINGO! Will I come here again? Yes, mostly because this is the only place near me to find clothes or because what high school girl doesn't want to shop and find absolutely nothing? Thank you for your read, I am most likely going to be at this mall tomorrow anyways. Am I a hypocrite for giving this mall a mediocre review and yet I still go on the weekly? Absolutely. Regardless, trust this information and go there at your own risk. Final thing to mention, this is a Simon owned mall whatever that means. All I know is that most Simon malls will probably let you down. However, I'd like to thank this mall for helping me through my tween and teenage years. Not only has this mall seen me looking fabulous, but this mall has witnessed me looking like a victim of the plague and continuing to make me crawl back to this place for no reason at all. Thank you

Yelp
I took my family shopping on Sunday afternoon. We parked and began our shopping at Nordstrom. We spent several hours and hundreds of dollars in the mall. We even stopped and had lunch. Obviously, we were satisfied spending our money and time. At least until we discovered that our vehicle had been burgled while we were shopping. I called the office and was directed to call security. I spoke to the office and gave them our location near Nordstrom's and even used their parking lot signs. We waited about 15 minutes until i finally saw the guard drove by without stopping. I used the alert horn to finally get their attention. The guard informed me that she had been given a different location. I was disappointed to find that the only security they have in the parking lot is for the store entrances. There are no cameras monitoring the customers entering or exiting the mall or the vehicles on the lot. In the time I was at Barton Creek Square, nearly $500 worth of body damage was done in broad daylight on Sunday between 2pm and 5pm. Hundreds of dollars in items where stolen from my vehicle. The worst part though was how violated and hurt. The camera that was stolen had hundreds of memories and a precious gift was also stolen for seeming no reason. I see why box stores are seeing the big declines as online alternatives offer better pricing and safety than brink and mortar stores.

Erik T.

Yelp
1st The renovations cheapened the look of the mall. It used to look more elegant Texan now it looks ugly to say the least. 2nd the restrooms are smelly. Third what happened to the leather couches the ones they have are cheap plastic.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
This mall has really stepped up its game! Welcome Cheesecake Factory, and other new things, but I really like the Cheesecake Factory. The mall seems cleaner, more up to date, and more lively since the remodel! I enjoy coming here now! Last year and prior, the mall felt like it was nearing its last leg. I grew up in Shreveport, LA, where two malls not only closed over the drawn-out death of 3 years, but also transformed themselves into a compound of churches! I'm pleased to say that I no longer feel this way about Barton Creek Square! It's magnificent. I do, however, wish they'd keep up with their bathrooms. The doors are already breaking. The only problem is that Macy's and Sears have this awful mold stench. Is anyone else getting that? Has that been fixed? After re-reading this, I feel I should knock the stars down to 4, but I really like BCS, so I say 5 stars!!
google avatar

Jason T.

Yelp
These guys must have the worst maintenance team in history or the worst budgeting/management team. The escalators have been broken for over a year. Today, not only are the escalator is broken but the elevator is well. While I don't need handicapped access, many do and this is simply unacceptable.
google avatar

Janna L.

Yelp
Cool Mall. Typical stores, some high end, some not. They have a Coach, Cheesecake Factory, Body Shop and a food court. (stand-outs, haha!) I really enjoyed the Yankee candle store and hubby loved the Vans store. It was clean and surprisingly, not decorated for X-mas yet on Oct 23/15. We enjoyed our time here, taking shelter from the rain storm and making the best out of the F1 practice at the track being cancelled .Nothing like a little retail therapy at affordable prices. I think hubby mentioned there is a movie theater here too. The one annoying thing is the pushiness of the center kiosk people at the Mall pushing their products. NO! Quit chasing us! :)
google avatar

Timothy W.

Yelp
This is your average suburban mall built in the 1990s. The mall seems to be fairly well maintained despite its obvious age. It features the typical selection of stores. Macy's, Nordstrom, Sears (perhaps not much longer since they filed for bankruptcy), anchor the mall. Hot topic, Gap, Victoria's Secret, etc are scattered throughout. There's really not much to say. If you've been to one of these malls, you've been to pretty much all. Nothing special about this one.

Every time I go I see smiling faces and happy people and the stores always have what I need and are never out of stock and I love going especially to forever 21 and buying amazing a cute clothes!!do yea I love this place!!

Lark L.

Yelp
So I'm bumping my review up because the mall was kind enough to respond to my 1 star review. The mall has still seen better days and I'm sure the aggressive vendors are still there but that's OK....next time I'll be prepared when someone tries to touch my face!
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Am EXTREMELY disappointed in how the management is handling their covid policies. I was here just last week doing some last minute Christmas shopping and the amount of people allowed into the department stores was sickening. Not mention the amount of people in the mall not wearing their masks correctly. It's sad to see that employees aren't enforcing these policies... would not recommend coming here until covid cases decrease.
google avatar

Luci H.

Yelp
Poor Barton Creek Mall, you get sadder every time we visit. If it weren't for the Apple Store, you would probably be nonexistent. Ok, I'm being harsh, if you're into oddly large crowds and lines for Annie Ann's then by all means come shop here.
google avatar

Madison R.

Yelp
This mall is super nice and really big!! It's always busy and has a ton of good stores and anchors. Cheesecake Factory was a really good addition to this mall and the Finish Line is huge and the employees are super friendly. Great mall and pretty easy parking!!!

Yelp
Comparing Barton Creek to The Domain is like comparing Apples to Oranges. They are not the same and never will be. Barton Creek caters to the middle class suburban family. While the Domain caters more to your middle upper class families. Both have their advantages and disadvantages in terms of stores and parking. There are days when I want/need to get something from Sears or JCPenny's. Unfortunately, the Domain doesn't have those stores. Also, Nordstrom is located here which is surprising considering the clientele. I shop Nordstrom often. So guess what? On those day, the majority of my shopping is done at Barton Creek. Now what's odd to me is how Dillard's and Macy's have anchors stores for both men and women. So if you're shopping with your boyfriend or girlfriend. You can't shop within the same store. I don't understand this concept and it can be an inconvenience. The Cheesecake Factory is coming soon. So this is an added plus for those who shop here. The mall also has an AMC theater, California Pizza Kitchen, Pink Berry and a decent food court. I think people like to trash Barton Creek for no reason. This is one of the better malls in Austin and is still thriving despite The Domain being right up the road.
