Local Japanese Grocery Delivery Company Fulamingo Brings Back Giraffe’s Long-Lost Sandwiches | Eater Portland

"After closing indefinitely last summer, owner Justin Fay has decided to sell Base Camp Brewing rather than reopen in its current Southeast Portland location; he is hoping someone will buy the business and its gear so it can reopen in a new location. The brewery had been in operation since 2012." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Best minestrone soup I’ve had in a long time. I think it was a special but I hope they keep it on the list. I shared it with everyone and they agreed. Live music - and he was good! Kinda loud but not SO loud we couldn’t talk. Big rustic place with big wooden beams and multiple stories. Inside of like a plaza mall so it’s warm inside while you wait; No draft from outside when they open the door. Our waiter, Alex, made fun conversation with us (and was well educated) I had the Steak Tips; SO GOOD. Right next to the mountain but open later than some of the other places so it was perfect for us after a night of skiing. Glad this was recommended to us.

We hosted our wedding reception at Basecamp on 10/4/25, and it was absolutely perfect. If you’re looking for a venue that feels fun, unique, and non-traditional—both in layout and overall vibe—this is the place. The rustic, open environment created a relaxed atmosphere that perfectly fit our style. Alex was amazing to work with. He was incredibly responsive, flexible, and made everything feel easy from start to finish. The food was outstanding—our guests couldn’t stop talking about how delicious everything was. We opted for a casual, cocktail-style reception featuring buffet-style appetizers and dinner, and it worked flawlessly for our crowd. It kept the energy light, allowing everyone to dance, mingle, and enjoy the night. If you’re hoping for a reception that’s laid-back, memorable, and full of great food, this venue is a perfect match. We couldn’t have been happier with our experience at Basecamp!

Given the rebranding/change of ownership we were interested in giving this place. Another shot. The space is beautiful and they have an incredible outdoor dining space. The menu seems to have a lot of variety. My husband got the chicken sandwich and I got the cauliflower steak. One of the things that stuck out to me. The most was how unfamiliar our waiter was with the menu. And what a tedious process it was to find out about allergies. We probably waited a total of a half hour before we truly got an answer and even then it was not clear. This is definitely an area for improvement. Both of our meals were good, but not sure. good enough to come back.

First time trying this joint after spending many years coming up to the valley. Solid choice for a basic smash burger, cooked to perfection and the lettuce bun option made my day. Fries were also properly cooked to a delicious golden crisp, maybe could have had a bit less seasoning (personal preference) but overall not bad. Really was hoping that they would have a good house beer line up as they have an onsite brewery, but I only saw 4 of their own beers available by the glass only and no option was listed on the menus to order a house beer flight(kinda bummed about that). Plenty off major branded beers listed to choose from, but their own brand should really take the spotlight on the menu as brewing is in their name. With so many breweries/restaurants in the area, this location really didn't stand out, but as a plus it's a beautiful location!

We had a gift Gard from when Base camp was formerly One Love and they honored it. Ive eaten here several times when it was One Love although it was good I never felt compelled to write a review. Holly was our server and she was just the sweetest and kindest. We had a shrimp appetizer which could next time just be my meal, they were yummmmmy. I had the steak tips, and oh my they were cooked perfectly and so delicious the mashed potatoes were excellent also. very filling. Hubby had the baked haddock and there were no complaints there either. My Mojito was also made very well and I could of had 3 more, not everyone makes those right.

Jessi took good care of us. We loved our dinners- grilled cheese & tomato soup, fish and chips & the caesar salad! Our food was served nice and hot and without much of a wait! The place is warm and cozy, great spot in the middle of town to hang out with friends. Prices are reasonable and our service was nice from the time we walked in the door being greeted by the host, bar tender, server, food runners… We will be back!!! Thank you!

We stopped in for our first night of vacation not knowing what to expect with new ownership. It was a great experience, Jada was an awesome server, she was sweet and went over the menu which is amazing with all of my allergies. The food was absolutely delicious! If you’re in the area definitely recommend.

One of the BEST places to eat in New Hampshire. We had the bang bang shrimp and clam chowder for appetizers, then the fish and chips and steak tips for the main course. I honestly have no complaints about this brewery. The best fried fish I have had! The batter was so light and flavorful. My boyfriend really enjoyed the steak tips. The drinks were also really great (i have had bad experiences with cocktails), the beers were VERY good also! I will definitely come back to visit!! 10/10 recommend basecamp brewery to ANYONE😁😁
