Visited BBB tonight. Initially things were fine. I got seated in a few minutes, and a few minutes later the server took my order. My drink and food were served within a reasonable time, I finished and was ready to go. However, this is when service practically ground to a halt. It was a Trivia night and though there were several patrons it wasn't too packed.
The server never came back to check on the food.
He never came back to see if I needed a refill or anything.
I waited several minutes after I was done eating and had taken my wallet and credit card out and put in on the table - ready to pay for my order and leave as soon as the server dropped off the check.
Then the server, with a tray full of food in the other hand, dropped off my check in a glass onto my table, never acknowledged me, and went off to deliver the food. I had no chance to let him know I just wanted to pay and leave.
Several more minutes went by and I saw another employee taking care of other customers so I wound up calling him over to pay for my bill. Afterwards, I asked if they were short-staffed since the service was so slow. He said it was a normal night and that it's normally just the two of them.
My advice to the server who served me would be to be more present and in the moment. Tonight, he was too focused on the next thing to bother to see what was going on in the present right in front of him and his ability to serve his customers suffered greatly as a result.
