Basik Cafe Review - Nob Hill - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Basik serves some seriously good acai bowls (or really acai plastic cups/tubs). A few bar seats that look out on Polk Street are all they have inside, so this is more of a grab-and-go situation. But odds are, you’re getting this after going on a run or a trip to the gym anyway, so why slow down by sitting?" - Taylor Abrams

Google
This was the best deal we could find. For $18 the serving is WAY bigger than another place in town. The toppings were layered so it wasn’t just açaí for the large. We bought 2 large and it fed my family of 5. The only issue was the açaí wasn’t super flavorful and we prefer real peanut butter

Technicolor Diver

Google
Found this place not far, within walking distance from my stay while in Kona. Went three times during my stay. It was a great dish to have after morning sure dives. Each time it tasted fresh and delicious. The honey really brought it all together. Even when there was a line order came out relatively quickly. The staff served with a smile.

Google
This is hands down the best açaí bowls ever. We became fans in San Francisco and were so sad when it closed. Landing in Kona this was our first stop! As delicious as ever. Must have!

Google
I love acai bowl. I hubby also liked the one here while he doesn’t usually like acai bowl. He said toppings make him enjoy it.) Oh, and this place also has a great relaxing view!

Google
I heard it was famous place, so I stopped by and took it out. You can order at the second floor. Since it was a large quantity, I ordered one and ate it together. The fruit that came with the acai was fresh and refreshing.

Louise

Google
I ordered the Banyan Bowl with extra peanut butter and added strawberries. It was prepared incredibly fast—ready in under a minute—and tasted absolutely delicious!

Google
Renamed to Acai Hawaii, but it doesn’t live up to its name. Hardly any seating, and they’re using imported bananas. Why come to Hawaii for acai if it doesn’t even feature local ingredients?

Scott Linn

Google
This place was great! I have allergies to spirulina and non-organic bananas. They use organic banana and even made an açai blend without spirulina just for me! The service was top-notch, and the açai bowl was so delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of the best Acai bowls I have ever had! The taste is very fresh and the Acai blend itself is made fresh unlike many other açaí bowl stalls. The fruits combinations are also fantastic! Must try if you have not before!

Yelp
The good: Acia bowl was delicious! We sat up top and watched the ocean. Relaxing atmosphere with nice music. The line moved quick and we got our food quick too!! The eh: overpriced but given the location I guess that makes sense? Service was not particularly friendly. There's only 4 seats to see the view of the ocean and it's PACKED so people were right on top of us the whole time. You have to pay for parking and they ticket in this lot :/

Yelp
Delicious and fresh and close to Ali'I drive. It was a 3 min walk from our room! There is lots of seating upstairs and downstairs with a beautiful ocean view! The chick working was super helpful and sweet and made a great recommendations! I heavily suggest the Puna Acai bowl!

Yelp
Basik Açaí was perhaps one of the best dining experiences in Kona. Oh my gosh... Açaí to die for. Huge huge huge bowl (forgive punctuation but I have alot to say) complimented by the lightest yet richest full flavor honey. Set above with a glorious view of the ocean. I wish we had not discovered this amazing establishment at the tail end of our trip. Basik Açaí would have been a daily indulgence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
Good, but I was slightly underwhelmed by this spot after seeing all the great review about it. Being in Hawaii I assumed that we would find some of the best acai, but it didn't really even come close to the best I've had. This spot is located up the stairs of a building and the seating up top is limited but there are more tables below. A small is $14 and a large (double the size) is $18, so I would highly recommend splitting a large with someone if you can. The price for a small just doesn't really seem worth it. We got the puna bowl which had the classic acai base with strawberries, blueberries, banana, and hemp seeds. The acai base itself wasn't really flavorful - I needed to have it with the banana to make it better. I did really like their granola though, and they were super generous with the portion size of it too. Fine spot to satisfy the acai craving, but don't expect anything too special.

Yelp
First, let's start with the free parking validation--that was amazing. We ordered a small Islander and small Puna. The service was fast and friendly. The bowls were absolute perfection heaping with beautifully ripe fruit. Bonus points for the birds and random geckos hanging out.

Yelp
Needed something refreshing after my run and this was perfect. I ordered a small Banya bowl which had the right amount of toppings and açaí. I waited about 5 mins for my bowl, super quick! They only have a few bowls to choose from but do offer coffee as well. There's seating downstairs and upstairs has a couple but it can get a little cramped.

Yelp
Went here for breakfast and to introduce family to Acai Bowls for the first time.... Everyone agreed they were delicious and would definitely order again. We went with the large size bowls and it was plenty for each couple to share. Fruit was fresh and the flavor blends were great. Only downside were the ants on the picnic tables outside. Would be nice if the owners would address the issue, as they seemed to be living in the wood of the tables...

Yelp
Came up here for some healthy Acai bowls. Menu is short and simple. Several delish options. We got the Mauka and Berry bowls. Portions are generous and seemed appropriate for the price paid. Enough for a meal we thought (breakfast or light lunch) Parking is a bit of a bear here. Service friendly and quick. A couple of small tables. Only complaint, is the use of plastic containers. I know this is a dilemma for a wet product like this, so I cant take off a star. But I always despise single use plastic adding to the garbage pile here on hawaii.

Yelp
Atmosphere: 5 It was a little hard to find at first because it was above a rental business. So look for a two-floor shack-like building in the middle of the parking lot. Basik is on the 2nd floor. There isn't a lot of seating but if you can get seats upstairs, there's a beautiful view of the ocean! Ordering is easy and the menu is super easy to understand. Portion: 5 For one person, the small is enough. If you have more than 1 person choosing the same flavor, definitely get the large. It's basically the same amount of food for not-double the price. Flavors: 5 This is the best acai bowl I've ever had! It's so good that I came 3 times. I had the Kilauea and it had the best combination of toppings. The bee pollen adds a really nice crunch. I love that the granola is a bit grounded up (not too much!) so it's not in big chunks. For added crunch, add cacao nibs! Overall, this is the best açaí bowl I've ever had! So much so that I've been there 3 times in my 5 day stay! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Hands down still the best acai I have had since the first time I had it here back in 2018. The taste, the texture, the delicious crunchy granola, and the fresh fruits along with toppings. The have two sizes, the 16oz or the 32oz. Yes, 32oz may seem intimidating but if you love acai and you can tolerate cold food, 32oz is very manageable. If not, get one and share. Service is pretty fast even when there's a line. So don't be turned away by the line going down the stairs. Simple setting with some bar height stools upstairs, and if you prefer, they have some regular tables and chairs at ground level with some umbrella shades. Or you can just take it to go anywhere.
google avatar

Teresa L.

Yelp
Really loved my açaí bowl and well as the view here! They have switched owners and rebranded to Açaí Co, but it doesn't seem updated on here; all the signage etc is Açaí Co. Very fresh and filling!
google avatar

Kristie P.

Yelp
Perfect way to cool down on a sunny day! Loved the Islander with goji berries on top also got the Puna. Definitely going back before heading home.
google avatar

Yelp
Acai bowls are amazing. This is the perfect go to for a healthy, satieting, and delicious breakfast. They have a few seats upstairs for a gorgeous view of the ocean.

Alex C.

Yelp
Yummy açaí bowls. Get the large, not much more than the small and it's nearly double the size. Worth it! Located above a snorkel shop, couple picnic tables to sit at or if you're staying at the Royal Kona, about a 1 minute walk away.
google avatar

Tony P.

Yelp
This place is a bit hard to find because it's tiny and on the 2nd floor, but it was worth the search. The view is very cool. The bee pollen was fresh and tasty along with the açaí. Overall it was good but the strawberries were very tart. Also the service was bland with no recommendations. I wouldn't say it was poor but needed more to get an excellent rating. Still worth the visit for sure. Ciao!
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
Quick, fast Acai bowl! The acai is more on the icy than smooth side. Not many seats up top. A bit expensive but that's Hawaii. Better acai bowl than another place I went to in Kailua Kona. My star rating: 5 - must go!!! 4 - liked it, give it a try! 3 - it was alright 2 - I probably won't go back 1 - turnaround and run
google avatar

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Best on the island. The fruit and Acai is juicy and top quality ingredients. They have a nice sitting area to enjoy your order. In the shade. The service was quick and the staff was knowledgeable and patient with my questions.... Their menu has something for everyone. I recommend 100% while you're in Kona . Have a fantastic day and aloha.

Yelp
Super excited to get acai during our stay in Hawaii, and this place seemed like a solid hole in the wall. Unfortunately, it really didn't live up to expectations, at least compared to what I've had in SF. The acai base is quite flavorless, and also really icy, to the point where when you first dig in, it's completely solid. I feel like they watered down their base quite a bit. The toppings are also quite sparse; by the end, it was just eating plain acai base. I felt this particularly with the large size. In the middle, they added a thin layer of just granola, whereas other places will normally do a layer of all toppings. There's some seating at the bottom which is convenient, but I would personally recommend trying one of the other acai places in the area!
google avatar

kristie k.

Yelp
Really solid acai bowl! Staff is friendly, menu is easy to pick from. Has a nice view while you wait for your bowl.
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
The place is located on 2nd floor of Snorkel Bob shop. It's very small, big enough to get your order in and wait for it. They do have seating on the edges but feels a bit cramped. I ordered the Kilauea açaí bowl for $18. The small was $14 so it made more sense to order the large. Ordering was easy and the food came out fairly quick. The açaí bowl was good and it's a great option for fast healthy breakfast.
google avatar

Sne G.

Yelp
You must try a Acai bowl while you are on the Island, abudance of tropical fruits and nuts home grown. Basik cafe is in the center of Kailua Kona city, and typically offers Acai bowls and smoothies. However when I visited they did not have smoothies. I got the cacao Acai bowl small size, and it was very refreshing, topped with lot of granola, cacao nibs and fresh fruit. The prices seemed a little higher, but I finished the bowl happily without any complaints.
google avatar

Ashley T.

Yelp
Basil Cafe is the perfect place to go to for breakfast or a quick snack before strolling along Alli Drive. The workers were very helpful and the food came out super quickly. The large is large so would definitely recommend sharing with others! There are 6 different types of bowls with different toppings that you can get. We loved both that we got! It is at the top of a snorkel gear rental place so you'll need to climb up a few flights of stairs to order. There are also parking spots available for customers! Minimal seating upstairs and a few tables at the bottom.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered the ISLANDER ACAI BOWL. I really like it since it wasn't too sweet. They added a lot of granola which made it much tastier. I ordered large and the portion is good for 2 people. Great oceanfront view. Plenty of parking. Quick service and employees were nice. I'll definitely come back again!
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
Good açaí bowl. A little on the pricier side, but to be fair everything is a little pricier in Hawaii. Ingredients tasted fresh and it was still yummy. Parking is free for customers up to 2-3 hrs but you need to talk to the cashier and let them know because otherwise you might get a ticket or have to pay around $8/hr
google avatar

Sandra G.

Yelp
Best Acai bowl I've had so far. The fruit is so fresh and delicious. I got mine with added peanut butter which made it even better. My friends and I agreed that it's much better than what we can find in our hometowns (Reno, NV and Santa Clarita, CA). It's a little pricey, but what isn't in Hawaii?

Mika H.

Yelp
Quality is consistent and my fav acai bowl spot. My favorite is Puna Bowl. If you are by yourself, you can sit upstairs on the bar and enjoy the nice view. If you come with larger parties 3-4 people, there are few picnic tables available.
google avatar

Evie H.

Yelp
Great acai bowls here. It is pricey so might as well just get the large which I think is so much more worth it than the small. Double the amount for only $4 more! We got the Puna bowl which was solid. What makes it extra good here and therefore deserving of the 5 stars, is their fantastic granola which they mix in throughout the entire container, not just at the top. Every bite you get granola which is my favorite! Not a lot of acai places are so generous with the granola so if you like granola, this is the place for you.
google avatar

Kosha P.

Yelp
Acai bowls, the perfect snack to cool you down in the heat! The cafe is located on the second floor of the shed. It's a small place but super popular, and for good reason. There are only 2 different sizes, a small or a large. We ended up ordering a large and sharing. I ordered the Kilauea. The base was acai and mango juice and topped with fresh fruit, granola, and goji berries. It was probably one of the best acai bowls I've ever had. It is pricey but was much needed after walking in the heat. If you're able to get a seat on the top deck, you'll get an incredible view of the ocean. Definitely worth a try!
google avatar

Lance G.

Yelp
One of my got to breakfast spots on the island. The açaí bowls are delicious and packed with nutrition. Seating is very limited up stairs but they have a few tables downstairs. These Açaí bowls are a great way to start your day especially if you are looking for a light breakfast. So much flavor in every bite.
google avatar

Brigitte L.

Yelp
Located adjacent to the Royal Kona Resort, on the second floor of the scuba shop. Be warned that if the gate is closed and they appear to be closed, you may want to try the gate before standing in line lol. This happened to us! There was a line because the gate was shut despite it saying they opened at 9am. It was about 9:07am before the person in the front of the line tried the gate and we all laughed that we didn't try earlier. This little place seems to be very popular and I know why! The bowls are fabulous and fruit is fresh. Granola used is gluten free also. Seating available upstairs for a wonderful view while dining or grab your perfect picture of your bowl with the ocean in the background! Be warned that the sizes are huge! Staff is super friendly and can make adjustments to the bowls if needed. Recommend trying!!
google avatar

Josh H.

Yelp
We had breakfast here twice during a week in Kona. The menu is simple, but the acai bowls are excellent. The cold brew coffee is good, but the option of hot coffee would be appreciated.
google avatar

Sue K.

Yelp
Came to Basik for my first açaí bowl in Kona and the reviews did not disappoint! Ordered the Forager and loved the combination of granola, fresh fruit, cacao nibs, crushed almonds, and honey. However, there isn't a significant difference between the various açaí bowl options (aside from 1 or 2 ingredients) which is the main reason for 4 stars. At $14 for a small bowl, Basik is also on the pricier end. There's limited deck seating available upstairs with a gorgeous view of the ocean, as well as some patio seating downstairs. Service was unbelievably quick; we got our order literally within minutes!
google avatar

Caitlin M.

Yelp
So good! A little spendy but the quality is good. Service was fast and friendly. Loved my food
google avatar

Jill L.

Yelp
I shared a small Islander ($11) with my friend since we were still full from breakfast. This place is super cute, we had our açai bowl upstairs overlooking the beautiful beach. There was a line of about five groups ahead of us at 11 AM. The açai bowl was pretty yummy! I wish they had more flavor options though. Price was a bit steep.
google avatar

Nick L.

Yelp
First a PSA-- At the time of writing, there was a sign posted stating their hours are  Mon-Sat 9AM-3PM. They have not updated their website, Yelp or Google. I came around here one morning at 8AM hoping it would be open and it was not. Just want to make this known since I know people have plans. The acai bowls here are good and are reasonably priced. They get quite filling with the granola. It can get a little cramped upstairs but they're willing to bring the bowls down to you if you're waiting downstairs. There are only two seats upstairs. They also offer lids if you want it to go. You are able to substitute fruit. If you take a look at the menu, all of the bowls seem like they're the same. For the most part they are, just with different fruit. I ordered the Islander multiple times and it did not disappoint.
google avatar

Claudia M.

Yelp
Great Açaí bowls and friendly staff! Glad we could walk to here easily from the Royal Kona Resort. Be careful climbing the steps, but the ambiance upstairs is very chill, low-key, island style. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Adel W.

Yelp
They raised prices a bit, and the acai is kinda runny/not as sweet, but overall experience was very nice :) The bowls came out super fast and the fruit was sweet.

Salvador V.

Yelp
One of the best açaí bowls I've tried. Usually others are packed with sugar but these ones are delicious and healthy.
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
Good açaí bowls, but expensive. $18 for a large. $11 for a small. $30+ for two bowls. Guess that's the going rate though. Two story little hut, behind the hotel. Fast service. DD2 got the large tropical, and was surprised she ate most of it! DD1 got the basic (açaí, bananas), and ate most of it as well. Guess it's a healthy breakfast :) No nuts in the granola :) Nice view from the top floor and nice to have a few tables out front.
google avatar

Kay D.

Yelp
Tasty acai bowl! For family or friends that don't mind sharing, buy the large açaís bowl for $18 which is basically 2 regular size açaí bowl that is sold for $14 each. The large can feed 3 people. Get your moneys worth and also not waste.
google avatar

Lucia L.

Yelp
A cafe specializing in açaí bowls. I tried the Kilauea - base was acai & mango juice topped with granola, strawberries, papaya, goji berries & bee pollen. Refreshing on a hot day! My only gripe is that the açaí is already made and frozen so it icy instead of a thicc creamy consistency which is why I'm giving this place 3 stars.
google avatar

Aurora M.

Yelp
best acai i've had on the big island! good selection of bowls and great acai base mixture.
google avatar

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
This Acai bowl spot was recommended to us by a local and was right down the street from where we were staying. We stopped in one afternoon to grab a snack. They were absolutely delicious. Obviously they are sweet and have a lot of sugar from the fruit but they are the perfect cold treat for warm weather. My BF and I shared one small "Forager" Acai bowl and it was plenty for 2 people. I really loved the combination of everything all in one bite. My sisters also got their own bowls and thought they tasted great. Highly recommend!

Melody O.

Yelp
Great açaí, very friendly service. I ordered no banana and he asked if it was an allergy because they blend it in the açaí. I have ordered no banana all the time at many other places and have never been asked! Now I know to order no banana at all - thank you!!
google avatar

Nicolas L.

Yelp
My wife and I visited Basik Café twice for a quick breakfast during a recent trip to Kona. I tried the Kilauea and Banyan Acai Bowls. The Kilauea was topped with fresh flavorful juicy strawberry and papaya, sweet honey and crisp granola. The Banyan was topped with soft flavorful bananas and crunchy almonds. Both were very refreshing and a great way to start the morning.
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
Opens at 8 and is up stairs above another business. Super fast and fresh. Staff was friendly and seating up top for 2
google avatar

Anthony N.

Yelp
Basic If this was in another place where there was competition this would never fly... but alas not too many açaí bowl places so they get away with locking u into certain combinations they have instead of letting u choose ur toppings like most of the ones in cali do. Was it pretty good? Yeah Was it worth going out of my way for? Naw It was okay... I prefer the açaí bowl place that's down the street across from the small jewelry store.

Donna M.

Yelp
Delicious Acai bowls! Generous servings, fresh ingredients. It was a perfect way to start our adventure for the day! We brought them to the beach to enjoy with a view! The seating is limited but if there are seats open, it's a great place to enjoy them as well!
