"On February 19, Eater Carolinas disclosed that the 460 King Street location of Thai restaurant Basil would shutter when its lease ended in May — now there is confirmation from the eatery’s management that tonight will be the final evening for the downtown mainstay. Open for takeout only at this point, Basil has served Charleston since 2002." - Erin Perkins

"Basil has been a cornerstone of Upper King since before Upper King was cool. All of the entrees come with a tofu option. That means you can have pad thai, red curry, or prik king without worry." - Erin Perkins

Best thai food I had in US! Drunken noodles and green curry were simply fantastic and perfectly spiced. The rice portion was very small but they brought an additional one for free. Friendly service and nice ambiance in the restaurant. Very clean. We visited one other location and it was great as well.

I've been repeatedly and will continue to go often. Excellent food and love the open kitchen concept. Great staff every time I've been...maybe 25 times or more. If you haven't tried the whole flounder dish...treat yourself. Top notch restaurant. The Barramundi & shrimp with ginger is off the charts DELISH! Both downtown and Mt. Pleasant locations are great. Ask for nam pla :-)

Had the fish with three sauces. Very, very good. They serve the whole flounder, fried, with a very complimentary sauce (I believe the 'three sauces' are combined). It was pricey at $30, but I was very impressed. Followed up with the fried bean ice cream. It was good, but the shell it was fried in was a bit much. It was hard and had extra dough in random places on the inside which resulted in bites of only dough. Ended with an espresso, which was as good as you'd expect from a Thai restaurant, not great, but good enough.

Went to Basil while in town on vacation on a Saturday evening. Given that we showed up shortly after they opened, we were immediately seated. Our waitress was very polite, attentive, and informative (the stuffed shrimp appetizer was fantastic). Our food was brought out in a timely manner and was delicious (two of us got the pad thai and the other the cashew chicken). All in all, definitely worth a trip if you're in the mood for Thai.

This place was, hands down, one of the best Thai/SE Asian food places I’ve ever eaten...and I’ve eaten around many places in the US and abroad. I should have knows that the food would have been amazing after the first course came out! The Tom Gha chicken/coconut soup was seasoned perfectly with green onion, scallion, and cilantro. And the presentation in the metal (and fire lit) bowl was new! The rolls with the peanut sauce were to die for! The wing were great! My main course of crispy, red curry duck was unbelievable (not pictured)! My wife had drunken noodles, very good (not pictured, the food was too good to pause). Overall great experience! Great food! Must visit list in Charleston!

Delicious food and a good selection of locals on tap. We got the wontons, Green Curry with Chicken and the Red Curry Duck (pictured). The duck was a little chewy and fatty, but the flavors of the curry overall were exceptional! Cheesecake for the finish was perfect!

Great food selections, great staff, nice atmosphere. This is definitely more of an upscale Thai spot versus a small mom and pop shop. Good wine and drink list to chose from and prices are reasonable!

Nice atmosphere and good service. Beware vegetarians-- your ordering options are very limited if you don't eat fish sauce. The curries with tofu are all vegan though and very tasty.
