Went up to the bar because dining area was busy. I appreciate the hostess for letting us know that. But we order the different types of duck and dumplings. It was good just wish they didn’t drench it in sauce because it made the skin saggy.

Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. Our reservation was confirmed promptly, and the staff inquired about our preferences for indoor or outdoor seating and any special occasions. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the hostess and promptly seated. The venue is very spacious with a beautiful view over the lake, adding to the ambiance. The menu offered a wide variety of dishes, all of which were served and cleared in a timely manner. Our custom cake was stored in the refrigerator and later sliced and served perfectly. The food was delicious and the service professional. Highly recommend this place for any occasion!

This is not your typical Thai restaurant! Upscale, great atmosphere and wonderful service. The happy hour is our favorite in Mt Pleasant and sitting on the back deck during sunset is such a lovely experience. Have not had a bad bite here, but our favorite fish is the pad see ew with beef. Thank you Basil for being our go-to Friday date night spot!

I have been to Basil back in the day when they were in downtown Charleston, now they move to Mt. Pleasant with better space, view, and bar upstairs. The food we order was all amazing and scrumptious. Open the kitchen so you can see how food has been cooked. And wine and cocktails were superb as well. Highly recommend!

Google
Their food is amazing and always has been. The manager or whatever she is and the girls at the hostess stand, not so much. Maybe don’t treat every pick up order like they are second class or an uber eats driver. Your treatment of your customers matters outside of those dining in.

Update: We have been back a couple times and enjoyed every visit. This is easily our new go to for Asian cuisine. Tonight we had sweet and sour with tofu. Unfortunately didn't get a photo of the appetizer but they were great as well. Came for restaurant week and was very impressed! Interesting cocktails and the food was amazing. Don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu!

If you are used to paying NY prices (ie. not much) for excellent Thai food, you are going to have an unhappy surprise when you go to Basil. It is really expensive, but it's also excellent. So, if you can get over shelling out about double what you are used to, go. Food is delicious and authentic, the ambiance is nice and the service is good. It's also family friendly. Food highlights include the masaman curry, the green curry, the tom kha soup, and the fried dumplings. They also have a lot of specialty cocktails and plenty to choose from in the wine and beer department. Parking isn't bad - getting in is challenging. We highly recommend reservations, even on a weeknight!

I had a fantastic experience at Basil! The menu was a delight, with standout dishes like the duck dish, som tam, red curry, fish with fermented soya, and some incredibly tasty chicken wings—each packed with authentic Thai flavors. The decoration is truly impressive, adding a special touch to the meal, and the intimate atmosphere made it feel cozy and welcoming. They also offer a private room, which is perfect for special occasions, and the tables outside on both floors are a romantic highlight—ideal for a date night. On top of that, the service was fast, friendly, and attentive. Highly recommend this spot for anyone craving great Thai food in a memorable setting!

Yelp
As always food is good ! The owner always stops by to check on our dinner. It's a little lowed when there are big parties. Service is always good

Yelp
Came here for date night and we sat upstairs on the balcony. Nice view over a pond with some ducks in it. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive with us! We ordered the steamed dumplings, pad thai and the red curry duck. Dumplings were very tasty and not soggy like some places I've been to. The entrees were nicely portioned. The pad thai was good - more peanuty and sweeter than I'm used to but still good. The roast duck was very good and would get this again!

Susan M.

Yelp
This a delightful Thai cuisine! The portions are large and can be shared! My daughter and I split the Wonton Soup and Shrimp Fried Rice. The Wonton Soup comes in a large elevated steaming dish that is festive and fun for the whole table. Consisted of large meaty wontons, chopped celery, and chopped green onions. Fresh and full of flavor. The Shrimp fried rice was loaded with carrots, zucchini, onions and red peppers. Not overly salted. We sat outside overlooking a fountain and lighted palms. The view was soothing and pleasant. The staff work as a team and are very polite. We had to wait a bit due to a full house but it was worth it! Coming back soon!

Yelp
pathetic. no hostess to seat guests. chairs in disaray. charged for an adult drink with grapefruit juice and ice. no rice brought to the table with curry entree. asked to pay for the spring rolls, was confronted by the hostess rudely and received no explanation for any of my concerns. SERVICE was outstanding though, Skylar took care of me!

Christian C.

Yelp
Came with 3 friends on a Saturday evening at around 8:30 pm. I had made a reservation but I think we would've been sat pretty soon even without one. We shared the pad Thai, green curry with chicken, basil entree with pork, and the red curry duck. My personal favorites were the red curry duck and green curry. The red curry duck had a crispy skin (although the duck itself was a bit dry). The red curry was yummy but I wish they had put in a little more. The green curry was perfect, no complaints. The pad Thai unfortunately was too sweet and the noodles were too soggy. I thought the pork in the basil entree was really dry. Really what redeemed this place were the curries. Our waitress was kind enough to give us a free refill of rice as well. Dinner came to around $30/person after tip.

Yelp
Updated review. The best in the area as far as consistently good food, service and ambience. Bravo, Basil! (4.75 stars).

Chloe H.

Yelp
I was really impressed at Basil in Mount pleasant ! The service was fantastic. It was a fun atmosphere and the food was delicious! They had a lot of great options on the menu. Looking forward to going back

Yelp
We decided to give this place a try for my husband's birthday and they did not disappoint!! We ordered several dishes off of the menu since it was his first time there. Every dish was absolutely delicious! 5 stars for each dish!! The service was impeccable and our server was very knowledgeable about the menu & made great suggestions. The ambiance was amazing! This restaurant is absolutely beautiful and you can see the chefs cooking in the kitchen. Can't wait to go back for round two!!

Alterea G.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful. When I go to this place I do not want to leave. It's so beautiful, and the food is outstanding, I love the tempura shrimp appetizer. And the shrimp fried rice? Oh my! The noodles good gracious, make you bite your tongue can't wait to go back, oh it's so good.

Lisa S.

Yelp
Excellent food. I placed the order online noting a nut and shellfish allergy and immediately received a call because one of the items had a shellfish sauce which they substituted for me. I'm so happy that they take it so seriously. The shrimp soup, red curry duck and duck fried rice were so flavorful. I'd highly recommend this restaurant. Takeout took. 40 minutes on a Saturday at 6 pm so call early.

Victoria B.

Yelp
Casual yet elegant atmosphere with Asian inspired touches. Great service. Wonderful pad thai with generous portions an reasonable prices! Enjoyed my meal!

Carolyn P.

Yelp
We visited Basil in Mt. Pleasant during restaurant week, so they were busy!! Food was delicious! Service was great! We will return

Yelp
I love going to Basil. I come here all the time with my family and the food is always spot on. The restaurant is so nice in general and I love the decor. The staff is super friendly. I recommend going here.

Dana R.

Yelp
If you're looking for fancy Thai food, Basil is it. As a Charleston native, Basil is still one of my top restaurants if I'm feeling a more than casual vibe to eat. I went for my birthday and ordered the fried wontons, egg rolls, and the cashew nuts with chicken as the main course. I LOVE spicy food, so I ordered the Thai hot which is the spiciest you can get. My friends ordered just the hot and they felt like it was too much, so I suggest going off on a more mild heat if you're worried. We were also given three different spices to add to our food as well if we wanted to up the heat or add in a different flavor. Once we were finished with the main course, our server brought out a birthday dessert which was fried green tea ice cream. I was completely full, but I still made an effort to finish, which was delicious. The manager also came out and offered milk for any of us who thought the food was too spicy. My friends declined, however she ended up bringing us cheesecake anyways at no charge to mild down the spice from the main course. As for the drink selections, I really liked the Basil Cocktail as I'm more of a vodka girl, however this time I tried the Mango Martini. Personally it was a little too sweet for me and I couldn't taste the alcohol at all. Some say that's the easiest way to get drunk, but I didn't feel anything from that one martini, and I'm not a huge drinker. Because of this, I won't be ordering again and will most likely stick with the Basil Cocktail. Overall, the food is amazing and the staff goes above and beyond for your needs. Would recommend.

Laura B.

Yelp
It was good! but so pricey $$$ for how much you get and for what it was. There wasn't any spice and they didn't even ask about spice level which i thought was weird for Thai food. Chicken was kinda dry in both dishes and I felt like there wasn't even sauce on it. We got chicken pad Thai and pad see ewe= $45 ! Insane. Likely wont go back because of prices but nice ambiance inside.

Dan S.

Yelp
A very good Thai restaurant to choose if Mount Pleasant. The food is fresh and well prepared. You'll enjoy eating in or taking out a meal from Basil.

Emily F.

Yelp
Five star experience for me! I do know what to order that makes it 5/5 though! - I love that they take reservations can get busy in summer - 3 flavor fish is my favorite it's a huge and fried flounder with a yummy sweet- leaning garlicly chili sauce - fried rice with shrimp is the best fried rice so flavorful but NOT super greasy and heart burn inducing - Tom ka ga soup is so so good and perfect to share, good amount of chicken and mushroom, impressive presentation - fried wontons have that perfect crunch with a better quality filling than most - these are the things I liked but didn't make my mouth water: red curry, & pad see ew. I do love these dishes but I have had better Basil roll was incredibly bland I frequent this place but can't say it's 5/5 because I can't recommend everything my party usually wants I'm a happy camper tho.

Janie M.

Yelp
The soups are wonderful and huge portions. We had the wonton and the coconut Thai and would definitely reorder. Other favorite apps were the lettuce wraps. The satay chicken kabobs were ok, a little dry.

Mike P.

Yelp
Delicious food and the service is always great. If you visit during their happy hour, you will be able to enjoy some fabulous appetizers and drinks . Basil has a beautiful setting overlooking the lake. Try it and you'll have a new favorite place to enjoy.

Dirty S.

Yelp
Great food and cocktails! Tom Yum is legit! Definitely worth a try if your in Mount Pleasant.

Suprabha D.

Yelp
Don't let them shove you upstairs to dine, the bar is so incredibly noisy with the music blasting so loudly you have to yell to hear one another, and when the elevator opened up not one waiter turned around to welcome us. We walked in, still ignored by the 2 waiters, took a look and walked back downstairs and insisted on a table there. We ate because we were hungry, our waiter was wonderful which more than made up for the upstairs lack of attention and being told to go upstairs to eat when there were obviously many open tables on the main floor at 530 on a weeknight. Pad Thai is generous, chicken was overcooked, the shrimp were grilled well.

Edwin L.

Yelp
Basil Thai is one of the few good Ethnic restaurants in the Charleston area. Great food, decent ambiance, excellent wine list and really good service. I highly recommend you try this restaurant.

James J.

Yelp
Great ambiance, intimate location for a cozy dinner, nice Thai menu, excellent service, one of our favorites.

Cassie H.

Yelp
Fresh, delicious Asian food is a bit like trapping a unicorn in the Mount Pleasant area, but Basil never disappoints. I never get tired of the dishes here. My family often shares multiple dishes and I don't believe I've ever had a disappointing dish in our many, many visits. Great, modern decor with beautiful lighting while managing to maintain a casual, friendly vibe. Service is always professional and friendly, though often rushed during the prime dinner service hours. Reservations recommended. Some of our family's favorite dishes include the barramundi, tom kha soup, pad thai, pad see ew, and massaman curry. Kudos to the bartender(s) for making a wonderful Old Fashioned. Five well-deserved stars.

Anne O.

Yelp
They do have a few things on the authentic side, but mostly Americanized. I always go for the Barramundi with Basil sauce. Spicy, but so delicious. Still tasty and quite a bit of the menu is spicy, so be sure to ask your server. My suggestion is to cool those fired-up taste buds with their heavenly coconut ice cream.....

Scott T.

Yelp
Oh my, what a wonderful restaurant! We sat on the rooftop and enjoyed the sunset through the trees while enjoying perfect cocktails and appetizers. If you're with friends this is a fun place with food to die for! They were a little bit understaffed but the waiters worked extra hard to make up for it. Our primary waiter was very friendly while still giving us space to enjoy our food. Try a bit of everything.

Emily C.

Yelp
Getting to go to Basil is such a treat. I love Thai food, and their meals are consistently delicious. I visit their locations in Greenville and Mount Pleasant often. The restaurants themselves have a great ambiance. I've been ordering mostly takeout due to COVID, and I really enjoy my meal. My favorite dish is the Thai Basil Chicken, which includes bell peppers, basil, and onion and is served with rice. I ordered with people who got pad Thai and they really liked their meal too. I have a dairy allergy and they are always very accommodating and have many dairy-free dishes. Definitely don't skip Basil the next time you are near the coast!

Denise C.

Yelp
The food is delicious. The service outstanding! Put this on your bucket list of places to try ! I love the atmosphere also. Very inviting

LuAnn Y.

Yelp
The food is excellent here just wish they had they happy hour like they used to. But the food is really good when I'm over by target I like to go there.

Stuart H.

Yelp
Always the bomb. Best Thai food in Charleston. Don't forget to make a resy if you are going in a weekend.

Sarah I.

Yelp
Basil is a regular haunt. The downtown Basil has permanently closed so the Mount Pleasant Basil does seem a little busier (could be any number of reasons really!) Some days are better here than others. It was pretty cold so we decided to sit inside. Outside does have heating and is pretty comfortable once all the heaters get going, but if there aren't enough people outside you'd be better off sitting inside. Service was impeccable. 10/10 for the nice young man who was happy to chat with us. It was a busy night but he made time to be hospitable. We ordered the fresh Basil rolls. This is the Vietnamese style shrimp and rice noodle roll, wrapped in rice paper. It is served with a sweetened hoisin sauce with peanuts. We also had the chicken larb, which is diced chicken served with cabbage leaves for yiu to wrap yourself. My friend decided to just eat the chicken so we had a block of cabbage left lol!!! Our entrees were the (can't go wrong) Pad Thai and I had the Volcano Shrimp. There were 6 large grilled jumbo shrimp, served with wilted cabbage, steamed broccoli and cauliflower, topped with a light red sauce. Yes more cabbage!!! My meal was refreshingly light and delicious. The dish is expensive at $28 when compared to the other menu items. Overall a relaxing night out, good food, fabulous service, however it may not be the best value for money.

Michael B.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place out for awhile now. My wife and I included; it was one of those weekends where we just didn't feel like going out! So, we called in our orders for pick up...I can't speak for the service eitherway but Price to portion not all that great! Unsure if we'll be going back.

Rosanna C.

Yelp
Exactly what I would think a Thai restaurant looks like. Best Thai in Charleston. I go as often as I can.

D O.

Yelp
We went here the other night for my dads bday and the upstairs is very cute and they have happy hour from 5 - 6:30. All our food was so good. Plus all the servers were hot (if u were my server and u see this, call me)

Deseri T.

Yelp
Super disappointed, made a reservation for five at this restaurant hours ahead of time for my friends birthday. We were sat at a four top, with a fifth chair added in the middle of a busy aisle. When we asked if there was a potentially better table we were met with disrespect. If we were a walk-in I'd understand, but we made a reservation for five, why try to sit us a table for four? Lost our service.

Denise O.

Yelp
We ate dinner here last Saturday night. We had a great experience overall. Our server, Skyler, was very attentive and extremely knowledgeable. Everything we ordered, from appetizers to entrees, was delicious. The menu has plenty of gluten free options, which is always nice. I also thought the food and the drinks were very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend visiting Basil if you are looking for a good restaurant in Mount Oleasant!

Mary D.

Yelp
A yummy way to start the weekend. Didn't know this spot had an upstairs and outside upstairs area. Really pretty with several inside table and chairs and large bar area. The food was really good and piping hot! The waitstaff was really nice and there wasn't a long wait for the food to arrive. I really had a good meal and after having a trying week at worth it was quite a treat!

Greg Z.

Yelp
Excellent food generous portions very nice atmosphere and a bar on 2nd. level with outdoor patio overlooking lagoon

Jennings N.

Yelp
This was our first time to Basil in Mount Pleasant. It was a truly wonderful experience. From the food to the staff to the ambience. We will be back and would recommend this to anyone for any occasion.

Diane Z.

Yelp
I would definitely eat here again. Service was good, the restaurant is beautiful, and we got sat almost immediately after we arrived. The food was delicious! We had the Wonton soup as a starter, jasmine tea, and then the Pad See-Eu for my entree. My dad had the Basil Mixed Seafood, and he said it wasn't quite spicy enough for him. So full after our meals that we couldn't even think about dessert.

Kris T.

Yelp
Went for dinner. Nice atmosphere and food was pretty good. Had their soup which was a huge portion and very much enjoyed. My husband had the massamam curry and he gave rave review.

Rebel O.

Yelp
The red curry sauce was great but the pieces of chicken in the pot had some bone or grisel in it. It would have received 4 stars the sauce and inside of the resturant was perfect.

Angela R.

Yelp
Get the chicken coconut soup! You won't be sorry. Awesome place with great service and great food. The only Thai restaurant we eat at anymore.

Christine L.

Yelp
Found this place on a whim, but it was soooo good! The wait staff was very nice and the food was amazing! I find it hard to find good Asian food in Charleston, but this place is definitely a great spot. I also had a mango martini and that was so tropical with just enough sweetness. I also like how their pad Thai had chicken and shrimp. My only complaint is that the chicken parts were dry, but I will 10000% come back

Kathryn B.

Yelp
We always do take out from Basil, ordering a mixed variety of foods and then eating family-style. The aromas are fantastic as each container is opened, the food tastes fresh, and the shrimp are cooked perfectly. Thai curries tend to be lighter and more delicate than those of other regions. I favor a bit more spice, but the levels are good for sharing with people who prefer a less heavy hand with the chilis. If you're new to the area, expect to pay a smidgen more for your Thai than you might have in other regions. However, you'll be happy with the quality. If I had one knock it would be that egg rolls only come as two or three pieces. It's a small nit, but if Satay comes with four pieces, why not a similar option for the egg rolls? Instead, a 2 piece order = $5.50 ($2.75 each). A 3 piece is $7.50 ($2.50 each). To get 4 pieces, the customer pays for two smaller orders. On the one hand, when we're already spending close to $90 for four people's take out, what's an extra $5.50? On the other hand, it's the small "value" perception that a 4 piece order should not cost more per piece than the 3 piece order. (Sorry folks, my math brain just works that way!) Regardless, don't let my nit deter you from Basil. The food is delicious and supporting our local community is important.

Ashi C.

Yelp
We were super excited to try out this Basil restaurant. The night before we had stumbled upon this restaurant on our way to ice cream store. Restaurant has nice outdoor setting. In the evening, they light up the torch. However service sucks. They sat us down and the table was super dirty. I had to request them twice to clean our table and still they didn't clean properly . We ordered drinks and they were all watered down because it had so much ice. They brought out the white rice without our food. Rice was sitting and getting cold while we waited for food for 15 mins. We were four people at the table, they only gave us three plates and said to use one of the entrée plate. We ordered entree plates to share. Seriously!!! Fancy restaurant but lazy to wash dishes. They served us food but no utensils to use. We had asked the waitress to make our entree super hot. She said, I'll make extremely hot. I think she forgot to put correct order. It wasn't spicy at all. We had to request chillies twice and we were almost done eating. Definitely not going back to this restaurant.

Rob W.

Yelp
We ordered carryout. I had a satay, soup, and beef salad. I was really sick after eating the food - full purge. I call the manager to inform thinking that they might want to have a look so it would not happen to someone else. He proceeded to tell me all the reasons why it could not have been their responsibility. Not a bit of empathy.

TR L.

Yelp
The food was fabulous. My wife and I ordered several appetizers, wonton soup, and a main course as well as a cocktail. It was our first time here and it came highly recommended. It did not disappoint. We sat outside as it was a comfortable temperature. Great place!

Banks R.

Yelp
Coconut chicken soup had a nice sweetness to it with the perfect amount of chicken. A nice sharing size. Pad Thai was delicious. So was the red curry! Would recommend a reservations because the wait time was over an hour on a Monday night.

David W.

Yelp
Easily our fav Thai restaurant we've ever been to. Anywhere. We have our go to dishes, but we've never tried anything here that wasn't really good. Portions, quality, taste - all great. Higher priced than most, but it's also flat out better. We go here almost weekly. Great outdoors area and upstairs bar.
