Why Kigali, Rwanda, Should Be More Than a Layover Before Your Gorilla Safari

"Croissants and eclairs to rival any Parisian boulangerie can be found at Baso Patissier. Born to a Rwandan father and Belgian mother, pastry chef Bruno Basomingera trained in Belgium before moving to Rwanda in 2011. Order a breakfast of pain au chocolat and café au lait on the sun-drenched patio. The patisserie also serves omelets, grilled sandwiches, and a soup du jour throughout the day."

Outstanding pastries! Best I’ve found in Kigali yet and I’m 15+ cafes in this trio exploring to find the gems, this is one! We arrived at 9:30 on a Sunday to find it packed of expats and locals both who agree with me. The almond croissants were better than some spots in France! Hands down. They had a wide selection of other pastries and sweet treats. The only downside is when it was so busy they were very overwhelmed and there were minimal spots to sit. That speaks to the high demand of the place! Finding it is a bit of an adventure, look for the sign on the street and doors down a long driveway. You can park up on the street or down in the driveway. There is a sandbox and a small slide for for 18months - 3 yrs old and a big area for other kids to play if they brought their own activities - balls, paper etc

Come for the rosemary and sea salt focaccia stay for the heavenly almond croissant ! Lovely setting , quiet and peaceful ..real French and Italian breads and pastry ..white bread only but excellent croissant, focaccia and Lucious pastries made fresh daily in small batches to ensure freshness. Settle in for a peaceful place to munch and work or takeout to enjoy at home A must stop on our trips down to kigali from Musanze in the North for picnic provisions Located in a peaceful leafy neighbor not Far From the big hotels and the bustling city center of you love genuine French pastries..baso is the best we’ve found in rwanda and even rivals great French and NY artisan bakeries. Hats off to the pastry chefs !

This was my favorite place to work while I was visiting Kigali! The pastries were amazing! But get there early or they will be sold out of all the best ones! It’s a great place to go work alone or meet friends for lunch. I felt like a long-time regular after just a few days. The view is stunning and you can even sit outside during the rain because the patio has a nice cover

Nice quiet location (apart from on my visit today, a construction crew were demolishing an adjacent building and making a helluva noise! Hopefully they will be finished soon.), with shaded outdoor seating available for customers. A nice selection of pastries and also food items like sandwiches, omlettes etc are available. Friendly service. A great place for an afternoon tea and they have my favourite, Earl Grey. I recommend the chocolate tart or the strawberry tart - truly delicious!

A quiet spot tucked away in the center of Kigali which is a great place to grab coffee, a light lunch or dessert. The burgers and sandwiches are tasty and affordably priced. Sitting at a table outside is highly recommended to soak up some sun and enjoy the panoramic view of the city.

Best pastries in town! So, so good! What a pleasure finding this little spot. And with really great views of Kigali. Make a plan to pop in soon!

Literally the best croissant I ever ate. Better than petite province in the states. Just delightful. I will be back and they don’t gouge on price, like the hotels. Food is expensive in Kigali, not here.

The croissant and apple turnover were the best I’ve ever had. Service was really quick and it was quiet on a Sunday morning with plenty of outside seating. There’s an amazing view and this is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat and relax for a bit.
