San Francisco Bay Area Restaurant and Bar Closures to Know in May 2025 | Eater SF

"The pandemic boomtown pop-up Basuku is winding down its Bay Area pop-up operations, ending deliveries of its aromatic and wonderfully rich cheesecakes as owner Charles Chen told the San Francisco Chronicle he will be relocating to Asia for the foreseeable future; the next month of deliveries to his usual drop-off points will be the last." - Paolo Bicchieri

You will find this bakery/cafe right inside Mega Mart, a Korean grocery store. I found the selection of pastries and cakes to be limited, compared to similar places nearby. However, what they do have taste great. Also, they are significantly cheaper. I bought two of my favorite pastries for only $4, which the cost would nearly double at other bakeries. I also love the fact that they provided samples for customers to try.

It's a chocolate lover's paradise! I liked blueberry chocolate, chocolate cream puff and Dubai chocolate was my favorite. The chocolate puffs are buttery pastry filled with rich creamy chocolate. This bakery is a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth.

This bakery is located inside Mega Mart. I like Korean bakery because it’s not too greasy and not super sweet. Japanese cheese cake was $4 and other bread is combination of red and green bean bread. Basically one side is red bean filling and other side is green bean filling. I stop by this bakery every time I visit Duluth. Every week they have some type of special. This week roll cakes are on sale for $13.

Basque Bakery is located inside Mega Mart in what used to be Gwinnett Place Mall. To the left of the entrance of Mega Mart is Basque Korean Bakery. This cafe offers plenty of Korean pastries, coffee, & tea. There’s plenty of seatings. I bought a sponge cake on sale for less than $2 & $1 cold brew at Mega Mart after a 7 mile run in the middle of the storm. Refueled about 700 calories. The bakery is great & Mega Mart is a farmers market with fresh international produce otherwise not sold at local grocery stores.

This was my first visit to this bakery, which used to be a White Windmill bakery located within Mega Mart. The space is now more spacious than before. However, while the prices are reasonable, the taste of the bakery items doesn't stand out as exceptional compared to other bakeries in town. We decided to stop by for some coffee and a chat after having lunch at a nearby Korean restaurant.

I always come here for the rice toast loaf and rice milk toast loaf. I heard that they stop making the rice toast bread soon. Please don’t stop making them ㅡ many customers come here just for these!

Basquia Bakery is a Korean bakery tucked inside Mega Mart. They've got this sale going on-Soboro for $1.50 each, so I obviously stocked up on a few. Now, if you're a coffee aficionado, you'll appreciate that they use Illy coffee. I swing by occasionally for their iced americano; it's both cheaper and tastier than what you'll find at most other nearby coffee shops. The bakery is spacious as well. I haven't ventured into their cake section yet, but they do look pretty tempting from a distance.

I purchased a sponge cake from Basquia Bakery, and opened it the next morning to find numerous blue spots throughout the cake that looked like mold. I had already eaten some before noticing, and my pregnant wife almost had some as well. I reached out to customer service for clarification but haven't heard back. This is very concerning, especially when it comes to food safety. I won’t be returning unless this issue is properly addressed.
