A ‘Beetlejuice’ Pop-up Bar Is Coming to Chicago | Eater Chicago

"A throwback pop-culture pop-up will take over the venue this fall with a Beetlejuice-themed experience based on Tim Burton’s 1988 film, featuring themed cocktails, scavenger hunts, live entertainment and other immersive activities; the limited engagement runs from October 17 through November 1 and tickets and more information are available on the event website." - Daniel Gerzina

I recently attended the NYE celebration . I personal enjoy this spade when it’s staffed right & the certain groups who dj such as Afro fusion or Reggae Sundays . I feel the bathrooms can be upgraded and less loitering in there during parties they are small. The party was ok I feel the moving of the DJs to the back was not a good choice . Also the upstairs level could have been open similar to prior years for more space. The bar was more with variety past years with the open bar package . Some people are just wakes back and forth . No one wants to feel cramped enjoying a night out. We should have had two floors with music & more dedication to the esthetic . The first year I can the drink selection wasn’t limited . It felt good to have options To enjoy . The staff can be more hospitable . I feel there were sound issues and rushed sets some parts of the night. Allocate a place for people who buy sections but this should not take away from everyone else’s time enjoying . Some of the security are polite however the caliber of people who come in I feel gets a pass even with dress code. The first year I came the space was set up better and breathable.

Went here for Reggae Sunday. The music was bangin', the drinks were a bit expensive, but the overall atmosphere was off the chain. We really enjoyed ourselves and had a wonderful time. Would definitely recommend!

Google
Such a fun place, very safe as far as Covid19 precautions. They disinfect between customers and do temperature checks. The drinks are amazing and the Rabbit Hole experience was so much fun! The decorations were so fun, cocktails were fun, and entertainment top notch. I would recommend this event and location.

I came in town for the Taste of Chicago and was looking for some good reggae music. I heard about Bassline from a woman when I was leaving Wild Hare. We had a BLAST. When I come back to Chicago I will be right back at this place. We danced all night.

Google
Great place just no where to park without paying and they will tow your car quick and fast

Google
I was an all white party. Drinks were a bit pricey like they were making prices as you ordered. The place was great. Spacious , clean restrooms and the DJ this night was lit. Really enjoyed myself

Yelp
I love that the space is multiple rooms, levels and various bars. I have only been here for an event so cannot base the service or DJs since that is the promoters choices. Didn't order food but the drinks were strong. I would only come depending on the event. Cash is preferred for that event. Security was there.

Yelp
I've been here a few times. Always a good time when my friends and I come here. We came here for a bar crawl. Delicious drinks, great music.

Yelp
BASSLINE lounge & cocktail bar on Michigan Ave. in Chicago, Illinois is a nice establishment to visit. I attended a private event that entail a live jazz band and featured poetry reading from two local artists. I enjoyed the Moscow mule drinks that did not lack on alcohol. The place is nicely lit, spacious, well-decorated, and the restroom was clean. There is paid secured parking onside of the building, and IDs are checked and scanned at the door. The crowd is mature, and the dress code is casual.

Yelp
The Rum Punch Brunch is top tier. Arrive abt 30 Mins after the start time is perfect for the 1 hr server delay. Great food and drinks. Great vibes. Visiting from Detroit will Def be back

Yelp
Popular venue for events. Big space with bar and stage. Very large and nice bathrooms! Street parking only so that can be a little hassle sometimes. I was here for an event during my visit to Chicago to spend time with my girlfriends. We came to an event with vending boots inside the space. Lots of cool vendors, cultural and interesting. People were super friendly. The DJ present played great music. I had a great time. The space is perfect for any event.

Yelp
Went to baseline for a spoken word event. The event was awesome. Service was great. I like the bartenders there! The art and deco is beautiful! Drinks could be better. But overall a fun night out!

Yelp
We went for the Beetlejuice PopUp and I'd say, save your money and go elsewhere. The ticket price did not include drinks, but the other items it supposedly included were half-hearted attempts at best. On the night we attended (Saturday), the man at the door didn't scan or swipe our tickets. We had enlarged just the QR code on our phones and frankly it could have been anything as he barely looked at it. Inside the bar was serving thematic drinks and there were some decorations as well as an excellent DJ. Near the DJ stage was an unmanned photo booth small set-up, but because people were doing it themselves they were taking tons of shots and the line was both long and in the middle of the dance floor. Upstairs was a more complete "set" with Beetlejuice pop-up staging, but not a single person up there and certainly no sign of contests, prizes or scavenger hunts. The only interesting thing was there was a bathroom without a line. All these things were sort of 'eh,' but the real issue came later in the night. Our second round of drinks (exactly the same order as the first) was $40 vs $25. After leaving the crowded bar, the person who paid for the second round realized she must have been scammed for 3 drinks - one of which was a Bud Light - for it to be $40. Not cool by the bartender at all. The other kicker was we heard last call at 9:15pm: WHAT? On a Saturday night? And the lights went up 15 minutes later when they kicked us all out for a private party. Who ends a bar / dance spot at 9:30pm on a Saturday night? Shame on us for paying nearly $30 per person for what amounts to an entry/cover charge for a bar where we spent 1.5hrs total. Don't bother!

Yelp
Everything about Bassline screams elegance. The dance floor is quite spacious and the drinks are a bit pricey yet well worth it. This is a space that allows you to have an enjoyable experience and be grown and sexy! I would definitely go back here for a night out, it's the ideal party spot!

Yelp
As a person who loves to have a great experience at bars and even pop-ups, this one was by far the worst. A group and I got tickets for the BeetleJuice popup at Bassline. Our tickets were $28 per person (didn't include drinks or anything special). When we walked through the door, the bouncer was watching a basketball game on his iPhone and just barely took a glance at our tickets while a group of people who didn't know what was going on that night just casually walked in for free. The tickets included a "walk-thru" where the staff working it did not know what to do or how to direct the crowd. They let whomever walk through back and forth and didn't seem to care (as one of them was on their phone the whole time). The DJ was decent until too many people were on stage with him snapchatting and unplugged the set leaving everyone yelling at why the music stopped. Probably will never step foot back into this place ever again. The staff was completely unequipped and the popup was too hyped up for venue so small and unprofessional.

Yelp
my first time going and attended the event on today the energy was kind of low in addition everyone was on there phones they had a pop up event in addition, everyone was standoffish yet looked mad .

Yelp
Two stars for the lady security guard and zero to the Owner. Who said I couldn't put my coat down at this bench or with the DJ due to a fire hazard even though the venue was empty. Charged $3 for a mask when no one was wearing one. Never coming back to this crap. Parking also sucks in this area.

Yelp
The establishment was nice and bartenders were great! However, they need to do better with security. We paid for a section and upon arrival were told we had to pay. I asked security "why do we have to pay if we have a section?" His immediate response was (He raised his hand ) " I don't talk to intoxicated people." Keep in mind, I did not have a drink until we got inside. He was extremely rude! I will not return due to my experience with the security guard.

Yelp
What a horrible establishment. The epitome of unprofessional. The owner has no regard for human life and the bouncers are no better. Do not waste your time or money. This establishment should be closed. There are better bars and lounges in Wrigley or Logan Square where they don't have a mandatory coat check or beat up women. Very disappointed in this place as I've been spending money and supporting this establishment for over 3 yrs. They do not value your dollar so don't even waste your time. Again you will be treated way better the further north you travel. I wish 0 stars was an option.

Yelp
So this place put out like they were having a Beetle juice pop up bar...super excited friends and I went! Thinking ok we are going to Beetlegeuse Movie pop up bar...so not the case!!!! This was the wackest place everrr! Misrepresented it completely. Nothing Beetleguise besides damn movie playing behind bar. No photo ops...nothing! Hate the fact I wasted my money at all here. Hope someone reads this and saves their money before coming to this place.

Yelp
My company holiday party was held at BassLine last month and I have to tell you, we all had a really good time. I had never been to Bassline and was kinda questioning the choice by my employer but not anymore. The party was held on the 3rd floor of the venue. The drinks were amazing and the music was great! I feel like the 2 bartenders working were definitely not expecting such a large crowd but they did keep up and the drinks were perfect, strong and not watered down. The DJ definitely catered to what the majority of the group was into, mostly hip hop and rap. I was really impressed.

Jahaan K.

Yelp
This is the worst place I've ever experienced on a business level. I came here for a private event and purchased a $12 drink and when I left, I checked my bank account and was charged $75 instead. I contacted the event host and she went to inquire on my behalf since she was still there. She was told that was a $75 "authorization fee" that will be reimbursed in the next 24 hours. Please keep in mind I was not told that prior to purchasing a drink. Also! I was informed that another friend of mine was asked by the bartender if he could buy some Xanax from him (No, my friend does not sell drugs and was offended by the question). This policy is a mess and this place needs to be stopped. I'm sure I'm not going to get reimbursed since tomorrow is Sunday, but I will keep an eye out on Monday. Either way, the "unknown rule" is trash and very scam-ish.

Troy D.

Yelp
The location was really nice and the venue was great however the bartender Tooty or tutu from englewood was trash! Worst service ever and tried to steal money by over charging my open tab. Then argued after I told her to get manager and check the tapes because nobody was going to that bar ordering those nasty drinks! Just rude service

Sydni S.

Yelp
Very nice place. My sisters birthday party was outstanding ! Drinks were also great! Everyone had a great time and didn't make a big deal about certain mishaps about the food not being so good and the valley parking was very unprofessional. My friend saw someone searching through my moms car. Once I asked the valley guy to bring out my mothers car, he couldn't find the keys and asked me to help him look for them. Finally he found them after going back and forward looking for them. Luckily nothing was taken out of my mom car and we was able to find the keys as well.

Yelp
Do not ever attend this God forsaken establishment. I was violated by a security guard here on the last Sunday of the year and the owner is acting as if he could careless. I attended Bassline to celebrate the end of 2019 and while here I noticed one of the security guards, Jermaine, was drinking while on the job and I was very troubled by what I saw. Later on that evening while resting my elbows against the bar facing the crowd, this same security guard walked directly up to me and grabbed my butt with all of his force. I immediately pushed him off riddling him with profanity and one of the other patrons urged me to tell another security guard and the owner as well. After telling the owner, this clown had the audacity to ask me "if I was sure?" I called the following day because I wanted to make sure that corrective actions were taken as well as come back into the establishment to file a written report and ensure that Jermaine was in fact fired, when I could actually press charges against him individually and the establishment as well for sexual harassment. The owner then told me to write an email detailing the event, (after already explaining it to him fully the night of), which I did; but I also told him that I would be coming back to write a hand written incident report after the holiday. After asking what time would be best to arrive, I was told by the owner that he lives nearby and to just call when close. After driving over an hour to get there, the owner then proceeded to ignore two phone calls and respond to a text message saying "sorry, we're closed until Saturday" tuh! The disrespect and disregard for human dignity and the so-called safety of their patrons is egregious and everyone should stay away, women especially!! Negative star ratings would have been more accurate. Will never be back, but charges may still be filed. Time will tell and God will punish all of them, I'm sure.

Yelp
I usually don't do this but their actions are unacceptable. On Tuesday Oct. 22nd, my friends and I attended Bassline for the beetlejuice pop-up bar. Was it worth 17$? Not at all, decor was minimum to nothing but some random props and things that said beetlejuice. They did have a little photo booth that was fun and the drinks were not that bad as well however in the midst of buying my friends drink i misplaced by debit card. Now the next day when I had an opportunity I tried calling but it was too late and I couldn't leave a message because the mailbox was full. Someone named Shawn that's connected to this number for the business texted me saying they were closed. I explained my situation and he informed me that he would be there the next day and would text me. By 4:30 pm I still didn't receive a text so I texted back asking about the status of my card to which he replied he was not at work. By this time it's crucial and need to know my next step if its not there to which I explained to him and his response was not caring or professional at all. He said he wasn't there until 9pm but I could go and pass by if I want. I could but this place is not just down the block its miles away from me, not an easy drive at all. I explained that to him and told him if it is there I will make the drive but if its not I would be wasting gas and time going for no reason. Something so simple that takes a second and I know first hand because I've worked in hospitality for 5 years. Is there no other employee but him that works there? Do we not have phones to call and just verify if its there or not? Seriously, how unprofessional and unacceptable that is to customers who have invested in attending your establishment and putting our hard earn money to your business. He brushed everything off and said " I will be there at 9", I told him OK... I look forward to a response by then but guess what? No response, no call back just nothing. I would give it 0 stars for how rude and unprofessional this place is...do not waste your time and money here.
