I walked up to the window of Batches on their opening day, overcome with excitement. Finally, a fresh bagel spot in the neighborhood. But would my eagerness set me up for disappointment? It was time to find out…
The staff at Batches greeted me with beaming smiles and infectious enthusiasm, instantly dispelling any notion of it being a typical Bagel shop experience with a terse ordering interaction. Their warm welcome set the stage for what was about to be a delightful culinary adventure.
Now, let's talk about the main event: the bagels. Batches has somehow cracked the code to the perfect bagel - a delightful crunch on the outside, giving way to a cloud-soft, chewy interior. It's like biting into a little piece of carb heaven! They seem to have a very healthy variety of flavors (see picture), but I went with my favorite flavor (Everything) and decided to splurge on the Green Goddess Shmear.
What came out when they called my name was not what I expected, the toppings didn’t look like that of your typical everything bagel, but had a much more artisan and elevated feel… It’s like the poppy seeds and onions were just picked up at the Clement Street Farmers Market, but how would it taste? I fear saying this (as it could draw larger crowds), but it was the best everything bagel I’ve ever had. This bagel strayed away from the norm and definitely paid off.
It’s clear Batches is not messing around and when I go there, I know I’m getting quality It's a testament to quality, passion, and the power of a good bagel to bring a community together. My high expectations were not only met but surpassed. Batches, you have officially won over this bagel enthusiast!
