Bates Bar & Grill

Food took 2 hrs to get to our table. Although the burger meat was good the rest was below average at best. The server was very kind and apologized numerous times. We were offered free drinks for the adults with us but we ended up turning it down to make up for lost drive time.

Was in the area and decided to stop in for lunch. The food and the service were very good. The Buffalo chicken wontons are so good. I ate all 6 of them with my fish sandwich and a side of roasted garlic parmesan broccoli. Can't wait to go back again when their summer menu comes out.

This was our first time here as we were looking for a replacement for 4th and Cherry which sadly closed. The food here is okay. The fries were good. I had bone in wings which weren’t very crispy and kinda tough as a result. $15 for ten wings and it doesn’t come with fries or anything you have to order those separately. The lobster ragoons were yummy. My fiancé got a burger and said it was okay, better than Mad Hatter but not the best burger ever. My son had a cheese pizza and enjoyed it. Drinks ranged in price from $10-$14 but were overall kinda weak for the price, which was not listed on the menu so we had a surprise when we got the check. The music was way too loud. I get it’s a sports bar, which is fine, but your couldn’t even talk over the noise. I felt the noise level was in contrast with the decor. It comes off more upscale but then isn’t and given more dive bar vibes. Rated a 3 because it was just okay. We might go back and try some other items.

What can I say!!! Ms Jill is the best bartender!! /server when needed. The other servers made sure my family and I had everything we needed ,and it was multiple servers that kept checking in on us.Love,love,love the warm atmosphere ,however the food is Amazing!!! I’m say we’ve visited 2 times !! had complete different meal and man ! its a 2 out of 2 !! It just got better and better and we’ll be back AGAIN!!! I’ll be back this week for sure.

Went there last night with my wife recommended by your friend. Upon arrival we quickly got greeted by Nicole and she sat us down and let me tell you she’s one of the nicest waitress we’ve had in a long time. I got the heart attack burger. That burger was so good. I almost got a heart attack.🤣 My wife ordered BLT avocado as well. She said she loved it. I give this place a 10 out of 10. It’s big very clean comfortable food is great and Nicole was awesome. I highly recommend it to anyone.💯

Great new addition to the Weymouth Landing/East Braintree area. The menu is definitely varied, with a vast selection of sandwiches, entrees, alcoholic beverages, and more. Service was quick and friendly as well. For a Thursday night it seemed to be relatively busy. The only downside is the relative lack of easy parking nearby

Extremely disappointing experience. We waited over 1.5 hours for our food with zero communication from the staff. When we asked for updates, we were met with vague answers and no sense of urgency or apology. The service was terrible—unorganized and inattentive. By the time the food finally arrived, any enjoyment was already ruined. Definitely would not recommend or return.

Amazing bar, great atmosphere and amazing and friendly bartenders. I love the chicken wings and burger here. I had the heart attack burger and it goes very well with their many selections of beer (I had the wormtail IPA).

Great food, TVs and Bar. Prices are reasonable. Bartender made a great martini and Dark n Stormy. Looked like a good beer and wine selection. Chicken wings were perfectly cooked and sauce was just right amount. Teriyaki and Golden Maple (I think?). The food others ordered looked like great bar food and presentation. Plenty of TVs to watch from every angle

Warning: If you go on a Friday night as a party of 2 and all they have are large tables they will not seat you. Apparently keeping the table empty "in case" a large party shows up is more valuable to them than paying customers.

Went back to Bates because I couldn't get that Strawberry Pecan salad out of my head and I was willing to chance another burnt protein to have it! This time I added grilled chicken and it was perfect! Sliced and laid across the top of a delicious salad, not overcooked at all. I don't care for a vinaigrette so subbed a buttermilk ranch- yummy. Last time when the salad proteins were burned and inedible, I think I happened to order on the day the fill-in chef was cooking because this order was delicious! Added a Chicken, Broccoli & Ziti to the order- also delicious. I think it had a lot of mozzarella melted into the huge portion, because there was a whole lot of stringy cheese happening! The serving was definitely good for dinner and some leftover for next day lunch. I like to be surprised with an unexpectedly good menu choice- don't we all? - and this fit the bill. The bar was busy, lots of chatter above the tv's and the wait staff was friendly and engaging. Altogether a great place to grab dinner in the Landing, or stop by for a drink and some company. Go, you'll be surprised how much you'll enjoy it!

This place will always be a go-to at any time of day. The owners Liz and Bobby are some of the nicest and down to earth people. We've eaten our way through almost the entire menu over the years and nothing has disappointed. I love their Greek pita with grilled chicken but you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. The homemade Greek dressing is perfectly balanced. They know their food and it shows. The atmosphere is always welcoming as well.

Fire cracker sandwich (no veggies) put me in an auntie ann wetzel pretzel. I was perplexed. Chic fil a was shaking as I endured a crunchy yet succulent bite of all white meat with a curious George ish rain coat of Buffalo and ranch. A glistening potato bun stood little chance I fear, as each bite was a step into a world unknown. That was special.

Nice place. Friendly staff. I went during off hours. They have some good vegetarian options. Enjoyed the Strawberry Pecan salad. Also enjoyed the honey roasted brussels sprouts.

Bates is low key gas. Most things absolutely slap. Not please about the removal of the lobster BLT but their chicken game is on point.

Boneless mango habanero wings are delightful. Atmosphere is fun and the Greek pasta salad is always delicious.

Went 11/25/23 for early dinner. Seated promptly. Ordered the Brookside burger which was delicious and cooked exactly as requested. The burger had feta cheese and caramelized onions. I had to have on a gluten free bun and that was perfect (usually gluten free buns not that great). No dedicated fryer, so got a garden salad which was quite large and great. My husband got a grilled chicken Caesar wrap with sweet potato fries. He said it was great! Lots of craft beers. I ordered the house red sangria and was delicious. Waitress was attentive and food came out hot. Highly recommend.

Food was amazing, I ordered the fish and chips and it was absolutely fantastic I will be trying other items on the menu

Bad enough experience to post first review of a restaurant ever. Arrive with grandmother, wife and 2 teenage daughters for Sunday lunch. Sat at front windows since it was sunny and high tops were open. It's 63 degrees out, wind blowing napkins off tables, so I closed the window at our table and one next to us. 10 people total between bar and tables - no one sitting at any of the other front tables. Bartender came over to open windows again, because he was told they had to stay open, so I said no and asked whoever ordered him to come over. Manager shows up 10 minutes later, stands at the head of the table and says "can I help you?" I said it's freezing, we're not opening the windows again. His response was other customers wanted them open, if we didn't like it we could sit elsewhere. I asked who wanted them open, since no one else was in the area and he told my family we could sit somewhere else or leave. By the time the waitress came over to take our credit card for our drinks, manager was nowhere to be seen again. Whole family left, and worst customer experience I've seen in hospitality. Apparently not the first, considering how many of his employees apologized on his behalf as we left. Thanks for such a bad experience I needed to write this. Can assure you, we'll never return, and as a braintree resident. I will pass this along to every one of our friends.

Good food but place can get busy so seating can be limited. The hours seem to fluctuate a little too much for me to go consistently but overall it has been a good experience.

When they're good they're great. But it's hit or miss. Sometimes shit sometimes not so shit.

Place always hits. Grecian pizza is bomb, and the sidewinder fries of any variety (pulled pork, clam chowder, chili, or buffalo chicken) are amazing. Friendly front of house and quality food. 5 stars.

A nice place to eat on the main part of town. I was introduced to this restaurant by a local resident who brought a number of us there for a meeting. The food was outstanding. I have had, chili, coconut shrimp, and egg rolls. My son loves the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. The restaurant is modern and well decorated. I have always been there between 2 and 4 PM when the inner area is not crowded; however, I hear it can be "hopping " at night. The bathrooms are modern and clean. Parking is available on the street in front and the side street. The staff is cordial. On my last visit the owner was there and was very nice. The staff have been very open as to their respect for his cooking skills. We shall return !

My husband and I went there a few days ago. It was early so wasn't surprised that there were only a few patrons in the place. When we sat down we were handed two dirty menus and the drink mini had food stick ti it. We both looked at each other and decided if menus can't even be clean how clean was the kitchen area. Sorry to say we walked out.

This place is a great addition to the Landing! I've been here several times and never leave disappointed. I've had the buffalo chicken wontons, burgers, fish & chips, garden salad, cheesesteak egg rolls, buttermilk chicken sandwich, etc. I love their huge and delicious onion rings. My only complaints would be my burgers get over-cooked for medium-rare (as most places do) and they do not give you enough ketchup packets for your fries. We had to keep asking the server for more and even then, she would only bring a few. At one point, my friend just asked her to put as many ketchup packets as she could in her hands and bring them to our table. Overall that doesn't bother me and the food is still good quality. I would recommend giving this place a try!

Always enjoyable time at bates. Food and service are great, the bar is massive and good option for btree/weymo/quincy

I went there for Valentine's Dinner with my daughter, her boyfriend and my fiance. The food we ordered was awesome and our server was the nicest. Cant wait to go back!!

We love Bate's and go all the time! Great tenders, and good spot to watch games. The only thing preventing me from giving 5 stars is the fact that they don't have classic tortilla chip nachos on their menu. Please consider adding these to the menu! Updated: Also, agree with past reviews - ketchup packets have got to go!

the kids' meals portions were smaller than we thought. they were actually kind of sad looking, especially the tenders. the fries stood out more than the tenders. its okay if they only gave us three pieces but at least bigger pieces. they did come with a drink of a choice. the chili was salty. came with pita bread and it was blah. the salmon entree wasnt bad but the rice was a bit soggy. wish the buttermilk chicken had more taste to it. the place was ok.

Great Food and atmosphere Food and Service was excellent. The cheese fries were so awesome. Cheeseburger with French Fries were done to perfection. Pulled pork sandwich was excellent.

Great service from the waitress. Management and the kitchen have a problem though. Got their buff chick fries with mozzarella on the top. Solid meal until about I got half way through and the cheese/fries were stuck to all the tin foil. Asked for a few dollars off my bill for half my meal being stuck/ripped apart for trying to get off the tin foil. Waitress stated the supervisor was able to remove everything off the tin foil but never returned my food and advised they would not provide any refund. Respect the waitress but honestly have never heard a response like that from any restaurant in my life and I really hope the management gets spoken to by the owners of the business because from personal experience this is not how you handle customer service inside a restaurant by any means. I didn't want to not tip the waitress for the great job she did so figured a review would hopefully make a better impact.

Stopped w/friends to see what this place was all about. We were happy to get great service, delicious food, and fun atmosphere. TV's were excellent and service on point. Nice job!

I found this place by accident on Yelp. Being a fan of such places, hubs and I had to check it out. Also, we love the Landing so it was a no-brainer. The atmosphere is quite nice. Industrial meets modern. Draft selection was on-point and we enjoyed a couple of Barrel House Z's "Sunny and 79 ITB". The Fish and Chips was fresh, nicely battered, and HUGE! My grilled chicken caesar wrap was perfect. They charred the chicken and it gave the wrap that little extra something. Paired that with seasoned mashed potatoes that were to die for. I'm Irish, I know potatoes. The service was great, nice big TVs for the Bruins game, everyone was friendly. Oh, and there were two young ladies sitting next to us that had fries with clam chowder on them? Looked delicious and smelled fantastic. One note, to the owners, get that front-desk/hostess off her cell phone! She was curled up in a ball with her face in her screen as we came in and left. THAT is not something patrons want to see. Other than that, welcome back to the Landing!! We'll definitely be back!

Second time in a row we've received a displeasing welcome for showing up around midnight (on the weekend) you'd think the bar tender would want the tips... Also they don't have a menu past 10 o'clock which makes any bar on a main strip relatively useless One star for the male bartenders here

I ordered a fish sandwich with sweet potato fries for take out and everything was delicious . The bun was nicely toasted and fish was fried to a delicate crisp with flaky inside. Fries aslo had a nice crisp and fresh. Will definitely have to try another meal there !

Came to Bates Bar & Grill in Braintree my family is the only black family here and they send my food out burnt and when I tried to return the waitress tells me the manager/owner said they can't take it off the bill I said ok I never heard of that but I don't want it so return it ... the poor waitress comes back with the food boxed up telling me the owner said to bring it back out to me ! The waitress was so uncomfortable and neither she or I can believe this just happened ! the owner comes out non apologetic , arguing with me why he's right! He tried to explain the temperature was well done but why was it burnt ? Salmon and brussel sprouts both burnt !! As a business owner myself I would never treat anyone like this ! They should be embarrassed! He didn't try to make any of it right!

This restaurant is amazing. Thinking about going out to eat? Go to bates. Also would highly recommend the Buffalo wantons and buttermilk chicken sandwich.

The pizza was good. It's a reasonably sized establishment. The only thing is because if it's location parking is not ideal. It's street parking.

I stop in for a beer and fries....simple order...the bartender brings me my fries...no fork..no napkin..no salt..no ketchup..just packets...packets!! When I got tired of eating with my fingers I asked for the check and inquired where are the utensils she became sarcastic...I'm out!!

Threw a surprise party for my friend here last night and they could not have been more accommodating. They reserved the front high tops for us (group of about 20), and I was able to order apps and pizzas beforehand. They brought the food out at all the right times, and we had two waitresses dedicated to just our group for drinks the entire time. Aside from being accommodating for a large group, the food here is really good, and the atmosphere is great! They have windows that open in the nicer weather and tons of TVs for sports fans. Finally, they have a mocktail menu, which I always appreciate since I'm expecting. Overall great spot, highly recommend!

My husband and I use to love coming here. I would get the greek pita with chicken and he gets different things. We came in here a month ago and the service was TERRIBLE. They never came to check on us and or refill drinks and four of them were just sitting in the corner chit chatting. Tonight we decided to try take out from Bates again. I called in two greek chicken pitas. They said 35 mins. My husband got there and waited forever they let him have a beer while he waited for the pick up. He complained about how long it was taking and the guy said it was still coming up. He got the food a HOUR after I called and when he brought it home the french fries were cold and soggy and they didn't add the chicken like I asked. So we have two soggy pitas with no chicken and soggy fries. We called and complained and a female manager yelled at us on the phone. We will never return they obviously do not care about their customers or customer service.

Good place, not crazy expensive. Burger was a little charred which is the way I like it. The spicy slaw was really good and they are not kidding about spicy. Open, not claustrophobic place in my Hometown. Service from attractive Jillian was excellent. Can park on side street close by.

This is a real "place in the neighborhood". The best burger in town can be found here among other favorite menu items. Try to go on a Wednesday night and have the wonderful Marcus serve you at the bar. He is personable and extremely efficient. Our food and drinks arrived in no time at all and he check back frequently to be sure we wanted for nothing. He alone is worth five stars! Great atmosphere with plenty of TVs to watch a game and a friendly crowd to start a conversation. You might even find yourself chatting with one of your neighbors. Easily located right in the heart of Weymouth Landing. Lots of on street parking or walk up one block and park in the Sacred Heart church parking lot and give thanks that you found such a great place in the neighborhood.

Not impressed with the pizza. First, it says "shredded chicken" on the menu and this is definitely cubed. Also soggy and falling apart. Had to bake it more when I got home. Debated giving 3 stars but went with 3 because I was happy with a salad with salmon that I got a while back, coconut shrimp was pretty good, it's a fun atmosphere (sort of a classier dive) and the staff is super nice.

Loudest place i have ever been at to eat. Trying to have a conversation was way too much of an effort during our meal. We were basically yelling to hear each other. 2 different channels on and the TV on what seemed like the highest volume. The fact that this place is so loud is disappointing because our food was delicious. I had the Cuban sandwich and it was one of my favorites that i have had so far. I had the cheese steak rolls also and the siracha ketchup is intense! If you like siracha you will love it! The steak flavoring to me seemd a bit bland. There are many more items on the menu that i really want to try but i don't know if i want to endure the noise and need for yelling. Our server was very nice and polite, we did wait a long time(like 25 minutes AFTER getting our food wrapped up) to get our check though.

Wow. What a absolutely horrible experience. Worst place you will ever go in your life. Went with my girlfriend for a quick bite. She ordered salmon, I had salad. Salmon came out with bottom completely burnt ( see pic attached). Sent it back. Came out raw. Manager finally came over after almost 15 minutes. Leaned on table next to us and said sarcastically "what's the problem". I explained how it came out burnt, his comment was "not burnt, slightly well done". When I called him on how that was not true he put his finger in my face and kicked us out. Food is horrible, staff is horrible. Can't wait till they go out of business and a better place moves in.

Awesome bar. Fun atmosphere and great food and drinks. Cocktail list is really impressive and creative.

The best local spot on the South Shore.....you feel like you are with family the moment you step through the door. The food, ambiance and overall chill vibe makes Bates the spot you want to call your home away from home. Very disappointed with the food and drinks. The inside is a spin-off of the Assembly in Quincy and somewhat noisy Overall. The windows being open most likely gel in the noise level Our server Holly was outstanding , but drinks were not as ordered. Manhattan was warm as well as the Tito martini and pricing was very high Salmon was rare , the hangover burger was outstanding ( but the bun was too sweet) and I he pork baklava was over cooked Th onion rings were over cooked The experience was good , neighbor said that the loaded potato was not worth ordering as well the cheese pizza Great bar, not so good for dinner

Just opened on 2/15 and we visited on 2/16. You might think that being only the 2nd day open there would be issues....there were none. Service and food were both EXCELLENT. We started with the boneless chicken wings...ordered 2 small orders to start and had to order a 3rd because they were so good! Try the Golden honey...yummy! A couple of us had the fried chicken sandwich w/fries. Chicken was crispy, but tender and fries were hot and crispy. 2 others had the steak tips w/mashed and substituted onion rings for the broccoli. I think one of my friends was actually going to lick the plate (there was NOTHING left). I am excited to be within walking distance of Bates Bar and Grill!

Nice bar/ restaurant. Finding parking on Commercial Street can be a challenge. Got take out- burgers (Diablo, Sweet and Sticky) were cooked as requested and the fries were perfectly cooked and hot when I picked up. Will try again.

Looking for a bar with late night food we came to Bates! It was 9:45 and the kitchen closed at 10pm. Hate being the ones who order that late but the bartender was super friendly and told us to get whatever we wanted. Ended up going with the Sweet Chili tenders and they are BOMB!! Sea Dog on tap with a huge wrap around bar and all the outside windows were all open!! We will def be back to check out more from the menu!!!

Great place wonderful food. I felt welcome I brought my two small children. They have tons of TVs for sporting events. I recommend the steak and cheese egg-rolls and the clam chowder . I got the salmon which was delightful and tasty. I got the sangria to drink and it was perfect not too strong. Very clean and the staff is great. Will be back again. Thank you

I had a great meal here with my 10 year old. If you're into sports and pub food you will really like this place. Very solid bar food, wonderful atmosphere and the service was excellent. The space is dominated by a beautiful horse shoe bar with flat screens mounted across the top so you can see pretty much any game you're there for from anywhere in the restaurant. It has a great location on corner with floor to ceiling(ish) windows so it gets great light. The Buffalo wontons were referenced quite a bit in the reviews I read so we went with those and both really liked them (my son is only sort of adventurous and he was a big fan of them). I had the avocado BLT, ingredients were fresh, bread was great and overall very solid item. My son had a cheeseburger and devoured it. Loved the fries too. Definitely recommend stopping in if you're looking for a place to eat in Braintree!

The food is great! I ordered fish and chips with a side of honey bbq wings. The wings had a nice tangy taste. The piece of fish was huge and their tartar sauce tasted great! I will definitely be ordering from here again. Only downside is they do not deliver when you order online!
