Sidle Up to These 15 Swanky Speakeasy Cocktail Bars in Los Angeles

"The very name of this speakeasy calls back to Prohibition, when folks began making their hooch at home. To find Bathtub Gin, enter through an unmarked door on Melrose Avenue and up a carpeted staircase to find a small, cozy space filled with 1920s-style furniture and the bar’s iconic claw-foot bathtub. Along with strong drinks (including seven types of gin and tonics), there is also weekly programming, including burlesque shows, live jazz performances, and more." - Virali_Dave

Vintage Speakeasy Hides Above This Swanky Melrose Coffee Shop in LA - Eater LA

"There’s a new cocktail hideaway for those in the know, located just one story above Los Angeles’s famed Melrose retail strip. The brand new Bathtub Gin, already famous thanks to its New York City outpost, has now arrived on the West Coast with lots of drinks, plush seating, and the kind of hiding-in-plain-sight appeal that works for all the best Prohibition-style bars." - Farley Elliott

NYC’s Bathtub Gin Speakeasy Jumps Coasts and Lands Along Melrose - Eater LA

"Seven-year-old New York City speakeasy Bathtub Gin is coming to Los Angeles, with a hopeful landing sometime before the end of the year. The back room bar will be hidden from sight (just as it is in Manhattan) by an unassuming coffee shop called Stone Street Coffee Company." - Farley Elliott

Good speakeasy bar on Melrose. We had to wait maybe 2 minutes on a Saturday night (close to midnight) which wasn't too bad. The big balcony with big windows made the place airy and it didn't feel claustrophobic like other speakeasies I have been to. The dirty martini I tried was decent and the rest of the group liked their drinks too. A shot of Don Julio 1942 was very pricey but also expected. Will visit again!

1920's vibe speakeasy! Definitely make reservations if you can. They have jazz and burlesque nights so perfect to get a little dressed up yourself and enjoy a night out. It's pretty hidden and you have to knock on an inconspicuous black door to enter. You'll be taken back once you step in to a prohibition era with gin-based cocktails as their specialty! We went here real quick to grab a drink prior to a concert we were attending so we wanted to check it out. We will definitely be heading back to get the full experience!

We had an amazing time at Bathtub Gin in LA! The vibe was moody and dark with incredible drinks. There was also a DJ playing. The drinks were quite delicious as well. I'd never seen a clear margarita before but it was tasty along with the Botanist! We're definitely planning on coming back especially for one of the burlesque nights on Sunday and Tuesday! Make a reservation if you can otherwise take a chance and walk-in!

This is a fantastic speakeasy. Hard to find (it’s an unassuming black door right next door to the neighboring Peruvian restaurant). You knock on that door and they let you in for your reservation. They start you off with a nice amuse bouche (season fruits & brandy drink + popcorn) Now, if you’re a gin fan - these are the most perfectly paired gin and tonics. They have a nice international selection. I quite enjoyed the malfy/Italian G&T it was very citrus forward and perfect for summer. I was also pleasantly surprised by their salmon crudo which is very light and has some green Chile and goes well with most of the drinks. The vibes are very chill. Perfect place to hang when you’re not in a rush / to catch up with an old friend over drinks / light snacks.

Hosted an event here and had an AMAZING time. The drinks were incredible, the server/staff were kind, and the burlesque show (Tuesday) was a perfect mix of intimate and interactive. They have an outdoor balcony that overlooks Melrose with some seating if you want fresh air too. The hosts told us that they have live bands and saxophonists on certain nights of the week so I'll certainly be back. Highly recommend the s'mores - it's a cute little fire where you get to roast your own. My friends LOVED it.

Delightful and fun experience. Very nice ambiance and decor was cute. Loved the jazz and big band music playing. 🎶 Only had drinks and they were all well served and very tasty.

Phenomenal space strongly reminiscent of the Bathtub Gin in NY which I was a big fan of. It’s entrance is easy to walk past on Melrose (just past their Stonestreet Coffee shop) but that’s certainly part of the mystique and allure of a speakeasy. The night we attended had a smattering of celebrities and even an almost unrecognized Bryan Cranston behind the bar bar tending his and Aaron Paul’s new tequila (not kidding). Great new spot that I highly recommend.

Drinks are righteous! This night the DJ had the vibe just right. We will definitely come back and bring friends for some drinks. It’s Definitely a hidden gem 💎. Ladies bring your man or Gentlemen bring your queen here. This area had some fun things to do. Get yourself a Uber and catch a buzz.
