Yelp
From the moment we walked into Batter & Berries, we were greeted with warmth and genuine smiles from the friendly staff. The service was impeccable; attentive without being intrusive. The food was absolutely scrumptious! From the perfectly cooked Salmon Croquettes to the indulgent French toast flight, it was clear that the chefs take great pride in preparing and presenting delicious meals. Batter & Berries is a must-visit. Great service, friendly staff, and incredible food make it a standout destination. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The food was delicious- we ordered the French toast flight and catfish special. Our server was kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. It was a busy Saturday morning so their "join the waitlist" ahead of arrival feature is super helpful. Will definitely be going back.

Yelp
The food was amazing, not just the ingredients but the nuances of seasoning. Your mouth waters as your waiter reads the selections of specials. The staff is friendly and informed and take pride in their work. The owner stopped by the table just to greet you. My friend was celebrating her 74th birthday, the best. Treat yourself, go.

Yelp
The food was delicious! The Service was amazing! The ambiance of the home feeling is what sealed the deal! Thank you for a great meal and time with family!

Yelp
One of the greatest brunch spots i have E.V E.R been to! The food, big should coffee, our amazing server, the hospitality, and overall service as a whole was incredible! It's truly worth the wait and can't wait to visit Chicago again to make my return! - Anthony

Yelp
I recently ordered from Batter & Berries, and overall, it was a positive experience. My order included French toast, eggs, hash browns, and apple-smoked sausage. While the sausage wasn't my favorite, the lemon French toast was phenomenal. It was fresh, perfectly sweet, and had just the right touch of zest. The portion sizes were generous, easily enough to share with someone else, which was a nice bonus. The food arrived warm and in good condition, though I do wish the packaging had been more securely sealed. My only minor complaint is the price. I felt it was a bit high for a delivery order. That said, the quality of the food made up for it, and I'd definitely order again, especially for the lemon French toast. If you're in the mood for indulgent and creative breakfast dishes, Batter & Berries is worth a try!

Yelp
There's often a wait, and if you're not there when they call you, you get a text that you've been taken off the waitlist and they've moved on, so you gotta move fast (we had found a parking spot so we're waiting in our car RIGHT in front of B&B, but most people just wait outside). The last time we were there, the waitlist said 25 minutes so we walked to big shoulders coffee and then I guess were called after only 5 minutes, then got back on the waitlist and waited an hour, so that wasn't great. The food, however - FANTASTIC. Integrating chicken into waffles - ingenious. Everything is delightful, rich, and interesting. It's busy and generally bustling. Sometimes service can be a little slow, especially when it's super busy, but they're helpful, courteous/friendly. There's at least one communal table, but plenty of private ones as well. Brunch for 2 with coffee last time (10/24) was ~$60 with tip. Go forth and enjoy some brunch comfort food.

Yelp
We were able to get seated quickly after walking in to be added to the list. The location is not really big, but they did a good job making it enjoyable for the guests. The staff were kind and constantly came to check in and see how we were doing. I got the chicken and waffle, it was pretty good. My friend got the French toast flight and said it was good, some were just a little too sweet and overwhelming. The menu has a lot of options, definitely would come back to try some other things.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about this place. On one hand the food was good, on the other, the service was lacking. We joined the waitlist via yelp and it gave us an estimated time to be seated. We got there right in the middle of that timed slot & the hostess said that she checked us in, I didn't really know what that meant at the time. But essentially, we ended up waiting another 20 minutes outside. Once we got inside, we got a table but we were told we couldn't sit at it until it was cleared off. No problem. Another 5 minutes. Then our waiter comes to clear the table so we thought we could sit. We were told by the hostess to stand up and leave the table because she didn't give it to us yet (despite it being cleared off already). Another 2-3 minutes of standing awkwardly in the little front section of the restaurant. She finally allows us to sit and the waiter comes over and it's so loud. Now, our waiter was great. He gave us his recommendations and the specials. It was just very loud in this tiny place. Something he didn't do was say the prices of the specials. **rookie mistake on my end for not asking, I'm aware** Ok. So the food. It was good. French toast was amazing for classic, basic French toast. The bff chicken sandwich tasted so similar to Chick-fil-A. The brisket sandwich was super super burnt on the ends and very dry. The seafood benny was good but highly overpriced imo. Something I didn't know was that they charge for every extra condiment. I just wasn't expecting it so now y'all know. Good. But not worth the hassle.

Yelp
**Yelp Review for Batter & Berries (Lincoln Park)** 4/5 We visited the Lincoln Park location of Batter & Berries and were seated right away, which was a great start! We had an idea of what we wanted, but our server mentioned a few specials, and we decided to try the crabcakes. The food was pretty good overall, and we were happy with the flavors and presentation. The only downside was that our server never asked if we wanted anything to drink, so we ended up just having water with our breakfast. It would've been nice to pair the meal with something more. Despite that small hiccup, I'd definitely visit again in the future!

Yelp
This was one of the best French toast samplers I've ever had. Also, I never take French toast home because I feel like it doesn't taste the same reheated, but these held up and were just as delicious as leftovers. The restaurant is small, cozy, and the staff is friendly and attentive. It's also BYOB- who doesn't like that?
google avatar

Yelp
Very lively and energetic atmosphere from both the guests and servers alike. From the moment you walk in you realize this place has a very bold personality. Our server Tim was nice and explained the menu and specials knowledgeably and efficiently.

Yelp
Batter and Berries was amazing from the greeting at the door until we left! The service was truly exceptional, the waiter was knowledgeable and so engaging. Management and all staff excellent. But let's get to the food - delicious doesn't seem sufficient to describe all we had. The catfish perfectly seasoned, sweet potato waffle and chicken so flavorful and delish, cheddar hashbrowns yummm, Creole sauce with crawfish and chicken andouille was savory goodness on a biscuit and omelet delicious. The incredible French toast flight has us all trying to figure out which was best when all were sooo delectable! Quality food, exceptional service and good people...a must go to spot in Chicago!

Yelp
Yelp Tip: The only way you can join the waiting list is on Yelp! This helped us out so much, because we joined the waiting list while we were still at home on a Saturday (18th in line), and by the time we got there 30-minutes later we were around 8th in line. When we checked in with the host they offered us the chance to sit down immediately at the community table. If you do not have a reservation the community table is your best bet for getting in quickly. I got the Cluck-N-Gaufre (Goof) a sweet potato waffle, stuffed with bits of fried chicken, topped with a buttermilk herb-fried chicken breast & nutmeg hot sauce. The manager (we assume) checked on us twice and let us know the nutmeg hot sauce is specially made for the Cluck-N-Gaufre and to my surprise I preferred using the hot sauce over the maple syrup it was so fantastic. The hot sauce brought out the flavors of the sweet potato waffle and buttermilk herb-fried chicken. After this experience, I now believe all waffle recipes should use sweet potato, so much more depth! My partner was especially happy because you can pick what kind of protein you want in your breakfast burrito AND if you order coffee you can get some to go! Day made at this cozy brunch place that makes you feel like family.

Yelp
You can't go wrong with anything on the menu here. Be prepared to wait if you come on the weekend - but it is well worth it. They have breakfast and lunch options, as well as daily specials. Our waitress was great too; definitely come check this place out if you havent yet!

Yelp
During our visit to Chicago, we kept hearing about this hidden gem. The food was incredible--better than we could have imagined! We ordered the flight of French toast, which was mouth-watering and didn't even need syrup. It's definitely shareable. We also tried the catfish, and it was seasoned to perfection. I have to mention the excellent customer service; our waiter had an amazing personality, and I loved the riddles he shared. The service was fast once we were seated, although I should note that there is a long wait, as they don't take reservations. The ambiance is lovely and family-oriented.

Yelp
Server: Lexii was absolutely amazing. She helped us pick out meal and it was 100% worth it. Food: French Toast Flight: 9.5/10. Absolutely delicious. I didn't like the strawberry too much. Catfish: 10/10 highly recommended. I don't usually eat catfish for dinner but it was absolutely worth it and delicious. Ambiance: mom and pop shop.

Yelp
I've got two words for you: HOT DAMN! Batter & Berries was one of the best breakfast spots I have ever visited. The service was 5/5, the menu choices were 5/5, and the meals we actually got were 5/5. It is killing me that I waited so long to write this review since the gentleman waiting on us was amazing. He needs to write a book on how to make someone feel like lifelong friends. He gave us brain teasers and trivia questions and walked us through the menu and worked the hell outta the room. I had no idea that a spot in Chicago could get down with some legit soul food; I genuinely felt like I was visiting Louisiana. While I was tempted to get the sweet sounding French Toast flight, I went with the biscuits n' gravy and a side of eggs, topped with manchego....Did I say topped? Nope...they mixed it in for the most decadent, rich eggs I've ever had. I lived in Chicago for grad school and used to go back annually. Needless to say, this spot just got added to the list of places to visit on every visit til the day I die.

Yelp
We were told the wait was 51 minutes, we ended up waiting over 100 minutes. However, the food was delicious and the service was great. Our waiter was very entertaining and attentive. A little crowded but it was a good experience.

Yelp
Visited Batter & Berries as a last minute brunch and it turned out to be the best decision I made all week! It is a hole in the wall with a big taste. Small inside making it feel more like home. I got the special Benedict of the day which came with crispy fried salmon eggs your way and cheesy hash browns. Also ordered the Executive, and the other special of the day which was a luxurious egg white omelet and the SUPER French toast flight! The Benedict was delicious, our server even brought out the spicy sweet homemade hot sauce which added a perfect zing to the dish. Honestly, everything was amazing the steak perfectly cooked and flavorful, omelet filling but light. But the winner is the French toast flight! Every single bite delicious light, fluffy, buttery, sweet, savory. It is perfect for sharing and we ate every crumb. Lastly, I'll give a huge shout out to our server, I believe his name is Tusemi - this man deserves a raise. He made sure my party was taken care of, kept us laughing with jokes and riddles and gave the best menu suggestions. He was so kind and made us feel like the only people in the restaurant. I will never visit Chicago again without stopping here!

Yelp
TL; DR: Go for the French Toast, BYOB, Wait Times If you are only wanting a good breakfast, then this is a great canidate for BYBO. The french toast flight is the way to go here and my advise would be to get the Super Flight, so you can try the special. A side of bacon is always the correct thing to order too. Also, beware, they do usually have long wait times on the weekend, but there is a coffee shop nearby that you can dip into when you are waiting.

Yelp
Visiting Chicago for a weekend in came here based on a friend's recommendation. I'm glad we came, because everything was amazing. This Black owned establishment gave everything it was supposed to give. Our server Lexii was wonderful. She made the recommendation to order the catfish for the breakfast special. I don't really eat catfish much, but it was absolutely amazing and so flavorful. I'd come back here just to order the same meal. The sides including the cheesy hash browns and my eggs were also flavorful. 10/10.

Yelp
It has been a while since I've been here, so I decided to come back for breakfast. It was good to see Tim one of the servers there. Very friendly and he knows everyone. The place wasn't crowded for a Wednesday morning. I got a table upfront and I was fine with that. Timothy was my server. Very friendly. I order strawberries French Toast, Bacon, and Apple Juice. Took a while to get my order which was fine, I wasn't in any hurry. The food was good. The Strawberries French Toast was warm, and the bacon could have been a little warm but it was still good. The customers were diverse. People who live in the neighborhood and people traveling from the south side. The hostess was nice. Inside the restaurant, the colors are purple and yellow which I like. Plenty of seats when it's getting busy on the weekend. For sure I will go back and try something else to eat.

Yelp
Loved this place! The service was amazing! Everyone was super helpful making decisions. We had a large table and they were quick and easy! Food was amazing! I had the chicken and sweet potato waffle. Yum! The hot sauce isn't that spicy and was kinda sweet. Good vibe.

Yelp
Food... Amazing... Service... amazing.... Can't pick out one bad thing to say about this place. It is busy and lively here, so be prepared for a fun atmosphere. Everyone at the table enjoyed every bite of their food. The brisket hash seasoning was perfect and a must get. I would also recommend the French toast flight. Our server was friendly and helpful, along with the staff surrounding her. If you come to Chicago, you must visit this place and get breakfast. You will not be disappointed in any way.

Yelp
This place was recommended to me numerous times so I decided to try it out and I'm very glad that I did! The atmosphere is great, good music, excellent service, and most importantly, delicious food!! I had to get the French toast flight as it was my first time visiting and each flavor was so distinct and perfectly made! The only downfall is that the flights don't come with sides but honestly, I couldn't even finish it all anyway lol. Very good and very filling! I will certainly go back next time I'm in Chicago to try more items.

Yelp
Me and my wife stumbled upon this restaurant for brunch. We had our stroller with us and they provided us seats to cater to our needs. The service was great. The servers even found time to crack a couple jokes with us. The food was ok. The hash browns were undercooked. The eggs were perfect. I had the French toast flight which is something I would recommend for others. My wife had the chicken and waffles and I thought that her meal was just OK. Overall, I may return for another try but I'm not jumping on joy to return

Yelp
This was amazing! So good that I went twice during my 5 day trip. The first day I went the service and food was amazing and quick. I believe I had the French toast special that was pineapple upside down caramel cake. Absolutely delicious! It was so good I went back a 2nd time on Juneteenth. This time the server did not have a pleasant attitude. Not horrible but definitely not friendly. The wait was also long to be seated but once again the food was good. I highly recommend. Don't let the unpleasant attitude of the 2nd server stop you from this delicious food, just like I didn't let is stop me from a 5 star review.

Yelp
It's been years since I've been to Batter & Berries, but that first time was certainly memorable. I had the Cluck-n-Gaufre. I could not stop talking about that sweet potato waffle with the chicken cooked into it. Absolutely blew my mind! So, when I visited Chicago this time, going to Batter & Berries was a must! They don't take reservations, so you have to put your name down on the waitlist once you arrive. Your entire party does have to be present in order to be seated, so make sure everyone was in place. We went for Sunday brunch after Thanksgiving, so between that and the snow, it wasn't too crowded. We only waited about 15 minutes. We ordered the Cluck-n-Gaufre, Seafood Benny, which came with the cheesy hash browns, French Toast Flight, and scrambled eggs with smoked Gouda. Everything was excellent! That goes for the service as well. Our server, (pronounced To-see-me) was an absolute delight and had a great spirit about him. Batter & Berries has a chill vibe, and provides for a very casual dining experience. Great place to bring the family or for brunch with friends.

Yelp
This would have been 5 stars, except I was right by the kitchen and noticed the men in the kitchen were not wearing a beard net or hair net.... that's a HUGE turnoff for me. I inspected my food prior to eating, and there was nothing 'foreign' in my meal. Now the cooks were wearing a hat
google avatar

Yelp
We were in Chicago for an appointment at a bridal salon for my daughter, and she found this restaurant just while looking for someplace along the way. What a great find! I had the Apple Belgique Waffle, which was absolutely delicious! The others had the French Toast flight, Blueberry Belgique Waffle, and Spinach Omelet, and everyone raved about their dish. The service was great - attentive waitstaff, food came out quickly and hot, and various staff checked in several times to see if anything was needed or just to chat. I loved the artwork on the walls and the colors - such a bright spot to have a meal, in every way. Next trip to Chicago, I would love to return here and try something else - the menu is amazing!

Yelp
This visit was an August of 2022. So I must be fair and say that we need to revisit them. We had heard great things about them so one day that we passed them we decided to stop in on a win. I believe they are known for their French toast and omelets. So that might have been our first mistake in not ordering one of these. We ordered 2 items from the specials of the day. The first was the crab cake Benedict and the other dish was the shrimp fajita. The crab cake Benedict came with no muffin underneath. In fact, there was no bread of any kind. It was just an egg sitting on top of a crab cake. The shrimp fajita was good. However, there was only 2 shrimps in it. They should have called it a fajita with 2 shrimps. There was an over abundance of hash Browns on each dish. Maybe because there wasn't enough of the other ingredients. While the food tasted good, we felt shorthanded. Maybe we should return and try one of their specialties.

Yelp
Love Batter and Berries because proper customer service and tasty food will make for a great time. I joined the wait list on yelp and when I checked in with the host it was about a ten minute wait. After we were seated, we were greeted with water and asked if we would like juice for our champagne. They are a BYOB restaurant. One of the bosses was checking in on every table and even opened our bottle for us. We ordered the french toast flight, creole omlete, and the steak and eggs. Everything was delicious !

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday around 10:30am. I'm glad we're able to put our name on the waitlist because it gets busy after 9am. Got seated and I knew what I wanted. The rib-eye omelette. The steak was perfectly cooked, how I wanted. The hash is really good. My husband got the waffle with chicken. Oh my goodness, their chicken was on point. So was the waffle. I would come back to get the chicken and waffle, no doubt. Or maybe some of their other delicious menu items. P.S. Our server was amazing.

Yelp
We went here on our little foodie tour as first time visitors to Chicago. I'm a huge fan of the quaint eateries and was really excited to try this place. We had a small wait and just walked around the neighborhood until we got the text. Our waitress was nice and made some recommendations as we had a hard time choosing because everything sounded so good! I ended up with the salmon croquette Benny, which was a special. My husband couldn't decide between the Nashville hot chicken and waffle and the seafood frittata so he ordered both. We couldn't finish everything but the food was absolutely delicious! A sweet potato waffle infused with Nashville hot chicken pieces?! So unique and so flavorful. We absolutely enjoyed the diner vibe and casual nature of this place, they don't need to do a whole lot because the food speaks for itself. We will be back when in the area again!

Yelp
A Chicago local told me to skip Batter & Berries, citing it as overrated. They were wrong. I dare to say it's gotten better since the last time I visited pre-COVID. I can't speak to the weekend rush, which I'm sure is hectic. But if you sneak out of "working from home" for brunch on a weekday you'll go back to work happier than ever. There was no wait on a Thursday morning, the service was friendly and attentive, and the food was fantastic. We got the specials: a salmon cake Benedict and a fried catfish. Of course we finished with a French toast sampler which is a must-get. The hype is real, my friends. @alex.eats.365

Yelp
This place was excellent the French toast was the best thing we had, the service was fast and will be back.

Yelp
This spot never misses. Everytime I have friends or family in town or just looking for a good breakfast joint I immediately recommend batter & berries. And it never disappoints! Everyone is always so pleased. On this particular visit I got half strawberry French toast (omg) and half caramel French toast (OMG) and a side of their hash browns (OMGGG). I couldn't believe how fast everything came out and how good it was!!! I will note it's super busy so they try to get you in and out pretty quickly, especially on the weekends, so don't expect to hang and linger too long.

mike n.

Yelp
I don't like this place. Cramped vibe. Order was wrong. Flavors were off. Not worth the wait or hype. IHOP or Waffle House would be better.

Yelp
Black Owned + A BYOB Yes Please ! So this place was completely packed so I recommend joining the waitlist on yelp. The list was closed by the time I decided to join however so we just went and joined on arrival. We waited about 25 minutes for a party of 2 which wasn't bad but you will be waiting outside with no seating in case their is anyone handicap in your party etc. To start we brought a bottle of champange with us and ordered a a pitcher of OJ for it. Next we ordered the "super" french toast flight. It was delicious and definitely worth getting. For my meal I ordered the Brisket hash. The eggs and the potatoes were delicious but the brisket was overcooked. My husband ordered the fajita omelette and his grilled chicken was overcooked as well. This was the only downside. Overall I would still give this place a try.

Alyssia D.

Yelp
Food was so good, I almost cried. Everything came out perfect. The service was impeccable. The wait wasn't terrible. And they were busy because they deserve it. If you're looking for a good and hearty brunch spot, this is your place to go and 100% worth the wait! It's BYOB, but they'll bring you an ice bucket and you can order just juice.
google avatar

Danielle L.

Yelp
The French toast flight was so delicious and fun to try! Our server was also so fun, I think her name on the receipt was Naynay. She absolutely made the visit an awesome one! The place was hot but it was a very hot day and they were very busy. Chicken sandwich was very dry, wouldn't get that again. Fries had really good seasoning but were undercooked.

Yelp
Why is F*I*V*E stars the highest rating I can givvveeee!?!?!? Today was my first time here - friends recommended it and my Uber driver was so excited for me to try it once the location popped up for him to drop me off. I went to the Lincoln Ave location. Ok. #1... the food.... Biscuits and gravy is my favorite but I knew I NEEDED to order some French toast since this is their specialty. I ordered Cluck & Gravy- this chicken gravy isn't anything like I've ever had in my entire life. It was so delicious, it makes NO sense how good these biscuits and gravy are. The meal came with cheesy hashbrowns and eggs. I also ordered 1 slice of the lemon pancakes. Delicious. #2.... The atmosphere. Laid back. BYOB (great idea), good lighting, multiple seating options. Vibrant colors, nice art. I was here around 1pm on a Friday and had a very short wait. #3.... The staff. My waiter, Tim, was attentive and made great recommendations. Explained the specials very well. Helped to suggest what to order (everything looked delectable, I wanted to try it all!) I believe I met the owner, or atleast one of the head chefs- he was VERY personable, had a sense of humor that was easy to connect with, and I appreciated that he took the time to chat with me. All the staff I encountered were pleasant and did not give the impression they were overworked/didnt want to be there. (My only suggestion: the bathroom needs a little TLC- faucet sprayed water everywhere, door and walls were dirty, toilet scrubber in the corner was unsightly- didn't flow with the upkeep of the rest of this location) I came by myself this time, but I'll be back... with my husband... my friends... anyone who will join me.

Yelp
Very busy So get on the wait-list when you arrive. Excellent service. French toast flight $15.25 Super flight +1.50 included the Mango Mojito - this is what they are famous for. If you like sweet, then get this. Each French toast option is so well cooked. The strawberry and blue berry has the perfect sweetness level. Mango Mojito- so good and didn't taste the alcohol. Caramel- the candied walnuts made it taste really good. Lemon- lemon zest was kind of lacking. This was probably the most disappointing option. LA Colome Hash $18- the brisket is cooked very well. The coffee infused sauce was very strong flavor. The hash brown is nice because it's shaved. Sausage Omelette $17.75- cooked well. The gravy is good. But the sausage is sweet which kind of odd. Cluck N Gaufe- taste like pumpkin flavored/waffle. Chicken was extra extra dry. Ice coffee latte- very watered down coffee. disappointing.

Michelle C.

Yelp
We found this place online, stopped in for a quick bite before our flight. It was definitely crowded inside, especially being the weekend before Christmas, but we were seated immediately at the community table. Our waiter was super friendly and had great suggestions for our meal. The food was delicious as well.

Yelp
Food is excellent. Be prepared to wait up to an hour for seating unless carry-out works for you! Hmmm, I was too busy eating to take in the details/ ambiance however, there is an IG selfie photo drop if the mood hits you!

Yelp
The food was amazing and the service was excellent. We were a party of 4 and everyone enjoyed their meal. I wish I could remember our servers name, she was so wonderful! Attentive, informative and very friendly. (In case management sees this, we visited on 11/24 around 10am and sat in the very back near the kitchen. Hold onto this young lady, she is an asset!). We will definitely return the next time we are in this area.
