Yelp
Batter and Berries is an essential and refreshing breakfast/brunch restaurant in the area. As someone who has passed through the area for many years, this place deserves recognition for its menu options. Most locations serving breakfast in the area function as cheap eats with similar boring options. This location served both elevated classics and unique dining choices I can not get at other restaurants close by. After experiencing what this restaurant had to offer, it is safe to say that I will return and recommend it to others.
FOOD:
I was lucky enough to try 3 breakfast items which I found very pleasant. The first option I tasted was the "Cluck-N-(Goof)". This interesting take on the beloved chicken and waffles hit the nail on the head in every way. The sweet potato waffle was the star of the show maintaining a slightly sweet flavor while being mostly savory. The first bite I took widened my eyes and put a surprised grin on my face. The butter provided was their signature "maple butter" which provides an added layer of richness. I really appreciated that the waffle wasn't too sugary and had a depth of flavor. Too often I see places attempt to jazz up this classic dish by adding a barely noticeable element to the waffle but this place did not suffer the same issue.
Next, I had the B&B breakfast wrap which also contributed to my positive experience. The server was kind enough to recommend how to order it and I was more than content with the result. I was told to order it with fried chicken, hot sauce, and gouda cheese, instead of the cheddar it typically comes with. Although I swapped the fried check for chicken sausage as a personal preference. The wrap also contains scrambled eggs and hashbrowns so you will definitely leave full. The wrap was hearty, creamy, and well-seasoned. what made this meal truly special was the hot sauce. MAN WAS IT AMAZING, certainly top 5 best hot sauces I have ever had. It was tangy and flavorful. There was a nutty background flavor that added to the mild heat. It transformed the already good breakfast wrap into a dazzling masterpiece. Adding the sauce in between every other bite made the dish impossible to put down.
Finally, I was fortunate enough to try the French toast flight, which is their most popular item. It contained all flavors of French toast including the flavor of the week which in this case was creme brule. It was truly magnificent to taste the different slices which all had their own designs and flavors. The cooks here care about the theme of each French toast flavor. While other places might use artificial flavoring to a neutral syrup or drizzle some caramel over bread, this place took the food to the next level. There was fresh fruit, distinct jellies or marmalades, and most importantly, distinct tastes between each slice in the flight. I loved the plating on the creme brule slice, but I have to say my favorite in taste has to be the blueberry.
In regards to service, the server was extremely helpful and polite. She provided recommendations for each section of the menu and really made us feel welcome as first-time diners. It was completely packed in the place and she still managed to make sure we were enjoying our experience while juggling other tables' needs. The inside of the restaurant was also very comforting due to the homie vibe of the dining room and the obviously dedicated kitchen staff you can see in the back.
In general, I had a fantastic experience and will be sure to return to try their other waffles and rotating specials. If you live in the area and are tired of the same skillets and pancakes, I highly recommend you come here for some delicious takes on familiar foods.
