"Then we’d walk down Warren Street and check out a few cool stores. Batterby House, a charming kitchen and housewares shop, just expanded." - ByMona Talbott and Kate Arding, as told to Samantha Garbarini

My husband and I had an absolutely phenomenal stay at Batterby House. If you are thinking of visiting Hudson, look no further and take this as your sign to stay at Batterby!! We are SO happy that we found this place and definitely hope to be back. The room was incredibly comfortable and beautiful. The amenities were great - Joe and Courtney really anticipated everything we might need or want during our stay. The records in the room were very well-curated and fun to explore, as was the awesome cookbook collection in the main common room. The "snack bar" was such a nice touch! Joe's breakfasts were incredible. We literally canceled our brunch reservations on the second morning of our stay because we wanted to have Joe's breakfast again instead! Joe was an amazing host. Such a cool guy, fun to talk to and made sure we were completely comfortable throughout our stay. We met Courtney at the Batterby House shop on Allen St. and she was lovely as well (as were all of the home wares and vintage objects at the shop). We had a 10/10 visit and can't say enough positive things about Joe and Batterby House.

We stayed at the Batterby House in mid-October and had an excellent experience. Joe makes fantastic breakfasts, and he and Courtney are very welcoming. The room we stayed in was very comfortable. The house is located in a great spot near town. We hope to visit again some day. PS: If Joe offers to bring chili crisps for your breakfast, I recommend saying yes.

Visit Hudson, NY - any time of the year. Stay at Batterby House whenever you go. Joe and Courtney are welcoming and gracious. Fun and lively. Courtney has a beautiful shop in town for home items (and some delectables for eating!). The B&B hits the highest of the high points: lovely rooms, tasteful amenities, snacks and beverages, books and game, movies (and did I mention the snacks?). Breakfast is indescribable - generous and delicious while seated at a magnificent table. The other guests were interesting and interested. It made for great conversation. Just wish it were a "B&B&L" -- Bed & Breakfast & Lunch!! Because the food was so good!!!!

We had the most awesome weekend at Batterby House and can’t wait to come back! Joe and Courtney took great care of us without being overly intrusive. The house is incredible, with great decor and interesting things to discover. The record collection in each room is bar none. We stayed in room #1 with a large bedroom, comfortable king bed, a separate living room area and modern spa-shower. The breakfast is delicious and filling so don’t bother making brunch rez, you won’t need them. Seriously. Stay here next time you’re in Hudson.

Just wonderful! Had a lovely room; beautiful finishes, good air conditioner and overall quiet despite a great location downtown. The inn was walkable to everything we wanted to see in Hudson, and very easy to get to the train station, waterfront and restaurants on Warren Street. One special call out to the breakfast, which was fabulous and accommodated a food allergy. The value you get for the breakfast alone is phenomenal. Will definitely stay again on my next trip to Hudson!

My wife and I would like to thank Joe and Courtney for an awesome stay! Some may feel that staying in a bed & breakfast post covid would be risky but we felt safe and secure. Joe and Courtney had a few rules, a very clean space, and lots of sanitizer in order to make our stay as safe as possible. We stayed for two nights and the two breakfast meals we had were super delicious and quite filling! They were very informative about the local area of Hudson, NY. Lots of antique shops and small restaurants with outdoor seating. It felt nice to take a walk around the area. We hope to stay here again in the future!

We had the most fantastic stay at Batterby House! We loved every minute of it — the perfect host in Joe, the DELICIOUS breakfast (you’ll only need to figure out dinners while you stay here), huge record selection, special outdoor space in room 5, plants, beautiful decor, special shampoo and conditioner, snacks, new movies…the list goes on and on. We had such an awesome time that we've talked about making this an annual trip. Look no further and make sure to book a stay here! P.S. I just have to mention the Grilled Cheese Eggs Benedict in the written portion of this review — I’m still thinking about how amazing it is, one week later. From the perfectly grilled cheese (with 3 cheeses) to the delicious hollandaise to the heirloom tomato salad…yummm. Joe was also awesome at accommodating picky, vegetarian me.

My fiance and I decided to do a little weekend getaway in Hudson two weekends ago and couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. Joe and Courtney at Batterby House are top notch hosts and made us feel right at home. Every morning we came down to a full breakfast complete with fruits, excellent coffee (can't recall the roaster), blueberry muffins, a superb eggs benedict one day and a creative and delicious egg casserole the other. You can tell they've really thought through every detail in the house. The room was well adorned and the bed was very comfortable. Last but not least, there were scores of complimentary snacks and drinks out in the hallway. It was our first trip to Hudson and there is a ton to offer. Every restaurant, cafe, bar and store had something quirky, unique, and high quality. I'd highly recommend the town to anyone considering a trip. When we come back, we'll be staying at Batterby. Thanks!

Yelp
My husband and I just spent 3 nights at this wonderfully run B&B. Joe and Courtney are top notch hosts serving delicious breakfasts, morning coffee, and an unlimited array of snacks and drinks. We enjoyed the old movie and music theme in this updated prior rectory. After spending the last several years of travel in hotels and Airbnb's, we have come to remember how personal and inviting B&Bs are. This particular one, however, is one of the best. The BB is two blocks from Warren Street for quick access to restaurants and shops. There is also a retail shop on Warren Street where you can spot many of the unique items from the house. The shop is very well curated. We stayed in Room 5 which has a private deck off the room that my husband used every morning and evening. It's the room with the beautifully updated blue bathroom. The only thing missing from the room and the bathroom was brighter light - our eyes no longer perform as well in dim lighting! We spent most of the mornings and afternoons on several hikes throughout the area - all of them peaceful and beautiful. The waterfalls at the end were stunning.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for the night for a little birthday getaway. We loved the location of this place, a short walk to the main drag in Hudson. Tons of parking. It was really comfortable, clean, and homey. We stayed in room 5 I believe. It was a bit smaller than the other rooms but had a really great private outdoor space, which was all ready for us despite it raining the day before. The room also had the most incredible shower, I never wanted to get out. Breakfast the following morning was incredible! We truly did not want to leave. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Cozy, inviting and relaxing. Joe and Courtney were wonderful hosts. Great location about a block from Warren Street and all the restaurants and shops. The breakfasts in the morning were banging yummy. The rooms were quiet, quaint and well appointed. Great bathroom products and the bedding was super. Decor is very music and movie oriented which was also fun. Here's a pic if breakfast bacon grilled cheese topped with eggs Benedict and local tomato salad.

Yelp
Batterby is a wonderful place to relax and get a break from the COVID19 pandemic. Joe is a super friendly host who will make your stay special. The room had a large and super comfy bed. Great decor throughout the B&B. And get ready for breakfast which was absolutely delicious every morning: fluffy buttermilk pancakes, yummy muffins, savory eggs Benedict,...and then there is a small porch which is a nice spot to do nothing or read.

Yelp
My friend and I stayed here for a long weekend. The host was the best! He was very friendly when we arrived. Moreover, he served us home cooked meals every morning. I love how cute and quaint our room was. I reserved this room because it came with the bear feet bathtub. It was sparkling clean when we arrived. I love farmer markets and this b&b was walking distant to one. My favorite activities were checking out the antique shops and eating at the farm to table restaurants.

Yelp
My husband and I decided to stay at the Batterby House for our mini-moon after our wedding and let me tell you - it was the best. decision. ever! Batterby House provided us the most home-away-from-home feeling that we've ever gotten on vacation. Where do we even begin?! Inn owners - Joe & Courtney are exceptionally kind and go out of their way to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Seriously - they may be some of the nicest people we've ever met! Joe's breakfasts are other worldly (we looked forward to our multi-course breakfast each morning!! Seriously, this breakfast is soooooo good). Available at all times, there is a snack corner with any and everything you could ever want at all hours. Plus there's a movie shelf with excellent films and popcorn if you want to spend the night in! We loved the record player and array of records in our room - it was so fun to have new music on each day. Batterby House is perfectly located and a super close walk to Warren Street. In addition to everything that makes this place so great, there is hand sanitizer everywhere & masks required when you're not in your room. They have gone out of their way to make the dining experience as safe as possible. We haven't stop talking about our stay at the Batterby House and that is a testament to Joe and Courtney's kindness and true hospitality.

Yelp
What a gem. My husband and I have been coming to Hudson for a few years but this was our first visit to the Batterby House. Look no further for your home away from home. This is it! From the moment you're met at the front door by Courtney to the breakfast served up by Joe (get ready and be hungry), it's amazing and you'll be full all day. Did I mention the turntables and vinyl collections in every room? We'll be visiting again very soon.

Yelp
Gorgeous gorgeous B&B experience! The BEST breakfast! They put the "B" AND the other "B" in B&B! VERY comfortable rooms with the perfect combination of charming antiques and modern convenience and elegance! Close to all shops and restaurants, and within walking distance to the NY train and Hudson River. Need a movie night in after traveling? You'll find that here too, with a generous free snack bar 24/7! Highly recommend this place! Thank you Joe and Courtney!!!!

Yelp
After reading nearly 80 perfect reviews for The Country Squire on Trip Advisor, my boyfriend and I decided to spend a few days in Hudson, NY. We were deciding between a few upstate New York towns, but thinking that we'd likely have a nice B&B experience if we were to stay at The Country Squire, based on the reviews, we made a reservation. Paul, the owner was quick to respond to our inquiry, and after a couple of email exchanges, we reserved the King Room. We arrived at The Country Squire on a Sunday and Paul greeted us at the time we had planned. He showed us to our room, gave us some information about the surrounding area, and invited us to breakfast the following morning. Our room was spotless. It was neatly and simply decorated. The king bed was very comfortable. The clawfoot tub was the highlight of the room! Breakfast was served in the dining room and it exceeded our expectations. As the reviews predicted, Paul's quiche was to die for. He offered both broccoli and ham quiches. He also put out fresh fruit salad, mixed berries, apple turnovers, yogurt and granola, and various breads. He stayed in the dining room, serving coffee and tea, while chatting with the guests. Paul's friendly and welcoming demeanor made us feel comfortable and at home at The Country Squire. We have already recommended this B&B to family and friends and we hope to return soon!

Yelp
Great B&B in Hudson. The location is perfect - just steps from all that Hudson has to offer. The B&B itself is simultaneously stately and comfortable. The rooms are well appointed and sparking clean. The breakfast was delicious (best coffee in Hudson by far). The proprietor Paul could not have been nicer. Believe all the reviews - the Country Squire is a gem. We look forward to staying with Paul again soon.

Joe M.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I heard about the Country Squire B&B through a friend who absolutely raved about it after visiting a few years back. We booked a room at the last minute for a long (MLK) weekend. We stayed in the Queen room with the patio. As highly recommended as this place came, it still exceeded our expectations. Paul was extremely friendly and professional from the moment we arrived. He gave us great recommendations for restaurants and things to do around town. The room was clean and comfortable with plenty of privacy. They also clean the rooms daily and provide toiletries (even bath salts!). And lest we forget the breakfast. Paul presented a beautiful and delicious spread of foods every morning: multiple pastries, cereals, juices, yogurt, coffee, and even delicious quiche. Plus Paul chatted with everyone during breakfast and was incredibly nice. There is no question that we will be staying here again. The Country Squire alone is probably worth the trip to Hudson.

Yelp
A beautiful old house, tastefully decorated in period style with a clean, comfortable bed and lovely claw-foot bathtub.

Terence D.

Yelp
Our stay at Batterby House far exceeded our expectations. One of the innkeepers, Courtney, was away for the weekend but Joe was a fantastic, friendly, and welcoming host. The house is well decorated with contemporary decor, which makes each area of the house feel cozy and special. Also, the film collection was a real treat, not the mention the interesting collection of vinyls (each room has a record player.) It was really the details that elevate Batterby above other good B&B experiences -- the samples of bath salts from a local apothecary, the thoughtful snack bar spread on the second floor, and even the communal breakfast table was a fun way to start the day (and the meal, cooked individually by Joe, rivals many NYC brunches.) Highly recommend! (And we particularly loved our room, #4. The clawfoot tub is bathroom goals.)

Yelp
My fiancé and I stayed at the Batterby House for a last minute trip to Hudson. Not only were we blown away by the interior design -- vintage, hip, and endlessly interesting -- the service was second to none. We had one of the best breakfasts we can remember, which was graciously tweaked to fit our respective gluten-free and vegetarian dietary restrictions. We enjoyed the spacious rooms, the incredibly comfortable beds, the modern bathrooms, and most especially the record player they had in our room along with a curated smattering of records to enjoy! Our hosts were thoughtful, funny, helpful, and, most importantly, warm. We'll be recommending Batterby House to all of our friends and family and plan on staying there next time we're in Hudson.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Joe and Courtney were great! Upon arrival my boyfriend and I felt immediately comfortable. We really enjoyed the record selection, the very large homemade breakfast spread, and our own personal porch (room no. 5). We can't wait to visit this cute town and b&b again!

Michael G.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at this wonderful bed-and-breakfast this weekend and we could not be happier. Not only are the rooms in the house itself magnificent and perfect in every way but the host Paul was more like a family member who did so many little things to make sure that our check-in was easy and our stay was extremely comfortable. I highly highly recommend staying at this wonderful bed-and-breakfast. Luxurious experience from all the little details like soft plush towels in every room has a clawfoot tub. Nicely decorated and extremely comfortable bed.

Marissa L.

Yelp
My husband and I have been here twice in the past few months and absolutely love it. Joe and Courtney are the most accommodating, friendly, welcome hosts. The space is gorgeous and perfectly-appointed. And the food is to die for. They've thought of everything you might need for a cozy, fun weekend away any time of year.

Candice B.

Yelp
My fiance and I stayed here last weekend, and were very happy with our choice! The owner, Paul, is very friendly and hospitable. He cooked up a fantastic breakfast with an array of muffins and pastries, blueberry cake, freshly-squeezed OJ, fresh fruit, yogurt, sausage and the best french toast I've ever had. Plenty of food and a beautiful display! The location of the B&B itself is very convenient, right off of Warren St. and steps away from all that Hudson has to offer. Would definitely return!

Kelly F.

Yelp
We loved our stay at the Country Squire Bed and Breakfast! Room and bathroom were both very spacious. Especially loved the bathroom with a beautiful claw foot tub. Paul is a great host!

Jennie S.

Yelp
We had a great time at Batterby House. Joe and Courtney are wonderful hosts. Our room (#2) was spacious and the king sized bed was especially comfortable. The effort that was put into the breakfast was extremely apparent, and the results were spectacular. We would strongly recommend Batterby House!

Barbara R R.

Yelp
If anyone gives less then five stars then they must have stayed somewhere else. Two of us went to Hudson because we were looking for an apartment and we didn't want to travel that far from Brooklyn in one day. Paul, the proprietor, makes you feel so welcome. The B&B is spotless. It has a comfortable bed. The stained windows, the decor so fitting. Oh, he cooks up a mean breakfast. I can't say enough good things about it. You will not go wrong if you choose Country Squire.

Molly S.

Yelp
Fantastic room and amazing breakfast in the morning. The snack bar was such a lovely surprise. We will def be back!

Kristin H.

Yelp
LOVE THIS PLACE, LOVE PAUL! We were in town for a big wedding over Labor Day weekend and many of our other family members stayed elsewhere and were not pleased. I cannot say enough good things about this place. It is much more grand than the website exhibits. Our room was cozy and lovely and the common area's just as wonderful. Breakfast is well beyond most fabulous brunch' s that you'd spend money on. Paul's sister bakes fresh quiche, muffins, breads and he offers up fresh fruit, juice, coffee, tea and always water bottles. Also, there is a nice front porch to sit on and the next door neighbor cat (black and white) would like to live there as she always hung out with us on the porch at night. I would absolutely stay here again over and over!

Reed Y.

Yelp
I was in Hudson with my girlfriend last weekend and we really enjoyed The Country Squire. The place was much more impressive than the pictures on the website promote. Paul was a great host and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Courtney M.

Yelp
I chose this B&B largely based on the reviews here and on Trip Advisor and I can say that were 100% accurate in showcasing what is best about the Country Squire. The location is just off the beaten path of Warren St but still walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants. The decor is beautiful and our king size room was very comfortable. I loved the claw foot tub, situated in a bathroom as large as my living room. The standout though was the owner, Paul, himself. He was quick to respond to my inquiry on availability and helped me book a room on very short notice. Upon arrival he was welcoming and friendly. The morning of our stay, I let him know we would not be able to make breakfast due to a previously planned activity...yet found it prepared and waiting for us upon our return an hour after serving time. (Not to mention, the food was OUTSTANDING). I can't justify why I would ever stay at another B&B in the Hudson area after having such a wonderful experience at The Country Squire.

F B.

Yelp
Although I was in town for work, I left town incredibly refreshed and relaxed due entirely to my stay at this great B&B. I really enjoyed the small touches like including bath salts for the claw foot tub, great lighting and having fresh perfectly ripe fruit for breakfast in November. The bed was comfortable, the floors were not creaky, and even the coffee was delicious. This place was a small oasis in my annual year-end work overload. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

R. B.

Yelp
We highly recommend Batterby House enthusiastically! Joe and Courtney are gracious hosts who know how to create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for guests. Our room was spacious (as was the bathroom) and well-appointed; the linens and bed were incredibly comfortable; and the bath products luscious. The record player and records in our room were an added treat, as was the plentiful refreshment bar on the second floor landing, which included flavored seltzer, water, a variety of popcorns, and candy/candy bar treats. Perhaps, you can find most of these amenities elsewhere in Hudson (though we doubt it); what we're certain you won't find elsewhere are the gourmet breakfast. Seriously, between Joe's cooking and baking, you'll be treated to delicious--beyond delicious--food that's freshly prepared, creative and delectable. We suspect that we won't have another occasion to travel from our West Coast home to Hudson (we were there for a wedding), but our experience at Batterby House--and the beautiful area--will likely inspire another trip in the future.

Tanya F.

Yelp
Clean, beautiful, welcoming, roomy bed and breakfast. Paul is a delightful host and both my boyfriend and I would go back anytime.

andrea g.

Yelp
While looking for a midweek get-away from the city, my girlfriend and I researched some places on the web and were drawn to The Country Squire by it's friendly and informative website. It was a short walk from the Amtrak station but they do offer a ride. Upon our arrival our host, Paul, was warm and welcoming but not too intrusive. The room exceeded our expectations; it was private, spacious, very clean, aesthetically pleasing, the bed was very comfortable, as was the claw foot bathtub. Breakfast was lovely, we learned much history and were directed toward places of interest which filled our day. The location was near all the attractions Hudson has to offer. All in all, Paul does his job and more in providing a comforting home away from home whilst highlighting the charms of Colombia County.

Dianne S.

Yelp
I visited Hudson for the Hudson Children's Book Festival in May 2016. The organizers of the festival arrange accommodations for out-of-town guest authors, and I was assigned to stay at the Country Squire. I was delighted by the Queen Suite, a surprisingly spacious room -- immaculately clean, tastefully decorated, charming, and very comfortable. Paul, the owner, was friendly and kind, and he put on a wonderful breakfast from 8-9 am: fresh fruit, yogurt, pastry, and two kinds of quiche. The house also has a front parlor that guests are welcome to use. The Country Squire is within walking distance of the train station and Warren Street, where many shops and restaurants are located. Considering that I didn't know where I would be staying when I agreed to come to the festival, I feel as if I hit the jackpot! If you are visiting Hudson or just looking for an excellent B&B experience, this is the place you want.
