Stopped in to this local coffee shop while visiting the area and it was so good we had to come the next morning as well! The drink… Cubano it is the star of the show here. Sultry, smooth, dark, and last to hit the palette is the brown sugar to end the show. Well done battle cat, will return and highly recommend!

Chill place, soundtrack inside has great energy. Staff was nice, got my coffee quick and my bagel sandwich right after that. Coffee is excellent, probably my new favorite in town. Perfect balance of sweet to flavor to espresso, giving the best of each to the experience. Sandwich was a lil sloppy, but that's not a bad thing, it gave me that made at home on a Saturday morning vibe, minus the cooking and cleanup. That was perfectly alright with me.

Google
Their lattes with oat milk are deliciously divine. Great menu options and a great place to work or have a quick break while exploring the local area. Plus the service is lovely!

Google
I hate making this review because I have been coming here for years, and only recently have been seeing the quality of service and coffee go down. In the past week or so I have come for coffee probably 4-5 times. Each time I come I’ve either had a very nice woman with brunette hair who makes a great coffee and I’ve recognized for a while, or a pretty unpleasant tall gentleman with brown hair. I’m not sure if he is new, or if I just happened to never see him before, but every interaction I’ve had with him has been unpleasant and the coffee he makes is just bad. I know it’s not the shop, because every other staff member makes wonderful coffee, but maybe this man may need some additional training and a discussion about how he speaks to customers (like they aren’t an annoyance to him)!

Google
This is a badass coffee shop! Our coffees were amazing! Thanks for everything!

Google
Delicious breakfasts and great coffee options to start the day. Indoor seating is minimal but cozy. Outdoor seating is more plentiful but not the most comfortable. An outdoor seating upgrade would have brought my review to five starts of this cute café.

Google
Do you know those times when the coffee is so good it stays with you for the rest of the day? You keep thinking about it and are almost afraid to go back fearing that next time it will only be really good and not amazing? That was my experience this morning when I got a cappuccino at this fun, eclectic coffee shop. First off, it was a true cappuccino, not just a latte with a little less milk. And the foam was perfect. And most importantly, the espresso was amazing.

I used to love this place before the hurricane, but the quality of the coffee just isn’t the same and has gone downhill. I’m not sure what happened, but I’ve tried a few times and it tastes watered down.

Yelp
With a name like "Battle Cat Coffee," how could you not stop there for a cup of bean juice? Great coffee. I had a divine iced latte, and I definitely considered going back for another one before we left because it was so good. The vibes are immaculate, there's local art for sale, and it feels like hanging out in your friend's college apartment living room--except that friend is a badass barista who makes the best stuff. There's a Tiger Bay cafe in the back that's making some killer sandwiches. I got a breakfast burrito, and the bacon on there was the best I have ever had. I need to know their secrets. There's plenty of indoor seating, but there's also an eclectic outdoor garden-y space for sitting and hanging out with friends and a separate outdoor space--there is plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the great weather and the coffee. Great place, hands-down. You need to stop here if you're swinging through Asheville.

Yelp
Long line, but it goes quick. I had a Caramel & Hazelnut Latte with oat milk and JA had a Macha Latte with Caramel, but we added some simple syrup to sweeten to taste. It looks like a hole in the wall, but shares with Tiger Bay Cafe (which is in the back) and their food is so flavorful!

Madison T.

Yelp
Absolutely love this coffee shop. The local art is always immersive and so intricate with its details, the coffee is delicious, and the vibes are great. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating as well. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We ordered from tiger bay cafe (in the same building) and enjoyed the patio seating. My iced Thai coconut latte was delicious!

Kat D.

Yelp
Coffee is very sweet and yummy! I really enjoyed my egg and cheese bagel. So good I didn't even take a picture because I dug right in. Definitely want to come back and get another egg and cheese bagel soon. Soooo delicious and a great breakfast stop.

Kristen T.

Yelp
Battle Cat shares a space with tiger cafe. We were stopping in for the second time for breakfast so we decided to grab coffee from here. We were both so underwhelmed. I couldn't even drink mine it was awful. I'm assuming it was an off time for them because the reviews seem so positive. We will absolutely skip coffee from here next time.

Alan W.

Yelp
This is a fun place for a flavored coffee. We ordered hot gingerbread lattes. The flavoring was strong, & so I was pleased with the taste. Since it was a chilly morning, the hot & foamy espresso along with the bold flavor hit the spot.

Schyler D.

Yelp
Came highly recommended by a friend, and it very much checks out. Plus how can you not be intrigued by the name "Battle Cat"? This place is great, you walk in and the vibes are just homely but edgy. The coffee is fantastic, and the baristas are quite friendly. Definitely coming back!

Michelle S.

Yelp
The barista was kind and patient while I decided and the whole transaction was so pleasant. The coffee is delicious and the price is surprisingly reasonable considering how much everything costs now. I'll definitely be back!!

Jordan E.

Yelp
The baristas here deserve a raise. Consistent. Friendly. Fast. Service oriented. Whoever owns this business should be so proud. The espresso is divine and the vibes here do Asheville (the real Asheville) proud. Never change, Battle Cat! You're my favorite. Shhh, don't tell the others. ;)

Juliana J.

Yelp
Quickly, friendly service, delicious coffee, great atmosphere, awesome art inside as well. Really cute outdoor area as well. There is plenty of street parking nearby. Highly recommend!

Jonathan G.

Yelp
I was a consistent customer, going several times a week. That was until owner, on several occasions (when they decided to come in and micromanage) The owner has on more than one occasion spent considerable time pateronizing both me and several other customers. All over randomly enforcing upcharges that are not on the menu, seeminly making them up at their discretion. "The owner" has chastised and cursed to their employees several times. Owner does not know how to run a business or even what customer service is. Wish I could give worse stars. I only gave them 2 stars so that people would actually read this review. There are so many other business' that are happy to assist and provide excellent customer service. Dobra Tea is right down the road and never have a problem :

Sam D.

Yelp
Great food and coffee Messy begal breakfast means it's good. It's reeeeaaaaaallllllyyyyyyyyyy gooooooooodddddd. You just eat here.

Yelp
HOLYYY SH*T I am here in Asheville for spring break, and I wanted a nice latte to sip on for the ride back home. I KNOW YALL DONT KNOW ME but oh my lanta this latte is one of the best I have ever had and I have had my fair share of local coffee shops. I got an iced toasted marshmallow with cinnamon latte, and my boyfriend got white chocolate with cinnamon. BOTH WERE TOO AMAZING i wanted to cry. There is no bitter coffee taste as for what I've experienced with local shops and the flavor of the coffee itself was perfect. Definitely not too sweet but yummy enough for you to actually taste the flavor syrup. Just wonderful honestly!!!!

Nata D.

Yelp
I was SO excited to come here. Are you kidding me, a battle cat themed coffee shop?! I wanted to get all their merch before I even got there. HOWEVER Upon entering this establishment, the environment immediately felt hostile. There were 3 people in the main area & someone at the bar but we were able to find another more tucked-away area with no one in it to put our things down. We utilized the chessboard that was left out on the table, which was cool. But the pieces didn't come from the same set & some were broken & wouldn't stand up but rather fall over, which left me thinking that it was probably more of a decor thing & they'd actually prefer for you not to stay a while & play. Now onto the service, not great. at all. I'd actually probably never come back simply because of the way we were treated. I'm not sure if we weren't fitting the goth aesthetic in there or what, but the cashier had a weird, rude, and super agitated, vibe going on right off the bat. She wasn't educated about their product whatsoever. When we asked about what teas she had, she just pointed towards the back wall where they were all set up & said "Those are the ones I have". First of all, they're far away so it's hard to read the names, & the ones I was interested in were rubbed off. When I asked about one she looked at me like I was stupid before trying to read it for herself & realizing that it was rubbed off. She finally moved from her cross-arm stance & went to go grab it, she literally slammed it onto the counter & I was shocked that the glass didn't break. Anyway, after getting past the miserable ordering process, we waited for quite a while. Our drinks were set right outside the room we were sitting in, which I found odd, like you're 4 feet away, why not set it on the table, after we visibly tipped 20% (She made sure to check before making our order) Our order wasn't good. Well, the tea latte wasn't. Like the worst one I've ever had actually. The matcha was alright, I asked for light ice & I got a full cup of ice. Idk, come at your own risk ig.

Alexis R.

Yelp
Loved their Thai cold brew and drip coffee from the coffee side of this shared building (Tiger Bay Cafe is also housed here). If I had had more time in AVL I would've tried more off of their menu.

Brit S.

Yelp
Excellent spot for coffee and local art. We ordered the seasonal coffee, and it was delicious. I also grabbed a few pieces off of the wall to take home. Take note, the art is heavy with emotion and personal anecdotes. Do not come expecting rainbows and butterflies. I personally loved the 'darker' pieces, and overall vibe of the shop. We did not experience any rude service based on how we dressed, as noted in other reviews. We experienced a busy and efficient staff, who absolutely lit up at the purchase of the artwork. Seems like a spot the locals treasure, and for good reason.

Andrew H.

Yelp
This iced chai was super good. Got one yesterday and had to come back to get it again lol

Johnny B.

Yelp
This shop , to me epitomizes Asheville. funky, chill, artsy. love the odd yet comfortable space, employee vibes, as well as quality of black coffee and breakfast sandwich. Two reasons I took off a star. First refill is $1.50. Most shops(the best ones) give one free refill or max of $1 for refill. the other thing(the big one) is there are two business inside the location. As a marketing guy, it's ridicules they do not coordinate. I literally had to go to one counter to order my breakfast sandwich and then to other biz to order coffee. (like 10 feet apart) totally whack, even if separate owners. total confusion with people back and forth, creating lack of flow of customers. if I could I'd give 4.5 because, even with the 2 negatives I mention, I was digging it and will return.

Suzanne S.

Yelp
Cool, hip place with yummy chai tea, but not so great hot chocolate :) Inside they feature local art so you can browse or shop while waiting on your coffee. They also have food for sale, but you have to order and pay at another window. It is in an old home so the creaky floors and multiple rooms make great spots for reading, visiting or working on your laptop. We also loved the outdoor seating in the garden. Very quaint and atmospheric. We'll be back!

Tom C.

Yelp
Absolutely third class establishment!. Dirty grounds outside and basic so tiny inside your only option is to be outside. The kitchen looks grimly and unorganized and dingy!! Was very loud with the number of people inside and people like breathing down your neck on a Saturday afternoon, you could tell who was next in line also and just aloof employees. Just a totally sub - par event, and couldn't wait to get out of there. :0(

Courtney K.

Yelp
Pretty cool little place - it reminds me of many coffee spots in New Orleans that are in old houses. The artwork all around is fun to look at while you wait, and I love the logo. It's a little weird that you can order coffee and pastries and bagels in one window, but if you want a breakfast sandwich, you must take approximately four steps and order from "Tiger Bay" at a different window. A lot of seating is squeezed into this tiny place (seats were quite close together), which has a big following.

Stacey O.

Yelp
My new favorite place! ...and I'm not easy to please. I got an iced mocha which was the perfect amount of sweetness & espresso taste. Very casual vibe& great prices. Thank you for being here Battle Cat! .

Matus-Dad F.

Yelp
Very cozy spot. Great place to study or get some work done. Coffee is great too, up to par with most coffee places in Asheville. Employees are nice as well. Haven't tried the food yet but they have a solid menu for a coffee shop. Unable to give a full 5 stars since I haven't tried the food but maybe I'll update the review when I do.

Mindy L.

Yelp
Great place to hangout with your friends over a cup of coffee. When I went to visit, you could not sit inside but there is a lot of outdoor seating so it was not a problem. I ordered the oat latte and my friend ordered cappuccino. They also have items that you can buy inside such as art, stickers, and other things. Very eclectic and comfortable to hang out. Pets are welcome outside just not inside.

Lucy M.

Yelp
This place is very cute! Lots of art from local artists, and has a very cozy atmosphere. The coffee was pretty good but the only thing that put me off was that the flavoring kind of overpowered the coffee. Tigerbay is also in the back for brunch/lunch and they rocked. Also, the bathroom is really cool!

Luke H.

Yelp
Solid zone. The coffee was good. It's a lounge spot for 20 somethings. Not very accessible for folks on either side of that range. If you like an "eclectic vibe" this is right in your wheelhouse. I did enjoy their selection of items for sale. Made me chuckle.

Kat I.

Yelp
Great bagels with lots of filling inside. They definitely didn't skimp out on it. I got a breakfast bagel which was awesome

Olivia N.

Yelp
best cafe to work at ! amazing food service and drinks. The space is very beautiful and i love sitting outside with my dog.

Meghan T.

Yelp
Great West Asheville location with on street parking, but fantastic covered porch and garden space too enjoy in nice weather and inside seating when the weather isn't quite as cooperative. The interior harkens back to coffee shops of my youth with vintage furniture, local art, and a delightfully graffitied bathroom. Staff here is top notch. Drinks are delicious! And though we didn't try any food items, we'll be happy to return and tick that off our box while we enjoy a little nostalgia.

Carl H.

Yelp
Well, what can I say? The people are nice and the coffee is OK, but I came here to work, and the wifi is deadly slow. I asked the barista about it and he said they are in a "dead spot" here. So if it doesn't get better I'll have to go.

Jeff G.

Yelp
They went up on refills from $ 1.50 to 2.00 recently. That's now Four Times more than Starbucks. I know it's just fifty cents, but that's simply annoying.

Maria H.

Yelp
A hip and comfy coffee shop. The location is homey and welcoming. Looking for unique works from local artists? Just look around! They have lots to feature. The menu is simple with a few items but oh boy are they delicious! I fell in love with the sandwiches. They have available WiFi. The staff is so kind and welcoming. If I lived in Asheville, this would definitely be my daily coffee shop.

Chris R.

Yelp
Retro funky atmosphere, great coffee and good food. Outdoor seating shines with the weather.

Sean B.

Yelp
Not from the town. Worst cappuccino I have had in life: watery espresso and diluted milk. It's worse than 1.5 dollar cappuccino from my school's vending machine.

Kristin U.

Yelp
Good Mexican mocha, a tad too much chocolate for me, but balanced with cinnamon and cayenne. Limited space inside, with local art featured for sale, and plenty of outdoor seating in front.

jason l.

Yelp
This spot is so cute and genuine. The coffee is fabulous and the decor is a spectacle. Take in all the vivid artwork while you wait for a cup and don't be afraid to walk down the hall of the shared space to enjoy some scratch made breakfast items. I purchased a jug of cold brew and am happy with that decision!

Martin F.

Yelp
Cool little place to hang out for coffee. And love their Battle Cat Stickers!! Get one!!

Ale R.

Yelp
Great food and coffee! + really cute place and outside seating! Food was fast and staff was really friendly!

Jen A.

Yelp
Great coffees and a cool space! Felt very safe - window orders and outdoor seating only. One of the best lattes I've ever had.

Dunn F.

Yelp
Quaint little coffee and bread shop. Adjacent to it, it's a place to order more substantial food. Very much a hipster feel, with its decor, but that should deter no one as the clientele is very eclectic. Had a nice cappuccino. Buy a cool shirt and a sticker while you are there.

Roasted Unroasted C.

Yelp
Roasted: found Battle Cat coffee here in Asheville NC. Wasn't sure what to expect with everything going on but it was a good experience. The coffee shop was open for take out or you could enjoy your coffee on the patio outside. The barista was very friendly even though he was by himself. No sugar free flavors but he has a sugar free plain sweetener which I actually like better than a flavor. No latte art and can't nick them for not giving us a mug for here. Latte was good though. I love the feel of the house. Unroasted: love the atmosphere this places gives off. Even during the limited capabilities of the business I can see the great layout. I latte art was missing and no sugar free flavoring but great tasting. I would recommend checking place out. I will be retiring once it's fully opened.

Sarah A.

Yelp
Whenever I visit Asheville I have to go out of my to check out new and different places. So, I take some time to look up places to visit and well, that's how I found Battle Cat Coffee. I know, that's not the most amazing story but... yeah... lol But anyways, with a name like Battle Cat Coffee, I knew I had to check it out. This coffee bar screams Asheville. It's located in an actual neighborhood. In the area there is a lot of graffiti and it's pretty cool. Very artsy. It was a little confusing trying to figure out where to park, but we eventually just parked somewhere. I can't tell where that was that we parked. I'm pretty sure it wasn't where we were supposed to park either lol. It was not really close to the coffee shop... so... Moving on... The outside of the coffee bar is awesome. It's located inside of a house and on the front door they have their awesome brand art, which is a cat holding a knife or switchblade or something like that. Pretty cool. The inside was very down to earth. Nothing pretentious at all. I ordered a latte to go. They were pretty busy, but the coffee came out quick and the staff was super nice. They also had a selection of pastries but I did not order one. They sounded good though. I also liked that their brand logo was on the to go cup. Very cute. Overall I really love this coffee bar and I plan on going back. Highly recommend.

Elena M.

Yelp
Ok, this place is the epitomie of Asheville chic-grunge. I love coming here b/c you can get a Buchi (kombucha). It's open until 8pm. You can people watch for hours on their huge outdoor patio, & all are welcome. It's also right across the street from Builders Resource (a huge construction and lumber yard). However, they have a really fun patio. Battlecat has a NYC grunge vibe. Be sure to visit the bathroom, which is priceless. Just don't spend too much time in there. In fact, I took off one star b/c of the bathroom, which doesn't feel "clean" to me. They need to completely renovate it with a new toilet, sink, & new fixtures. The graffiti doesn't bother me, but today, 11/06/18, the toilet would barely flush. You have to hold the handle down. I also like Owl bakery just a couple blocks away (which has a French vibe with marble and high end tile work). So I feel that the two coffee shops can satisfy very different tastes depending upon one's mood.

K V.

Yelp
Cute ambiance, fair prices, nice outdoor area, homey feeling inside. Coffee is pretty good, a little strong but not too over powering or bitter

Kitty R.

Yelp
There's a lot to love about Battle Cat. Except the fact that they allow people to bring their dogs INTO the establishment. Very inconsiderate of people who allergies, fear of dogs, or who just don't want dog hair settling into their latte.

Dave O.

Yelp
Coffee!! They did great! I had the mocha w oat milk was very tasty!:) they gave me a cool sticker! Ill be sure to stick it somewhere I can remember that I had some great coffee in Asheville NC be sure stop by and read the scribble on the table its super artsy!!

Ariel F.

Yelp
I really wanted to review this place because I read so many negative reviews about the service. I was nervous to visit because so many people have talked about the staff being openly rude to them. This is simply false. I'm not sure what those guys were talking about but I spent 4 hours here and was helped by three different female(?) servers and every single person was kind, warm, and welcoming. They were all smiles. I really appreciated that they offer some alcohol options here as I don't drink coffee and came here to join friends. The wines and beers I had were all reasonably priced. Tiger Bay is in the same building and they offer a variety of sandwiches. One thing to note is that the bathroom door is opened with a passcode and it's easy to forget so make sure you write it down when the servers tell it to you.

Scout L.

Yelp
absolutely incredible baristas, my favorite coffee shop in all of asheville. I always walk in after a treacherous night of debauchery. do the baristas judge? no sir, they just give you delicious coffee and send you on your way. I walked in this morning and to put it lightly, if I were a house, I looked like that dilapidated mansion in Grey Gardens. No side eyes from these amazing employees, just a tremendous latte that they made with all of the love in their hearts. 10 stars.

Kaylin J.

Yelp
Good coffee and decent atmosphere. I really enjoyed the art and stickers for sell. My only issues were the unresponsive staff and the fact that you had to get a code from the front to use the restroom. In my experience, that is often a tactic used to keep unhoused people from coming in to use your bathroom.

Annie M.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Battle Cat. When you walk in, it has this eccentric, very Asheville vibe to it. There is awesomely odd artwork hanging everywhere and the set up is comfortable yet strange with sofas, small tables and chairs and outdoor seating. The energy is high. I'll say that whenever I order their hot coffee, I always think that it tastes like fish but am always satisfied when I order a latte or anything cold. I don't go here often but every time I do, I get a warm, fuzzy and proud-to-be-an-Ashevillian feeling.
