Frankenmuth Is Michigan’s Bavarian Christmas Town All Year Long | Eater

"An iconic, high-capacity fried-chicken restaurant that offers the same all-you-care-to-eat, family-style chicken dinners—lightly breaded, crisp-skinned pieces accompanied by dressing, mashed potatoes, cranberry relish, cottage cheese and assorted relishes—served in a distinctly German/Bavarian atmosphere. Servers are costumed in traditional Bavarian dress, the dining is communal and nostalgic, and the restaurant sits across the street from its long-running counterpart; together the two establishments rank among the nation’s highest-volume independent restaurants, each seating over 1,000 and drawing repeat visitors year after year." - Serena Maria Daniels

This place is really cool in all ways. They have a massive dining and bar upstairs that was kinda busy when we went. They told us about a basement bar that was down the hall and it was amazing. It felt like a speakeasy, and they had a live piano player and everything. They have a massive beer and drink menu, so anything you can imagine - they have. Fantastic location and experience, we will forsure be back

My review is strictly about the restaurant and surrounding area, I have not stayed in the Inn. We've been here twice, once for a birthday, once just because, both times on a whim and for breakfast. You do not need reservations in the morning on weekdays, I cannot speak to weekends. There is no dress code for breakfast, we were concerned since we showed up unprepared but were seated. The restaurant is large and scenic. Tables are clean and orderly. Menu is small but sufficient. Price is fair for the quality and portion. Staff is attentive but not invasive. They let you enjoy your meal but are available when needed. Food is timely, accurate and delicious. Grounds are well kept, bar/lounge is very welcoming and plenty of places to explore. Recommend giving them a try for an upscale dining experience. Not all Bavarian food, but some good options if that's what you're wanting to try.

I had lunch this past week at the Bavarian Inn restaurant. I ordered the prime rib sandwich with fries. The prime rib tasted like it was from the day before. The fries were the best part of the meal. The waiter was very attentive but unfortunately the food needs help.

This was our first time staying and also dining at the Bavarian Inn. We are locals, so this was a little mini-getaway. Everyone raves about the Bavarian, so maybe my expectations were a little too high. We checked in and made reservations for dinner. The grounds are beautiful, service was friendly and helpful. We went to our room, it is nice but a bit dated and not as clean as I would have expected. The bathroom had some mold in the shower, the bathtub had hair in it and was a little grimey, and there was something on the floor (in the grout) around the toilet. It was quiet, even being close to the elevator. The bed was comfy. Dinner. The restaurant was not full, but there was a wedding outside, so maybe staff was overwhelmed. The hostess was very nice. Service seemed slow to me, we had 3 different people at our table to take drink orders, set bread down, take our food order and then bring out our food. Nobody asked how we were doing or how the food was after it was brought out. My steak was overcooked and had very little chimichurri on it, it also had some other sauce underneath it that was just odd tasting. My husband's Rueben was greasy (but tasty). The meal took much longer than it should've, we didn't have appetizers (mostly because I am sensitive to many foods and couldn't really eat anything available). Then our server didn't return our credit card, it was dropped somehow in the dining room. Thankfully she found it. The website says the pool is closed, so I skipped packing my suit but there were people in the pool. So that was a bit disappointing because the pool is beautiful. The grounds are nicely kept, aside from being a dry but I know that is from the lack of rain we've had. Breakfast was the redemption. Our server was wonderful! The food was great. I wish I could've eaten the complimentary biscuits. I had to order a bunch of sides because of my special diet. The potatoes were delicious, just like my mom makes them. Bacon doesn't take like chemicals (much appreciated) and the fresh fruit was very tasty (not always the case). So, again, maybe it was my high expectations but I was a little disappointed. It definitely is not crossed off the list forever. It was a good experience, just not great.

Wonderful accommodations. The atmosphere is magical. We had a delicious dinner and it was perfectly prepared and presented. Guests can enjoy a free continental breakfast that featured fresh fruits, Danish, cheese and meats, eggs, bacon, yogurt and 4 types of juice. I can't wait to go back. Very relaxing.

We visited Bavarian Inn last night with high hopes after reading so many glowing reviews. Unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing. We were excited to try what we expected to be authentic German cuisine, but what we got felt like a poor imitation, clearly not prepared by someone with a deep understanding of the food’s origins. We ordered the Jaegerschnitzel and Sauerbraten. The schnitzel was mediocre at best — chewy and completely underwhelming, especially for the price. It was smothered in a strange sauce that did it no favors and was paired with a bland, confusing side dish that tasted like a mushy pasta, though we couldn’t even be sure. We also asked for mashed potatoes, and what we got looked (and tasted) like it had been sitting around for days — dry, lumpy, and flavorless. The beef, Sauerbraten, was the real letdown. It tasted like it had been cooked the night before and reheated, then drowned in an overly sweet sauce that overwhelmed the dish. This was by far one of the worst meals we’ve had in a long time. Nothing about it resembled the renowned German cuisine we were hoping for. Unfortunately, it just felt like a poorly executed American version of something vaguely European. Would not recommend to anyone looking for a true Bavarian dining experience.
