"We know that New Zealand is home to almost 5 million people, and that many of them live within hours of Bay of Many Coves. But for the other 7,595,000,000 of us, it’s a bit of a trek, so it’s fitting they’d have a hotel on this list. Especially this particular hotel, which requires a few final exciting steps to reach its scenic, serene expanse — there are no roads in, so your arrival comes via helicopter, seaplane or ferry." - The MICHELIN Guide

This is a very special place. The long water taxi ride from Picton changes the channel effectively - you disembark into a small, remote outpost of civilization not reachable by road, and far from ordinary life. Very comfortable apartments, good resort dining, with hiking and kayaking available if you're motivated. Totally unpretentious - the best sort of rustic wilderness luxury.

We stayed at this beautiful location with a fantastic view from our apartment. We arrived here by water taxi and sailed for about an hour from Picton. We were greeted by a very friendly staff member, shown around, and given our apartment. We thought the apartment was nicely decorated, but the entire resort is starting to need maintenance. It’s in no way a 5-star experience. The food at their evening restaurant was nothing special – definitely not close to 5 stars. The food was very average and really expensive for the quality. The pictures on social media are highly misleading and don’t reflect what we experienced. It’s not something we would recommend to others. The waiters also didn’t seem to be properly trained, more like young people working to fund their travels in New Zealand. While that’s fine, it’s just not what you’d expect from a restaurant that describes itself as 5-star. So, the food didn’t meet our expectations. The breakfast buffet was never replenished and often had nearly empty trays. You’d have to be there early to have more options. However, the egg dishes that were ordered were good. The coffee was definitely a highlight of the breakfast. In-room dining was very limited and didn’t meet the expected standard for what this resort is trying to present itself as. Actually, we would suggest that guests buy groceries before arriving for a light lunch, as there are utensils and plates in the apartment. We didn’t know this until we had already sailed there and had no alternatives. Our overall feeling after staying at the resort for 3 nights is that they lack quality given their excessively high prices. On our trip to New Zealand, we’ve experienced much higher quality for significantly less money than what we got at this resort.

The Bay of Many Coves was our splurge stay during our 2-week honeymoon road trip through New Zealand. The service and amenities were incredible, and there's a lot to do if you're not the relaxing type. We were able to do some hiking, kayaking, and relax in the hot tub afterwards. We were able to catch a ride to the Bay of Many Coves at the end of our E-Ko dolphin-watching tour, which the hotel arranged for us. The meals and views were incredible, and we would absolutely stay there again!

An absolute oasis and beautiful retreat in the Marlborough Sounds - perfect for relaxation as well as a great base to explore the surrounding area. The team were helpful and welcoming without being overbearing, the food was delicious (especially the fish tacos!), and we really enjoyed being able to head straight into the cool water from the forested hotel grounds. The hotel were also super helpful when we wanted to tackle some of the Queen Charlotte track - helping us with water taxis as well as lending poles for a long trek uphill from the resort itself. Would definitely stay here again - thank you BoMC team!

Beautiful beautiful facility. Super friendly staff. Delicious food. A perfect place to spend Christmas. We hiked, kayaked, and went on a nearby wine tour. They offer guest laundry which came in handy. The rooms were perfectly stocked and very comfortable.

I had a wonderful stay at BOMC. It was relaxing and beautiful, the food was wonderful and the room was spacious with gorgeous views. I enjoyed a lovely massage at the spa and had a great hike and spent a morning kayaking. My stay was a perfect blend of some activities without being rushed.
