"One of the oldest pastry shops in the city, classic charmer Baylan Pastanesi is famous for Kup Griye, an ice cream dessert made with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, whipped cream, and almond brittle. It goes especially well with an espresso. If that sounds like too much, Baylan’s petit fours, ice cream cakes, and homemade chocolates will satisfy any sweet tooth. If you spend your visit on the European side, Baylan is the perfect reason to visit the Asian side of town." - Tuba Şatana
I must say bravo to them for keeping the prices reasonable. I enjoyed my kup griye! It was worth it (though that meant I had to walk 10,000 steps). There were so much delicious desserts you could choose from but there is only so much one can eat.
They accepted foreign credit cards which was great. The restrooms were clean!
I will be back to try other items inşallah :)

An old and well known patisserie shop in Kadıköy. The sweets are amazing. Our favorite is one of Baylan’s signature sweets: “Kup Griye”. It is an out of this world experience. It’s made with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, toasted almonds, pistachios, cream chantilly and served with cat’s tounge biscuits. An absolute must try! Well done for keeping the same high level quality through the years!!!

Trust this picky gringo… You will not regret ordering the Kup Griye. It is unlike any dessert I have had in my life. I have the ultimate sweet tooth and have tried desserts on almost every continent on this green earth. The caramel, vanilla, pistachio, creamy yet crunchy texture blend perfectly in every bite.
The bad: it is a little expensive for dessert and heavy on the sugar but worth every penny in my opinion. Every other dessert here pales in comparison. Another bad thing is that you will think of this dessert when you are back home and wonder if it was just a dream :o
P.S. Pair this with the Tokyo pizza restaurant in Kadikoy and your mouth will have the happiest day of your life my friends

The cup one is “kup griye”. It mainly consists of caramel; good to share for 2 ppl. The cake is “adisababa”. It consists of different layers, coated with chocolate at outside. We can taste different flavour in different layers. Worth to try once.

Recommended by one of friends, said this place is oldest surviving pastry shop in Istanbul. I had tried their famous Kup Griye, the vanilla and caramel ice cream with roasted almond and caramel sauce. It is absolutely delicious, the combination of each elements is amazing.

Baylan in Kadıköy is more than just a pastry shop—it’s an institution woven into the fabric of Istanbul’s culinary and cultural history. Stepping inside feels like entering a timeless space where tradition meets elegance. The legendary Kup Griye, a signature dessert adored across generations, is reason enough to visit. But Baylan offers far more: a refined selection of confections, pastries, and desserts unlike anything found elsewhere in Turkey. Its loyal regulars, nostalgic atmosphere, and occasional celebrity sightings only add to its charm. A visit to Baylan is not just a treat—it's a ritual.

This is a traditional Turkish pastry shop with a cozy interior in the middle of the Moda area. They have indoor and outdoor dining areas. The interior design is simple, stylish and cozy. Staff are polite and helpful.
My Cappuccino was a bit cold and didn't taste like I'm used to.

Great dessert place. I had this ice cream sundae.. felt like 100 years ago in New York Macy's 6th Ave.
The salty caramel sauce was deliciously nutty (maybe grounded with pistachio).. definitely one of the best ever.
Clean, comfortable, old fashioned service. A great summer oasis in the busy area. I wish to visit again.

Yelp
Decided to have dessert before lunch because of the reputation of their Salty Carmel Sundae. It was worth it! two layers of ice cream with a toffee crunch middle drizzled with caramel and whipped cream pistachios on top. Normally in the US I would stay away from such a desert, but this wasn't too sweet if you can imagine that.
I missed this establishment initially as the signage is a bit faded, and the store front is lackluster. However, once you get past the display counters, it does open up in to a long seating area with both inside and outdoor patio seating.

Yelp
Baylan has incredibly decadent desserts, chocolates, and great coffee and çay.
Their chocolate mousse is great - light and fluffy but also decadent.

Yelp
This place is famous for krup griye. My husband had that and loved it. I am vegan so I had a bite of the others dessert. We have been here several times to take friends and everyone is happy. Kind service. Nice outside sitting area.

Yelp
I had the infamous ice cream "sundae" that they recommend you try. It was delicious. Unfortunately I decided to share it...could have easily eaten it on my own and perhaps another one!

Yelp
Location is great if you are lucky to find a table outside by the sea. The desserts are definitely fantastic!

Yelp
This very old, traditional pastry shop is a very good place to go, if you're looking for some luxury, old-fashioned desserts. Definitely try the 'kup griye'.

Yelp
This adorable cafe is like walking through a time warp. If you've ever wanted to go to a lovely little Ottoman pastry shop, I highly recommend this.
The French style macaroons are to die for, the coffee is my favorite. Whilst in Istanbul I lived just a few blocks from Baylan, and it took all of my will power to not eat their tasty treats every day.
Great outdoor seating patio in the back.

Yelp
this place is a must for those with a sweet tooth, filled with ice cream/caramel, chocolately goodness, a great way to end the day before boarding the ferry back to the european side. service end can be improved though.

Yelp
Best ice cream, the Kup Griye, I've ever tasted in my life. Perfect combination of creamy vanilla ice cream with smooth caramel sauce, ground pistachio, almonds, crunchy bits of toffee and fluffy whipped cream. Make one to go, sit by the marina, and enjoy heaven on earth!

Yelp
if you wanna take a journey to 60s of Istanbul, you should see Baylan with amazing deserts, thats the place.
in addition, you must taste their special kup griye.

Yelp
We went to Baylan to try out the Kup Griye, that really has been rated high both here and on TripAdvisor. I have to admit that I was extremely disappointed. It's highly overrated. It's basically a bit of bland vanilla ice cream, a lot of caramel sauce, some whipped cream and some very burned caramel chunks with an almost dusty very boring cookie. Sorry, it's just not worth it.
