"Pastry chef turned restaurateur David Guas’ flagship restaurant is a neighborhood treasure. Need to get going in the morning? He’s got gourmet coffee, biscuit breakfast sandwiches, and cooked-to-order beignets. Looking for something more substantial? The kitchen serves everything from grilled pimento cheese sandwiches and olive spread-covered muffulettas to daily blue plate specials until closing." - Eater Staff

In all honesty I only go for the beignets... they are that good. I've had others tell me the rest of their menu is great too. It's a nice place to study, but there is no wifi on weekends and no computers in the main room after 5pm - so make sure to plan accordingly. Very friendly staff, and well-decorated building. Worth a visit (or two)!

Excellent service was received even within a half hour of their closing. The staff gave my friend an expert overview of the various types of coffees/brews. Fabulous location and ambiance, and nice outdoor seating area!

Very comfortable atmosphere, everything is laid out in a very smooth manner, decor is real Louisiana style, yet very efficient. Good coffee, not crowded, food was good. Options are limited, I think the breakfast menu would receive a boost if there were more green/fruit options. Maybe collard greens in scrambled eggs, I don't know haha that might be a long shot. The sun heats the roof so you might get warm. Definitely a cool spot, and thumbs up for keeping it authentic.

The barista is wonderful. I enjoyed our conversation about whole versus skim milk. The coffee was tasty and the atmosphere is relaxed. I came here to get out of the sun and to set down after a long walk around the Capitol area. I love that this place isn't very crowded compared to other coffee shops. This place has many places to sit.

This establishment greatly disappoints, and make me regret the hour drive to the Southeast DC location, and I will not try the Northern Virginia location. I ordered the Thursday special, jambalaya with chicken and andouille sausage. Zataran's jambalaya mix from a box has superior taste than what was served to me. Also, the dish was served partly cold, with the rest barely warm. The chicken and sausage used has a very bland flavor, and seems of inferior quality than expected at a restaurant. The sausage was burnt, and the chicken tough and rubbery. Unacceptable for a hyped eatery in DC. If you want good jambalaya that's freshly made, I highly recommend Cheesecake Factory. It's a billion times better tasting and higher quality. On a positive note, the atmosphere and decor are both inviting and comfortable. The staff were friendly, helpful, and informative.

Visited early Saturday morning. Coffee was excellent and a good selection of breakfast bakery items. Lot's of table and sitting space inside and outside. Clean restrooms and trendy interior design. The servers were friendly and helpful. The only major issue I had was the internet. It wasn't working. The staff insisted it was operational but several customers reported it wasn't working. I've heard it is spotty at best and I suspect they switch it off on the weekends to keep folks moving on. They should just be upfront if this is the case and say no wireless.

Such a beautiful restaurant in a nice location, and not over crowded. Saw this place on the Washingtonian's best cheap eats and decided to give it a try. All of the employees were respectful and friendly. My boyfriend and I ordered 2 cups of gumbo, tater tots (that were really roasted red potatoes), biscuits and gravy (even though it was only one biscuit), and a beer. The biscuit and gravy was okay. The tater tots were subpar, they were kinda of cold. It was when we tried the gumbo that everything went left field. IT WAS HORRIBLE! I've visited New Orleans and this food was a slap in the face to New Orleans cuisine. There was no flavor, no love, and no warmth... the gumbo was cold and tasted like water. The cashier was very nice and gave us our money back for the gumbo, which I appreciate, but I'd never go back again. Nice employees, flavorless food.

Their cafe au laits, beignets, and atmosphere are all excellent, but all of the actual food I've had there is pretty unremarkable. If you douse the shrimp sandwich, gumbo, or biscuits in hot sauce they taste pretty good, but otherwise, there's not much flavor going on. Go there for the atmosphere.
