Top Spots to Eat Cajun Food in Philly | Eater Philly

"This popular tavern on Manayunk’s Main Street can be described as a local watering hole prime for watching sports and partaking in fantastic bar bites and seafood. The Cajun fried chicken salad, steamed crab legs, and Cajun fried po’ boy are must-try menu items if you’re looking for a true taste of southern comfort food." - George Banks-Weston

Stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon shortly after 4 PM. Old local / neighborhood bar and restaurant vibe. Waiter was very nice he was just not efficient / on top of things. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Buffalo wings are on the small side but cooked very well / crispy and the hot sauce was also very good. 3 crabs and fries for $15 is a great price. Crabs were cooked well / not over cooked and had just the right amount of old bay on them. Both the draft and bottled beer selection was limited I tried two drafts neither were good. Lines may need to be cleaned. All in all, good stop and we’ll be back.

Dive bar in a gross way. The whole place needs to be power washed from the inside out. Food (wings and a salad) were also pretty disappointing.

We went here on Halloween night for food and drinks! We seated ourselves outside at the benches. It was nice to have outdoor seating. They were having trivia inside for Thursday trivia night. We ordered a Wynnebaggo cocktail and it was good, but your traditional college bar served in a plastic cup. The boneless wings were good. The BBQ bacon burger was fine, but lacking something. The appetizer of cheese bacon fries was loaded with cheese and hard to get apart. I think I would have preferred ranch instead of sour cream on them. The waitress was great and helped us decide on food. They have an upstairs bar that holds like 500 people! Talked to the owners at the door and inside by the stairs, nice people!

20/10 The service was super awesome. They don’t open until 4pm but allowed me to enter and buy a drink while they finish setting up. The drinks were great the food was delicious. The service was so good I just have to mention it again 🥰😍😘 Suri (I hope I spelled that right) she was so nice and kept checking on us. Happy hour is 4-7 and definitely worth it. You can not go wrong with $0.25 ( YES 25 CENTS) wings 🤤🤤🤤 Nice atmosphere outside and inside.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Joey the Bartender is the Bayou’s Best Kept Secret! Stopped into The Bayou in Manayunk and had the pleasure of being served by Joey—and let me tell you, he understood the assignment. Not only was his energy top-tier, but he crafted a shot on the spot called the Bubblegum Shot that was so delicious it deserves a permanent spot on the menu. Like seriously—why isn’t this making the business money already? Joey’s mixology skills are only matched by his incredible service. He made us feel welcome, hyped, and genuinely taken care of. It’s the kind of experience that doesn’t just make you want another drink—it makes you want to come back again and again. That shot? A 10/10. That service? Unforgettable. We’ll be returning just for Joey. Get that Bubblegum Shot on the menu, Bayou!

First time visit a couple of weeks ago for Friday happy hour. We checked out the inside to decide if we wanted to sit in there or outside - typically local bar/pub feel with high tops and long bar seating, tvs around the bar area, etc. Because the weather was ok, we decided to sit outside at the wooden tables. We're helped immediately and given the run down on the happy hour specials, which is the reason we came there. Long Island were one of the drinks so we both got that in a strawberry flavor for the first round, a long with some tequila shots. Long Islands were STRONG and mixed very well for the strawberry round we had - we eventually ordered a second round of regular Long Islands that were also made well. Food wise, we initially ordered Mozzarella Sticks, Mac & Cheese Bites and Buffalo Shrimp. Least favorite was the Mac and Cheese Bites - thinking if there was a different sauce pairing then what it came with (tasted like honey mustard) if would've probably been better. Our favorite was the Buffalo Shrimp - it tasted so good! Saucy but not too much, good taste to the sauce - I don't think every buffalo sauce tastes the same - nice crunch to it, good size like jumbo shrimp and good portion on the app. We liked them so much we ordered another basket of them lol. The Mozzarella Sticks were also really good - crispy, tasty and also good portion for an appetizer. Liked the place that's a good happy hour and game watch place. Plan to check them out again.

Came here for happy hour. Good prices and drinks. We also got the Bubble gum shot from Joey. It was amazing! Def will make this a regular stop when we are in Manayunk

Google
A home away from home for Commanders fans living in Philadelphia. Old Bay is featured heavily on the menu, as it should be. They easily accommodated our walk in party of 14 and put up with us playing "Hail To The Redskins" on the jukebox repeatedly. *To the couple Commanders fans who left negative reviews, that's not cool and you're missing the joke.*

Yelp
Great spot centrally located in Manayunk.. great vibe very good food and service. Pitt is an awesome bartender one of the best in the city. Highly recommended for a game or a night out

Yelp
It's been awhile since we've been and I was so excited because I love blue crabs unfortunately I was kind of disappointed. I'm not sure why but most of the crabs were empty like void of meat. We ordered 9 crabs and 3 of them were mushy. I hate to write this because we used to love this place, maybe it's too early in the season for the crabs. My husband and son also had burgers and liked them, my drink was good. I'm sure I'll go back but maybe not for crabs.

Yelp
This bar is located in Manayunk. Great place to watch the game and grab some good well done wings. This place gives a dive bar type of feel. The bartender Janey super sweet and nice. I appreciate seeing a familiar face when I visit places and she remembered me from the last football game. This place isn't fancy however the atmosphere is relaxed and those that visit this bar are usually friendly. A great social atmosphere overall.

Yelp
Me and my date was going to the cactus bar next door but for some reason my dumbass suggested the bayou so we went in. Nice place, the two girls working were inattentive to the customers and inexperienced in the bar field. My burger was flatter than a fucking pancake. Like they smashed a small meatball to fit a burger bun. The wings were not desirable at all, and they offer butterfly shrimp which frozen breaded shrimp from aldis or save a lot. Either way, they and everything else tasted bad. They charged me for the food but I feel like they should have paid me to eat it. My date was mad I brought her here so she stole my wallet and left me and said see you when you make it home. Fuck you bayou
google avatar

Kev H.

Yelp
Lazy attempt at "honey mustard wings" and the wings are basically pigeon wings. Idk if they only $.025 very very mid. Also waitress was inattentive - heard bartender call out my drink and took for me to ask her "can I have my drinks?!" After our pigeon wings already came out. Trash. Won't be back.
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by their best of Philly wings branding, as others have mentioned they are pathetically small. I questioned the wings size and was told "I saw smaller in Disney a few years back." Yea ok never again for me.

Yelp
A good ol Manayunk staple. Stopped in for "happy hour" on a Thursday. To cut straight to it: happy hour only consists of appetizers, not drinks. So keep that in mind (unless the guy was just lying to be lying). Walked in, the bar completely empty and dark like it was closed. Can't lie I wasn't feeling the vibes man. I ordered a Tokyo Tea and my lady had the Blue Horizon. That Tokyo Tea was well poured and that Blue Horizon was wateryyyyyy. Either way, I won't be back unless I want some fried food for half off.

Yelp
We went for their $0.25 cent wing deal (Monday/Tuesday). This comes with a few stipulations - you must order a drink (soda or alcoholic beverage- our beers were $7 each), order 10 wings per flavor, and any ranch/bleu cheese is extra. Happy hour also does not happen on these nights. Overall you really can't beat the price as it is so cheap! Although if you didn't want a drink this would add to the cost. Unfortunately the wings are fairly small. I normally am someone who can barely finish an order of 10 wings and I ate about 15. The sauces are nothing special were just poured over the wings. We got an order of fries with a side of cheese. Fries were crispy, but not well seasoned and cheese sauce did not taste great. Portion of fries is definitely small for the $7 price tag. Overall if you want quantity over quality this place meets the bill! Otherwise, there are definitely better wing spots in Philly.

Yelp
Went for wing night, (Monday) because the wings are .25 cent each, but you have to get 10... I ordered hot, old bay and bbq wings. All were over cooked and dry. Wings were tiny but that was okay for me because I don't like big wings. We ordered a Tokyo Tea and purple haze drink. Both were watered down, I could not taste any alcohol. The service was very basic. We waited in line for an hour before we could be seated. But the servers s were friendly. They were short on staff so I guess that explained the wait for drinks and food. It pretty small inside so I wouldn't suggest large groups. It's more of a place to go to after work and get a beer if that's what you're into. They also said they have $20 crab night on Wednesday.

Arutyun T.

Yelp
Not friendly for all sports fans. Food and drinks suck and dirty environment. ....................

Yelp
Great bar. It was dead in there since everyone was next door that is owned by the same people. Info we got from the very nice bartender. She was nice and made a very nice drink. Felt bad since she was running next door for beers/food. They should build a door in between if that's the case. Plus the cook wasn't there that day to make their food. We liked it though.

John C.

Yelp
Worse service ever. Inflated l prices on alcohol and food. Poor, rude staff, if they had 0 stars, I would give them a 0 long lines, long wait time. Recommend that nobody goes to this terrible, terrible bar

Karleigh S.

Yelp
This bar was recommended to me by a few people so a few friends and i decided to go. At the door they scan your ID. But.... Not only do they ask for ID BUT THEY ASK FOR A SECOND FORM OF ID. Do NOT go here unless you actively carry around multiple forms of ID. (Which 90% of people don't... because when you decide to go out drinking you bring as little with you as possible because this is Philadelphia and you cant trust anyone) Considering my lack of second ID, I guess I'll start carrying my f****** birth certificate on me, then send this bar the $30 bill to have it replaced. Most ridiculous policy I have ever heard of.

Matt L.

Yelp
Great wings and good beer selection. Make sure to check out their daily specials. Bartenders are very nice and more than happy to get you what you need - just ask if there's something on the menu that you don't see like an espresso martini and they'll be more than happy to get it for you. Excellent margaritas too. Cool vibe.

MaryJane S.

Yelp
Lizzie was very rude and demanding. Her attitude left much to be desired. The food is amazing and the employees were great, except for Lizzie. Lizzie is the reason I will not be back.

Yelp
This place used to be great. Had great food with a fantastic atmosphere. It now has a menu that originates from a freezer. None of the great food items are available. The place looks like it has not been cleaned. The service is nonexistent. I actually saw a female bartender directly pouring full bottles of liquor into staff members' mouths. Which I'm sure is a health violation! Best advice: Don't even give them a chance. Too many other options.

Michelle S.

Yelp
very rude staff. Tried to take a friend here for his 21st birthday. The bouncer rejected his very authentic and real driver's license. Embarrassed him in front of our whole friends group. We took our business elsewhere and will never go back.

Brianna M.

Yelp
I was at Bayou on Friday for dinner and had Sky as my server. She was on top of everything and super friendly the entire time. And made us come back later that night. Overall, I would recommend going to Bayou for both a dinner with friends or a night out! It's a great time with an amazing staff.

Nigel T.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of experiencing The Bayou thanks to my good friend, and even greater chef, Cliff. I remember he made me a chicken melt wrap, and I'm not gonna lie that wrap had me dying it was so good, I was shaking my head like it was a shame it was so good, Cliff and Bayou got something good going for real.

Yelp
First time to Bayou, exceptional service at the bar from Julia, very friendly and attentive, I look forward to going back & and highly recommend

Yelp
went there for happy hour and was charged full price... didn't realize you had to ask for the cheaper option

Yelp
Trying to find something good to say about this place -- the food was edible and the music was decent. Other than that, though, it was one disappointment after another. We came for Quizzo after seeing it advertised on their instagram (Wednesdays at 9) but called Wednesday afternoon to make sure it was still going on because, yknow, stuff happens. The confused-sounding man who answered the phone said "9, no, 9:30, no, 9...how many people are you with?" Anyway, 9-9:30ish. Sounds good. We (five of us) get there around quarter to 9. There's a sign outside on the sidewalk advertising Quizzo at 9! We go inside and see a pretty much empty bar. Alright. No big deal, Wednesday isn't crazy for the bars anyway. "We're here for Quizzo," one of my friends says. "It's at 10:30," says the man behind the bar, who ended up being our server. Oh. Okay. So we're sat right in front of the big window in the front. The table and everything on it was sticky. We order some food -- fries, a BBQ chicken pizza, and, after hearing about some "burger special," one of those. And we wait. And we wait. And after about 40 minutes we get the fries. They're mediocre at best. Cajun fries have almost no flavor. Old Bay ones are alright and pretty decent dipped in cheese. Burger was a straight up plain burger. Like something from a school lunch. Top bun was cold like it had just been tossed into the little basket. Fries were very bland. Honestly, everything was, but I was hungry so it worked. And 10:30 rolls around and the place is pretty empty and our server is nowhere to be found (I think we saw him two times in total to begin with) and we asked someone else if Quizzo was going on, and he said that he wasn't sure and he didn't even have questions to ask and there didn't seem to be enough people in the place to hold it anyway. So...things happen, yeah, but it would've been nice to know from the beginning that Quizzo was dependent on having a pretty full place. Then we might not have stayed there for ~2 hours (not counting the time we waited around for our server to come back and then to bring the check, which took a while too and, like I said, the place was pretty empty). I like to think I'm a pretty patient and more or less reasonable person...I get that nobody's perfect and no place can have it all, but it would've been nice if the food was more than halfway decent, if there was some decent communication regarding the Quizzo (in the four or five places it was posted/talked about), if the server was moderately available, if the bathroom door locked...you get the idea. Overall consensus: we would not come back. Too many other places to play Quizzo in the area.

Yelp
Ended up coming here Saturday for a quick drink - it's your typical dive bar. At first, they didn't have the NBA playoff game playing but they quickly changed it once we requested it. Lucky for us, there were 2 Miller Lite reps that were trying to get people to sign up for a raffle to win a grill, fanny pack, etc - you just had to upload a picture to your Instagram story with the hashtag, #millerlitemoment. One of the reps gave us free koozies and a free Millers can too - can't complain about free beer! The rep was super nice and even gave us a fanny pack that had a beer holder in case we didn't win anything! Unfortunately, I didn't win the grand prize but had a great time regardless.

Yelp
Let me tell you... that bartender Melina, she is top tier! She really knows how to make the customer feel welcomed and understands you. I have always gone to Bayou and everytime have been greeted and served by the one and only Melina. If it weren't for her positive attitude and absolutely hysterical conversations idk if I would be at Bayou as much as I have been. This girl deserves everything the world can grant her. Absolutely top tier service and she even mentioned a special that's very specialized!! 11/10 Service!!

J S.

Yelp
Called about taking my nephew in for wing night but was told he couldn't go unless parent was present as I'm 30 that was pretty laughable. Not the first time place gave off weird vibes and the guy that's normally behind the bar with the glasses is usually a dick.

Andrew F.

Yelp
Great place. Love the food and staff but Pat Shep is an exceptional bartender. His passion really brings out the best in everyone around him. Wings are the bomb

Marcus D.

Yelp
Ethan was an all around great bartender for us. Made our drinks swiftly and tastefully!

Carley S.

Yelp
Kevin was amazing - will definitely come back. We walked in pretty late and he served us quickly.

Michael A.

Yelp
Alright listen. So, I tried out grub hub for the first time tonight and got food from the Bayou. The order was wrong. There was a hamburger with bleu cheese that exceeded expectations. There was a side. But the wing were missing, and waffle fries came instead. I called. The kitchen was closed. The owner talked to me, and I might have been a difficult customer at that point, and he made wings and brought them to me and they are the best wings I've had since I can remember. So, a rave for the Bayou, food and service are tops.

John K.

Yelp
My leg fell off at bayou (la roca food made my leg fall off) and Pat Shep came out and sewed it back on. Had some $.50 wings afterwards, and was charmed by the affable Pat Shep! Pat Shep is the reason I go to bayou now. Pat Shep is one of the top 5 most enjoyable people to be around in manayunk. He once told me my shirt was cool and that made my night. What else can I say! Great food, great service, and a world of a bartender. Pat Shep is like if Jesus and backflips had a billionaire child made out of pure style and swagger. 10/10. If there were a hundred stars on yelp id rate bayou 101

Drew L.

Yelp
The one bartender who introduced himself to me as Cheddy but his real name is Patrick Shepard was phenomenal. Great service and great energy

John M.

Yelp
Great place with a great environment. I met patrick sheppard there and he was the best! Great energy!

Joseph J.

Yelp
Pat Shep is an amazing bartender. He makes sure to constantly check on everyone that's drinking at the bar, never on his phone while working, and socializing with anyone and everyone that comes in and sits down. He makes sure that everyone is feeling welcomed and treated like family instead of customers

Julia S.

Yelp
I love coming here for the game and the food is amazing! $0.25 wings are the best. Vienna is my favorite bartender
google avatar

Jon W.

Yelp
I get it. COVID hit the restaurant industry like punch to the face. Limited menus, longer wait times, short on staff ....I get it. I appreciate the people that are working and try to take extra care of them, especially now. But, if you haven't been doing specials that are on your own website for over a year and still haven't had a chance to update it, then shame on you. I came specifically for the 50 cent wings. I went out of my way to get here. I certainly didn't come for the atmosphere of this dive joint. Update your website and act like a big boy! Wings were the right size, hot and crispy. The sauce was horrendous.
google avatar

Tammy M.

Yelp
Spare yourself the pain and go somewhere else. It's a dive but it was about the only thing open when we went. Service was slow - very slow and to be fair, many restaurants are struggling with this right now. They have a few tables out front if you want to sit outside or you can go inside and sit under the air conditioner blasting down on your table. Their menu says that their wings are award-winning. I'm not a wing person but my husband is and he wasn't having that story. Lots of fries on the plates. There are tvs if you want to watch a game which is probably why people go here. Also, I tried to order spiced crabs and they didn't have any.
google avatar

Nathalie R.

Yelp
The food took forever to come out but I gotta say it was worth the wait! The cornbread is so good you'll forget whatever else you ordered. Great vegetarian options on the menu, so that was great for some of my companions. I got the chicken and waffles. It was wonderful. The staff was friendly and attentive. Very nice experience. Highly recommend.

Gordon S.

Yelp
Service incredible. The bartender Melina always made sure me and my friends were taken care of. We went after the kitchen closed so we only got drinks, but the drinks were great and everything we were looking for. Great beer selection, and the mixed drinks weren't too strong or too weak. Great after hours spot to come with friends. Would totally recommend to anyone.

Larson K.

Yelp
I had a amazing time at the bayou this evening after touring around to different attractions in Philadelphia being on vacation I was looking for a place to meet some new people and have a great time and this place exceeded my expectations! My waitress melina was more then I could of asked for, she was helpful with different drinks I should try throughout the night along with offering me her services! All and all the experience was a 10/10 and a +2

cade g.

Yelp
Great place, great staff, reasonable prices for food and drinks! My favorite part about the place is the bartender Melina she makes the best Winkler shots!

Erin F.

Yelp
Love this place! Great food and great drinksssss!!! Melina the bartender is the best!!!!!!!!
google avatar

Hanaa H.

Yelp
False advertising of portions. Food was disgusting. Poorly packaged. Probably, a health code violation. Over priced for what I paid, and what I actually recieved was way ridiculos. I would not recommend to anyone. My 3 year old wouldn't even eat it, and she called it dirty.

Yelp
The Bayou Bar & Grill is an inexpensive place to start - or end - your night, and they offer amazingly generous happy hour specials. This Manayunk bar is casual (a few folks were wearing sandals), clean[1], and comfortable (it's not divey, but it doesn't try to be anything special). There's room for a decent crowd: we're talking front and rear areas on two floors, complete with table and booth seating. Numerous TV screens let you watch the game du jour and participate in video Quizzo, a nice touch. Rub elbows with a younger mix of local girls and guys, with room to navigate. Friends invited me here to support a charity fundraiser. Two friends were guest bartending, working side-by-side with the resident staff, taking orders and pouring drinks. All the bartenders were courteous, and the bouncer was friendly! We started with shots of Black Haus, then I was offered the house's special shot, the Green Gator. Surprisingly refreshing, with a hint of pineapple, each shot brought a smile to my face. See you at the Bayou! I'll return for their crab leg special, and for more Green Gator shots... [1] Towards midnight, one bathroom smelled absolutely wretched, but you're not spending quality time in there, right? Nothing some industrial air freshener can't fix.
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
I keep looking at my previous reviews for the Bayou and think I need to say more. The place is a solid bar, especially for Main Street. No, you aren't going to stay here all night on a Friday or Saturday night, but it is more than happy to help get your evening started or to serve as a place to hang on a low key weeknight. Monday and Tuesdays it has wing specials. Wednesdays a great deal on a Roast Beef sandwich, and Thursdays a good deal on a Meatball sandwich. Oh, and the $1 you call it Happy Hours on Fridays... I did say it was a great way to kick off the evening, didn't I?
google avatar

Tyneisha M.

Yelp
Came here for a fantasy football league day and had a nice time. While the main floor was crowded we ventured upstairs and were pleasantly surprised. There was plenty of space for us to have a seat and order drinks and food from the bar. The bartender was nice and it felt like we had our own private area. We watched the Eagles game in peace and opted to order a pizza, fries and wings as well as some drinks. The pizza was nothing special but for $5 you get what you pay for. It was the Sunday special. Overall this was a nice chill spot with decent specials. I'd come back.
google avatar

TJ P.

Yelp
Great little neighborhood dive bar on Main St that offers tasty food! The wings may be the best in the hood and the service is friendly. They offer some great deals throughout the week which we found on the website. Cold beer, tasty food, outdoor seating. Yes please! We will be back, cheers
google avatar

Tye T.

Yelp
Not a bad spot. Monday & Tuesday is .25 wing night. However it's only 2 flavor options mild and hot for the special. If you check in through yelp you get a free app so of course I checked in lol. The wings were decent crispy and good flavor. I would probably come back again on a Monday or Tuesday.

Yelp
Really great fries and food! staff is very nice and sweet, great conversation. Boneless spicy garlic wings are the way to go! doesn't get too crowded and fun! Joe was very nice and helpful
