I'll start with the good.
The food is absolutely delicious, period! The fish and grits were a 10/10. However, the portion of grits was very small, which left me hungry.
My husband ordered the French toast, and it was perfect.
Unfortunately we didn't eat until about 45 minutes after being seated.
Now, the reason for the three-star rating. I really tried to see the good in this place and exercised a lot of patience, but the service put a damper on the experience. From the moment we walked in, it was clear they were disorganized. There was no hostess, so all three staff members working the floor asked if we had been helped. The 20-minute wait was fine, but once we were seated, service continued to struggle.
It took about 15 minutes before we even received menus, and we noticed the same happening to other tables. Our waitress only took drink orders about 25 minutes in, and by that point, we were starving. I understand it was busy, but guests should be able to order food when they're ready.
We ordered a pitcher of Marcus Garvey (half iced tea half lemonade) which was definitely a premix and overly sweet. When the drink pitcher arrived, we struggled to pour it because of the fruit and mint blocking the spout. Actually, the waitress tried to pour it first and couldn't but offered us no solution lol!!
That's when we realized we didn't have cutlery (we had been seated nearly 30 minutes now) and had to maneuver the contents just to get an effective pour. When we got the cutlery it came on a plate with a single napkin for us to share.
These little inconveniences added up. I think they need another server or a hostess, and some staff training. Everyone was very pleasant and seemed to be working hard, but they were all doing the same tasks and repeatedly asking us the same questions.
