My third review update?! Wow. Time is really piling on to that first review I wrote way back in 2015 when this place felt so new to me. Right now, BBQ Joe's is offering take-out/drive-thru at the window while our area confronts the Coronavirus health crisis. I have not been over yet since that change was made, but I did eat there most recently about a week or two before it happened.
The great news, this is still absolutely one of the best places to get BBQ in the entire Triad, including the Lexington area. They are also still serving up some mighty mean breakfast, including some biscuits that is they were not in the same town as Biscuit Factory, would probably be the best around in any other town. One thing they do have that BFAC does not is superior hash browns, the home fries kind. Delicious and crispy little nuggets, and I recommend you eat them with their SC style mustard sauce.
But what you are coming here for is the Q right? Well they are one of the few places in this area that also do brisket, and for me, that is still the money maker here. The pulled pork is outstanding, but their brisket really is an excellent cut with plenty of smokey flavor. I like to keep it simple with sliced brisket, cole slaw, and some of their top notch hushpuppies. If I am feeling really hungry though I get "The Joe" which they advertise as the largest BBQ sandwich in the area. It definitely is that! The sandwich is so large and overflowing with Q and slaw that you really can't pick it up and eat it that way... but that's alright. Grab your fork and use the texas toast for mop up duty!
One thing that is underrated here is their "Hot Sauce" which is a bit of a misnomer. It's not like a sriracha or cholula, or Texas Pete (also available). It is more of a pepper sauce. Thinner than the Joe sauce, less sweet, lots of spices. You can see the granules of all the pepper as you pour it. It is so good, I usually buy a bottle of it to go to put on my meats at home! It is the top-dog compliment to the brisket, but can be applied to any meat, even a good all-the-way hot dog!
Anyway, I've rambled long enough. BBQ Joe's is a must-stop spot for anyone visiting the area, particularly if it is for Furniture Market. If you're just driving through, they also have a location in Trinity right off the highway! Either way, get you some Joes!
