A U District Street Food Festival Is Offering $5 Bites | Eater Seattle

"During the U District Chow Down & Street Party BB's Teriyaki Grill is offering chicken teriyaki as one of the $5 “bites,” making it an affordable grab amid the festival’s cheap-food focus." - Harry Cheadle

Google
Quick easy food right on the street. Food was good but somehow the Diet Coke was the best thing. The tables were all dirty so had to sit at a sticky table. Caters to the college community.

Paku

Google
The food was good overall, but if you're expecting a traditional teriyaki flavor, this might not be the spot for you. The chicken was on the sweeter side, with a hint of Latin-inspired seasoning. Just not what you'd expect from classic teriyaki

MSW

Google
U District teriyaki place fast and great. Seemed popular with the student crowd. Seattle is a teriyaki town and this spot is in the top shelf category. I've had most available in the area satisfying a 50 year habit, for basic fast quality chicken teriyaki, this is a great option.

FightingtoLIVE A.

Google
A worker with long hair that I’ve ran into here and at the 3rd ave location will give you the tiniest portions he can manage to get away with, Specifically with the brisket. This a technique for you to ask for extra so they can charge you extra money. Why I wrote the review.

Becca S.

Google
Good teriyaki, different from usual Seattle teriyaki, as it is more of a chipotle style of service. I like that you can choose rice and yakisoba and veggies along with the meat. The food tastes good and the service is nice, the price is reasonable, I do wish they served more chicken with the meal, but that is expected with the area. I will definitely go back if in the area.

Google
The BEST fresh offerings with generous portions. I typically get chicken with their vegetables: broccoli, cucumber salad & cabbage salad. The sauce is not too sweet, just right! The music is a great mix, something different every time I have visited. The restaurant and bathrooms are always clean. There is a limited menu with a lot of options, which I like. Choose your sides, protein, & sauce. It’s simple. For the visually impaired, there is no braille menu and the music can be a bit loud to hear the options when read to you. The restaurant is organized in aisles. Cane users should be able to find a seat relatively well. low vision guests may appreciate the high contrast of the black table tops with the white containers/utensils and the orange chairs. Bonus: everything is compostable!

Google
I love this place. I come here at least 3-4 times a week. I don’t know of any other places that prepare your food as quickly and it is delicious and reasonably priced. As a vegetarian they provide excellent options as well. I’d give them more stars if I could

Google
BB's is my favorite restaurant on the Ave! Service is friendly but fast, menu is simple, food is good (especially the mixed green salad), and all the containers and utensils are compostable.

Yelp
Bb's is a go to anytime I'm in the U district. Consistently delicious and hearty portions for the price. Good staff and cool open air seating.

Yelp
Great spot for a quick meal! The portions are generous and the sides are actually decently flavored. However, I got the spicy chicken and it wasn't really spicy, I thought they could have added more heat. The service is similar to Chipotle, and goes pretty smoothly. There is seating inside but also outside overlooking the ave if you're into eating al fresco.

Yelp
This place was super good and did not disappoint. The location is perfect and the inside was welcoming and super clean. My friend took me here this weekend and said it was the best teriyaki and the best bang for your buck. The service was super good they hooked it up and gave for good portion sizes, the food it's self was really good, they put a regular sauce and a spicy sauce on top that was just right. I will definitely be returning here and recommend it to anyone I know.

Yelp
The beef Teriyaki was hard and dry. A good teriyaki sauce has a balance of sweet and automatic. The smoky salty flavor of the soy sauce should complement the garlic and ginger flavor in the marinade.. The teriyaki sauce was so sweet It tasted like corn syrup.. also the price on the menu does not reflect what is on yelp. I was also charged for double the meat which I did not ask for. Overall, if you're craving teriyaki and one large portions, this place is not bad.

Yelp
A pretty good post workout meal spot. The chicken is tender and seasoned well. But the rice is too sticky and the chow mein is pretty bland.

Yelp
The second I walked in it smelled like burning eggs. My teriyaki was bland and they definitely use Minute made rice on top of that the salad tasted rotten

Yelp
Service is always good, ambiance is nice and I appreciate the holiday decorations. Food is always pleasing, good customization choices. Portions are also good for the price as well. A great teriyaki spot overall.

Yelp
Solid Seattle teriyaki place. For 13 dollars the portion is large and always filling. The service is fast and the restaurant is clean. Their tofu is good and their veggies are fine. A good spot to grab a quick lunch.

Yelp
Okay, this is my 2nd review here. I thought I'd try something different this time around. So instead of my regular of chicken teriyaki, I heard they offered brisket. Wait, what??? Yes please!! And it was stellar! Holy moley, it was so good! Portion was big, and it was just absolutely delicious, very unexpected in a good way. You've gotta try it if you like beef. Best meat I've ever had on any teriyaki ever! Definitely coming back for THAT!!!

Rachel W.

Yelp
Food was very low quality. Noodles and vegetable stir fry were barely warm which raises a food safety concern. Nothing is fresh and is all premade. I tossed my meal after a couple bites. I ordered a tofu teriyaki and the teriyaki sauce was very runny and not sweet at all. Very flavorless. I went around 6:20 and there were very few customers which raises a red flag. Don't waste your money here, go anywhere else.

Yelp
This place was a lil dirty. But maybe that's due to the college clientele. Great prices and portions.

Yelp
The food is delicious and flavorful. The servers were nice and kind when making my order. They also did not skimp on the portions. They gave the right amount of food. The space was clean. I highly recommend as a visiting athlete only in town for competition

Yelp
I'm a fan! While it isn't necessarily in my diet to be eating teriyaki, I was craving it! So glad they are still open during this "mess." The portion size is HUGE. Plenty for two meals even though I nearly devoured the whole thing. The spicy chicken had great flavor. The only thing I should have been more cognizant of was the amount of sauce coming off of it...fine if you order rice...not if it's sitting on top of my salad. Oh well. I'll ask for it on the side next time. I enjoy that the menu is straight forward and somewhat simple, but there are options to suit your needs. I got the salad and veggies as my two sides. They were decent; nothing crazy...the chicken is definitely the star of the show. I'll return and try another protein next time around. Decently healthy option in the U for a decent price!

Yelp
Note that this BB's Teriyaki location IS OPEN for TAKEOUT, DELIVERY, & DINE-IN during COVID. BB's Teriyaki is one of my boyfriend's favorite places to eat on The Ave. The quantity for the price can't be beat, although I think they increased their prices slightly cause I paid $11 instead of $9 a year ago. I came here with him this past week for his birthday. He ordered chicken with yakisoba, rice, and broccoli. I ordered tofu with brown rice and broccoli. I probably should've chosen a third side instead because they gave me a LOT of broccoli and rice. The tofu itself was good, but I felt like the sauce was still a little too dilute for my taste. BB's has limited outdoor seating, but we sat outside to eat since I don't feel comfortable eating inside with covid going around. Service was quick as usual and the servers were friendly. The servers were wearing masks and gloves. The payment is no contact minus clicking to add a tip. They also have a hand sanitizer dispenser on the wall. Overall: 3/5 for food, 4/5 for service, 5/5 for health and safety standards

Nathan L.

Yelp
We've been here a few times and food is not bad. My partner and I ordered the same exact thing (spicy chicken teriyaki with yakisoba and green salad). For someone reason portion size and consistency seems to be different based of the employee. Y'all really need to be consistent with the portion sizes because it isn't equal. If we're paying the same price for the same exact food why are yall giving different portion sizes? We also said we're paying together twice and neither of those times did the employee catch that.

Yelp
Great customer service in all aspects! They were so nice and had everything for my team lunch. Serving spoons, tongs, plates, napkins ansqueeze bottle sauces! Food was amazing and a big hit!! Loved everything!! Highly recommend if you want amazing food, easy pick up and smooth event..

Yelp
Throughly surprised by this last minute find! Menu is super simple yet customizable. The BYO is an ample amount of food for a good price.

Yelp
New favorite teriyaki place on the ave... BB's has huge portions, really fresh tasting, lots of mix and match options, reasonably priced, and friendly service- whats not to like? Ordered: - Chicken Teriyaki and Tofu Teriyaki - Stir Fry Vegetables - 1/2 Salad 1/2 Rice (they give a tonnnn of rice!) - Cabbage Salad I will definitely come back to BB's and highly recommend (PS. if you like the Coke Remix machine... they have that too!)

Yelp
First of all we ordered from BB's Teriyaki Grill yesterday for lunch. It was delivered by DoorDash. That delivery should be really easy cause the restaurant is about 2 to 3 blocks away from us. So Yes I had DoorDash to deliver them cause it was convenient. But anyway when that order was delivered, the delivery person delivered to the wrong place and when I got the text with the pico, I said this isn't where we woo. So texted back to the delivery person and then call that person with the correct address. The person finally delivered that food, but by that time them food isn't warm anymore. He claimed that that DoorDash had a glitch. But as for BB's Teriyaki's. We ordered (3) teriyaki chicken with some are spicy and some are regular. I also ordered a gyoza . To me gyoza should be grill and Not steam . Very disappointed on that. I had re heat them food cause it got cold. I think overall all food was ok, but delivery was very poor.

Yelp
This is a very nice teriyaki place. These are generally almost like a chain--similar menus with similar tastes. This is better than average. I just had the regular chicken teriyaki. The chicken was cooked very good, with just that flavor you are seeking. The white rice was very good also. It was a good value overall and definitely worth a visit.

Steve K.

Yelp
They barely give any chicken. 3-4 years ago they used to give way more. For $13, seems like a rip off. Can't they just give less rice and more chicken? Doesn't seem like rocket science
google avatar

Venecia R.

Yelp
The portions here and massive and worth the $10 + tax that they charge. The food was flavorful and filling, it doesn't get 5 stars because it made my stomach hurt. I don't know what it was because I enjoyed my meal - ate it all, maybes that why? LOL. But this was good especially for the price in the area, I think I would've enjoyed more of a char on the chicken but that's just a preference. Friendly and fast service! :)
google avatar

Yikhwan D.

Yelp
BB's Teriyaki is like the Subway of Teriyaki. You walk in and pick what you want as they scoop out the food in front of you onto your plate. You pick the carb type, meat, salad or side dishes and pay at the end. They typically have everything out already so the line gets moving pretty quick and their food is ok. My only negative feedback is that my friend and I got the same thing, but the portion size of our food was significantly different. The cook was the one who was scooping my food, and was pretty rude and skimpy on the portion size. My friend's server gave my friend much more generous portions.
google avatar

Jesus R.

Yelp
I ordered my food online and it was ready for pick up as soon as I came in. The service is very good and the staff is friendly. The food itself is great - although I'd prefer a little more sauce on the chicken. I genuinely enjoyed it.
google avatar

Yelp
Every time I want to have beef but don't want to cook it myself, this place is my first choice! I am a huge fan of their brisket! Well it is a little bit salty for today's dish. But the flavor was great! And their brown rice was also good, some sort of chewy, but also soft! The spicy chicken was not that spicy, actually I think the flavor is more inclined to teriyaki with sweetness! But the spicy sauce was nice, love it! Please try their cabbage salad, it is really appetizing! All their sauces mixed together and mixed with rice, I would not regret walking for almost 20 mins to here to have such a bite! 4.5 / 5 for taste 3 / 5 for service Love it!

Yelp
Note: This review is for the Smokey Point, Wa location. It doesn't seem they have added this location to Yelp since it's so new. After reviewing the menu, I decided to stop in to give it a shot as it seemed a variation from the typical teriyaki spot. It was very clean upon walking in. The menu is pretty simple. To choose your order, you select from pre-made options such as veggies, rice, noodles, proteins, and sauces. It is much akin to the Chipotle restaurant set up. I opted for brown rice, double veggie stir fry , and shredded pork with teriyaki sauce. They did have a spicy sauce option as well. Beef brisket and chicken were the other protein options however, they both looked a bit dry for me. All the food was uncovered which may be leading to loss of moisture. They assembled the pork on top of the rice with the veggies on the side. They poured the sauce over top of the rice and pork. Next time I will add extra sauce and have it poured over the veggies as well for extra flavor. The pork was really moist and tender, a welcome surprise. The veggies were okay, sauce over top would have made them better. Overall, the food was pretty good and a I will be back to try the brisket and the chicken. I did give bonus points for the compostable packaging. I hate styrofoam which is how typical joints like this serve food. The main reason for the rating is that the customer service was not great at all. The person taking my order didn't smile or even try to engage in any conversation. Her tone was also a bit rude when answering questions. It's a new place, people are going to have questions and ask for recommendations. They should be trained on how to respond. I almost rated it a three due to the poor service but will give benefit of the doubt this time. It may sway me to change my rating in future visits if not improved.

Yelp
Fairly priced and a lot of good food, my friends and I are rowers and we like to go after practice because it is fast, nutritious, and filling. love BB's
google avatar

Carolyn Z.

Yelp
i ordered the white rice, broccoli, and stir-fry veggies with regular chicken and regular sauce. the portion was pretty big, but it was definitely more expensive than i would have liked (around $14-15). the food wasn't bad, but i would rather go to sizzle and crunch for a $10 meal with more flavor and just as much food. overall i probably wouldn't go back as there are much better places nearby for cheaper prices.
google avatar

Britt H.

Yelp
The food here is tasteless and the customer service here needs a lot of improvement. I definitely don't recommend this place as I for sure won't be back here again.
google avatar

Jenny N.

Yelp
I wanted to love it, but I don't. My friend and I were going to take a trip up to Diablo Lake, and we decided to stop by the U-District and get some food before the 2 and a half hour drive. He got Veggie Grill, but I was craving teriyaki so I decided to look at places nearby. I saw that this place had a 4 star overall rating with mostly positive reviews, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered my food through Google (I believe it was through a partnership with Postmates). I placed an order for a teriyaki with rice, broccoli, and cabbage. The food was bland and dry. I placed my order, and a minute later it was ready for pickup. I'm not even joking. Take a look at the text notifications. This clearly means that their food isn't made to order, and is sitting in a warmer all day. I probably got served chicken that had been sitting out for awhile, because it was terribly dry and bland. The chicken was also cut very thinly in my opinion. The workers were friendly, so I'll give them a star for that. Overall, it was not worth paying $11.01 for. I took a couple of bites, and tossed the rest. You can see how bland it looks in the photo. Unfortunately, I will not be returning.
google avatar

Kristene S.

Yelp
They have some of the nicest workers! So sweet and each of them tried to get to know me. This place is like the chipotle of Asian teriyaki. You choose your base/sides: noodles, white or brown rice, yakisoba, veges, etc. For protein, you can get chicken or tofu of half half- I did half half and liked the chicken more but the tofu was pretty decent! I did brown rice, broccoli, and yakisoba with the half/half meat and regular teriyaki sauce. Very yummy and filled me up! Probably could have split it into 2 meals but I could take leftovers so I finished it :) about $8-9 so not a bad deal for what you get. Give this place a try!! Great for take out also.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm personally offended that this spot doesn't have a full 5 stars. ... Jokes aside, I love BB's. A friend of mine recommended this spot while we were walking down the Ave for dinner in between classes, and lemme tell you, I'm hooked. Chipotle-styled (which is actually where we were originally headed, haha!) teriyaki, with HUGE portions for 9$, and overall super tasty. My friend excitedly pointed out that the amount of food you get for your buck here was totally worth it, and let me tell you -- she was 100% right. I think as a student, it's important to find spots that can offer both delicious and affordable food, and I'd say that a SUPER bonus is being able to take home leftovers to suffice you for another meal later on. I was definitely excited to have leftovers for lunch the following day, and was still in awe that this was only for 9$! I ordered the spicy chicken teriyaki with roasted vegetables and mixed green salad. I think what really made me happy is that I could have a healthy meal if I really wanted to, and all for the same price! Additionally, I'd say the customer service also made me really happy, for the cashier was super friendly and attentive. I don't remember her name, but she was a lovely Latina woman & made my visit even more enjoyable. Overall, I definitely recommend BB's Teriyaki Grill if you're looking for an affordable and tasty spot for lunch/dinner while on the Ave. It's a new favorite for me for sure! :-)
google avatar

Ardo K.

Yelp
Small shop, but quite great food. Love the fact that they pay attention to environment sustainability. All their packaging are compostable. The food itself, they're good enough for the price point. You get a lot of portion. The yakisoba is just meh though, so, you'd probably best getting just rice, or some stir fry veggies (my favorite). The chicken itself is pretty tasty with the addition of the teriyaki sauce that they have.
google avatar

Julian S.

Yelp
FOOD: 3/5 VALUE: 3/5 Tastes like ordinary Seattle terriyaki to me! I got the spicy chicken with stir-fried veggies (looked like a bit of kale, a lot of onions, and some shredded carrots) and yakisoba. I think I got exactly what I paid for. Just under $10 for the just the amount of food I'd expect at $10. There's a lot of carbs in the box (they give you a decent amount of rice), but the chicken itself is portioned just enough to not be called stingy. There were a lot of smaller bits (not proper chunks of chicken), which I was not particularly fond of. If you're in line and the (presumed) proprietor serves you, you'll probably get a smaller portion -- just FYI. The students (presumed) serving here are more generous with portions.
google avatar

Matthew R.

Yelp
Good food at a good price point! If you are in the U-District area I would definitely stop here for a meal. I particularly liked how you can choose up to three sides.
google avatar

Megan R.

Yelp
We stopped here last night for a quick dinner. This is basically Chipotle but for teriyaki. You walk up and you pick the sides you want, then if you want regular or spicy chicken and then what sauce. Everything is premade and you just go down the line like you would at Chipotle. Was it the best? No but for fast food teriyaki I really had no complaints. $9 I got a very full meal (they aren't skimping over here) and I like the different side options. I just got spicy chicken teriyaki with steamed broccoli and their veggie stir fry. I was quite content and would come back again if I was looking for fast food teriyaki on the go. Also, service was very friendly.
google avatar

Danylo K.

Yelp
I was a lot of food... you get bang for your buck. If you are a college student want some dank and plentiful teriyaki I'd go here. We were so full after we ended up taking a large nap.
google avatar

Stephan B.

Yelp
I ended up here a 9PM because everything else was closed or closing in the neighborhood. The music so loud I could barely understand the person who was serving me. The teriyaki chicken and yakisoba are unimpressive and don't taste like much. The gioza are very disappointing. There so many better teriyaki place in the university district.
google avatar

Scott I.

Yelp
I was walking by this place at around 9pm and decided to give it a try. The menu is simple. I ended up getting chicken, rice, stirfy and broccoli. It was a lot of food for the price. Everything tasted great and I loved the teriyaki and stir fry vegetables. If you are in the u district give this place a shot!
google avatar

Priya S.

Yelp
ordered the chicken and rice teriyaki and was left a little disappointed. The flavors were quite underwhelming and I was left searching for more. Was honestly expecting more teriyaki. The service was fine though the food was just very mediocre and I probably wouldn't return.
google avatar

Robyn L.

Yelp
Quick service, this place reminds me of a chipotle for teriyaki. You can choose three base items (like rice, broccoli, noodles) and then choice of meat and what sauce. I chose rice and broccoli with chicken and both spicy and regular sauce. For like $10 it fed both my sister and I! The broccoli is just steamed, which is what I prefer but I know others might not like it. Will come back !

Shawn S.

Yelp
This is a solid lunch spot near UW. It is the ideal place for an affordable, healthy lunch. You can pick three sides and a protein. There are plenty of options. I would usually have either briskets or teriyaki chicken with no sauce as the protein, and brown rice, stir-fried veggies, and broccoli my three sides. Sometimes the line can get long at around noon and you might need to wait for 5 minutes. Their bags, utensils, and containers all seem to be compostable.
google avatar

Beulah C.

Yelp
RATING: 2.5/5 The food is decent, i ordered spicy chicken with yakisoba and mixed vegetables. The yakisoba....wtf even is it lol it tastes so weird. I wouldn't recommend the yakisoba. As far as the mixed vegetables go, they're just sautéed vegetables - nothing special whatsoever. The chicken is very inconsistent as i have been here a few times. The chicken can either be decent or just super dry and chewy... But the price is somewhat cheap so if you're looking for cheap teriyaki with low quality go here!
google avatar

Annie Z.

Yelp
Unpretentious spot to grab a quick, questionably healthy, and tasty lunch. I was going to go to Chipotle until I saw this and I'm so glad I changed plans! It's Chipotle-style, albeit with less customization, but I loaded up on veggies for the ~health~ and got spicy chicken teriyaki with both sauce options. The portions are HUGE and lasted me through two meals for $10. Sadly, the broccoli wasn't seasoned at all and the cabbage didn't hold onto the sauce of the teriyaki as well as rice would have. This definitely is a great option for a busy young adult in the UW area, and I'll be back again!
google avatar

CJ G.

Yelp
I was craving some teriyaki so I ordered food delivery from BB's. To be honest, I was disappointed. I got teriyaki chicken with 1/2 rice, 1/2 yakisoba, and veggies. Perhaps it's because of food delivery, the portion was really small comparing to what I saw in other reviews. The chicken and the rice were okay, but not so much the veggies or yakisoba. The veggies were unseasoned, which was fine with me, but I got a lot of big chunks of (bokchoy?) stem. One piece was even bitter and slimy (eww) when I bit into it so I had to spit it out. As for the yakisoba, it didn't seem fresh at all and had no flavor either. I ended up throwing away the veggies and yakisoba... I wouldn't recommend getting food delivered from this place. Perhaps it's better when you get it in person?

Yelp
I ate at the new location in Arlington on opening day. Amazing food. The taste was different than other places and it was delicious. Restaurant was clean, staff was very very friendly, service was quick and prices are reasonable! Highly recommend!!!

Abdullah A.

Yelp
I definitely give them props for innovation: the large space open to the Ave in the front, the big portions, the fancy soda machine, the "fast casual" spin on teriyaki. BB's Teriyaki lets you, for a fixed price, pick your choice of sides (white or brown rice, yakisoba, salad, coleslaw), in addition to your protein. I had the spicy chicken teriyaki with white rice, salad, and yakisoba. My first thought was "whoa this is a ton of food for under $10". However, my excitement was significantly dulled when I took a closer look at the contents and realized that my food was roughly 75% overcooked rice by mass. The chicken itself was scant, and of medium quality. Fast casual teriyaki is an intriguing idea, but unfortunately for BB's, the execution isn't quite there yet.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food! So much so that when my dog knocked the take out off the counter and ate ONLY the meat, I was thoroughly satisfied with the rice, yakisoba, and salad. Looking forward to actually being able to try my meal next time but my housemates agreed the food (and the meat) was fantastic !
