"COVID-19 update: Open for browsing. In a sprawling, white-washed space on Crosby Street, BDDW shows off Tyler Hays's genius. And what that manifests as is beautifully designed and hand-crafted furniture, ceramics, and rugs—all with a rustic yet pristine, modern feel. It's stunning, particularly in the way that it's presented in pretty suites throughout the labyrinthine space. Along with Hays's work, BDDW also carries a few other equally exquisite items like Lindsay Adelman's sculptural lighting and Kieran Kinsella ceramic side-tables. COVID-19 disclaimer: We are working hard to keep our listings as up to date as possible (deliveries, outdoor dining, etc.), but given the evolving nature of local COVID-19 restrictions, we recommend double-checking the information in this guide with any business you plan on visiting. Also, please note that we have not vetted any businesses listed within our guides for their compliance with applicable safety regulations."

BDDW, located in Soho, NYC, is a luxury furniture brand that creates unique and handcrafted pieces of furniture. Their collections feature a range of styles, from sleek and modern to rustic and eclectic. BDDW's pieces are made with high-quality materials, including solid wood and leather, and are designed to last for generations. The flagship store in Soho is a design-lover's dream, with multiple floors showcasing a wide variety of furniture pieces, lighting, and home accessories. Each item in the store is carefully curated and beautifully displayed, making it easy to visualize how the pieces would look in a home setting. In addition to its own furniture line, BDDW also carries other designer brands, providing customers with a comprehensive selection of high-end home furnishings. Fun fact: BDDW's founder, Tyler Hays, is not only a furniture designer but also a skilled woodworker and artist. In addition to furniture, he creates sculpture and installations using a variety of materials, including wood, metal, and glass. Hays' work has been featured in galleries and museums around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

What an amazing place! Such artistry and craftsmanship in one place, a visual feast for the eyes.

Tyler's showroom is a museum. The quality of craftsmanship of all pieces displayed are astonishing. It's such a fun and comfortable showroom to visit. Living nearby, I stopped in on a recent, cold Friday evening while a group of design students were visiting with their teacher as part of a classroom field trip. It's an inspirational space, even if affordability is not in question. It's truly a must visit for any design & art enthusiast...or just any human that aspires to having really lovely, hand-crafted items in the home. Don't be intimidated by the "cool" factor (it is cool...no question), or the prices. Just enjoy and talk to the kind folks in the showroom, too. Lots to see, learn and love.

Tyler and all the BDDW team produce the most spectacular products consistently and always both beautiful and superbly crafted. We have specified and purchased everything from the Lake Credenza, tripod lamp, leather dressers, custom sofas and dozens of ceramics over 20+ years....and every single purchase has been a pleasure. BDDW is "tomorrows antiques" and Tyler should be inducted in Cleveland! DH

This is where you go when you die and go to furniture heaven. BDDW is simply amazing. Hands down the most amazing pieces of furniture around. The store is stunning itself displaying all of these pieces as though they're works of art. This is obviously not the place you walk into looking for deals but boy is their furniture worth what it costs. The craftsmanship is fantastic and it's all Made in America.

Amazing vision, and grounded roots create a foundation for a forward looking company. Best quality, all hand made components in the Philadelphia PA eco friendly factory. Form follows function across Tyler’s vast line of products!! Bravo.

I came a long way from Germany to see and listen to those amazing Wheel-Fi speakers. Turned out all the other stuff was from a special kind of heaven, too. The folks there where super friendly, let me hang out and listen to Tom Waits on their amazing sound system. If I could, I would leave a ton of money there. Thank you so much!

Yelp
Claiming they aren't Pottery Barn, when they are styled like Pottery Barn is hilarious. Weak sauce.

Yelp
The absolute worst over-priced furniture buying experience I've had in NYC. You pay a premium price for custom furniture and finishes that can be found at a much lower price at a multitude of other vendors in NYC. And there's none of the BS attitude of the BDDW salespeople and ownership (he's an a**hole, trust me). If buying premium furniture look elsewhere. Brooklyn and greater New York has some of the finest craftspeople in the country. Avoid BDDW's poor service and BS.

Yelp
Bravo BDDW!  The SoHo showroom is a transformative space. This is one of those places I regularly visit to see what is new and influential. Natural materials / sleek lines / supreme craftspersonship, altogether make me feel one with the elements. Looking forward to the next visit.

Yelp
I recently came across this company and wanted to check out their products. I went to their website and noticed that not only were there no prices listed but they also did not mention if they had any authorized dealers. I emailed the company and their CEO sent me this reply which is a cut and past of his email. D..... you are so fucking weird! Everywhere, when you google BDDW, It says our address and phone number. We have ONE store, we don't list our prices, and we aren't the Pottery Barn. A phone number and location is clearly listed, if you call us, a real person from a small staff answers the phone. On second thought don't call. You have really really bizarre expectations. I'm sorry our lack of being everywhere offends you. Thanks for the laugh Tyler I was amazed to read the unprofessionalism in this email sent to me from their CEO, Tyler. I do not think anyone should be insulted they way Tyler insulted me. And his profanity is anther issue. I read some of the other Yelp reviews and many of them say that the customer service at BDDW is horrible. I would say that Tyler's email to be goes way beyond poor customer service. I hope that their PR person reads the reviews and teaches them how to treat customers.

Yelp
Keep in mind that most of the reviews here are talking about the furniture and not the retail store. The furniture is definitely more interesting than what you would find at your average furniture store. For those who want to know what the retail store is like: the service is abysmal. the sales person was quite rude, incredibly slow, and took some effort to put on a passive aggressive display of his disdain for us as consumers. i went in as a potential buyer and walked out and wrote this review. for the service we encountered, you would think i walked into an art gallery and asked if a jackson pollock was a finger painting. this was for a $10,000 media stand ... to support a jumbo flat panel TV from some sad factory overseas. it makes no sense, i know. i appreciate the idea of modern american craftsmanship, but as echoed by other reviews - for the money, i'd rather work directly with a craftsman and not some jerk working retail in soho. or, go to ABC where you will find interesting pieces and fantastic service.

Yelp
I've bought way too many pieces of furniture here over the years. I discovered the guy who owns it before he even had an official shop in Soho via a story in NY Mag about up and coming furniture designers. Since then, he's gone big time and his custom made stuff is big money. His creations are beautiful for the most part, and some of it, such as his dining tables and dressers, are extraordinary. Very few people do the quality of work he's doing today, which is why it costs a fortune and why the lead time is at least 16 weeks. Unless they happen to have it made already, which is possible for some things like chairs, prepare to wait. Their show space on Crosby is pretty neat. It's worth a peek even if you have no intention of buying a thing. Things to look out for, other than the dressers and tables, include their beautiful round mirrors, funky vacuum tube clocks and their beds. I'm not too crazy about the couches they have in the store as of this review. They don't look as high end or modern as the other stuff, and because there is no visible wood element or striking feature to the couches, they have kind of a mid-market, Crate and Barrel look to them. That's not a bad thing at all, but it is at BDDW. I'd rethink those couches or place them further out of sight. The sales people can be a bit cold. It's a lot better than clingy, I suppose. But maybe work on that and find a middle ground. I sometimes feel like I'm invading whatever they were doing before I walked in to potentially buy several thousand dollars worth of their stuff. Ohhh...to end on a positive note...don't forget to check out their lighting either. They have some crazy beauteous lights.

Yelp
A few weeks after posting this review, another Yelper sent me a private message that he and his wife, who is Jamaican, had a nearly identical experience at BDDW. He noted that they were made to feel so unwelcome, they just left the store after a few minutes. He attributed it to a top-down culture from the company owner, Tyler. I wanted to share this because people have a lot of choice about where/how they spend their money, and this kind of passive racism speaks volumes in the times we are living in. This behavior is very troubling, and also hurtful to me. I encourage others to think about what you're supporting when you spend your money here.

Yelp
My apartment looks like a dorm and I'm up to my eyeballs in decades old Ikea. Truth be told, I have yet to fix this because I'm lazy (and broke... mainly because my damn stomach is always making unreasonable demands for sushi and wine and good food). Until you stumble upon bddw, and all of this changes. Gorgeous wood mounted nixie clocks. Leather wrapped mirrors and perfect wooden benches. But the piece de resistance? The tables: they are made from single pieces of wood, expertly honed to perfection with cast iron legs, custom made to any size. The cost?... well let's put it this way... 2,772 all you can eat sushi dinners at Funayama for my favorite table. Hmmmm... sushi for 7.6 years straight or a table to eat it on? Tough call. My stomach actually was worried that I would consider abandoning it for a table. But then it realized that the table cost more than I make in a year. And my stomach felt safe, my heart broke and my Ikea remained.

Yelp
I bought a console table, dining table, stools and dining chairs here for a small west village apartment as I wanted many of the pieces to be consistent in terms of look and finish but not too "matchy"...I love everything I bought. Beautiful and comfortable! I did not experience any problem with the customer service..in fact everyone was very helpful

Yelp
The BDDW showroom is a brilliant space. The craftsmanship of each piece is undoubtedly genius. The 5-10 minutes I spent in the showroom was glorious. However, I was asked repeatedly if I had any questions about any of the pieces by every employee, and after I said I was just looking to the last employee, he asked me to leave. He said the showroom was by appointment only (BS), and they don't have it posted but want to keep it that way (doesn't make any sense). You should post it or at least lock the door you stuck up a-holes! As soon as they made the assumption that I don't have money or wasn't going to buy anything they kicked me out. My father owns a ton of BDDW pieces and now I look at them and see ugliness.

Yelp
We purchased a lamp from BDDW, and it is beautiful. But I felt compelled to write because the customer service here does not match up with the quality of their work. We set a time for pickup and were told that the lamp would be waiting for us, but it wasn't...fine, a standard oversight. But when my husband arrived in-store and asked about it, one of the salespeople made him feel like finding it was a huge hassle. I had a chance to interact with the same salesperson afterwards and I (separately) got the distinct impression that we were a nuisance. It made me regret giving them my business, even if I'm very happy with our lamp itself. When you're charging these prices, customers like to feel like they matter, and while I love the stuff here I will definitely have to evaluate whether I want to buy anything else from BDDW in the future. So...chalk this up to another review that's about service and not product. If service doesn't matter to you, then go forth and buy beautiful handmade furniture here with abandon! But I hope the management at BDDW reflects on the fact that I am not the first review here to be put off by the chilly sales staff.

Yelp
BDDW is not for everyone! It is for those who love and respect true crafts people. The beautiful pieces are an investment. Unbelievable tables and headboards made from a giant single piece of wood. These crazy idiots who complain about price on Yelp should not be commenting about furniture they know nothing about. Do you walk around the Bentley car dealership and lecture them about the price of a car? Better yet do you Yelp Bentley because you can't afford one? BDDW is the Bentley of furniture...only BDDW will last much longer!

Jeffrey B.

Yelp
BDDW is a premium hand made furniture builder and with that comes a big ticket price tag. The furniture and clocks, etc. are beautifully made blending classic form with a Tyler Hayes' contemporary twist. A number of reviewers complain about the cost of the furniture... Hmmm i might suggest suggest that it's his business right to charge what he may for his work and it's up to us the customer to decide if it's a fair trade. Judging from the 12 -16 week wait for most pieces it seems as though many people feel its an equitable trade.
