Beach Ball is an amazing bar that I got to visit. They owners were super friendly, and I really liked their environment. In the back, there are pool tables for anyone who loves to play while having your favorite drinks. I would highly recommend coming here to have a great experience. This place is a Legendary Dive! And I mean *dive* in a good way. The locals are always friendly and the bar service is quick. Even when it gets busy. I always stop at Beach Ball when I visit Newport cause it's always open. It is Very comforting to know that this place still exists even when the rest of Huntington Beach is turning into a yuppie playground infest.

Review of Beach Ball Bar – Newport Beach I’m writing this as a warning to anyone considering visiting Beach Ball Bar. Two of my daughters were roofied at this bar on a Thursday afternoon around 3:00 PM, during what was supposed to be a joyful bachelorette celebration. We left them at the bar around 2:30 PM, and within minutes, a man—whom we have on video—was seen bringing shots to them. Those drinks were drugged. After piecing everything together through texts, videos, and calls, we’ve identified three predatory men, and we believe one may have been an employee. Multiple women from our group, who were traveling with us, saw these same men on FaceTime calls made repeatedly during the chaos that followed. This was not just suspicious—it was predatory and calculated. Thankfully, the group barely made it out safely. But this place is not safe, especially for women. We are not the first to report something like this—search the reviews yourself. Beach Ball Bar has a pattern of similar allegations. This should not be allowed to continue. Please think twice before stepping foot in this establishment. Your safety—and the safety of your loved ones—comes first.

From Chicago staying in Newport. Very racist bar . Have a video witnessing them passing all the Caucasian pool tables going straight to the Latin pool table no words said shutting the lights off and taking the balls away I confronted the guy because he left all the other tables open after he had just said verbatim if you aren’t paying pool go upstairs when in fact that table was . when confronted he instantly said it had nothing to do with ethnicity. In my eyes very racist . And I have it on video . Very shameful.

Awesome dive bar that's been there for many years. Only bar that opens at 6am in Newport Beach & Balboa.

Beer/Alcohol: a handful of taps, bottle selection and hard alcohol. No food offered at this bar. Final thoughts: The Beach Ball is right on the beach, literally. There are two large window fronts where you can take a seat and stare out into the Pacific Blue Ocean. Couple of pool tables and plenty of seating. Not your uppity crowd, down to earth hole in the wall type people, good people. You can catch a drink here and enjoy all the sights and sounds within a 1-minute walking distance.

Awesome place to have a quick drink. Our bartender was super friendly and made us a nice drink. They have a table pool games and nice music to vibe in.

Between this and Blackies you are two staples in the Newport bar crawl trail. If you are looking for an old school dive bar on Newport Peninsula, this is a must go. Had many a great day and foggy night here!

I've been coming to Beachball for over five years and I've always loved experience, and once Aaron started working there, he really added a personal touch. Always making us feel safe and making sure that how we left with a smile on our face. Can't wait to come back and hangout! Will come back to say hi to Aaron! The bartender is extremely rude, and when I was trying to explain my order, he was not listening to me, and he was changing the prices on the drinks I was getting the same drink why were the prices changing ? I went there on a Tuesday evening

Our by far favorite local bar...it's like a home away from our home bar! Great people and even better workers! Gotta love Uncle Chuck!

Just an overall cool vibe at this speakeasy bar. Very small but it creates a very intimate spot for you to chat with strangers and just have an amazing time. The pool table at the back just a great addition for activities.

I came in a few weeks ago and had a great conversation with Aaron. I'll be back to talk cars and golf with him soon

Aaron has always been a welcoming face and always took care of us. The service and atmosphere at this place is always great. Locals still love it even though it's in the heart of tourist central.

If you're in the area and are looking for a play to hang out, grab a drink, and get helped by awesome bartenders; this is the place to be. Jenn is awesome and is a main reason I'm a frequent visitor. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking to grab a drink and play some pool!

The place is a vibe. The pool tables are chill and it's nice that it's 2 levels. Jen the bartender is awesome

Service and ambiance is just perfect. Vibes is very chill just the kinda place to be when your coming off work. Staff are amazing security makes you feel safe and welcomed. Greeted by Aaron with a big smile and can't forget about the drinks. Everything is top notch!

Beach Ball vs. Blackie's....it's so close. Both are great bars, but I give Blackie's a slight advantage, primarily because of the obnoxious bouncers at Beach Ball. Anyway, Beach Ball is an incredible bar with a great location. After walking up a few stairs, you enter the small bar area perched above the sidewalk. With a rounded bar there are a good number of barstools available. Friendly service once you're in. Downstairs there are a couple pools tables and a few other seating options. Love Beach Ball and am super thankful they've been able to remain in their location.

Bar is ok small with poll Tables, no DJ, bartender kind and vibe pretty much what you make of it, TouchTunes DJ at a cost. However the door person is rude w/ a chip on their shoulder. First he was not present at the door as we walked in, we immediately were greeted by the bar and our drink order was taken along with our ID check, shortly after door guy walks w/ terrible attitude as if we walked in legally or something of such. Furthermore, as we attempted to make the best of our night there, my girlfriend had placed her head down from a headache without any visible sign of intoxication, and this guy aggressively harassed us leave. I have never felt so uncomfortable and bullied by a grown adult male. I will never return nor would recommend it.

It's a bar folks. I read a lot of reviews- good and bad. The drinks are strong and Bloody Mary's delicious. View is great if you score a window seat. If you don't? Please put down your device and chat with a fellow customer. It's not a club. It's not a fancy "speakeasy" There are pool tables. Get your ID ready even with grey hair. Yes, people, it's a dive where the restroom is small and I suggest grabbing the handle out with a paper towel. Bar staff and door person have always been cool. I went here with my wife for the very first time for a special occasion, I had a open tab and the bartender few hours later ended telling my wife that I'm getting kicked out which I had no idea of, my wife approached me with the news, they tried to say I was intoxicated which was impossible due to what I drank and 5 beers definitely will not do, then we found out the REAL reason I was getting the boot the bartender charged my card nearly $200 dollars and had the worst attitude...his own words where "get out we already charged you both" NEVER WOULD TRUST THAT BAR DONT RECOMMEND..also made a tiktok that is grabbing tons of attention and people are relating to the same thing at that location. DO YOURSELVES A FAVOR AND DO NOT GO..

The rudest door man I have ever encountered completely unprofessional and I will never go in again. He's the guy with the mustache and tatoos. Wouldn't recommend here to anyone

I laugh at all the poor reviews. We've been going here since 2009 and everyone here is family. The bartenders and patrons. Everyone remembers us when we show up and we only visit once or twice a year. So that says something. It's a dive bar. It's not for tourists. It's for locals. Treat it as such. The employees are the most genuine people you'll ever meet. Be real and you'll be treated right. They're going to treat you as they see you. Entitled people can move on...

My Favorite Bar in all of Newport Beach. And beyond. I highly recommend their drinks and encourage you to come in for Happy Hour.

This bar is considered a local treasure. With more than 50 years in business it always has the best service and a great crowd. I love taking my out of town friends and family when they come visit. It's an awesome experience if you are ever in Newport Beach, California :)

Been here a few times before but never had too bad of an experience until the other night. A group of 7 of us were playing pool when the table next to us started hounding us for no reason - we were playing our game and minding our business. A woman in a Beach Ball tank top randomly shouts "let's go Brandon!" (The political right-wing affiliated phrase.) Out of annoyance, I responded for them to shut up. I was in a bar with friends and didn't want to be bothered with politics from strangers we've never met. The woman in the Beach Ball shirt just kept laughing and mocking us saying how mad we were, how upset we were, etc. It felt like mean children on the playground. She then kept saying "you don't belong here, this isn't the bar for you, we could tell you were liberals the second you walked in." Not one of us ever spoke a word about politics. We were just playing pool minding our business. Maybe she said that just because we were young? We are just average looking people in our mid-20s, with no words or clothes being related to politics. It's clear the type of people this bar attracts... and since this woman was clearly either an employee or a superfan of Beach Ball, we decided we won't be returning. I later attempted to sit at a shared stool in between our tables and she said I wasn't allowed to. (?) Just strange behavior. If those are what the casuals look like then I don't want to return. Seems like a hateful bar who promotes spewing hateful messages. Edit: Coming back weeks later to say that five of us got Covid after coming here. Lmaoooo

Love this place! Super chill staff and friendly customers. Great spot to just hang out with a beer. I really liked the ambience of this bar. It's got this nautical feel inside that fits right in with the beach location and the wood molding makes it warm and inviting. Hilarious signs posted throughout so give 'em a read, you'll be glad you did.

Spent years kicking everyone's butt in pool for years. From coming in off the beach in bikini & staying until closing. Yes, I'm a girl & this was about 33 years ago. Spent all my childhood practically at the pier. GREAT FUN HERE! I'm sure it sits forever

Well, three years later and I visited again. Man bun is gone, (most likely a lawyer now), and Paul is the new door man. Paul is awesome, friendly, accommodating and the rest of the staff follows suit. Beachball gets out cash again! Cheers

Awesome place to hang out in Newport area. We hung out here last weekend over a coworkers birthday. I drank several Cadillac Marguritas and Jack Daniels with White Russians. Great place awesome staff and bar tenders. Shot some pool with a couple of random strangers until it was our turn to play. Best bars in Newport. No fights break out like Huntington Beach bars. Fun time, Fun people, I will return.

Don't come here unless you want to be drugged. We had a glass of champagne before arriving last night. We consumed 1.5 drinks at the bar before things got blurry and we were on the verge of starting to black out. Thank god we were staying nearby. Could have been extremely dangerous had we needed to drive. We stayed approx. an hour, bar was dead when we arrived so our suspicion is the bartender was responsible. Terrible place. Don't waste your time and money and stay safe!

Any decent Newport Beach bar crawl isn't complete without the Beach Ball. Our crew stopped by this beachside dive bar while attending an 80s bar crawl at several Newport Beach establishments. This spot is definitely a dive with great drink specials and a variety of pool tables available. It gets a little crowded as the night goes on, so we snagged a table and played a round of pool with fellow 80s goers. The Beach Ball is located along the Newport boardwalk and is easily accessible to the beach, as well as a variety of other bar options. It's single window looks out onto the pier, and has some pretty breathtaking views! Parking is relatively easy, but it's paid until 6pm.

Went here on a Sunday afternoon and brought some friends from out of the area. After buying a couple of Peninsula priced drinks our time was cut short by The doorman who was horribly rude and the overall atmosphere of the bar was very negative. I guess describing that specific situation is against Yelp policies perhaps so we will stick to this... the service was poor and impolite. The value of our experience very low.

Went to beach ball with friends for cocktails we had one down the street and went into the bar. Got 2 cocktails and went to the patio to enjoy them. Our friend which was on our same program went inside alone with having only had one cocktail before and came out stumbling and really messed up. She said she only had one drink alone with the bar tender and ordered another to enjoy with us. She came out stumbling and confused and sat with us. As soon as the bar folk realized she was with us immediately cut her off. And took her drink away from her. I believe she was drugged. 10 min later there were 3 bouncers waiting for us to not let us back in. She had a total of 2 drinks and is by no means a light weight at drinking. I'd never go here again. I'd Recommend no one go here unless you want to be drugged. We were kicked out onto the streeet and took an Uber home to take care of our friend that's now in the hospital having severe stomach pains.

Ladies. You aren't safe here. Posting this to alert for all women. This review is late but this experience still doesn't sit right with me. Tried to get a bartender to call a cab for a very very drunk woman who was very disoriented. The bartenders were not only unhelpful, they were rude. After initially ignoring me, they very rudely told me that "She's a grown woman, she can handle herself." While that may be true, a bartender who talks like that is a red flag. That's not the type of place I want to recommend to other women. I helped the woman without a smidge of help from the two bartenders, who blatantly told me she wasn't "their problem," along with other dismissive comments. She was clearly in a very bad situation and they were very stand off-ish with me from the start. When it's last call, they don't give a hoot what happens to you. If I wasn't there to help her, who knows what would have happened to her. Some of the patrons were way more helpful, trying to help me get this woman to safety. Also, this bar sucks. It's a hole. The only reason we went here was because all the good bars were crowded. Will never support this business again.

Nice view. Some interesting people. Don't expect your song to be played on the juke box unless you pay premium. Drinks decent priced. Staff indulges but it's cool.

Another great dive bar, side by side with Blackies by the sea. Only been here once and the door guy and bartender were great BS with. Not many people in the place for a Slow Cold Tuesday but I get it. Place has an interesting layout, but worth a place to check out.

I've been to Beach Ball many times before this pandemic and have always felt welcomed and appreciated for my business. Unfortunately coming to one of my favorite bars in Newport Beach I was met with angry hostile employees. I was yelled at for entering the building and asking if I could pay my tab! I wouldn't have needed to enter the building if an employee was monitoring tables like every bar on earth normally does. While trying to explain why I felt I needed to be inside the building I was cussed at by people wearing Beach Ball uniforms. Not really understanding why I was being berated for trying to pay for the drinks me and my girlfriend drank, I tried to explain myself. I was just met with anger and loud tones of voices. Then my girlfriend tried to intervene and get our bill and she was also berated with obscenities and rude customer service. This place is trash, DO NOT GIVE YOUR BUSINESS TO BEACH BALL, NEWPORT BEACH CA

RASIST!!! Go to Blackies, Sharkies, ANYWHERE else RASIST!!!!! I came here with my fiancé who is half Mexican and half black, he is 26 with a LEGAL ID from California (at that) and the bartender claimed that he wasn't able to take his ID. We all have CA ids including me, and we asked why he wasn't able to take the ID and he said he wasn't able to see the bear outlineS knowing that the ID is real we asked the bartender to point it out, we were all able to clearly see the CA bear outline on the drivers license, his response was " it's too hard for me too see it" clearly a lie!!!!!! Since it was a legit iD and we all have the same type of license where the CA bear is able to be shown. So disappointed in New port and this bar. We went to so many bars after and had no problem

Super packed. People sitting at the bar passive aggressively complained we were wearing masks. I guess that's expected in Newport Beach..

Had a good enough time however it's a bit irritating to ask for no star and get one....and then to receive TWO full size straws?! Wtf? Why would anybody need two straws in one drink? Ridiculous......

Came here on a busy day and ordered a couple of drinks. The staff was rude. The crowd was unfriendly and unwelcoming. The place seemed dark and damp and stinky inside. If you're in Newport I'd skip Beach Ball. Update. Not sure why but my previous review was taken down. Just giving an honest review of my experience with this place. Don't spend your money here.

If you want to be chill and quaint. This is the place. Laid back atmosphere and good drinks. Prices are great for oceanfront views

I have a titanium rod through my leg because I was in a motorcycle accident... first guy/ bouncer asked me if I'm "okay" in a aggressive tone. I say; "yes of course" he says "okay, I just have to check you know that's my job." I'm walking... next employee / bouncer does the same exact thing. Then I say "why do you have to ask these questions in the aggressive tone... I am a customer.?!? Is this customer service? As I explained I have a hard time walking. Quote on quote I ask," is this your customer service? "He says "you're out!" I say fine. This is ridiculous; it was a trashy place in the first place.

We were not served thay said we had to much to drink. we just arrived from Las Vegas and had no drinks.We were just happy being on Vacation. We are staying at the Marriott definitely a Nice ace $$$ .I am trying to not cry! I had drove all this way with a friend to help feel better over the loss of my best friend my mother. Wow ! Poor service , and racist !! This bartender poured "Jameson" and it was jack d, and he was pissed off because they pour other alcohol in other bottles. Be aware of this place . I was also with my friend who happened to be black, who is my good buddy, And also felt the haterness. This bartender was so racist and unprofessional . If i didn't like the drink, he should poured me something else as courtesy , he kicked me out instead .very rude and unprofessional

Showed up for a breakfast beer and was treated so well by Chuck. He had just made a long journey from Fullerton and was exhausted but really gave THE BEST SERVICE. Such a fan!

Rad bar, cool bartenders, awesome location... if they let you in. This is one of my favorite bars on the peninsula because it's just the right amount of dive. The people are cool and friendly and its totally unpretentious and not a huge party of kids and shitfaced sunburns you'll find at Sharkeez down the way. I've never had any issues there whatsoever, until recently when a group of friends and I went there while out barhopping. We had no issues getting in anywhere else, but Beach Ball would not budge on letting my German friend (with a real, government issued German IDs - Yes, that's plural) in. Fine, there's risk if you can't check an ID you're unfamiliar with, but there should be some way. After all, she'd even been there before. Yep. We were a group of 7 and we were excited to end the night at a high note at Beach Ball, but we all had to leave and literally just went next door. Again, totally understandable to an extent (if they already hadn't let her in before), but I think they could have figured something out rather than disappointing and turning away 7 people who would have had a great time there. Beach Ball is great, but don't try to get anyone in with a foreign ID.

The door guy was a complete jerk the last time I was here with some friends. My friend who was drunk thanks to your strong drinks (2 stars for that) had accidentally put his drink on the side of the pool table and instead of politely and professionally asking your drunken patron to remove his beverage he aggressively threatened us and used his giant body as an almost intimidation factor. The place also smells like a locker room. Won't be coming back here if that dude is at the door.

Waitress there was terrible . I was accused of slapping her hand while asking for a drink lol. Wow. I'm sorry the younger generation is so overly sensitive . I tapped her hand with my finger . I can understand if she felt I invaded her space that I apologize for . But to be a Karen and go to that extreme . The bouncer was nice and asked to talk to me . And I explained . No problems I just left . Went to blackies where I've been a frequent for ten years . They thought it was hilarious . Sorry the Karen waitress at the beach ball needs to go to blackies and learn some personality ....
