On the Grid : Beach Fish House

"The seafood options are endless. Beach Fish House is owned by two hard-working individuals who also import their own goods. You can purchase fresh or frozen fish, lobsters, oysters, and crabs. However, if you're constantly on-the-go, they also serve food that you can takeout such as sushi and chowder made with their own products. They know what's good because they also sell sauces that are a little more difficult to find in stores such as aioli sauce." - Mimi Vuong

The 38 Best Restaurants in Toronto, Canada | Eater

"After working in famed spots such as the Lockhart in Dallas, gregarious pitmaster Darien List brought his wealth of knowledge about Central Texas barbecue to Torontonians. Relish in signatures like marbled brisket, cooked indirectly over oak and licked with just the perfect amount of smoke. For a handheld meal, look to the Big D, a Dallasite-approved sammy decked with brisket, turkey, and sausage that’s topped with zippy coleslaw and smoky poblano peppers. Pro tip: Be on the lookout for weekly specials, like List’s Flintstones-sized beef ribs, which conceal craters of fat and spice. Know before you go: There are three locations in the city; a visitor’s best bet is the downtown outpost, but it’s mostly grab and go with limited patio seating." - Tiffany Leigh

How Beach Hill Smokehouse Brought Texas Barbecue to Canada | Eater

"Led by pitmaster Darien List, this Toronto barbecue operation uses a 7,000-pound indoor smoker—necessary to produce central Texas–style barbecue through Toronto’s freezing winters—and can cook up to 1,800 pounds of meat at once; the team’s day starts around 4 a.m. Their flagship is a classic slow-roasted brisket seasoned with a distinctive white-sugar spice rub rather than the more common brown sugar. The menu also highlights dry-rubbed whole roasted chickens, brown sugar–rubbed and marinated ribs and rib tips, and a much-praised mac and cheese that’s rich with milk and cheese, flavored with garlic and paprika, and finished in the smoker. The operation emphasizes barbecue as a labor of love, with long hours and a focus on time-honored process that brings people together." - Terri Ciccone

Food was good but service and dining environment was not that great. Beef brisket was great, very balanced in fat and pretty tender. Burn ends came with more fat and heavier in sauce but delicious if you like pork belly sort of staff. Pork ribs were okay, a bit dry. They had one type of beer only. The setting was more like for take-out. One-use utensils in plastic only and no glasses for beer. You got to pay first and take food out to the dining area to eat. Hygiene was a bit concerned here by seeing how sticky the table was. So, wanna enjoy the food, take it to-go.

Wow Texas big in Tdot!!... Eclectic atmosphere in a vibrant part of the city... We had the brisket and chicken it was delicious literally melted in ny mouth... Creamy Mac&cheese and inhouse coleslaw was great side and had some desert to top it all off... Its a must see for all foodies! Great establishment with good people at its helm... Shout out my guys Surya & Anad for great dining experience 10/10🤞🏾💯❤️

Google
Food came out instantly. I was worried since it was already made it would be dry but I was wrong. Whole chicken was even juicy. It's expensive for $90 and it gave what's in my picture. ribs were too salty but everything was tasty and home made.

Google
The brisket is bomb. And the chicken sausage has a nice kick. The staff are super friendly. I’ll definitely be back! Even bought more to take home for the family.

Google
The smell of smoke, when you walk in the door tells you the food is good! The gentlemen behind the counter walked us through the process, well above and beyond good customer service. Lots of food, great tastes!

I’ve been meaning to check this place out as I’ve heard great things. We were not disappointed!!! The staff were very friendly and helped suggest sizes of Brisket cuts. I ordered the Brisket to go and was blown away by its flavour when I got home and tried it. I usually take better food photos but couldn’t wait to bite into The Lockhart! It hit the spot and the meat was perfect, the sausage was a tasty addition too and worked surprisingly well. My good friend also ordered the Big D and said it was real good- I will try that next time as the coleslaw looked fresh and my buddy said it worked well in the sandwich. DEFINITELY try the smoked brisket!!! So much unique smoked and delicious flavours going on - so unique, soft and good! As we finished ordering a family showed up and were trying to order the chicken- I may also try that next time. Congrats to the owners on opening up the other locations too! Hooray for delivering delicious food as an independent food operator in the T-Dot- we will be back and I will try more❤️

Google
Made a reservation for a Sunday afternoon (5pm), when we arrived they had sold out of over half the menu beforehand and had no record of the reservation at all. Staff was lazy and was unwilling to prepare enough food. They were even happy to tell us a tale about how they'd sold out hours before closing the week before and made no adjustment to make sure they could get customers until closing time this weekend, all so they could leave early. Not sure if the original owner is okay with the food quality but the beef sausages at Costco were better than these. Couldn't try the ribs because they were sold out so they attempted to substitute it with overly salted pork belly instead. Had zero chicken products left as well as no beans, coleslaw or any other sides. The brisket tasted like they're idea of smoking meat is leaving it next to an open propane tank until it changes colour. Some of the worst bbq I've had the displeasure of paying for. At least the employees were nice, but nice and lazy doesn't make up for much. 2 stars instead of 1 because they at least tried to offer some desserts as an apology.

Google
We ordered a meat feast from here for dinner and everything was delicious! The staff were great at prepping and packing our large order. There was a lot of meat to organize and they did a great job! We got a little bit of everything: their smoked ribs, sausage, pulled pork, smoked brisket, chicken and turkey. Everything was scrumptious and smoked to perfection. For sides we got their coleslaw and potato salad. The potato salad was my fave and both offered a nice reprieve from the greasiness of the meats. Our order also came with some Riverside-branded beers in various varieties. Overall, everything was amazing and we ate like kings and queens! I highly recommend this local smokehouse for your meat cravings!

Yelp
A small street front place. Grab your food in the back and then find a seat at a patio table (tho they are inside) to eat. I chose the Lockhart sandwich which was great! Husband went with some brisket (their specialty) and a rib. The na. And cheese is good, as is the potato salad! Stop by for done great BBQ and friendly staff!

Yelp
Best bbq in the city! Been going to Beach Hill throughout the years and I'm always impressed by the quality and tastiness of their meats. My favourite is the burnt ends, which has a sweet smoky taste to them. But other offerings are great too, from the really tender brisket, to the glistening pork belly, the creamy potato salad, and a peach cobbler that grandma would approve. If you're in the mood for a no-frills-all-thrills texas bbq, Beach Hill is then place to go.

Yelp
For someone that has lived in Texas, this food tastes nothing like Texas. I strongly believe meat should be seasoned. The presentation is good but the taste is off and the quantity is too small.

Yelp
Beef brisket sandwich comes with a rib! Very juicy. Mac and cheese is decently Al Dente but definitely will leave you full if you have anything else. Ambience of the place definitely reminds me of American barbecue joint. I just wish there was hot sauce to give my sandwich a zing.

Yelp
Food: 4.5 Stars Service: 4 Stars Ambience: 3 Stars Fill Factor: Filling I passed by this place during one of the periods where I was trying to cut back on my meat consumption. With me writing this review you can probably guess how successful I was with that resolution. I came in here with the intent of just ordering a sandwich but unfortunately they were out of the Lockhart so down the rabbit hole I went. I ended up ordering some beef brisket, ribs and the mac & cheese. Everything tasted really good with the mac & cheese surprisingly more tasty than I had anticipated. However the highlight of the meal had to be the brisket. There was a distinct aroma to it that made my mouth water and the taste...wow. The fatty brisket was so juicy, tender and full of flavour. That is definitely a fine piece of brisket. I did takeout so I am unsure what the in restaurant dining service (if any) is like. The folks here were friendly and talkative throughout my entire time ordering and having my food prepped. The customer ahead of me was making some pretty rude remarks about the prices and the business but the gentleman handling the order remained calm and professional so bonus points for that. The space itself is not too big. There is some seating closer to the entrance of the restaurant while the kitchen and cash register were further in the back if the building. The space seemed fine with nothing really negative or overly special to say about it. I don't frequent BBQ restaurants much so I can't make a comparison on how Beach Hill stacks against other BBQ restaurants. I just know that the food tasted really good and I'll look to do this again sometime in the near future.

Yelp
I'm a bit of a barbecue connoisseur and smoke my own at home in the US. Had the brisket and ribs. Pretty comparable to something you'd get at some of the well known spots in Texas. You know the barbecue is good if it would survive in Texas, and it definitely would.

Yelp
If I could give this place a 0, I would. We ate there a year ago and picked up some take-out brisket. Of the 2 lbs we bought, 1 1/2 were just inedible fat, to be thrown away. The meat was tasty but when you ask for lean, you expect to get it. HARD PASS

Yelp
Would've never imagined eating Ribs in a vehicle, but desperate times call for desperate measures! Ordered some trays to use in my SUV, and Voila - Fine dining curb-side! If you don't live close enough to take it home, Beach Hill is not overly messy and can be eaten outside. Lots of street parking at the moment. It's nicely packed, and they have ample napkins inside. Everyone was following health guidelines and service was quick as usual. Definitely recommend the Mac n Cheese & Peach Cobbler. Yeah, it's a bbq place but I'm not a big meat eater. Not shown: 1/2 Chicken - it was HUGE...and delish

Yelp
Hands down one of the best bbqs I ever had in my life even better than adamson bbq, a little pricey we got half a pound brisket and half a pound turkey with bbq sauce on the side, one negative the place was dirty there were a lot of flies so definitely they should work on their cleanliness, but let's start with the bbq, the brisket oh my god so tender and smoky, the meat just pulls apart perfectly cooked, I felt like I was in heaven, and the turkey juicy moist had a Smokey flavour but the prize money was the brisket, it just falls apart, one suggestion they should it by the pound cuz half a pound won't even fill up a toddler, but overall well done on the bbq they know what they're doing that's for sure, honestly it doesn't need bbq sauce but they give bbq sauce complimentary when you order

Greg M.

Yelp
Love this place!! The meats - I've had the brisket, the sausage, the ribs & the smoked turkey - are all fabulous, whether on their own or in sandwiches. Their sides - Mac & cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, cornbread-are also superb! The owner is very friendly and comes to check how the meal's going, joking with customers. Stripped-down & simple eating space keeps the focus on why you're there - for quality Southern BBQ! Praise be!

Yelp
Brisket is very good with an excellent smoke. Bbq sauce is fantastic and possibly best in Toronto. Pork ribs were mediocre. Pass on that.

Yelp
We love this place! The food is incredible and the staff are absolutely fantastic. Get the ribs and banana pudding

Yelp
Having heard good things about this place, we got their combo for takeout. Always looking for some good bbq in Toronto. Brisket: Amazing smoke flavor. I think I got a leaner cut. Still moist and delicious but would have been perfect with just a tad less dry. Still really good - 4.5/5. Pork ribs - love the monstrous size of these ribs. Has a good coating of spices/rub with a peppery kick. Not fall off the bone but still good. 4/5 Smoked turkey - this was a bit on the dry side but not bad for smoked turkey. Always tricky to get turkey breast moist. Not my favorite but that might be personal choice - 3/5. Sausage - good Smokey flavor, not overly salty. Has quite a peppery kick. I liked it but felt one note after a while with just pepper taking over. 3/5. Potato salad - creamy, chunks of potatoes and other veges. Can't complain - 4.5/5. Coleslaw - fresh, crisp veges. Also a surprising pepper kick to this as well. I liked it but not sure if the pepper is coleslaw is for all. 4/5. Baked beans - soft with a hint of sweetness. Goes well with all the meats. 3.5/5

Yelp
Heard so many good things about this place but just did not have a chance to visit. Then yesterday I was looking for something to do yesterday and found out they were celebrating two years anniversaries. Everything I tried was just solid gooood!! Complementary brisket sandwich for the first 100 customers- Brisket was solid but wished bun was warm or toasred. Split pea and ham soup($4) was perfect for rainy day in winter. Stuffeed jalapeno with brisket, saussage & cream cheese($4) was a flavour bomb!! Corn bread($3) was very very moist and was almost falling apart. Peach cobbler($4) was not your typical pretty cobbler but you should try it. . Dry Pork ribs were sold by LB ($12) and paid about $20. Loved that they did not smother ribs with bbq sauce. It was great as us with rubs. Ordered two saussages($10 ea) They were very tasty and could not stop eating even though my stomach already had no room to take., Potato salad($4) was ammaazzing!! Liked the idea they added kale !! Service was beyond friendly. That explained why they have so many regulars to come in to celebrate their birthday. Will certainly go back for smoked turkey and The Irish Texan.

Yelp
I lived in Houston for over 7 years through grad school and have had Texas bbq in midland, Austin, Dallas, Houston etc. I really wanted to find a good Texas bbq joint ever since coming home to toronto. I had really wanted to love this place. I have tried many restaurants in toronto and never seemed to find the taste I had down south. Anyways, so my standards are not that high. However, the experience I had was not fantastic. We visited Beach Hill Danforth location during lunchtime last Saturday. There were no other guests there. Pricy- for 2 people, we paid $70 for our lunch which was served in paper and take out containers. I understand that meat in toronto costs a lot but it's still a bit much. Would prefer having an option on the menu where a plate combo was served that comes with a meat and two sides. Bbq joints in Texas serve meat on a paper wrap for you to take home but lots of bbq joints do serve a glorious large plate that can feed a Texas sized appetite. Maybe a Texan size plate for $20-24 and a small plate for $16-20. Ribs- 1/2 pound gets you about 3 pieces of ribs- for $14.50, no sides, tasty, Smokey meat. Very peppery. Brisket- 1/2 pound comes to about 4 slices, no sides very moist, juicy meat, delicious! Sides- the small sides are quite generous for one person. Tastes very herby and interesting. Both meats need some bbq sauce on the side for dipping or it's a bit dry.

Yelp
Love this place. Their smoked meat is the best. Their sandwiches and Mac and cheese are awesome. Meat isn't dry and so tasty.

Yelp
Best comfort food in Toronto ! The cook and staff are super friendly and it's immediately a awesome vibe when you step in . Best Ribs and Mac I've ever had . %100 recommend .

Yelp
This is a gem and an unexpected treat. The service was marvelous. When we saw this place, it seemed small. When we walked inside, there was amble space with a comfortable setting. We had a party of 7. They quickly accommodated us. We were presented with the menu and tried to decide on the best bbq options. This smokehouse was actually phenomenal. The waitresses were extremely polite and professional. Terria made sure we all had what we needed. She even told the owner how much she enjoyed our group that the chef and owner gave us a free Ribeye to show their appreciation. I ordered a indecisive sampler. It was created for me. I promise. 3 baby back ribs that would fall off the bone to the touch. The brisket was tasty but the sauce wasn't my favorite. The pulled pork was absolutely the best I've tasted. I ordered a slider bun to make it into a sandwich. The smoked sausage did not disappoint. The steak that was complementary was moist and tasty as well. If you visit Toronto, you need to stop here. This place is truly amazing.

Ricky C.

Yelp
This place serves real American BBQ. You won't find any better in Toronto. The owner came out and chatted with customers. He even gave me a banana pudding! Everything is made with real ingredients. You can taste the corn in the cornbread. Definitely will be coming back.

Yelp
I was entertaining a friend from Vancouver and we were looking for something different (for him) to try. Looking through Yelp, a five star BBQ place grabbed our attention. Hello! Beach Hill Smokehouse is located in the Upper Beach area, not somewhere known for a lot of restaurants, muchless good food. Walking in, there were a few picnic tables for dining and what looks like a bar still under construction. Walking towardss the back of the restaurant, through a narrow passageway, revealed more picnic tables, an open kitchen and the counter where orders are placed and picked up. There was a short line ahead of us, giving us time to look over the menu. Their meats are priced and sold by the half pound. They offer a few sandwiches, basic sides, and some desserts. The fellow ahead of us got a juicy looking beef rib so we had to have one too. It looked so good! We also ordered half a pound of pork ribs, half a chicken, a small potato salad, and a large coleslaw. Yes we were pigs. I don't know how much the beef rib weighed but the total bill was $66 with tax and tip. Everything was served on a tray, no plates, and only plastic utensils and lots of paper towels available. Rustic. Nothing wrong with that. The beef rib was the most distinctive thing on the tray, looking like a lump of black coal with a bone going through it. BBQ lovers know that as the bark (think tree bark) and all the goodness is just below it. No disappointment here. The meat was so tender and juicy with a nice smokey flavour. A plastic fork or fingers were just fine to pull it apart. Excellent! The pork ribs had just the right amount of resistance to come off the bone. Delicious! We should have ordered more. The chicken, although good, paled in comparison to the beef and pork. If you like chicken, order it. I'll stick with the beef and pork ribs. Their house BBQ sauce, neither sweet nor tangy, worked well with all the meats. That beef rib must have been bigger than we thought. I ended up taking home some of the beef and a quarter chicken. That's what you get when you order with your eyes. It was just as good a couple of days later. We learned a few things while waiting in line and ordering. This place has been open since January, 2018 and they're serving Central Texas style BBQ where it's mostly about the smoke. It's run by two Americans, one from Buffalo and the other from Texas, so I guess that makes it authentic. It's been a few days since my friend returned to Vancouver and he's been texting me every day about this food. Yes, it was that good. Try it.

Yelp
I took the long trip to the Beach Hill Smokehouse on a Friday night. The restaurant is located near Main and Gerrard. The restaurant was not crowded and there is plenty of seating. The food is served on a tray with no plates. You ordered the food by the half pound. I ordered a half pound of ribs and a half pound of brisket with a soft drink for 33 dollars. Maybe I don't know much about Texas BBQ, but I was disappointed in only getting two large pork bone with little meat. It tastes okay, but I can easily make the same dish at a much lower cost. The brisket was fatty and tasty, but not outstanding. Will I go back? I doubt it because it is very expensive for the amount of food I got.

Yelp
Pre-ordered the family cookout ($75) + an extra pound of brisket ($13 per half lbs) for an at home date. Pretax total came to just above $100 Note they only do preorders $100 or over, but when I called, they did mention that if you drop by weekends around 5:30pm, you should be fine Food was very plentiful even though at first glance when picking up, it seemed somewhat light Overall, the meal we bought could easily feed 3 to 4 people! The breakdown: Brisket: definitely one of the best we had. The bark on the brisket was perfect and it was incredibly tender with an insane smoke flavour. We ordered more to hit that preorder $100 mark, and definitely no regrets!! Sausage: also very good. Smoky flavour and not too greasy/fatty. Ribs: super tender, peppery & smoky flavour. Not saucy at all, but really let's the meat shine opposed to the sauce. Turkey: like many said, slightly on the dry side, could use more smoke flavour imo, and probably some more fat to keep moist. Still pretty good Sides: coleslaw was amazing fill of parsley (which we love), beans were also smokey and were delicious. Potato salad was good but could use some more zing (maybe dill?) Overall, great meats with very good flavours. Price is reasonable for what you get. Brisket is a must order!

Corey M.

Yelp
The Smokey aroma hits you as soon as you step in the door! That is just a start because the food gets better and better. For me, the brisket takes the prize of best in show but the Mac and cheese with the pulled pork comes close. This is a must stop!

Yelp
Came across Beach Hill whilst looking for some decent Texas style BBQ (absolutely not going to Adamson again after the owners weird tirade). Headed down there and picked up a pound of pork ribs, some sausage links, Mac n cheese, beans and cornbread. I'll review item by item below! Pork ribs - 3/5. They were okay, but they weren't very tender and didn't really taste like the ribs I've had in Texas to be honest...they did have a nice peppery bark though. Sausage - 3/5. Sausage wasn't bad, had a good amount of spice to em. The casing was a bit thick for me so they had quite a bit of chew to em. Mac n Cheese - 4.5/5. Cheese was good and not nasty processed cheese, wasn't runny, pasta was cooked perfectly. Beans - 5/5. Super super good baked bbq beans. Cornbread - 3.5/5. It was good, but It had actual pieces of corn in it which to be honest, I've never seen. I've seen jalapeño slices which are awesome, but not corn. Gave it a weird texture. Overall, Beach Hill is among the better BBQ joints in the city for sure, so don't skip it. But I really wouldn't call it true Texas style.

Yelp
This has gone downhill. Mac and cheese tasted suspiciously like PC white cheddar. No stretch !? One choice for bb q sauce. Huh ? No hot sauce. Baked beans come in a 100 ounce can. $13 sandwich was ok. Meat not hot. At 12:15? Won't want to be around when it hits the danger zone.

Angel M.

Yelp
My husband and I LOVE this place. The brisket and the sandwiches are our favourite. My husband also loves their jalapeño popper. Even better is the owner - awesome awesome dude. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Holy smokes! Lord have mercy on my soul. Sweet baby Jesus. The moment you step in, you are greeted by a warm welcoming whiff of smoke. As I watch countless people devour their trays of meat, I could not help but to salivate. Line was relatively short(thank god). Finally greeted by the most cheerful cash guy(mad props). Decided to break my order down to 2 phases. Phase 1 (eat in) - Austin and The Big D' and Phase 2(take out) - 1lb brisket, 1lb ribs, half pound turkey, 1 sausage, 10 wings, coleslaw, Mac n cheese, bread pudding and banana pudding and cornbread . As I collected my order I rushed to the nearest table to get a quick sample of the 2 sandwiches. Oh my...the ribs are to die for. The first initial bite reminded me of pork jerky, but as soon as you get through the initial chew, it disintegrates into your mouth like butter. The buns were perfect for the meat to absorb all the juices. The brisket fell apart. Meatgasm was achieved. As of right now, I have the phase 2 waiting for me. Unfortunately the portion size of the 2 sandwiches were too generous leading me to a part food coma. Without even tasting the other meats I'm going to say this is THE best bbq in toronto. Props.

Dinah T.

Yelp
Okay, get your Texas BBQ fix here with some Southern hospitality... Darien and staff are hands down the BEST! Got the Lockhart Sandwich and the Irish Texan (giant baked potato with brisket and sausage) Like come one, look at the meals! They also have really good hot and cold sides so try all of them. Support this fantastic local joint!

Yelp
We paid 11$ for a small container of Mac and cheese which was considered the large. The max and cheese was watered down, the cheese Sauce is basically a mixture of flour and milk with paprika. There might be a tiny bit of cheese in there, but it's minimal. The mac and cheese was so watery and tasteless. The brisket and ribs did taste good, but a lot of it was inedible because the brisket had so much fat, considering that we paid per pound. I felt like I got ripped off.

Yelp
So so so excellent. I've had the: pork rib, beef rib, fatty beef brisket, the Mac and cheese, the beans, the coleslaw and the sausage from here. ALL super delicious authentic Texas BBQ. The owner was also super cool, genuine and polite. Food is on the pricier side but worth it for the amount of prep time the restaurant takes to make it flavourful and delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
I have eaten BBQ many places in Toronto. The ones on Roncesvalles. The one on Queen near Trinity Bellwoods.  The one that used to be on Harbord. I have also eaten BBQ in Tennessee, Texas, and Louisiana.  Beach Hill stands tall with the best of them.. Easily. On texture, and smoky flavour. Do yourself a favour. Try it.

Yelp
4/5 Stars! Beach Hill Smokehouse offer's a wide range of assorted meat's and sides to fulfill any bbq lovers appetites. Definitely a secret gem on the east side of the city! Atmosphere was very chill and the personalities of the guys taking and making your order's almost outshine the bbq itself! As any other bbq spot in the city, you order your food by the lb so keep in mind of what you get before your bill goes through the roof. The ribs and beef brisket are two of the hottest picked items we had in our meal. Very flavourful, two items you cannot miss. The chicken, I will say, was a little dry, I would have preferred getting more beef brisket and another rib vs. the chicken. Overall a great experience!

Yelp
Beach Hill Smokehouse is a Southern BBQ house that specializes in Central Texas BBQ located on the Northwest corner of Gerrard St East and Main St in the Upper Beaches. It's located right across from Ted Reeve Community Arena. I went with the fatty beef brisket ($13 plus tax for 1/2 a pound) and an order of beef ribs ($26 plus tax), a side of small poblano coleslaw ($4 plus tax) and bourbon banana pudding for dessert ($4 plus tax). This was a lot of food for one person, if I added another small side, it would have been a good amount of food for two people with normal sized appetites. The fatty beef brisket was really good. Juicy, tender meat with a nice char on the outside with the proper amount of seasoning. The beef rib was also really good. A huge Flintstone sized beef rib with a nice layer of bark. The meat fell of the bone, really nicely seasoned with a nice smoke to it and a beautiful char to it. The poblano coleslaw was a good coleslaw with a nice kick to it which came from the poblano peppers but nothing too spicy. To finish off the meal I had the bourbon banana pudding. I really loved this dessert, I could have eaten two but one was good enough. Nice creamy banana pudding with small hints of bourbon. The service was really friendly and lots of picnic benches inside for ample places to sit down and eat. Beach Hill Smokehouse is a really good place in Toronto to get Central Texas barbecue. It's also a really good alternative to Adamson BBQ. It can be frustrating trying to get beef ribs at Adamson BBQ because they are usually sold out by noon and you are stuck with only the option of pork ribs. Nonetheless, the barbecue at Beach Hill Smokehouse is pretty good stuff.

Yelp
One word for you: Brisket. One sentiment: Eat it and bask in the wondrous smoky adventure. P.S. It goes REALLY WELL the next day in a scrambled egg, brisket situation with some cheese. Ugh, the salivation is starting.

Yelp
I have been there about half a dozen times since it opened and have found the brisket quite good. However, today at lunch I decided to try to their Burnt Ends and it was truly awful. Over half the plate was inedible. As you can see in the photo, it was extremely fatty - globs and globs of pure fat. The dish contained perhaps 10% burnt meat edges. I have had burnt ends before and they were nothing like this. I called the restaurant to find out if perhaps I got an early batch and if I had come later in the day they would be more "burnt" and drier, but the guy on the phone, who was also the one who served me, insisted that this is the way they are supposed to be and that it is meant to be that fatty. I really find that hard to believe. I will avoid there again after this experience!

Yelp
Lousy customer service, uncomfortable restaurant, gouging of customer for side dishes, gross serving practice (plates not used). Hot inside, waited in long line to get food, server tells me half the menu board is not available (after I'd waited). NO APOLOGY for wasting my time. The servers looked at me like they didn't give a sh*t. The decor is awful -- hard plastic picnic tables, no seat backs. There are 2 picnic tables outside that seat 6 each, with 2 at one, and 1 at the other, filling up the tables per covid rules. Instead of two tables for six, six tables for two would be smart. So eating inside in a hot, uncomfortable restaurant was the only choice. The food is served on plastic, cafeteria-type trays. They put a piece of brown paper on it, and the meat is served DIRECTLY ON THE PAPER. Gross. You eat off the paper, the juices absorbed by paper. And plastic cutlery. Not green at all. And for these prices, they could serve their food on a PLATE. The meat smelled good and is almost $16 for 8 ounces, worth it. But the sides are a rip-off, and who wants meat with no carbs? So 8 ounces of macaroni salad will set you back $7. No, there are no gold flakes in it. After all I'd seen while I waited in line to buy something they didn't have to sell, when I got to the head of the line and the servers were rude and unhelpful, that was the last straw: I turned around and left without buying anything. There are good businesses in Toronto I would rather give my money to; not this one. I don't reward poor behaviour by patronizing businesses who act these ways.

Yelp
We ordered the take-home meals "Family Cookout" (1/2 lb of Brisket, 1 lb of Ribs, 2 Sausages, 1/2 lb Turkey, 1 large Beans, 1 large Potato Salad, and 1 large Coleslaw $75) and because we aren't huge fans of beans we were able to exchange them for mac n cheese (additional $3) and picked up 4 corn breads ($4 ea. I think?) Along with this, we also ordered 2 sandwiches : The Lockhart ($12.50) and the The Austin ($13.50). We brought home the foods to eat and saved the Family cookout to eat another day. Reviews for the sandwiches: -Very small for the price that you pay for them, and they should have had a bigger bun for the more meat sandwiches. -More toppings for the sandwiches -Found them a bit dry Reviews for the Family Cookout: -Reheated well -Ribs were my favourite -Sides were yummy -Cornbread was okay- the size was very small for the price -To include a side of gravy or sauce to accompany the meats -If they had it all in an oven-safe take-home pan to allow for easy reheat as instead of the paper (from leaking) would be great! -FRIES or warmed potato side would be great! -To include cornbread or a dessert to the combo in a reheatable tray would be great too! Overall, would recommend and fed all of us for the evening and for the next day too! I wouldn't recommend the sandwiches if you are feeling extra hungry!

Yelp
Moved back to Toronto after many years in the southern US. This place gets it 100% right - low, slow and smoky. The burnt ends are especially excellent.

Yelp
Arrived home after a full week traveling for business so decided to get some legit BQ and did a quick search for options in Toronto. Despite living walking distance to Beach Hill Smokehouse had never given it a try. What a bad call on my part as this spot is the REAL DEAL! Trust me on matters related to Barbecue and in particular ribs and brisket I set the bar high. Travelling extensively for work in all parts of the US I frequently seek out the local top dogs for BQ in towns in the southern US states. Having eaten BQ Jackson Mississippi, Memphis TN, Baton Rogue Louisiana, Oklahoma City, Greenville NC and more local BQ haunts then I can list my the taste buds judge from extensive experience. So to find this gem of a BQ joint in my backyard was amazing. Only bummer was when I arrived with my family it was the evening and as often happens at great BQ spots the days supply of smoky goodness was sold out. So we missed out on the ribs. The other great thing about this spot is the staff are so friendly and leap through hoops to make you feel welcome. The staff put together a generous family platter since they had no ribs for us that had my family sitting in silence as we all devoured in quiet joy the array of meats they laid out for us. We had their Brisket, wings, sausage, and pork back bones with macaroni salad and coleslaw. All smoked food was uniformly well done and suspect anyone who seeks these guys out will be equally happy they drove to the upper beach neighbourhood for their next BQ fix.

Yelp
You don't want none of this! Because you'll have to carve out an hour every week to come get this. You'll have to schedule your life around, "when is the next time I can get some brisket?" See this ain't no casual meal, this is serious Q. Ask yourself, "Am I ready to eat hard?" If the answer is no, don't come. Because the brisket will make you wanna slap somebody's mama. Then sausage will have you in the confessional wondering if dreaming of it is a sin. The sauce will make you go home and discard all those facsimilies masquerading as barbecue sauce. I've lived in Texas, I can vouch for this team. Their brisket is 'bout it, 'bout it! I'll be back and I'll make time to sit, savor and shake my head as the goodness dribbles down my beard. You have 168 hours in the next week, dedicate one of them to get this here grub and solve your problem.

Yelp
I think I've lost count of how many barbecue joints have proudly claimed to serve Southern style BBQ but have absolutely failed at that task. Add another one to the list. Admittedly, when I walked into Beach Hill Smokehouse, I was positive I was in for a smoky, authentic barbecue experience. The air in the joint is thick with that smokiness one craves from this sort of restaurant, and indeed, my clothes stank of the stuff for the rest of the day. Appearances can be deceiving, unfortunately. I was in the mood for a sandwich, so I decided to go with The Austin ("moist and tender brisket sandwich drizzled with a signature Texas BBQ sauce and topped with a bone"). I also ordered a side order of the day's special, Loaded Smoked Baked Beans. The sandwich was ready a few minutes later and it didn't look like much, admittedly. (The pork rib sitting atop the concoction helped, though.) I started with that pork rib and it's fine. It didn't have much of a smoky flavor but the meat was tender and the rub, though a little saltier than I would've liked, worked well. It was enhanced by a liberal application of their barbecue sauce. (That sauce ultimately turned out to be the highlight of the meal.) As for the sandwich, it was...okay. The meat was relatively tender, but unfortunately that's where the positives end. There wasn't a hint of smokiness contained within, and, worse yet, the meat was disappointingly dry. It almost tasted like reheated, leftover brisket. I wound up compensating by drowning the 'wich in that barbecue sauce. The Loaded Smoked Baked Beans were (surprise, surprise) not smoky at all, but the plentiful portion was nevertheless pretty tasty. The search for real Southern barbecue in our fair city continues.

Yelp
I stopped by the other day to look at the menu and I was impressed. So we ordered some barbecue to pick up and take home. It was so tender and juicy. Finally some real Texas barbecue in the city and bonus points for being right around the corner from my house. The owner was very nice. I like the fact that it's a family run place. Sorry Hogtown Smoke, but this is my new go to place. 31/1/18 I stopped by on the way home. I skipped lunch downtown and it was 13:45 hours. So I ordered 1/2 lb of Texas brisket. Now brisket scares me. It's one of my favourite cuts of beef. But so many pit masters give you some that's dry and drowning in sauce. Or something that needs an oil change. This bit of brisket was perfect. It was moist and with the right amount of fat on it. Remember only a New Yorker will order lean brisket. It's like ordering a vegetarian steak. The best part was that it was only covered in dry rub. You could taste the spices accenting the flavour of the meat supporting the taste of the smoke. In my humble opinion Texas barbecue is the only true barbecue. And friends, we are so lucky to have the real deal right here. Now if you're lucky enough to read this before Saturday listen up. They are closed on Sundays. So they have put together a Super Bowl menu that you can pre order for pick up on Saturday.

Yelp
Now I know what a smoke brisket should taste like. As other reviewers have posted....it's a must. The ribs were "nah" ...too much cartilage, not enough meat...wasn't fall off the bone. Beans were tasty, as well as the mac an cheese. Sausage was crisp. They have a special for 4, would have liked a special for 2. Definitely will return to get my meat coma but going to stick with the brisket next time.

Yelp
Brisket, burnt ends smoked chicken wings and devilled egg potato salad. Great smoke flavor. Brisket juicy

Yelp
Major disappointment. Portions were super small. Everything was extremely salty. Beans were dry and clumped together. Everything was ice cold when it arrived and this is a common complaint of most reviewers. Brisket was flavourless!

Yelp
I should preface this review with the fact that I've lived in the south, on the border of Texas and used to have authentic Texas bbq on the regular, so I'm kinda fussy about my bbq. We have eaten here in the past but ordered delivery this time. We ordered a half pound each of the brisket and ribs with cole slaw and peach cobbler. The total was just over $50, certainly no bargain. You'd get double that for the same price in Texas, but is on par for Toronto bbq. When we opened the packages, the meat smelled like liquid smoke...and tasted like it at first bite, too. The overall flavour was delicious, but the quality of meats was questionable; the brisket was disgustingly fatty and the ribs were nearly vegetarian (meatless). There was no bbq sauce included for either meat. We loved the cole slaw and the cobbler was cinnamonny and delicious. It's ok enough for Toronto, especially if you can't or don't have the time to cook your own.

Yelp
Oh my goodness! Everything here is amazing! I went here for the first time today, and from the "look and feel" of the restaurant, to the unbelievably warm hospitality upon entering, to the FOOD (which was alarmingly delicious...); everything was basically perfect. I opted for the Austin sandwich, and my partner got the Lockhart sandwich. The Austin sandwich was moist, perfect fatty and juicy, and very filling. My partner describes his sandwich as "Great" (a man of many words, clearly...lol). We got the potato salad and the Mac & cheese to split as sides. The Mac & cheese is easily the best I've ever had. So creamy! So cheesy! I will definitely be returning for a large order of this - it's PURE comfort food. For dessert, we got banana pudding. I've never had banana pudding before and actually gasped because it was so yummy. The environment here is very casual, even the way you order your food is very quick, and laid back, easy. It reminds me of hanging out and eating with friends at a BBQ. Still, the restaurant itself looks pretty nice and is still appropriate for a fun date. I would definitely return.
