The Best Hotels for a Country Wedding Outside of New York

"On 62 verdant acres a couple of miles from the beach in Cape May, this working farm grows more than a hundred varieties of fruits and vegetables and raises chickens and Berkshire hogs—ingredients that can anchor wedding menus served family‑style or plated. Five guest houses (three barns and two cottages) mix indoor fireplaces and outdoor fire pits with décor that marries classic farmhouse utility to colorful modernist style, with the option to explore by bike or even golf cart." - David Shortell

Beach Plum Farm Cottages (Cape May, New Jersey) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The southernmost point on the Jersey Shore, Cape May has little in common with the resort towns to its north. The town’s Victorian mansions are authentic examples of the form, and a mile to the west of town, Beach Plum Farm occupies 62 bucolic acres of verdant agricultural land. To the working farm have been added five guest houses, some renovated, some new: three barns and a pair of cottages, to be precise." - Tablet Hotels

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Hill Barn! Ed and Marco were absolutely wonderful and were so responsive & helpful during our stay! They helped us with our itinerary, provided excellent recommendations and made our dinner reservations for us. The cottage was stunning and extremely clean. The farm grounds are surreal. It is breathtaking there. You can’t get a bad meal at the market and everyone is so friendly! I highly recommend going to one of their farm to table dinners. Best food and service we have ever had! They also went out of their way to make it extra special for our one year old daughter, especially Ed, which was so greatly appreciated. I literally do not have anything negative to say about this place! We can’t wait to go back!

We stayed at the Hill Barn and absolutely loved our stay. The lodging itself was pristine - well-spaced out, clean, and beautifully decorated. There were thoughtful details everywhere -- fresh eggs, juice, and milk in the fridge and challah bread and blackberry jam on the counter. The cottage had several private outdoor areas, and our own firepit the staff offered to help us with. The eclipse was happening when we were there, and the staff even provided glasses for us without us asking (just one of the many details they attended to!). Ed and Marco, the innkeepers, went above and beyond the call of duty, checking in with us (but not overly so) to ensure our stay was perfect. Ed kindly took us for a nice tour of the property, allowing us to feed the pigs and chickens, and telling us some history about the place. There is no doubt that he made us feel comfortable and happy with our stay. The kitchen itself provided delicious food promptly, which we ate outside on the pretty picnic tables by the gardens. When we first read about the location, we worried that a "farm" might be too rustic for us - but this location is chic, modern, clean, and wonderfully maintained. It is a first rate experience. We will be returning!

Cool farm to visit with beautiful raised bed garden area. Nice store as well and a bistro area out back too. We rode our bikes here, which wasn't far from the house where we stayed at Cape May Point. Can't comment on the cottages since we didn't stay there. There was also an event venue there which looked really lovely.

I have a lifetime of memories vacationing in Cape May, but my Intention Stay at the end of March was exceptional! It was a perfect blend of food, pampering, and health. A small group of 6 people bonded during our stay under the guidance and hosting of Ed Hackett. Ed's love and knowledge of sustainable farming, culinary background and humor entertained us all.The staff was very attentive, starting with Justin the Innkeeper, and Rob the chef who paid such attention to detail, not to mention the best massages I've ever had.The group melded together over superb food, wine, and hikes. We laughed until we cried.I am so looking forward to going back.

Spent a week in The Hidden Barn and could not have been more pleased. Excellent family vacation that gave us so|many wonderful experiences. The farm life, the beach life, relaxing pool, great food! The staff was superb and attentive. Special mentions go to Jen, Mitzi, Will, Kyle, and Katie! These staff members went above and beyond with daily smiles and showed how much they love their job! Terrific customer service!

Came here for a summer family vacation and couldn't have been happier! The cottages are all amazing and comfortable. Although some rooms could use more dressers/drawers for unpacking (upstairs at Whalers, upstairs at Hill are the rooms I stayed in. I loved the property, warm pool, flowers, nature. I loved the outdoor showers! Those were a fun surprise. The golf carts are so fun to bop around town in. They give you bacon and jam and fresh farm eggs, a small milk. Very tasty! Was nice to cook breakfast. Oh, I loved the bluetooth Marshall speakers! A small but well appreciated detail. Special thanks to Ed and Richard-very hospitable fellows! Would definitely return. Only trouble is what season to go next! I can imagine all having something special to offer.

My family and I stayed here for two nights and wished we stayed longer! We stayed at the Plum Barn, which was absolutely beautiful and cozy. We had the breakfast tray delivered each morning and had our fridge stocked with farm produce, and had a great time relaxing on the farm, feeding the chickens with our son and looking at the pigs. It's also extremely close to the mall and Congress Hall area, as well as the beach, and they give you complimentary golf carts to ride down there if you want. The service was also fantastic, all the way from check-in through the farm market staff. We will come back in a heartbeat!

Just got back from staying the weekend at Beach Plum Farm. WOW, wow wow. The grounds are beautiful! We stayed in the Plum Barn and all weekend long we couldn't stop talking about the barn! It's an old carriage house restored with modern amenities. The pictures on the site don't do it justice. The pool, use of the bikes and golf cart, the fire pit it was all just great to use. The market was also so adorable and has the cutest gifts and foods to purchase. The location is also great as it's so close to a winery and very close to the beach and also downtown Cape May. The staff was super great and responsive to us all weekend long whenever we needed anything. I'd recommend a stay here FOR SURE. Can't say enough great things. Book a stay, you won't regret it!

Yelp
Luxury in the woods less than a mile from the beach. The HillCottage is a magnificent 3 bd 2ba retreat with every 1st class detail. My family spend a long weekend at the cottage and were blown away by the amazing quality of everything the resort has to offer. Our cottage came with bicycles and a golf cart which we used to drive all over Cape May. Staff were extraordinary they went out of their way to make sure everything was just perfect. The staff even stopped by at night to light our bonfire in the backyard. We have now stayed at all of Cape resort properties and by far this is our favorite.
