Breakfast Club: Our Picks for Early-Morning Prawn Mee

"And here's the aptly named second spinoff that's also run by a member of the original hawker's family; another grandson, we're told. The prawn mee here tastes and looks the part." - Alethea Tan

$9.50 for option #2 which came with 1.5 sliced prawns (dirt not removed as seen in photo, that were not fresh as meat sticks to shell). soup was salty with barely any prawn taste. the pork ribs were not tender. very very disappointing considering it's supposedly a "famous" prawn noodle. it's my first time here, and definitely my last. my folks also felt the standard has dropped significantly and sadly we will not be visiting again. I've had better prawn noodles at random stalls in the hawker, and at a better price point too.

I've been eating Beach Road Prawn Noodles since i was a kid when my mum first brought me. I still love it now. I've tried both dry and soup versions. Love both but my personal preference is still the dry version with the soup on the side cause I also love their chilli. I still feel their soup is the best and their portion size is generous. Love their pig tail prawn and jumbo prawn noodles.

Food taste average to me, as the soup is not thick nor flavourful enough in my personal opinion. Noodles was not cooked long enough to absorb any taste. Spare ribs are quite hard. Service is great, clean and fast clearing of tables. Ngo Hiang also average. In general, food is decent, but consider a bit pricey for that standard. Tiktok: SA Soln IG: sgfood13

I’ve been a loyal customer of Beach Road Prawn Mee for over 14 years. My parents used to bring me here when I was young, and now I bring my own children—but sadly, the experience just isn’t the same anymore. I first noticed the decline in both food quality and service towards the end of last year, and decided to give it another try today—unfortunately, it was disappointing again. The soup broth used to be rich, fragrant, and full of umami. Now it tastes bland and lacks the depth it once had. Service-wise, everything is self-service now, which is fine, but the process feels disorganised. There are no clear instructions, especially when it comes to collecting drinks, which makes the experience frustrating. The Wu Xiang is still decent, but nothing particularly special—you can find similar quality elsewhere. It would be nice to see more variety too. It really saddens me to write this because this place holds so many fond memories. I’ve also seen several others sharing the same feedback, so I truly hope the team can take it seriously and work on improving. I want to be able to bring my kids back to enjoy the same great taste I grew up with.

Google
It was so delicious. It tastes very clean. I really liked the Thai chili pepper that came with it. It usually comes with soy sauce, but I liked it because it was served separately so it didn‘t overpower the taste of the soup. If you eat everything and drink the soup with spicy chili peppers... it‘s the best. I tried fried food for the first time and the sauce that came with it was really great. The iced tea was also the best. I would 100% come back.

The place was already full and there was a que at around 10am on saturday. Turn around was quick so didn't have to wait long. Once you're assigned a table, take note of the table number and proceed to the counter inside the store to place your order & pay. Food was served within 10mins. Tried their standard dry prawn noodle ($6.50), wasn't impressed. Soup was diluted, lacking the oomph. Dry noodles were quite bland too despite the chili paste provided. There are better ones out there.

Not my favourite prawn noodle though. We were lucky to not to queue as we were early. The soup version is nicer as the soup was tasteful. The dry version is a bit too dry. It’s OK. But not my favourite.

Used to frequent this place often for their prawn mee but I feel their standards have dropped significantly. The broth isn’t as flavourful anymore. Portions are smaller and prices have went up too. Good thing about this place is that you don’t have to wait so long even if there is a queue because of the high turnover rate.

Yelp
First time visiting, we ordered a #3 Prawn with pig tail mee and a bunch of sides from next door Taste 1/1* Prawn mee broth was absolutely amazing, pig tails were soft, gelatin packed, and fall off the bone, prawns however were not cleaned well Value 1/1* Decent pricing Service 1/1* Fast and friendly Cleanliness 0/1* Birds flying in kitchen, straws served with bare hands Overall/Revisit 1/1* Would revisit for the broth and pig tail Paying for ambience? 0/-1* NO Above and beyond? 0/+1* NO

Yelp
The prawn noodles were pretty good. The soup was very flavourful. The fried onions were still crispy - a first! The ngor hiong was so so, though a lot of people ordered it together with the prawn noodles. They're just riding off the prawn noodle crowd. The sweet chili was nice but the rest was only ok.

Yelp
Still one of my favorite prawn noodles place. Absolutely yummy. The broth is rich and the prawns are big. I like mine with pork ribs in the same prawny broth. Another favorite accompaniment is Ngoh Hiang. A medley of deep fried spring rolls, fish balls and fish cakes.

Yelp
Every time we head to Singapore we find ourselves at Beach Road Prawn Mee Eating House at least once, if not twice during our short stay. It's always been consistent and has that awesome depth of flavour from the concentrated broth. I'm not usually a big fan of soup or egg noodles in a soup but the broth is incredible and I always end up drinking the broth that others can't finish. Just watch if you sprinkle any extra chilli powder when windy because I ended up with some in my eye whilst sitting in the outdoor eating area. This got everyone laughing but isn't quite as funny being on the hot end. lol! If you're ever in Singapore, this is a must see or taste spot on your adventure the food paradise that is Singapore.

Yelp
Is it good? It's pretty decent, but I prefer Malaysian style prawn noodles more, those broth are more shrimpy. My main complaint with this place is that as a tourist, getting here from downtown is a major pain in the ass. Buses take forever, and taxi to here is not cheap. Definitely is not worth the trek unless you own a car or something.

Yelp
Overated and pricey. The reason why the area is jammed up because of the double parking My honest opinion and review about this prawn noodle. Nothing personal

Yelp
Hands down, this is the best prawn noodle establishment in singapore I've tried so far. Tbey used the broth from cooking the prawns for the soup, which gives the taste of prawns in it. This is always my first stop when I'm in singapore...dried prawn noodles with lime juice. Great way to start my visit and morning

Yelp
Stepped out for a morning coffee run, and ended up with prawn mee with pork ribs. Can't explain how it happens, but you know me... and you know Singapore. There's always something awesome around the corner. So I meant to grab a coffee with some folks at Penny University, but our friends who'd got there before us decided that hunger pangs needed to be dealt with first. So off they went to Beach Road Prawn Noodle House. And that never ends well... for my wallet. As the name suggests, they are specialists, and their prawn broth is SO ROCKSTAR. I always get the dry noodles with pork ribs - I feel the noodles don't get as soggy and soup-laden (not that it's a bad thing), and I get to drink the soup separately, apart from the chili and what nots that find their way into the bowl. My only beef (okay not beef, but you get it) is that prices have gone UP. Now this is how it looks: small - $5.80 medium - $8.80 large - $10.80 I understand prawns and pork ribs aren't cheap... but this is pretty mad. So do your wallet, and your cholesterol level a favour, and ration out your visits. After all, the worst thing you could do to yourself is get sick of great food.

Yelp
Hands down, the best prawn mee noodle house ever. Beach Road Prawn Noodle House quickly made it to the top of my list of must eat places in Singapore. Prawns are large and fresh, and are cut in a way such that it's relatively painless to slide the shells off the meat. The noodle bowls come in three sizes- small, medium, jumbo. You can choose to have your noodles in a soup, or dry (with soup on the side). And from your noodles, you can choose thin rice noodles or chewy egg noodles, or a combination of both! I tried both noodles, and both were cooked to a perfect texture. The broth here has a heavy prawn flavor, and you can tell it's been cooked with rich seafood. Other prawn mee places have broths that barely have prawn flavors to it, and taste mostly like pork. I don't usually drink broth for a noodle soup, but I downed this one like there was no tomorrow. Never in my life have I eaten a bowl of noodles and soup so quickly before. This place was so good that I ended up coming here multiple times within the span of a few days.

Yelp
I have been eating at this place for many many years. The prawn noodle are very good. This place is so close from my place, so I will come back again. Over the years, the price are growing quite a bit. There is a S$10.80 bowl of Prawn Noodle, this contains the larger size prawns. I definitely will be back.

Yelp
One of the best prawn noodle house in Singapore. Soup is savory and filled with prawn flavour. Prawns are generously sized and fresh. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Same style as the Jultan Sultan Prawn Noodles located at Kallang/Geylang. Even right down to serving lime juice/barley and goh hiang as a side. Tasty soup broth with lots of prawn and pork flavor. Yumz. This one has expanded to two outlets so finding a seat is not too difficult. It is the parking that kills you. Lots of illegal parking along the road but you do run the risk of making your bowl of noodles $70 more expensive.

Yelp
My frequent breakfast haunt. Quality is not very consistent. Sometimes, the prawn stock is diluted. Today's stock is too salty. Well, a more forgiving way of looking at this is that there is a human behind the cooking and not a machine, thus the fluctuations in taste. Don't put bean sprouts and fried shallots in for a purer taste of the prawn stock. Waiter has a bad attitude.

Yelp
An unexpected find! So good!!! Drove pass and saw such a big crowd and decided to join in. 1. Prawn mee with pork ribs - the broth was great! although they didn't give a lot of noodles. - pork was good. prawns as expected. - pricing per bowl was $5.50-10 (for the jumbo). I think it's quite pricey considering it's a coffee shop open air type place (in Singapore). 2. Ngoh hiong - they shared the coffee shop space (2 units) with a Ngoh Hiong shop. I think it's probably owned by the same people. - Ngoh hiong was good! We ordered the i) you tiao with fishcake, ii) money bags (kinda like a fried wanton), iii) some fried beancurb skin with fishcake (this was so thin & crispy), iv)spring rolls. Everything was great! except the spring rolls (don't bother ordering that). - The red sauce that accompanied the Ngoh Hiong was awesome! sweet yet a little spicy at the same time. Definitely will head back for more prawn mee & ngoh hiong :) Only draw back was the parking - super hard to get a spot! and the parking attendent comes pretty frequently to fine people who were illegally parking on the double yellow lines (be warned).

Yelp
Very nice prawn noodle that catch the essences of local taste. Average price is 6 dollars per bowl. We had a soup noodle and a dried noodle and they are excellent lunch choice.

Yelp
Food is good, specializing in prawn mee. My fav is the soup version. Stock is rich with prawn and pork flavors. It is however pricy given what you get, a small bowl. Also no aircon in the restaurant. But it's rustic and very heart land feel to it. Great for a quick bite. The pork rib is not the best considering the price I would have expected a higher quality, like prime rib. You can also get pig tail, which was nicely cooked and tender. Go there with tee shirt and shorts during the day otherwise you will sweat buckets and detract from enjoying the food.

Yelp
Congratulations are in order if you rock up on a weekend morning and manage to grab a table. Every time I pass this place, it's either bursting at the seams or closed. I've been coming here since I was a kid and the price of the prawn mee, like my girth, has increased exponentially. Which is a bit ridiculous, isn't it? Why would anyone pay upwards of $5 for a bowl of prawn mee, and still have to put in the labour of peeling the shell? Er. That would be me, actually. The soup is thick and flavourful, the pork rib, tender, and the chili powder. Oh, the chili powder. The soup would be incomplete without a couple of heavy handed dashes of spice. Noodles are fairly standard, but it's the soup that delivers a warming kick in the pants. Parking, like most of the Katong/Joo Chiat stretch is treacherous. We've only ever illegal parked there before, and even so, that gives you two lots to play with. Good luck fighting with the hungry hoards over the limited space.

Yelp
This place is the very first place I got my bowl of "big prawn noodles" and is still my favourite place for a bowl of good prawn noodles. I had the soup version when I was younger but have grown to love the "dry" version. You can order your noodles in soup or with soup on the side - the latter makes for a better choice because you will be able to enjoy the rich broth in its original form, especially fantastic when spiced up with a bit of chilli from the noodles. If you are having the noodles dry, mix in some chilli powder and you'll get a kick out of eating this bowl of noodles. There are people who pick the pork ribs and prawn option. You can also request to have your prawns deshelled. But I think the original works super well for me.

Yelp
One of the "legendary" Prawn noodle outlets in Singapore. A bowl of prawn noodles used to cost just $3.50 a few years ago. Now, the price has gone up to $5.50 for a regular bowl. The portion you get isn't really what you'd expect from paying $5.50 but I still think it's worth a try. What I like about prawn noodle places is that the soup they give is usually quite tasty, and Beach Road Prawn Mee is no different. I always find myself going for refills of the soup. Another good thing about the place is that there is a Ngoh Hiang Stall within the premises. Likewise, a little pricey but it's a pleasant addition to your prawn noodle experience.

Yelp
Oh man, another Singaporean noodle bowl that packs a bunch of flavor that I know I won't ever be able to reproduce at home. The noodles were cooked to perfection but as with every noodle bowl, the broth was out of this world. That's a good enough reason to visit.

Yelp
Always my favourite prawn mee soup. Good robust prawn flavour in the soup and noodles always cooked well. Pork ribs also nice and tender. Not sure why ngoh hiang stalls are regularly found alongside prawn mee. The ngoh hiang here also quite good.
