Sea-Tac Scores Sunset Fried Chicken and Skillet | Eater Seattle

"A French spot called Lummi Marché and Bar is coming from French chef Thierry Rautureau, which suggests a chef-driven French offering will be part of the new dining roster." - Megan Hill

Talk about an unassuming gem! The Beach Store Cafe completely blew us away. Since it’s the only restaurant on Lummi Island, we weren’t sure what to expect, but wow, were we pleasantly surprised. We went for dinner and sat out on the patio right by the water, which made for a beautiful, peaceful setting. The service was incredible! Everyone was so kind and welcoming. And the food? Insane. The fish and chips might just be the best I’ve ever had. I would go back just for those. All around, it was a phenomenal experience. Delicious food, amazing service, and a view to top it all off. Don’t miss this place if you’re on the island!

We stopped in and were not disappointed! The food is locally sourced and delicious. We had fish & chips and chowder. We will definitely be back, I want to try the pizza! It's walking distance from the ferry for the win.

Google
What a lovely little spot! Great food, beautiful views, kind staff. We got the squash salad, the seafood chowder, and blueberry crisp. Every single item was delicious. It's even better than I had expected.

Google
So glad we stopped in for a bite. Great food! Superb service and our food came out so quickly. Also a great view.

Google
This was a very busy place, obviously popular with the locals and visitors to the island. We found a table for two easily and there were plenty of outdoor tables available as well. The service was warm and friendly but professional. My hamburger was delicious as was my wife's seafood chowder. We will go there again for another meal even though we brought food with us for our weekend.

Google
Food was outstanding the fish and chips were so delicious and the seafood chowder was so good. The crème brûlée and rubarb strawberry crumble with ice cream were delicious also. Come have lunch or dinner here.

We sat on the porch and enjoyed one of the most incredible views of Mt Baker along with some amazing food. I had the Chicken and Spinach salad and loved it. The best part was the chicken and how nicely crispy it was. The bacon was also incredible. The German beer options were also a nice surprise. If you’re going to visit Lummi Island, make sure to include a stop at the BSC!

I alway try a restaurant several times.. And this one has been surprising me more often than not. 09/12/24 visit. I have been ordering out before this and don't update this then. Today however I looked at the menu and specials and ate in. The regular menu often has seasonal items and I have been waiting for the Island grown heirloom tomatoes. They are as always so good. Started with the Shititake Mushroom Tempora (I always order it when offered), then Heirloom Tomato Panaanella, followed by the Handmade Rotolo pasta dish. Finished off with Plum Brown Butter Crisp with Ice Cream. The plums actually are from a tree on the property which has historic significance. As always, I encourage you to try the specials.. (photos included) 11/25/23 visit. I have never had a birthday party, but I always treat myself to a restaurant that I know will make me purr. So of course I came here again. Had the Lummi Island Seafood Chowder which was brimming with smoked salmon & with Cod.. Added in were all the rest of the fresh ingredients making a great start to the meal. It was accompanied by herb butter and Gluten free French bread.. The pasta special had fennel in it, and again I trusted his culinary skills (I generally dislike fennel) and it was Perfect . . Just the right flavor balance, and portion size. So I was a very happy man with a clean plate. Finishing off with Desert that is, as always, excellent. So I had the meal and great time there I desired! 9/17/23 visit. I don't like fennel, but I trust the Chef totally so I ordered the daily special Pasta dish which included fennel sausage.. And it was wonderful. He has an excellent balance to his dishes, and this one was as well. I actually had planned to take half of it home, but oops it was all gone. Couldn't stop eating it, as it's so rare that I enjoy a dish with fennel. Bravo. 4th visit: I really love their Arugula and Citrus Salad and now get it with each meal (when it is available). For the main I ordered one of the specials, Pan Seared New York Strip Steak with Asparagus, Haystack Potatoes (not my favorite type, but well executed), Bearnaise Sauce on the steak and Jus. on the Asparagus. Steak was perfect medium rare, Asparagus perfect and large portion. I then wanted the local Hillcrest farms Rhubarb & Strawberry's as a Crisp, but it was already sold out (good sign).. So I considered my other options and With Hesitation ordered the Flourless Mint Chocolate Torte w/whipped cream and a Candied Mint Leaf. For decades, every Flourless torte I have had was a disaster. HOWEVER, this one was spot on texture, good size and very good flavor.. Not overly minty, just a hint. It was so good that I ordered a 2nd to go. My compliments to the chef. 3rd visit: Arugula and Citrus Salad, with the Lamb and Pasta special. I don't often run into places that have a Lamb special, so will alway try it. This was very well prepared and I was purring. 2nd visit: The burgers looked good, so I ordered one with "greens" instead of the fries. The "greens" and dressing were excellent and the burger was delicious, blue cheese on it was very good and all the rest of the fixings were as well. It had a nice grill flavor and was served piping hot. They also had a special that I would have gotten, but I saw no signage for it (I'll look / ask next time). So ask immediately so you can get it. It was a steak and looked great. There was also a very nice little group of musicians playing that evening. 1st visit: The cod (fish&chips) was good and moist. Portions of fish were good sized. Way too many fries (especially since they were limp). The place is popular though, and has a great view. Service was flawless and friendly.

Yelp
Given it is the only restaurant on the island I didn't have a very high expectation. However, it completely exceeded my expectation. Beautiful view overlooking the water , and fresh local flowers on every table. Food wise my favorite was the burger. It also has a big selection for coffee, drinks, and tea.

Yelp
I must say, from beginning to end, just completely satisfied. We received exceptional service from Amanda. She was happy to be at work and made sure that we were taken care of! And the food... Exceeded my expectations. We had a table of six people, and I got to try a bunch of different things. They really have done it right. I am really excited to come back. I don't say that often... Lol.

Yelp
Excellent food, lovely interior, outside seating is nice for good weather days. I recommend trying the specials.

Yelp
We had to come back for opening weekend and we're so glad we did! Arrived by 530 and the place was packed, fireplace on, all warm and cozy. Tried the appetizer special which was albacore tuna on crostini with a little spicy slaw and pomegranate seeds. Delicious. Crunchy cold and spicy. Also had the burger, the salmon fish and chips, the sausage pizza and the Greek fries. Everything was top notch. Fries were super crisp ( not homemade but good for frozen) and covered in mizithra cheese, donair sauce and meat. Could've used a bit more sauce but they were still really tasty. Pizza here is epic if you like Detroit style. That crust!! Anyway, if you haven't been over, check it out. They also have live music on occasion. And jsyk we walk on the 510 ferry at gooseberry and eat a leisurely dinner, take the 7 pm boat back and are home in just about the same time it takes us to drive downtown and back for dinner, but it feels a bit more special :)

Yelp
This place is so incredibly cute and cozy! Visited with a few friends and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Dogs are allowed on their outside patio and they were so thoughtful to even bring us a water bowl and some dog treats during our meal. We ordered the fish and chips, the beach store smash burger, the bread with brown butter, and the Lucanica pizza. All were quite yummy. The cod was incredibly fresh and the house made tartar paired with it perfectly. The burger had a good amount of char from being smashed and was topped with a ooey gooey piece of Tillamook cheddar (drool). The lucanica pizza had perfect bites of ricotta and sausage sprinkled throughout. I really enjoyed the brown butter as well - you really can't go wrong with bread and butter but the nuttiness added an extra layer of flavour that kept me coming back for more despite being stuffed. Would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Lummi, especially because it's right across from the ferry so you can sit back and relax for a bit while you await your ride back!

Yelp
I love their menu, the specials, the pizzas, and the mussels! The service and waitstaff are really nice and manage to keep a cool head when the place is slammed. It's currently my favorite restaurant on the Lummi as well as the Whatcom County!

Flik W.

Yelp
Best. Smashburger. Anywhere. Seriously. We travel to Lummi Island from Seattle every couple of months and have been dining at BSC for about 17 years. We've had everything on the menu and loved it all - but especially that smashburger. We've tried to find something comparable in Seattle, we've been everywhere, but no one does it like they do. And nothing like the hospitality, excellent service, low-key loveliness of this special place. We adore BSC. We adore Lummi. Our home away from home. Can't wait to be back next week!

Yelp
Pleasant place for casual dining while visiting Lummi Island. We four had dinner. SERVICE: 4.5. Very friendly and attentive. We felt welcome. FOOD: 4.0. - Fish & Chips: Fresh fish with safely bland tartar sauce (and free optional malt vinegar which I didn't get), Decent fries. OK cole slaw with bland mayonnaise dressing. - Sicilian Seafood Salad. Fresh ingredients. She didn't particularly like the (lemon) mayonnaise dressing. AMBIANCE: 4.0. Friendly neighborhood atmosphere. Interior seating. Two outdoor seating areas: in front facing waterfront on wooden deck and in back on lawn with picnic tables. A band was playing enjoyable folksy music in the back outside dining area.

Yelp
We visited here the times during our week long stay on Lummi. All of the food we had was good, however the seafood chowder was my favorite. The bread comes with the most delicious browned butter and bay. The butter alone was probably my second favorite thing... they should put it in jars and sell it. We also had their fun guy pizza, mussels, seafood salad and fish & chips. The restaurant has changed hands through the years, keeping the same name. The current staff is great. They do not serve breakfast at this time.

Yelp
By @iwanttobewhatieat So in love with the @beachstorecafe on Lummi Island. The food was delicious and the service was delightful. I highly recommend the Lucanica Pizza, mouth watering. We also had the tempura vegetables, flavor was awesome but really just a pile of tempura onions and three slivers of other vegetables. I would pass on this if you don't like onions. Sit on the deck and try to sit in the young lady from England's section, her customer service delivery was A+++. They open at 4PM and it's a great spot to sit and watch the water with a glass of wine.

Yelp
Every dish was a 10/10, made with fresh, local ingredients. The service was super friendly, and the location is beautiful with views of Lummi Bay. They were very accommodating for gluten-free! 100% recommend.

Yelp
Oh my, oh my! The pan seared locally caught Reef net Coho Salmon was spectacular! My hubby ordered the Fun-guy, which he said is his fav pizza ever.

Yelp
This restaurant couldn't have been any more delightful. From the beautiful setting, the view and outdoor seating options to the delicious food-- this is a must do! Everything we ordered was incredible and we highly recommend salmon fettuccine and lavender Creme brûlée!

Yelp
The Beach Store Cafe is one of the only restaurants on Lummi Island, but they do a great job. It's close to the ferry and has a great view of the water. The dining room is large with gray outdoor seating. Unfortunately, it was raining when I visited, but they worker said they have a lot of live music during the summer months at their outdoor stage. I'm excited to come back then. They have an espresso maker, so you can still get your lates and mochas. I came here for breakfast and it was delicious. Everyone is super friendly with the small town attitude. I'll be back if I'm ever on Lummi Island again.

Yelp
This place is just wonderful. We were so grateful to have so many gluten free options. The GF pizza was some of the best I've had and the fish n chips got rave reviews (especially the tartar). The salad was fantastic, as were the fried cauliflower. They also have vegan options including a Beyond burger and vegan cheese for the pizza. We really appreciated the thought put into "dining in" and take out. There are instructions on the website and thorough plans for both options. And masks were required inside. Staff were helpful and pleasant. Will definitely look forward to coming back here. You could even take the ferry over just for dinner if you live in Bellingham!

Yelp
Best service, great food, a highlight of Lummi Island community. Also featuring local artists and entertainment.

Yelp
Sunday breakfast is a must! They open at 9am, serving lovely options: Waffle with orange butter, omelettes, and an amazing Eggs Benedict with prosciutto! They also offer great coffee drinks! The staff were fantastic- above and beyond friendly! Friday night love music and pizza were also fantastic: Cesar salads were so good, we got one to go for later. We tried the chicken pizza which was amazing! And, the entertainment was really awesome - guitar and violin with wonderful singers. Well done Beach Store Cafe!!

Yelp
Disappointing compared to the previous owner, for which ingredients were always a highlight...:/ Service was sort of N/A cause we got take out Ambiance is great cause it's a cute space with an amazing location

Yelp
Dining at the Beach Store Cafe provides a unique experience if your not a native islander. Take the Lummi Ferry, I suggest walking on, and then walk about a block to the restaurant when walking off the ferry. If you get a nice day, between June 30 and September 30 most likely, along with the good food you have great views of Mount Baker. Like other posts noted, the pace of the service is deliberate, so expect to be at the cafe for over an hour. You wont' get shorted on the food as the portions are generous.
google avatar

Mark O.

Yelp
Great little restaurant with a fabulous view of Mt Baker and Bellingham Bay from their back porch. The varied menu includes gluten-free options.

Yelp
Have you ever kissed a mussel in beautiful brown butter sauce? I did, here. You should too.

Yelp
The business is slowly improving. The prices are still a bit high, but not worth avoiding. On our most recent visit I ordered the salmon fish and chips. The fries are quite possibly the best fries I have had EVER. The coleslaw had a strong fennel flavor, which I really enjoyed, and the caper laden tartar sauce was a nice touch. It should be noted the fries are legit fries and not the sad home style fried taters shown in a couple of the photos... My wife ordered the Big Mac analogue... Not impressed; the beef was still mooing and the cheese was still shredded rather than melted. Plus, it's a friggin Big Mac; what are we doing here? A grass fed burger with sharp cheddar cheese sounds great! Add shredded lettuce, pickles, Thousand Island dressing and a sesame seed bun and it no longer needs to be grass fed beef ...because it is now a Big Mac... That's like putting chrome wheels on a Ford Pinto and asking me to pay you for a Mustang... The waitresses were great. The waiter had his trucker's cap on backwards, wearing his little sister's shirt, focused more on the waitresses than the customers. Not sure the owners are getting their money's worth with that guy. I like the low-key atmosphere, I like the live music on the weekends, I like the happy hour menu. I think the service is still lackluster and the portions are either too small or the prices are too high (you pick). If they cook other stuff as well as their pizza or their fries, I might consider eating there more frequently. I am not sure whether the owners or the staff read these reviews, but if you do, you should know your waitresses and hostesses are doing a great job, knocking it out of the park, actually. However, one of your waiters and one of your burgers are a bit too relaxed and sloppy for the prices on the menu. Good food, made with attention and served with attention, would warrant these prices. Get the fries. Get the fish and chips. Get a pizza. Get a tall boy of PBR. Get a cup of coffee and enjoy the view. But don't get on a ferry just to eat here.
google avatar

Vili V.

Yelp
Love this place. It has the advantage of being the only place to eat on the island (save friend's kitchens and The Willows), but it doesn't need the advantage at all as it holds it's own. Delicious pasta...buttery, flavorful, fresh morsels of goodness. The meat is always fresh and the greens are always crisp and well dressed. I don't know if everything is grown on the island, but it certainly tastes like it. Acceptable wine list. Comfortable and friendly service. Definitely family friendly. Good for brunch too. It's a bit on the pricey side, but that's to be expected on an island. If you want something cheaper go buy a $6 bag of potato chips from the 90s at the general store down the road.

Yelp
*Incredible biscuits and gravy! *Everyone really enjoyed their food, we ate there twice and the Stumptown coffee, yum *I snuck a bit of corned beef sando, just wow!

Yelp
Ok, the Beach Store is now under new management, so my family and I decided to give it a second chance. I have to say, the food has improved 100%. We have yet to have a bad meal there since the re-opening, and the service is good. The bacon jam is a neat treat, they should totally be selling jars of this. The pizza is incredibly tasty, however it would be nice to have more options and a larger family size available. Although the other food is fantastic and a welcome addition to the island's culinary landscape, I think the restaurant could run on the strength of the pizza alone (especially if they added delivery on the island!) Being limited to just individual servings and a few toppings seems like a waste of what we thought was their best menu item. The new wine list is outstanding as well, with a variety of exquisite French wines at fairly affordable prices. If you are a wine fan you seriously should check out their wines. You aren't going to find a list like this at any other restaurant in Bellingham, I guarantee it. Overall, the relaunch is a great success and a welcome change. We look forward to dining here often.

Connie S.

Yelp
Delicious soup & wine. Fun night on Lummi great place to relax with friends. Can't wait for the live music nights.

Yelp
Beach House is a wonderful place to have s meal. The ferry ride from Gooseberry Point to Lummi Island is a short and beautiful. E walked on and the restaurant is a 10 min walk to the north. The breakfast was delicious and their portions are ample. They also have espressos available.
google avatar

Hal A.

Yelp
Moving review back up to four stars. Breakfast back with their delicious Eggs Benedict. Will need to try dinner again to make a decision on the last star.
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
Amazing!! This is a little gem on the wonderful Lummi Island. I went during the spring months and the wonderful view of Mt. Baker and watching the ferry was a Hallmark movie scene. They have a nice beer tap collection that changes. We started with the calamari in a sweet Asian sauce. The calamari was so tender. I had the knife and for grilled Cesar salad and the fish and chips. The salad was amazing, I hate salad but this made me want to come back for more. The fish and chips were good but not as wonderful had I thought they would be. If you are hanging out on Lummi Island this is a must!!
google avatar

Kellie M.

Yelp
The incredible food here makes up for the limited hours it is open. I live on Lummi Island and have been here with family. Excellent food, menu and proportions. Right off the water and prices are fair. I would always check out their website to make sure they will be open the day you visit the island. Well worth planning a meal here!
google avatar

Debbie B.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and walk-on the ferry to Lummi Island to eat here. The ferry ride is fun. The walk from the ferry is short. Skipping the VERY LONG LINE OF CARS trying to return by ferry is smart. The restaurant changed hands at some point and now the food is delicious and varied. We haven't made it to happy hour yet but that seems an obvious goal!

Yelp
This is really a combination review of Lummi Island and The Beach Store Cafe. We were in dire need of a quick road trip so in checking a few places online, we decided that Lummi Island would be a cool, quirky place to hang on a chilly Saturday in April. While I don't fault the island for the weather, had it been 80 and sunny, I think the trip would have been infinitely more interesting. As it was, it didn't rain (+), it stayed fairly mild (+) and the food was certainly better than expected (+). The only downside was that in reading some of the blogs about the island, the author(s) made it sound like there was some cute little "main street" - which there is not. The first thing I want to mention about Lummi Island is that the only way to get on there is by boat - an awesome little ferry, to be specific. It's literally bumper to bumper (you can't get out once your car is on the ferry) and if you're lucky enough to be the first car on (we were on the way back), it feels as if your car is floating on water! The ride is short (10 mins) but with the waves splashing and boat rocking, the experience is a lot of fun. Off the ferry we drove around the island a few times, stopping at a few "private" beaches (not sure what this meant seeing as there were no "No Trespassing" signs) and letting the dog run all around. We drove to the south end, checked out a few amazing vistas and even thought about a short hike (no dogs on trails = no hike). The initial plan was to have lunch at the Willows Inn but alas, they only serve dinner. The hostess there was extremely helpful and when asked where we could grab a beer and a burger, she pointed us to their other restaurant, the Beach Store Cafe. At first glance, we thought this place was very cute and homey - a small house-turned-restaurant, if you will. But looking further, we noticed a cool wood burning store, tiny bakery area, along with multiple COLD BEERS on tap. I mention the temperature of the beer because there's nothing like really, really cold keg beer. Anyway, we ordered two local brews, the fish & chips and a burger to split. The batter and fish used (?) for the fish & chips was very tasty - a perfect complement was the homemade tartar sauce. The burger was fine, nothing amazing but filling and it came with a great small salad. Had it been 20 degrees warmer, we remarked on how awesome it would have been to finish our beers on their skinny front deck. The plan is to come back sometime in the summer and really take the island in.
google avatar

Terri R.

Yelp
The atmosphere was fun, and the view was really nice. Unfortunately, our service was really slow, our server forgot to order our appetizer, and then forgot a drink order later. To their credit, the second (forgotten) round was on the house once we finally got it. We ordered pizza and it was "ok". They were super busy and seemed popular. I would give them one more try if I am ever on the island again - it might have been an off night.
google avatar

Fran S.

Yelp
Quaint restaurant with excellent food. Best fish & Chips I have ever had! And we loved their fries. Bolognese was well received by our 10 yo daughter as well as the pasta w/ beets dish my husband had. It war really good, surprisingly to me, I mean with the beats and all. Everything was tasty & well prepared! We will definitely be back next time on the island.

Molly H.

Yelp
We had the most delicious salmon tacos tonight and were impressed with the super, generous portions. Amazing views, friendly staff...what more could one ask for? Oh...their desserts rock too. We will be back!

Yelp
We decided to take a little day trip to Lummi Island. After driving around and exploring a few beaches we decided to stop here for a bite to eat. It was a beautiful day so we decided to sit on their front patio. Service was great. We enjoyed one of their fabulous pizzas. Crust was perfect. Crisp and a little chewy and not so thick. The toppings were so flavorful. We got the chorizo, green olive and onion pizza. So delicious. We also got a Caesar salad. Both were quite amazing and I will be craving this pizza in the days to come. Food was amazing. The place isn't stuffy or pretentious. Cute. Quaint and plenty of parking. You can even walk from the ferry if you don't bring a car. We will definitely be going again.

Yelp
personally why five stars? I prefer good food but without a clean, non-pretentious and relaxing context for eating, the place isn't worth writing about. So much said; I look forward to stopping here in the evenings to enjoy a good meal and music. (These days; F,S, part of Sunday in winter and expand in spring to most days). Sometimes we're rushing in off the ferry and don't feel like cooking, or we're just wanting a cozy and romantic evening. We know we'll eat well, relax and dress as we are. Same for the Sunday or Saturday breakfast/lunches. The owners Tess and her husband have taken this formerly frustrated and slightly pretentious stop and turned it into one of the pleasant "home" stops. We often eat in Bellingham or up in Vancouver, BC but there are innumerable times when we've said as deciding foe dinner or here on the island we ask, "why not just relax and enjoy?" so we stop there rather than cross the water- It's unique in that it's friendly to children and I've never experienced a typhoon of tempers or shouts and screams that I've seen in some spots. The Beach Store Cafe's prices are reasonable, sometimes a little high, but the staff are excellent, human and engaging. Most the long term staff are reliable, polite and contribute to the pleasure of eating. Locals are major visitors and off season (tourism) form the major clientele, a hospitable one with diverse tastes (a challenge for the cook). Tess' husband is an excellent chef and had the good sense to take the sausage out of the former owner's steamed mussels or clams. i am not fond of how they prepare fish and chips; the crust id too breaded. He makes excellent soups, chicken, delicious pizza, wonderfullll crust. the soups are always pleasantly filling with fresh herb flavors. Tess and Café family are often asking and adjusting their menu to the tastes of clients. Their wine and beers are suited to the meals or a plain relaxation. If you're into liquors, you will not be favoring -- since they don't serve hard alcohol. good, still unpretentious meal. Their hours feel limited to me, but that's because the mornings when i go out to have coffee, the Cafe doesn't open until 10. The "Sausageburger". is open similarly on weekends and some weekdays. and good for earlier breakfast and coffee times, but very limited indoor seating-- That is also unique and delicious, but not open evenings. The Islander is open all year, every day and most "home like" grocery with coffee 7- days.

Yelp
Apple and bacon salad, mussels, and pizza plus beer for two. It was a perfect Friday night meal for the evening we arrived in Lummi Island. All of the food was amazing, which is not surprising given that it's owned by the Willows Inn folks now. Very fresh, organic ingredients. The mussels were probably my favorite. There's actually not too many alternatives on the island, unless you're staying at a place with a kitchenette and bring your own groceries, so good thing it was awesome. The service was friendly and prompt, there was a fun live band, and it was very reasonably priced.

Yelp
I did not expect this place to be so nice. It had a great view of the water and a warm feeling inside. There is a small menu, but is covered just about any need. They have a nice selection of baked goods and local beers. I started with a salad. Not too much to is but it was a good portion and a refreshing start. I ordered the clam chowder. It had a wonderful consistency, a good balance of cream and broth. There were big chunks of clam and potatoes and none of them were over cooked. It came with a big slice of a house made ciabatta style country bread and it was awesome. The prices are on the high side for a cafe, but not outrageous. The food felt homemade and I will pay a little extra for it. The service was a little slow, but it is an island. I grew up on an island and they operate at a different speed, deal with it... soak up the view and relax.

Yelp
We arrived at the café at 11:45am on Saturday for breakfast and the restaurant was about 20% full. There was lots of parking available and as we walked towards the restaurant, we passed a cute beer garden area with a small stage for live music. SERVICE: 3 STARS. Per the "please eat yourself sign" at the door near the parking lot, we walked further into the restaurant deciding where to sit. We passed a few of the chefs without receiving any acknowledgement and were ¾ of the way to our window table at the front of the restaurant when a waitress greeted us cheerfully. She immediately brought menus and took our order. Food and coffee were served quickly. However, by the end of our meal, the restaurant had filled to capacity and was understaffed (our waitress was waiting for additional staff to arrive so she was the only one serving the entire restaurant). When we asked another staff member for a coffee refill, he placed our mug behind the counter and forgot about it. We waited about 10 minutes, then asked our waitress for a refill as we paid for our meal. She was so sweet and apologized (even though it wasn't her fault) and then refilled our coffee which we took outside to drink in their beer garden to free up our table for other guests. FOOD: 4 STARS. We came in with adjusted expectations since this café was on a small island but I have to say this place exceeded our expectations. We started with delicious Stumptown coffee - drip for my husband and I had a vanilla soy latte. We then shared the Spring Veggie and Pork Belly Hash and the Cottage Cakes. The pancakes were delightful - lemon curd was a perfect balance of sweet and ever so slightly tart and paired well with the strawberry-maple sauce. The pancake itself had a great texture - not overly fluffy or mushy but rather just firm enough and served hot off the griddle. The pork belly hash was flavorful and had more meat than we expected. However, one of the two poached eggs was overcooked and I wish they provided more hollandaise sauce. Overall, I was happy because I often have to decide between (corned beef) hash or eggs benedict for the hollandaise sauce but this time I got the best of both! PRICE: 4 STARS. We paid $41 including tax and tip for 2 entrees and 2 coffees, which I thought was slightly pricey but reasonable considering we were on an island. AMBIENCE: 4 STARS. Very casual, come-as-you-are island-style café with a chill playlist (some reggae, John Mayer, etc). We chose a window seat so we had a great view of the water and ferry. OVERALL: 4 STARS. The food was great so we would return again, hopefully on a sunny day so we can enjoy outdoor seating on the porch or in the beer garden.

Yelp
Definitely good. Breakfast was included in the room rate at Willows Inn. I had a creamy polenta with poached eggs and pancetta that was pretty good. My wife had a buckwheat package that was excellent. Coffee was delicious and while I didn't have any, they had a current favorite beer on draft. (Ninkasi TD IPA).

Yelp
What a great spot! Very friendly staff and very tasty food. The Mussels were recommended by the waitress and were some of the best I have ever had. The malted milkshakes were fantastic as well. They also made an impromptu vegan dessert for our table. It was an amazing Apple, 'Carmel', and Rosemary pizza. It was delicious! This cafe is cozy, but not campy. It feels refined but not pretentious. I would highly recommend a meal here.

Yelp
Wonderful atmosphere...warm attentive service...thoughtful well prepared food at very reasonable prices. A true island gem. If you are ever on Lummi be sure to experience this place at least once...or like me many times.

Yelp
My husband and I eat here whenever we're on the island. We LOVE the Beach Store. Wonderful hand crafted pizza (including a gluten free option), juicy burgers with yummy bacon jam, crisp flavorful fish and chips and I could go on and on. Ever since Tess and Jason took over BSC last year, the service and food have been amazing. And did I mention the wine?? They also have an incredible wine list! I think it's time to stroll on down for some lunch....

Yelp
This is considered the island's restaurant, and for good reason. Great food and great people. No, the service is not perfectly punctual all the time, but why the rush? Our usual is the fish and chips. Good size portions make it a great value. But the taste and consistency is superb. Others like the wood fire pizza. The few bites we have had help us to understand why.

Yelp
Last night of summer vacation, and we stopped for a late night meal after whale watching. We were tired and hungry not expecting the really great meal we enjoyed. From the salad to the dessert everything was perfect. The waitress made room for our larger group, and was very helpful. A perfect end to a wonderful day.

Yelp
The food and laid back atmosphere is wonderful. To get the this place you take a short and easy ferry ride and it's right off the dock. So you could easily walk, ride bike or take your car on the ferry. FYI they no longer serve liquor, but still have good wine and beer choices...although I really miss the Bloody Mary's. Also PLEASE start serving the clams for lunch! If you get there for dinner obviously get the clams. The pizza is a 9 out of 10 and (my husband would say 10/10) don't let the "gluten free" part of the fish and chips scare you, you wouldn't even know they were gf!
