Went in here to get a gift for my brother's new puppy. We ended up getting him a chew toy and a little biscuit. The puppy, Bear, loved the biscuit. The shopkeeper was super friendly and helpful. It honestly made me a little sad that the reviews are so negative because they almost made me avoid going in. I'm glad I did!

Most of the time I try to go to this shop during their posted business hours and they are not open. Customers have busy schedules and rely on posted business hours to plan on when they go to a store. This place seems more like a hobby rather than a real business. I won’t waste my time trying to go there again since they are not reliable. And as others have posted the barking pug means I can never bring my dog with me to this store.

I am so tired of people who do not go to this store regularly or even monthly, putting down the employees that work here. What you all don't know is that this employee you speak ill of is the owner. For shame on all of you. He is a good, quiet, and knowledgeable young man and has been in the Holistic Pet Nutrition for years. The people that have the audacity to mention his poor dead father, in reference to his style of running the store, are gross, rude, nasty individuals. I have witnessed people come in this store and receive great service and then see negative reviews online right after leaving the store, and that is bad manners. If anyone had a problem, I noticed that no one had ever mentioned it to him or tried to resolve any issue with him. You can't complain when you have not done the basic procedure of identifying the problem to him. As for his dog. The dogs he brings in the store are not violent. Dogs bark, but his dogs don't attack other dogs. If he feels there will be a problem, he will hold his dog so people can shop in comfort. I feel the people who complain about this store are just racist and entitled.

This is the best gourmet pet store in the Hudson Valley. Healthy options, raw, grain free and nice accessories. Both shops are Family owned and operated. Check them out.

I walked in here with my dog, and we were immediately approached by a barking pug. It got into my dog's face and just parked, blocking us from moving past. My timid dog is timid just froze and took the verbal abuse. I looked at the man behind the counter who was smiling and asked, "Is the dog just going to stand and bark in my dog's face?". He nodded yes and mumbled something I could not understand, while laughing. So I said, "Can you please get him out of my dog's face? We are customers. " I had to put my leg up to block the pug as he got more aggressive when the man then walked over, picked up the dog, and walked away. No apology. No words. I told him that was unacceptable and walked out. The audacity. I just read another review where customers experienced the same This situation is obviously being poorly handled by the man (owner, whoever) in the store. How are your going to allow that behavior/treatment and not intervene? Just horrible customer service. Keep your aggressive pug away from customers and their dogs, or someone's going to get hurt.

Google
😡😡 like other reviews say they're not actually open when their hours say they are. Drove 40 mins to come here just for them to be closed.

Disappointed. My co-worker shops here and is happy with them but I have had unpleasant results. Ordered online for pickup, shop was closed all of Monday opposite of stated hours. I understand, weather was bad, small shop (staff) could have effected. Returned Wednesday, shop open (dog inside, sign out on sidewalk) but door locked. Stopped by later during open hours and shop was closed. Phone calls lead to a non-voicemail system. I sent an email asking for a refund if I could not pick up the products. A day later and no response. I hope the shop owner is safe and sound but I am frustrated and disappointed.

Yelp
I walked in here with my dog, and we were immediately approached by a barking pug. He/she got into my dog's face and just parked, blocking us from moving past. My dog is timid, so she just froze and took the verbal abuse. I looked at the man behind the counter who was smiling and asked, "Is the dog just going to stand and bark in my dog's face?". He nodded yes and mumbled something I could not understand, still smiling. So I said, "Can you please get him out of my dog's face? We are customers. " I had to put my leg up to block the pug as he got more aggressive when the man then walked over, picked up the dog, and walked away. No apology. Nothing. I told him that was unacceptable and walked out. Y'all are lucky my dog is submissive and not reactive, but another dog or owner may not be. This was poorly handled by the man in the store, and it was horrible customer service. That ugly, aggressive pug needs to be kept away, or someone's going to get hurt.

Yelp
I recently came here to get my dog some homemade treats. First off, it was $9 for two cookies which I thought were overpriced but was actually ok with paying that much since they were cute. However, my dog has been having watery diarrhea nonstop for the past 3 days since eating the dog treat from here. Today, he developed bilious vomiting. So I would stay away.

Yelp
Before I had a dog, I would probably roll my eyes at the existence of a bakery that caters to canines. After owning one for a year now I can appreciate it and completely understand it. Beacon Barkery has a number of awesome treats for your pup. For my dogs first birthday I stopped in to get him some special treats. Everything I purchased was in the 2-4 dollar range (I felt that it was reasonable) and the person at the shop did a great job explaining what exactly the treats were composed of. He was even nice enough to give me a candle to light on top of one of the baked goods! My dog devoured everything within seconds. Now, to be fair, he will devour anything within seconds but he really did seem to enjoy everything I gave him and had a much greater desire for more, more so than his regular treats. There were plenty of other things to shop for here ranging from toys to clothing and everyday food items for your pet. Stop in if you're around and check them out. Glad they are around

Yelp
Was Sorry to hear of the owner (father) passing away. He is probably turning in his grave how his son is trying to run this business into the ground. Never seems to be open during supposed business hours, never answers the phone, yet has no voice-mail or answering machine service, always seems to be out of stock on website advertised items then overcharging on what's available in his tiny cooler for frozen raw food. My wife was getting food for our 3 dogs there consistently for years but recently asked me to pick it up since I was already in Beacon. Apparently, the son didn't recognize me and saw I was paying cash, so he charged me $80 for (2) 3lb bags which is the normal cost for (2) 6lb bags..when I realized what he did, I went back in and asked for the $40 overcharge. First he tried to justify the price by saying, "that is the price since I'm out of 6lb bags"??? So your charging me for 12lbs when I'm only getting 6lbs because you're out of stock??..when he realized how ridiculous that was, he would only offer me a "future" store credit instead of the refund of the blatant theft of my $40..I said no thanks, he probably needs the money ( for whatever his problem is) more than we do. We will however, say a prayer for him and his family.

Yelp
Honestly such a great store with great staff. There are some comments about the owner Jon but honestly he is a really nice, friendly and informative business owner when I met him. He always takes the time to talk about the products and will tell you all about what's best for your dog to eat. The bakery case is also really nice and the assortment of cookies available are always nice to look at. Will definitely be making a stop in this weekend for some cookies!

Yelp
Good service. We went in for a birthday cake for our dog. They didn't have what we were looking for in their Beacon location. So they called their other location and said they'd have it delivered to the Beacon store for our pickup in a day or two. Tho the cake was more expensive than I had hoped, our dog enjoyed it, and I guess that's all that matters. A nice touch was a little birthday hat doe our dog too

Yelp
Jon McNeal, the owner, has absolutely zero social skills and should NOT be in a position that involves interacting with people directly. It was obvious to me that his father is the only reason he was able to make it to co-owner. The baked treats, food and all other supplies were way overpriced for the lack of quality and had my dogs sick for weeks. I honestly wouldn't put it past creepy, dead behind the eyes Jon to have done something funky to those fresh baked treats. Wish I'd listened to my gut before buying. Never again!

Yelp
Great place! Liz was very helpful and you can tell really cares about animals. I went in there for several different items, but one thing my dogs really loved were the cookies!! Will definitely be back.

Yelp
I have two dogs and stopped in today for the first time. The place was interesting with cute coats, leashed and collars. The clerk seemed sad and not very approachable. He said the cost of my purchase was one price and then my change was off by .10 cents. I let that slide. Then I wrote a review to which he decided to comment on defensively. I hope he's the owner which will make this review exactly as I intend it to be. I had wanted a special place to come and shop for my dogs but instead I got the beginnings of a fiery cyber discussion that clearly tells me never to return and make sure my friends don't either.

Yelp
I have been here twice in the past few months and both times have found the gentleman who helped me not really friendly in any capacity. Despite that, the bakery treats I got for my pup were very cute and my dog seemed to really enjoy them. It is very nice to see small, family run shops-especially one for pets, I just hope that the next time I go in the owner is more friendly.

Yelp
This place is so cute! The selection is great, the staff is soo nice! Bought my pups a few cupcakes and cookies. The dogs loved the treats! Yay!

Yelp
The store is a mess over priced and getting help was challenging. The worker had no idea about anything

Yelp
woof!!! Owners are welcome. The owner and others who work there as well are helpful A great inventory for doggiies and kitties. Be loyal to Beacon and support the Barkery. Arf!

Yelp
Super nice staff, but the products are so expensive. I've seen the same toys in supermarkets or petco for a lot less than at Beacon Barkery ie. $20 stuffed toy at the Barkery, found for $7 at Stop & Shop, and $8 at Petco. Gourmet dog treats are great, but for regular food. I go to Vails Gate "Positively Pets" for all my dogs food.

Yelp
When I learned that Libby from the Beacon Barkery was selling, I was sad but she assured me that they looked very carefully for a new owner. They found Donald and his son John, and I have to say, they care just as much about what you are giving your dog or cat, and how. They listen to the needs of my cats, and make sure that their favorites are stocked. Donald makes sure there are plenty of Wonder Boxes (a disposable kitty littler box) in stock, and his son John got to work right away on their new cash register/tablet to modernize that end of things. I am so happy Beacon Barkery is here to stay!

Yelp
This store is lucky to get 1 star from me. Gave it two tries but both visits the gentleman and his barking, yapping pug were less than welcoming. Today went in looking for portable water dish with my dog(I visit a friend here in Beacon frequently and forgot mine)- nevermind I had to seek his help none was offered but he treated me like I had 2 heads. I've decided Beacon Barkery is only for those seeking rhinestone collars for their "accessory toy dogs"- never going back.

Yelp
Incredibly helpful staff..very knowledgable on dog food, accessories, pretty much anything dog related..I really can't stress how warm and welcoming the owner and employees are; it was my first time visiting today and I will certainly be back. Great selection of healthy foods for your pets and interesting array of home made treats.

Yelp
Love them! Been in twice and everyone is sweet and so friendly! Great shop! Has awesome affordable dog clothes and lots of fun leashes and collars! Will be back soon! My dog loved it too! I think he loved that the lady behind the counter gave him a yummy treat too! You can also pick up beacon dog park tags here!

Yelp
Excellent service and quality dog food and treats for the fur babies. They have a break down of the ingredients of everything they sell (no nebulous treats from China). I appreciated the time they took to fit my baby GiGi with a harness until we found the perfect fit. This place is awesome!
google avatar

Brian A.

Yelp
These are people who clearly care about your animal. They know every product inside and out and can recommend the right thing for your best friend. They were happy to offer me samples of various dog foods so I could figure which one my dog would like best (he prefers lamb because he thinks he's sophisticated...) and for foods that are 100% real, clean and made in America there priced reasonably.

Yelp
This is a wonderful place to buy Holistic, Gluten Free, and Grain Free food for cats and dogs. I have loved this place for years. This is a family owned business that is ran by a family that has pets and cares about the pets of all their patrons. But what really has been bothering me, is that people who are not local or not regular customers from the Hudson Valley have had the audacity to come into the three locations of this store and cause trouble and complain. This business goes out of their way to provide information and suggestions about better food for people's pets. And it bothers me that people would tear down this business, because they are cheap, petty, privileged, or knowledgeable. Jon Mcneal, is a wonderful, reserved, happy, pet loving owner of the Beacon location. He will never sell or carry a brand or food from a company that makes unhealthy food or that is garbage or a waste of money for any customer. He is very knowledgeable about both Holistic cat and dog food and this is what his store carries. If there is a protein or product that he does not carry, it does not mean that he does not have or will not go out of his way to get it, because he will. He will do better than his best to get a product for his customers. What this family owned business will not do, is carry or order a product that is not safe, clean, well made, or nutritionaly good for anyone's pet. It really makes me sick that the only people that seem to complain are people who are cheap, not knowledgeable about what is good for their pets or the brands, not regular customers or residents of the Hudson Valley. Over the years, I have seen people walk into this family's stores with such nastiness and unreasonable demands and expectations. People even have the audacity to complain about not knowing the hours, in which, are in front of your face when you open the door. Are you kidding me? It must be nice that this all you have to complain about in life. I mean Mr. Jon Mcneal has ordered products for customers that have given him hell without any complaints, and these same customers have been ungrateful by not even picking up their orders. How rude!!! This is a business and there are not businesses that will do these things for people in this day and age. I have just watched a wonderful family work hard and deal with all this ugliness with grace and kindness. God bless them forever!!! With that said, I need adults to stop being childish. It is rude to walk into an establishment and get shitty, because they don't have something you want. Ever heard of suggestions? Because, the Barker family with suggest a better or just as good product and protein for your pet, because they know what they are doing. I have seen them suggest the same protein of the same product for a customer, but the only difference was that the company had changed the package and I saw the customer lose all rationale. Disgusting. And for the record, Mr. Jon Mcneal is a happy person, reasonable, and approachable. It is wrong to attack his character or his sweet pug Angel that happily barks greetings to every customer. That animal loves people and rubs. You have to be a jerk to write a review attacking the character of someone you don't know or deal with on a daily basis and attack their pet!!! Really?!! This store and family are very orderly, clean, and best priced. I have been to Pet Supplies Plus, PETCO, Pet Goods, and a slew of stores that are not his competitors and found that they have the better prices. They even have better prices than Chewy.com, which is rare for me to say about any business. And I need people who have never been in the Barkery, to stop treating the owner like a worker or someone that does not know what he is doing!!! This family is knowledgeable about the products that they sell and carry. You can't walk into a store and mention a product that no one has ever heard of before and assume that they don't know anything about anything. That is not fair and you are just mad, because you didn't get what you wanted and you didn't want to take the time to go somewhere else or do the research yourself. Google is an amazing search engine. Also, the store is never in a mess, but when a delivery comes, What do you expect?! Mr. Mcneal is only one person, but he is doing amazing things by himself. I also given him so much respect for handling the dog park patrons, because they are nasty!!! Mr. Mcneal is not in charge of the dog park operations at all. He is only the collector of the payments for the residents of Beacon, but people would know this if they read the rules. I am just very proud of this business for caring about Beacon and their pet owners, and the everyone that walks through the door. I appreciate their support of us Veterans and the military community in the Hudson Valley. And like I defended this country; I will defend the people that are trying to contribute to the well being of people and pets.

Yelp
This place is so adorable! The customer service is A++ and the treats and baked goods are beautifully decorated. Also, the prices are really great for being organic! The pups really enjoy this place! Will definitely be returning.

ben b.

Yelp
Feels like a tourist trap. Tiny store. Prices about 50-100% higher than elsewhere. For example, Tiki cat food, 3 oz can, most stores sell it for 79-89¢ per can. Heck, buy a case of 12 in Middletown at their most famous pet food store, it is 64¢ per can! Her price? $1.29??? I'm all for supporting local businesses, but the store isn't going to make it. Too small, too slow, too expensive. They are looking to make $150 per day on $300 a day sales. That's a joke. A successful pet store might make $300 a day on $1,000 in sales. I wouldn't shop here, you are paying too much and just prolonging the inevitable. I know this will get flagged, but one bad review can't finish off this sinking ship.

Amy R.

Yelp
They love my dogs, and my dogs love them!!! We always get a really awesome welcome when we come here. They even offer to deliver the dog food directly to our house! They have a great selection and are very knowlegeable.

Jackie I.

Yelp
Got a birthday cake for my dog here. This place is amazing! If you are true pet lover, this is a store for you.
