The Top And Best Restaurant and Food Stories on Eater Atlanta in 2019 | Eater Atlanta

"A LaGrange brewery that created a beer called 'Crushable' celebrating Blondie, a legendary performer at a well-known Ponce strip club, with the name referencing her trademark of crushing cans between her breasts while reciting poetry — a novelty release that became a talked-about local story." - Beth McKibben

Beacon Brewing and the Clermont Lounge Create Collaborative Blondie Beer Called Crushable, Release Party September 27, Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"A LaGrange, Georgia brewery created a blonde lager called “Crushable” inspired by an iconic local entertainer’s habit of crushing beer cans between her breasts while reciting poetry. The beer is a collaboration tied to a release party at the Ponce de Leon vice den on Friday, September 27 starting at 8 p.m., held in the entertainer's honor." - Beth McKibben

Great customer service, but there’s room for improvement in other areas. The temperature of our food wasn’t the best, especially the nachos. The burger was excellent & so were the drinks! Would return to give it another shot.

Google
I adore Tutto Pepe! We started with the Oysters from Prince Edward Island, Prosecco, and Beef Carpaccio it was phenomenal! Moved on to a bottle of Super Tuscan red wine with plates of octopus and Gnocchi (the Gnocchi was cooked perfectly 👌) and Short Rib Ragu. Finished with an Affogato espresso coffee service and Tiramisu. Courtney, our server, was absolutely lovely and took great care of us. We also gave our compliments to Chef Spencer. The food and service were absolutely devine, and I will absolutely be back. The atmosphere was very intimate and perfect for a date night. I left feeling like a queen.

Google
We went to the Beacon Brewing Taproom for a casual early dinner with our 3 kids (7, 5, and 3). The space was family friendly and the menu offered a great variety of options, including for our kids. The kids' chicken tenders were fresh and made in house, as was the ramen our oldest ordered - all were approved by the little ones. My wife and I each sampled a few of the beers off of the draft list to go with our meals. I had the fish and chips and my wife enjoyed the fried rice with teriyaki chicken. Service was friendly and very helpful - we were even able to get our kids' meals started as we ordered our drinks, which was very helpful for hungry kiddos. If we lived locally this would be a regular spot for us!

Google
Laid-Back, friendly, neighborhood brew pub. I prefer the atmosphere to the larger and more impersonal Wild Leap brewery downtown. Great place to meet friends. Atmosphere is relaxed so they don't mind if you stay a long time to socialize. Usually 10+ different varieties of brewed beer of different styles and alcohol contents. Wine Wednesdays offer half price bottles of wine. Food quality varies a little bit. Plain fries, beacon burger, chicken Sammie, taco selection are all good. I'd give it pass to the loaded fries. The cook sometimes uses too much sauces, so I'd ask for those on the side.

Took my girlfriend to dinner for her birthday. Wanted to take her somewhere nice and we wanted to try something new. I'll start by saying, it's nice to have something this nice, so close to home, without having to drive to Atlanta for a fine meal. The atmosphere was great, the service was impeccable, and the food was an experience. Loved it very much, we will be back soon. They really bring the feeling that you're having dinner in Sicily.

Google
Enjoyable brewery! Had three sessionable style beers and a 5oz IPA pour; all were very solid for their style. The pot stickers were great, but four for $12 is a bit steep; the menu in general is a bit on the pricier side. The mojo of the place is good, and the bartender was very friendly and attentive. There’s roughly 15 street parking spots out front going both directions; there’s even more street parking in the surrounding area as well. I’d choose this spot over Wild Leap LaGrange anytime.

Google
Tutto Pepe- Excellent. The pork chop is amazing! Apps, service and atmosphere are very good! Try the Island Rain cocktail, refreshing! Recommend getting a reservation, this place is a gem and will fill up quick. Tiramisu!

Google
Nice concept, service and food lacking. Great atmosphere, should just serve as a bar. Tacos were served in a puddle of grease. I ordered slaw as a side, the server said this was their “Asian inspired slaw” AKA a bag of pre mixed slaw with no dressing- just dumped out. Waitress was incredibly friendly but took over an hour to get our food.

Yelp
My 5 coworkers and I came on wednesday for wine down wednesday half price bottles of wine. I got a twenty five dollar bottle of moscato for half price, and it was the best wine i've had in ages. The waiter said his favorite sandwich was the short rib grilled cheese sandwich. I'm really glad I decided to try it. It came with seasoned fries. My friend who ordered the rice bowl let me try her dip, and it tasted like yum yum sauce with a twist. I asked for a little bowl of it to dip my french fries in. Wonderful establishment, fantastic food, excellent service. There is also a fantastic ice cream shop right around the corner where we went after our meal to indulge in some blueberry cheesecake ice cream.

Yelp
Good selection of drinks & food. The location is in a weird, dead spot. The food was pretty good but not for the prices. They were a little stingy with toppings. I got the nachos & asked for extra veggies instead of the meat & it was a very sad plate. I don't see myself returning to this spot.

Yelp
We were in LaGrange, GA for the weekend and decided to try Beacon Brewery. I love a couple of the beers at Beacon. I usually drink Blue Moon exclusively, and I was very surprised that I like the Tutto Pepe and the ESB and that's why I gave the brewery a five star rating. I was looking forward to trying their food...my husband had the tacos...he actually ordered all six options. He liked the meat and chicken ones better than the seafood choices, but he said they were all good. I was looking forward to the fish 'n chips. Unfortunately, the dish lacked seasoning/taste. It was very bland. I ate it because I was hungry, but I will not get it again. On another visit my husband had the Beacon fries and said the were delicious. Guess I just made the wrong choice in food. Despite my food being bland/tasteless, we will definitely go back the next time we are in the LaGrange area. We ate at the Italian restaurant which is part of the brewery...Tutto Pepe...and I definitely give five starts to Tutto Pepe I had the ahi tuna appetizer; my husband had the beef carpaccio appetizer; for dinner I had lasagne and my husband had ravioli. Everything was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and will definitely go back there when we are in the area.

Yelp
Very nice area and our waiter was great! I was torn between what to order and his recommendation was phenomenal. We had the Beacon fries, beer cheese fries, some pints, and burgers. Absolutely delicious. Very quaint and nice atmosphere.

Yelp
Great place for beer and wings! Ended up at Beacon after the talking a quick walk around. Natalie was a great service. There is live music on Sundays starting at 1pm. The wings were delicious. We got them naked with sauce in the side but we should have gotten sauce on the wings. Would highly recommend.
google avatar

Kris P.

Yelp
Flavors were great! Loved the Asian chili wings... the FRIED GREEN BEANS WERE SOOO YUMMY!!! Beer was great, and very cold! Cute vibe! I'll definitely be back when I come to the area for business.
google avatar

Peyton O.

Yelp
Food was pretty good. The menu on yelp we referenced prior to selecting our dinner for the night was not accurate. This is definitely an American Asian fusion and not normal bar food with smoked wings and sliders that previous viewers referenced. We tried a lot of food - the mahi tacos swapped sauce to jalapeño aioli was the best. Fries are very seasoned and none of our three kids would eat because the spice factor, but we liked them so they didn't necessarily go to waste. Interesting place!

Yelp
Came here on a whim when I was in the area for work. I have always been a fan of breweries and didn't know too much about the area. Thankfully Yelp provided some good recommendations, including, Beacon. They had a nice selection of brews and some delicious brew pub food. The Wagyu hot dog was very good. I enjoyed my visit there and will try to come back when I'm in the area. Lauren was great at serving too.

Feon P.

Yelp
Food was not good at all! I ordered the beacon burger and one side of the patty was burned black! Asked for running egg and got scrambled well done... A few Asian dishes on the menu we got a ramen, it was bland and noodle was soft to a point about to disintegrate... Can't comment on the beer since we didn't get any but do not recommend for the food...

Tina D.

Yelp
Food was pretty good. Nice selection of beers and ciders. Great service from all of the staff.
google avatar

Millie D.

Yelp
We had potstickers, tacos, and Fire in the Hole Burger. Yum! The beer was awesome! Drove down from Atlanta to go to Sweetland Amphitheater to see Jason Isbell and stopped for beer and dinner first. Great love all around. If this place were in my town, I'd be a regular!
google avatar

Greg K.

Yelp
Not much to add that hasn't already been said. Love breweries of all shapes and sizes especially if they have good beer. Beacon is very different than Wild Leap but every bit as good. Beers were tasty, service very friendly and the food was very good. The fried green beans stole the show. All kinds of yummy flavors. We were camping down in Pine Mountain and Beacon was well worth the drive!

Yelp
Always a stop when I'm traveling back home in Georgia. A little tucked away, but I have faith that you can find it. The food is excellent even some veggie options in notoriously meat eater Georgia. The service is always great. Everyone is so friendly and hospitable. The ambiance is very down home and comforting. I particularly appreciate the beer. There's always something tasty to try. I would highly recommend a stop but this quaint brewery!

Yelp
I came to try their brews. And was surprised to see live music as well. You could only hear the music well if you sat outside or near the outside. The music was not very loud but I could still hear a small bit from the inside. I stood at the bar for close to 10 minutes before someone actually paid attention to me or asked if they could help. I went ahead and ordered 3x 5oz pours. I ordered the sour, the Nut up or shut up and the coffee porter. The beer was excellent! All three! I decided to order some food. I was not once offered a menu so I had to ask. The bar is not a good place to sit if you want good service, that's for sure. Nonetheless, at this point they saw me sitting there drinking. I ordered the tuna poke. The food did not take long and was really, really good!! The chips were tasty and plentiful. Overall it was a surprising place in a small town. Neat and delicious. But the service needs work. They were very busy. But no reason to ignore the bar. Would still come back to this place to try other food items.

Diane P.

Yelp
Very nice server but limited beer selection. Food choices were OK but it took a long time to just get an appetizer. Table wasn't clean. Prices average.

Thom C.

Yelp
We tried the Beacon Brewery especially for their Korean fusion food. When we arrived there were about 5 tables of guests. We were greeted by our server who was very pleasant. She brought us our beers. We ordered our food, two burgers and 3 tacos. And then we waited, and waited, and waited. After 45 minutes we decided to pay for our beers and leave. The waitress advised us to stay and that she would speak to the manager. The food showed up. Burgers were good, except my bacon burger didn't have any bacon. The fries were hot and crispy. The tacos however were ice cold! The shells were so cold they were brittle. The waitress offered to remake the tacos but we declined. She removed them from our bill and gave us a 20% discount (approximately $3) off our burgers. At no time did the manager approach us to offer an apology nor an explanation. We will not return nor recommend this place. There are other fine eateries and breweries in the area which appreciate and respect their customers.

Yelp
My family and I stopped here on the way back from Ft Walton Beach, FL. Very glad we did because the service and food were fantastic. We had the fried teriyaki chicken sammi. Sooo good!
google avatar

Robert D.

Yelp
Fantastic surprising brunch today. Fried gator and waffles. With the best ever Bloody Mary. A must have in Lagrange.
google avatar

Tim N.

Yelp
The food here is really good. I like the fact that it's a little more than just regular bar food. The service is great. All the people at the restaurant are always nice. The ambiance has a laid back feeling. It will make you feel comfortable eating here. The beer is always great.
google avatar

Marshall W.

Yelp
I usually get the bulgogi rice bowl or the Asian fried chicken sammi, with teriyaki sauce. I always get an order or 2 of their fired green beans because they are delish. Beer is great and the servers go out of their way to make sure you are good to go. Atmosphere is good too. They have indoor and outdoor (screened in porch seating).
google avatar

M O.

Yelp
Wonderful and interesting food though it is pricey. Neat new lounge area! Service is atrocious every time I go, (I sit outside) but I prefer their beer to the other place in town. Musician Nick is great, so I will still go to Beacon sometimes. However, I will be looking for a backup place to take my college students and out-of-town visitors, because okay-to-good beer is no longer enough.

Yelp
We came here for dinner while at Great Wolf based on the poor yelp reviews for the restaurant there. We totally enjoyed our dinner. We got fish tacos. Kid's cheeseburger. Rice bowl. My friend also got the wings and egg rolls. The food was good. There were a few things that hit my palate differently. Not that it wasn't good just different. The tacos were different...good but different. The egg rolls were different. The mushrooms in the rice bowl was good once they were gone we did need teriyaki sauce. The sauce really added something nice. The kids cheeseburger was quite tasty. It came with some very tasty fries. As far as the service ... Emma was awesome. She was super patient, friendly and helpful. She even got my friend's daughter a high chair for her little stuffed animal! I would return the next time we come to the Lodge. There were a few things I would like to try.
google avatar

Polly B.

Yelp
Holy Smokes this stuff is awesome!!! At first glance the menu seems odd, but then the food comes and it all makes sense!! The service is fast and very friendly and very eager to please.
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
Pleasant stop before we visited another brewery in the area. The food here is top notch. Something for everyone and helps the beer to become even better. As it should be. There are two unisex bathrooms. The day we were in there one person a female was handling all of us by herself and the stress was showing. She was a little short with us. I went to use the bathroom. I chose the wrong one because there was no soap dispenser in it so I could not wash my hands. I got told that I could go into the other bathroom. There is soap in there. Hmm. The tables and decor are really nice. We liked the beacon logo a lot. Treat yourself.
google avatar

Staci K.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. The beer, the food, the atmosphere, the people, all are perfect. This place is the biggest surprise of our visit to the area. Such a cute place with a brew pub and the food is as good as some fine dining fancy places! Definitely a don't miss! We will be back!
google avatar

Charles P.

Yelp
Really cool little place. Stopped here in the middle of a long trip to Alabama and the food was really good. The burger that I had was as expected. I would definitely go back if I were to.pass through again.
google avatar

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Ok let me say that I loved this brewery! We called ahead and found out it was dog friendly. Dani was our guide here to ordering food to ordering brews and she did great! She let us sit inside and we ordered their chicken egg rolls to start. Seriously everything on the menu here looked amazing. The beers were awesome I ordered the juicy B.O.M (beer of the month). A light ipa that was perfect after our morning hike. Hubs ordered the mango jucifer. We ended up taking a 6 pack variety home. We ordered a mahi taco blackened and relish dog- Wagyu beef hotdog with pickled relish and spicy aoli sauce. I ordered the bulgogi burger Which was also amazing!!! Both came with shoe string fries. Also atop my burger were these pickled cukes but they had some after heat which I loved! Seriously have to check this place out if you like brews and are a foodie! All of the food was really good.
google avatar

Brian R.

Yelp
Great service, lunch and beer. Visiting for work had the chance to get a late lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Very nice food options which included upscale versions of typical brewery food which included Confit Duck Banh MI Sandwich, Wagyu beef hot dogs and duck fat fried fries, and Gator bites. We tried them all. IPA was good solid west coast IPA would have like a few more options but we're not available on this day. Will come back when I'm in town next.

Lu B.

Yelp
Wow, what a fun place! The beer was cold which is great as long as you aren't from Europe. The service was friendly as long as you aren't from Russia. And the food was tasty as long as you aren't from ... Erica was great!

Stacy S.

Yelp
Service has greatly declined!!!! The food was ok but the serving size are small. When it first opened, I would say it was awesome. Now, I would not recommend
google avatar

Kaleigh S.

Yelp
This place is so good we ate dinner here two nights in a row! The staff is amazing and the food is freaking yummy! We were staying at great wolf where the food is crap and cost to much so we ventured out and found this gem! If your wanting to try it go! You won't be disappointed
google avatar

Leigh W.

Yelp
Best kept secret in LaGrange. Bottomless mimosas on a Sunday. Limited brunch menu coupled with excellent wait staff make this hole in a wall brewery the up and coming go-to in LaGrange.
google avatar

JD J.

Yelp
Great atmosphere here! We played giant Jenga while we waited on our food (glad it was there, because we ended up waiting a while). Our fried green beans were amazing, but my tacos came out a little cold and a little bland. I'm not a fan of corn tortilla shells (mainly because they're as brittle as tissues), but Beacon wisely double wrapped them, so props to them for that. My fries, however, were the most disappointing part. Overcooked, hard, and shattered more than crunched. With all that said, Beacon was a unique restaurant meant more for socializing, and if I went back, I'd have a better idea on what to order.

Randy D.

Yelp
Went to the Beacon for a quick dinner tonight before my granddaughter's graduation. Absolutely one of the worst decisions we could have made. Ordered fries with my chicken sandwich, so spicy they weren't edible, and the server agreed after tasting them. Husband ordered wings (one of the few things without Kim chi, what's the deal with all the Kim chi, even on the tacos??) Ordered the wings extra crispy, emphasized extra crispy, came out soft and gooey. Told the server, who said she specifically told the kitchen extra crispy and agreed they were not. He sent them back and ate the fries for dinner. We washed all that down with some incredibly overpriced beer. I know it's a trendy sort of place, but damn! Won't be back. The BBQ joint next door is even better, and it isn't a shining star! Husband said if he ever mentions going there ago to just stab him. The doctor bill will be less than the meal cost. 78.00 for a chicken sandwich, a bowl of ramen, and a hamburger and some fries. Would have felt better if the server had held a gun on me when I paid, and this after the wings were taken off the ticket. Server was the only good thing about the place.
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
Definitely a must go place. Not large, but very cool place. Wife had Porter and I had Hillside IPA which was very very good. My 9 yr old had hotdog and fries (loved it) and he is picky. I had one of the burgers which was awesome. We also got boiled peanuts and Pork Skin with dip.

Yelp
I can't believe this is my first time reviewing this place. My partner and I stopped here for the first time in 2019 and have been in love ever since. We take a couple road trips a year and we try to make Beacon one of our stops, we have stopped around once or twice a year since. Great beer and food. Not a giant beer selection but it's not a giant place. They have all the beer basics but with flare (lager, IPA, sours, Hefeweizens, porters etc) and then some, so it doesn't exclude any beer lover, something for everyone. The food is unexpectedly good in my opinion. Maybe it's my road trip nostalgia talking but I'm a pretty unbiased person. This go round we got the hillside IPA, the lager, and the new Hefeweizen "where are your nanners" (I giggled every time I said it and it was good). For food we got the fried green beans (YUM), the boiled peanuts (not the best I've had but above average definitely), and the bulgogi burger (WOW!). Imo, the bulgogi beef should be on the menu much more. We have tried their bowls and taco and a bunch of other things in the past and everything has been really good. I honestly have never been disappointed. The service is always good and friendly. Seriously worth a stop. We just left and I'm already looking forward to our next road trip so we can stop again.
google avatar

Delanee P.

Yelp
I came here wanting to get a sour flight due to the extensive beer list they had online. Imagine my disappointment when they only had 5 taps total! I did get A sour which was good. The bbq Mac n cheesy changa was good but everything else was not. The wings were not crispy at all. I would not go back.
google avatar

Chad R.

Yelp
Small little brewery that has it's charm. Great food as well to pair with their brews. We only came by here, because we didn't want to eat at the Great Wolf Lodge where we were staying. The outdoor space needs some tidying up, didn't feel too safe letting our toddlers just run around in the grass. Otherwise, likely will be back when we go to GWL again.
google avatar

Paula R.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Didn't expect that at all. I had bulgogi nachos which I loved. Our friends had fried green beans that were delicious. Bottomless mimosas were yummy. Beer was good. The place is a little small but a good atmosphere. The severs were the best. 10/10 - would recommend!
google avatar

Robert G.

Yelp
Best bacon burger I've had east of the Mississippi! Great service and beer to go along with the great food.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. Super unique fusion-style menu with everything from tacos to hot dogs to grilled cheese to burgers. I ended up going with the shrimp, smoked chicken, and grouper tacos and my husband had the smoked chicken rice bowl. We also had a flight of beers. Everything was unique and delicious. Great service also. Would definitely return next time we are passing through!
google avatar

Sydney C.

Yelp
We don't live in LAG but come back fairly often; Beacon is our go-to when we are in town. The burgers are delicious, the pork rinds are out of this world, and do not miss the duck fat potatoes. The Sweetland Light beer is so so good. Crisp, refreshing with a bit of a citrusy aftertaste. Wish we had it here in Idaho. Go Beacon!!
google avatar

Jake J.

Yelp
One of very few breweries in the area I guess give it a shot when I came with some buddies all the IPAs tasted the same
google avatar

Brant K.

Yelp
Food is awesome. Service is super-attentive. Looks like they will be having music and events on the weekend. I had the seafood ramen with tuna, shrimp and octopus. Interior is small, but super comfortable. Great custom artwork all over the walls. Beer won't be ready until this weekend, so I'll come back then!
google avatar

Joey K.

Yelp
Great place after work, good food good service! Quiet part of town, they can and have cans available. Recommend it!

Anna C.

Yelp
This place continues to be my go to place in Lagrange. The beer selection is delicious and the food is a perfect mix of Asian flavors and bar food. Kid friendly and nice patio. Super friendly wait staff.
google avatar

Jeremy H.

Yelp
Driving from ATL to Columbus and looking for a good brew and food I found it!! This place is awesome- great grub options - wings and dogs were unbelievable- tacos my wife had were top notch - all Kinds of great beer selection Only advice to owner is to carry a hard cider for us gluten free drinkers
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
This place is awesome!! It is a super cool venue. For beer I had Alices Hands: Left, Jucifer, and Berlin Work. All three were delicious. Harley was my bartender and she was awesome. Super friendly and engaging. She recommended the Southern burger and it was delicious. I am definitely going back to try some of their other beers and amazing food.

Keith T.

Yelp
Here is the real story on this place. Food is ok, not great. Times are apparently tough as they keep reducing portion size. Got a Gator bowl and only have 5 very small pieces of breading. Almost ZERO meat. Beer (in a can) wasn't very cold - likely they turned up the temp to save money. Finally, they charge you 4% to use a credit card - even though their cost is 2%. This is a HUGE deal because they don't tell you on the front end - just a low class move.
