SF Coffee Shops With Free Wifi and Good Food | Eater SF

"If you’re expecting to work while sitting on a bean bag, you’re going to be disappointed as they don’t actually have any of those. Everything else though will make up for it. Their food menu is huge: eggs, pancakes, sweet and savory crepes, sandwiches, salads, and burgers. They even have dinner plates if you’re working late. Drink a coffee, tea, or smoothie during the day, or get a $2.50 beer during happy hour (every day from 3 to 10 p.m.)." - Ellen Fort

We really need to find something to share. The burritos and burgers are huge. My carnitas burrito was delicious and came wrapped up in foil. Dawn's burger was a little too greasy making the bun soggy. The slushy was good.

Google
Great little neighborhood eatery! Stopped here for lunch without knowing anything about the place. I had a great burger and the fries were also fantastic. Food was very reasonably priced for SF area, in fact, I had plenty of other meals in SF that cost significantly more that I would rate much lower in quality and satisfaction.

Located a block away from Alamo Park and two blocks from the painted ladies. This is a great neighborhood coffee shop with an extensive food menu(breakfast, lunch and dinner). Smoothies, espresso drinks, and adult beverages. Ten beers on tap(Stella Artois $6 happy hour). They also have a restroom for customers.

Had time to kill and an empty stomach before a show across the street at The Independent. I picked this place ahead of time based on their menu and location. The (portabella) sandwich and fries were delicious with generous portions. Reasonably priced. The atmosphere was very relaxed. The service was great. I will definitely eat here again next time I'm nearby.

Google
Delicious, reasonable pricing (for SF), peaceful, clean and cozy environment. They accommodated my dietary restrictions which shows a level of care rare to find in today’s world! They don’t make spinach salads, but custom made a spinach and orange vine grate side salad to go with my portobello sandwich, since I despise lettuce and spring mix. Additionally, I asked to sub bell peppers for cucumber and the cashier ran back to the kitchen to notify them! No extra charge for the substitutions, by the way. The service is phenomenal. To find a delicious sandwich AND side salad for $15 in a clean, cozy shop in a great location is incredible. We had a blast people watching and enjoying the city sounds and sites through the windows too :)

Delicious burrito and crepes! Lavender lemonade was amazing.

Google
This place is a great spot for a quick bite or a drink. The staff is super friendly and helpful. It’s also conveniently located if you just visited the painted ladies. I had a bit of a mushy potato, but the taste was still good. I’ll definitely get fries next time!

Walked here after errands at the DMV. I didn’t know a simple egg and cheese bagel could be that delicious!! Friendly owner. Inexpensive prices too.

Yelp
Came here to hangout at the cafe and use their WiFi (free). The cafe was spacious, clean, and played good background music. I ordered a Thai tea (~$5), was decent. I didn't get anything to eat but they had a bunch of customers coming in an out for their food so I'm sure it's good! Will def come back to try some.

Yelp
Let's give a toast to the neighborhood cafés that have survived San Francisco's transformation over the last 20 to 30 years. There aren't many of them. Beanbag is one of the survivors. Homely, basic, friendly and classic. You will find better, small batch, bespoke, coffee, and breakfast sandwiches elsewhere, but you won't get the personality. You won't get the sense of a neighborhood institution. The folks here are friendly, there is free Wi-Fi and a pretty extensive menu. Everything is fine. I usually go for breakfast and Tim never disappointed. If there's anything I don't like about it it's that there are always techies in here having their little techie meetings. Investment this, capitalize on that, scale, blah, blah, blah. But it speaks to that this place is spacious and chill.

Yelp
The day that my gf and I went to the Bean Bag Cafe we weren't planning to go. My partner's car had to get towed and we were waiting for the tow truck to come by. We initially stopped by to get some coffee because we were so tired from the night before. We both came in; she ordered an iced matcha latte while I got a hot mocha with oatmilk. The man at the resturaunt was really nice. While we were waiting for our drinks we saw the menu and made a mental note to come back another day. After we dropped of the car to the auto shop we decided to go back because we hadn't eaten anything. The man at the register was surprised to see us again but was really nice. My gf had gotten an eggs Benedict plate. I had the Popeyes eggs Benedict which came with red onions and spinach and I had an extra cup of coffee. We also shared a stack of buttermilk pancakes with strawberries. Everything was delicious. My gf said her potatoes were a little burnt...but mine were fine. They were crispyyy. I think the reason why I gave this place 5 stars was because we were having such a rough day but when we came back and spoke with (what we assumed was) the owner of the restaurant, he made us feel 100% better. He made us feel welcomed and was very enthusiastic that there food was going to warm us up. The place does get a little crowded but is still a nice little area to do some homework. I recommend this spot for college students or small groups of people looking to have great food and a cup of coffee

Yelp
GET THE BURRITO - SO DAMN JUICY! When you walk in the restaurant, you will need to order at the counter before choosing a seat. I would recommend sitting outside when the weather permits!

Yelp
My husband and I visited this location for breakfast on a weekday morning around 9am. There were several people already seated but we were still able to get window seating for our laptops and food came in 10-15 minutes. The 1 waitress was very friendly and was able to attend to everyone quickly even as it got busy. The chorizo breakfast burrito was soo good and made my croissant egg and cheese sandwich a lot less exciting in comparison. For 2 people we spent $53 on 2 breakfasts and 2 coffees.

Yelp
What a great, comfy, cozy spot! This would be the perfect spot to hide out in on a rainy day. There's friendly service and many tables (high-top and standard) and window-side seating. The all-day food and drinks menu is huge. It had everything I wanted except soup. I hope they add it to the menu, particularly for the winter! The Hamburger and French Fries (thick cut, well seasoned) were delicious. Relaxing jazz plays in the background. The vibe reminds of the old, classic Barnes & Noble cafes. I'll be coming back for sure. There were many people here on a Saturday afternoon, including friends, a family, and several solo diners reading books and working on a laptop. I heard several people inquire about the WiFi here, but I didn't hear the response so I'm not sure if it was available or not. Complimentary water and glasses located in the front. One single-stall bathroom in the back.

Yelp
I don't think I've ever had better home fries. They were super crispy on the outside and a had VERY hot mash potato texture on the inside with a hint of onion and potato skins. I loved all the vegetarian menu options though the grill surface is shared as I did have a 1" piece of bacon in my home fries with no complaint from me. I ordered the falafel wrap and was very pleased. I saw the strawberry pancakes on the table next to me and I admit I was envious. The tuna melt was also a hit and it is served open faced which was a nice touch.

Yelp
There breast bagels with added bacon are spectacular. There omelettes are well prepared and hash browns are delicious. My boyfriend orders the pesto crepe and burrito both of which are good. Love their ambiance it's local and upbeat. Their service is fast and reliable and convenient for me definitely going back for another visit. Their coffee and orange juice are superb.

Yelp
Food: large portions and the food itself is good. I had the breakfast burrito with chorizo and it was good, but not great. There's so many more places that have better breakfast burritos, and it didn't help that I felt it was very overpriced. We also got the chicken pesto crepe with home potato's. The crepe was good, cheesy, and packed with good pesto that tasted great. The potato's were also very good! Enjoyed it a lot. Service: the man at the front who took my order was nice, but he didn't give me a receipt when I ordered. I had to go back and ask for the receipt.. it's small, but giving someone a receipt or asking if they want one should be standard practice at any establishment/restaurant. All in all, okay food, but very overpriced. I think we paid close to 40+ dollars for a breakfast burrito and crepe. 3.5/5.

Yelp
Woke up late on a Saturday and had nothing in the house to eat so headed over for some coffee and a cheeseburger to fill an empty stomach. Missed the lunch/brunch rush so only a couple people in line and plenty of seats inside and out. Got my order in and a mug of coffee and sat down at a stool where I could gaze out the window at the people passing along divisadero street and slowly wake up. The cheeseburger and fries arrived before I knew it and I got down to work on filling my belly. The fries looked deep brown and crispy but I was disappointed to find it was a little soft and wilted. The cheeseburger was juicy and tasty with crisp lettuce, solid slice of tomato, five slices of pickles, and a brioche bun attempting to soak up all the juices. Maybe if I had not been so hungry, I might have asked if they could double fry the fries to get it crispy again but once I started eating, I didn't really care. Definitely hit the spot and I was ready to enjoy the sunny day.

Yelp
We came here on a whim, and are so pleasantly satisfied! The regular house coffee is honestly full bodied and perfect, as well as the food being delicious! I got the Alaskan savory crepe and it was so unique and flavorful. I had a 10/10 side salad which is not always that restaurants nail down a delicious house dressing too so that was a plus. My boyfriend got the eggs Benedict wrap, that was good for being more of a traditional American flavor palette. Overall, I would highly recommend this spot especially if you want something more casual/ no table service.

Yelp
What a great corner on the visitor of this place is a fun café where you order upfront has nice chill vibes and you can sit where you want indoor or outdoor. They have a large variety of items, including crêpes, omelettes and Benedict. I settled on the Popeye Benedict, which is spinach hollandaise with an egg with their fries, which are closer to a hash brown cause they're so well minced and extremely tasty. I have to say these are the best home fries I've had in San Francisco ever and I do highly recommend The front counter. Staff are very kind and friendly. Very patient and the service help seem to be very quick and on their feet getting food out too very quickly. I do highly recommend. It's very nice relaxed atmosphere and you can tell a lot of people like to come here over and over again Just like my friend who said this was his regular hangouts and I'm so glad I was able to share it with him. Haven't been here before, but definitely will be coming back.

Yelp
We came to support a local shop for breakfast and ordered 4 breakfast tacos and 2 beverages for a total of $60 before tip. After tip that's over $70 for 4 tacos and drinks .. at a local diner??? We actually caught the owner charging extra fees to our bill today without letting us know. It was just around $6 extra but still didn't feel right especially considering the coffee was watered down, the eggs were powdered and we had to bus our own tables. The menu says breakfast tacos are $6.50 and extra protein is $2.25 - we were charged $9.45 each taco with a standard protein and then $11.00 for breakfast tacos with steak- that's $4.50 extra for carne, which is almost the price of a whole carne taco on its own. I was served a watered down regular sized chagacino but charged for a large. These are minor upcharges but they were not communicated and therefore felt like a violation. Almost $70 (with tip) for 4 tacos and two drinks at a local diner is absurd. I will not be returning nor recommending.

Yelp
While in SF, I was told about the Bean Bag Cafe and that it had a wide variety of options. The place was nice, bright and open. In typical fashion I had to give the breakfast burrito a shot. For meats I got bacon and chicken sausage. The burrito was great size and very filling. The only issue I had was it seemed as though the chicken sausage had a sweet taste, which I am not a fan of. Other than that no complaints about the burrito. Now onto the coffee...I'm not gonna say it was the worst cup I've had, BUT it was close. Now I can't really hold that against them because I don't think they're known for coffee, but sheesh. Maybe I got a bad batch. They do have a wide variety of food and I would go there again. Give them a go if you in that area.

Yelp
I have been here for group breakfasts, study sessions, and a glass of wine in the afternoon with girlfriends. This is a good spot for some breakfast food, coffee, or a beer/wine if you are spending the day walking up and down Divisadero. As a student, I like using their space during the week days to study. Keep in mind they don't have many outlets and wifi is turned off to guests on the weekends. The company is mixed, each person there for a different reason whether its to work, dine, or celebrate the end of a long day! The dishes I have tried have all been delicious and the service is friendly. I have heard good things about the sandwiches, and I am hoping to try out more of the meny soon! I am grateful to have a cafe like this in my area, and I recommend this to anyone looking for a more causal dining experience in the area.

Yelp
We came in here for a quick brunch (highkey a hangover brunch haha). Overall, the food is pretty standard - the eggs benedict and pancakes were both okay however, we would probably opt out of ordering the crepe. Just FYI - you go up to the counter to order. If you are eating there, it's pretty packed as the cafe itself is a pretty small space with the seating REALLY closely set with others. There's honestly nothing really bad about this place however, nothing really makes me want to come back unless it's a spontaneous stop.
google avatar

Ju L.

Yelp
When it was super hot last week, we came here to get a cold drink. I tried their Thai ice tea before and knew it was good so I had to get it again. There is a lot of seating inside and outside. The price seems to be reasonable as well. I saw people doing their work in the cafe so it seems like a casual place you can go to do your work. The drink came out super fast and the workers were all very nice!
google avatar

Kedar V.

Yelp
Yikes, really slow service (one hour for a burrito and eggs?), expensive, and mediocre food that is under seasoned and needs lots of hot sauce! A bit surprised considering the place is always somewhat full. The staff are nice, but I think they're just overwhelming themselves on the weekends with too many tables and too few staff. Can't say I'd ever think to come back here again!
google avatar

Vanessa M.

Yelp
This place is incredible! The crepes are so good and the service is great too. The ambience is very relaxing, it feels like you are in a piece of France. There's so much to choose from too, highly recommend for any meal or the day especially breakfast/brunch!

Yelp
Good space, open longer than normal coffeeshop, and have some cool snacks. Don't forget to try Chagaccino.

Alex Z.

Yelp
Great study spot and great vibe. Food is always good and the people working there are always nice

Harris M.

Yelp
Nice looking cafe. Everything else, disappointing. Bad music ( the kind of acid jazz liked by about 5% of the general population. Place only had a few patrons there, but the bagel I ordered toasted came after a long time lukewarm warm because the server was busy talking with a friend about how much she hates her job. Bad experience. Last (and only) time I'll be a patron there.

Yelp
I know this cafe has been around since at least the early 1990's because I remember coming here with some bros when I was a youthful whippersnapper with perfect hair ready to conquer the world. OK, that wasn't me. I was the geeky guy who sat by himself at the counter with a cup of tea watching life pass him by. For no particular reason, I had not been back in years. I have to admit I wasn't aware they serve cafe food like a Crepevine and even have lookalike rainbow chalkboard menus. The place is still a neighborhood favorite, and I must still be that geeky guy, So far, I've reacquainted myself with a piping hot $3.50 Hazelnut Coffee and a $4.25 Ginger Lemonade (photo: https://bit.ly/3ZtLNxn). I promise I'll graduate to hot food next time I see an open table. BEVERAGES - 4 stars...satisfied with my libations on my two recent visits AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...yes, it looks like a Crepevine SERVICE - 3.5 stars...rather low-key...I have to admit I didn't feel the warmth TOTAL - 4 stars...let's get reacquainted, shall we? Yelp
My favorite cafe in the neighborhood, hands down! If you are going to Alamo Square Park this is the perfect place to get food for the view at the top! There are plenty of vegetarian and pescatarian options! My go to's are the Athens Salad and the Bodega Bay. I've been coming here for years and it has never let me down! The owner Mike is so kind and welcoming to every one that comes in! The outside seating is lovely. It is definitely worth the stop!

Yelp
I came here with a friend after yoga at Yoga Garden for lunch, and it was the perfect corner cafe to catch up over coffee and food here. The ambiance was bustling, with lines of people weaving through the tables every 10-15 minutes. I was craving a hamburger and decided to get it; it reminded me of a whopper from burger king because of the sesame seed bun and texture. They put a mayo/mustard spread in it; it was okay. They chop and grill the onion, I like a lot of onion and prefer it raw, so I'll ask for that next time. If I were to eat it again, I would get the burger without it. I also got a salad for the side, which was about $18 altogether, a bit overpriced for a basic burger. My friend got the breakfast burrito, and it didn't come with meat, but it looked delicious. Also, the mushroom coffee tastes like regular coffee.

Yelp
I used to love hanging out at Bean Bag back in 2021. It's one of the few cafes that's open late and it had power outlets and a cozy little fireplace vibe that made it great for late night studying or writing. I'm back for the first time in a couple years, and I'm sorry to say that I'm disappointed. They boarded up all of the outlets, the wifi doesn't work, and the place doesn't feel nearly as cozy anymore. It appears they're trying to pivot towards a reputation as a brunch restaurant. I've never been here for brunch, so I can't speak to that experience, but I'm unfortunately going to have to find a new late night writing spot.

Yelp
most won't want to believe this...but these are the best street tacos in SF just trust me on this one

Yelp
Delicious breakfast burrito and friendly service! Both the spicy salsa and pico de gallo are fantastic!

Yelp
Went here for brunch with a few friends about a month ago. We waited a while because we didn't realize you should go up to the counter to order your food, so keep that in mind! The breakfast burrito and smoothie that I had were both okay, but the burrito was honestly a bit bland (maybe I should have asked for hot sauce) and the smoothie tasted a little artificial? Not really sure. The wait staff were all friendly, but there wasn't anything super special that I would come back here for.
google avatar

William E.

Yelp
My wife and I split a breakfast burrito, it was very hearty and had good flavor. It did need a bit more salt, but I prefer that to being too salty. Great service as well and we enjoy the calm, chill atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!
google avatar

William S.

Yelp
Either honor the hours that Yelp says you're open, or update the hours in Yelp! I wish I could have tried you out, but after an Uber trip across town to find you, I find myself now standing on the corner hoping there's another cafe open late around here tonite.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place and come here all the time. They have a huge menu with everything you could want for brunch or lunch. The owner Mike is super nice and the staff is also very friendly. Everything I've had here has been delicious and reasonably priced, well seasoned but minimal and healthy. They have a fantastic breakfast bagel. My favorite crepes are the tuscany and vienna, and their petaluma sandwich also hits the spot. On top of sandwiches, omlettes, crepes, burgers, and tacos, they've also got a great variety of drinks. I'm giving it 4/5 stars because some of the drinks are a bit too sugary and there's no option to reduce the sweetness. The decor/lighting also are not the most inviting - I wouldn't have chose to come inside based on looking at it if a friend didn't bring me inside once.
google avatar

Connie C.

Yelp
All I want is a grilled cheese sandwich & a bowl of cream of tomato soup. When someone figures out how to make it super simple, they will have a gold mine.

John S.

Yelp
I've been going there for tears now and Mike , the owner, and his staff like Sophia couldn't be any nicer to me. I get my coffee there all the time and it's always been to perfection. Although I've only dined there a few times the food has been quality and tasty.

Anmol G.

Yelp
They still got it, even their ice water is delicious. Everything is always very clean & well maintained, the service is always impeccable. Love this place.

Yelp
As a neighborhood local, Bean Bag is a great corner spot! Though I have bias because my friend Jasper is a barista here, the drinks and paninis truly are amazing (not to mention the service).
google avatar

Meghna N.

Yelp
The chagachino is yummy! I got a vegan version of it - iced chagachino with soy milk. It was amaaaaazing!

Sienna V.

Yelp
Their menu is large and diverse. They have handmade tortillas for tacos which were very soft and supple. The service was nice and attentive too.
google avatar

Steph C.

Yelp
A great neighborhood cafe with the sweetest owners and staff. They are always cheerful and kind. Strong house coffee. Haven't had a chance to try most things yet Open space and airy with good WiFi.
google avatar

Lindsay B.

Yelp
My favorite place in the city!! I've gotten their lox bagel 10+ times and it never disappoints, the loaded sprouts are amazing. My bf has gotten the breakfast burrito 20+ times and begs to go back everyday. Their chagaccino is the only "coffee" drink I like, hot or iced is delicious. The staff is all incredibly nice and welcoming, thank you Mike!

Yelp
On my 46th birthday today, I treated myself and my dear friend Yabette to brunch down the street from her home at this wonderful cafe. We started our mid-morning with lattes and life reflections at a bistro table by the fireplace while either 90's club music or a jazzy beat flowed through the place. We each enjoyed a delicious grilled chicken and pesto crepe, hers with sautéed mushrooms, almonds, and Parmesan cheese, mine with feta just added. It was a huge tasty experience! And the lightly spiced home fries completed the meal. For the first time dining inside a restaurant since the pandemic or just a nice reminder of San Francisco cafe culture that still exists, I highly recommend Bean Bag Cafe.
google avatar

Yixuan L.

Yelp
Cute neighborhood cafe with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. Super friendly staff and food is ready in no time. I got the California sandwich and the portion was huge. A great sandwich for when you're in the mood for something filling but not super heavy. The micro greens in it were delicious!! The salad greens were fresh and the dressing was a vinaigrette. Would recommend checking this place out if you're in nopa!

Seb S.

Yelp
the service and the ambiance is phenomenal every single time! and the food always come promptly and always super delicious!

Yelp
Great service friendly staff and delicious coffee. The flavor and texture of the latte was perfect and the temperature was great. They had an easy going vibe making for a great experience. Def recommend
