SF Coffee Shops With Free Wifi and Good Food | Eater SF

"If you’re expecting to work while sitting on a bean bag, you’re going to be disappointed as they don’t actually have any of those. Everything else though will make up for it. Their food menu is huge: eggs, pancakes, sweet and savory crepes, sandwiches, salads, and burgers. They even have dinner plates if you’re working late. Drink a coffee, tea, or smoothie during the day, or get a $2.50 beer during happy hour (every day from 3 to 10 p.m.)." - Ellen Fort

This cafe has one of the best hot chocolates! Burritos options seemed really good too, but did not try. The cafe has a cozy ambiance, makes it perfect to work/read/ relax.

Good vibes, good coffee, and the space doubles as a good place to work or chat with friends- I saw both happening. Large and small tables inside accommodate different group sizes. A fairly large cafe space for SF. I rarely drink coffee but tried the chagaccino (iced) and really enjoyed it! Free wifi, outlets, and lots of windows provides a good work place. Bathroom available as well. I’d say noise level can range from quiet to moderate, depending on how many people are inside. The staff were super friendly!!

We really need to find something to share. The burritos and burgers are huge. My carnitas burrito was delicious and came wrapped up in foil. Dawn's burger was a little too greasy making the bun soggy. The slushy was good.

Google
Great place. I had the Cheese Steak. Everyone else had the burritos. Everything was delicious. ESPECIALLY THE FRENCH FRIES! Maybe the best fries I've ever had.

Vilde K.

Google
Absolutely slept on cafe in the area! Their potatoes are so good (better than Eddie’s down the street) and their omelets and pancakes are super good. Maybe skip the breakfast burrito, but everything else is great diner food for the price!

I used to go to this place regularly over 20 years ago with my then-young child for breakfast, as we lived nearby. We always enjoyed it. Fast forward to today, and as a nod to that tradition, my now-adult son and I still come here about once a month for breakfast. While I know the ownership has changed, we’ve continued to appreciate the memories. Today was one of those visits. We ordered our usual breakfast, and my son also got a smoothie. We were sitting outside when, as I was setting the smoothie down, it accidentally tipped over, spilling about half of it onto the table. I asked my son to go inside and see if they could refill it. A lady came over, saw the spill (I assume confirmed it hadn't been consumed), and said she would replace it. However, when she returned, she brought a smaller to-go cup with a much lighter-colored smoothie that looked very watery. The original one had been thick and rich — this was pale pink and runny. I asked if this was the same smoothie we originally ordered ("Fruity Ruby") because it looked and tasted completely different. She said it was. I explained that it didn’t resemble what we were first served — I had seen the original being made. She just shrugged, clearly not interested in resolving the issue. It felt like she took the remaining half of the original smoothie, diluted it with water, poured it into a smaller cup to make it appear full, and handed it back. That was disappointing and unprofessional. Honestly, I would have understood if she had just said, “Sorry, since it was spilled, you'd need to pay for a replacement.” But to bring back a watered-down version and pretend it was freshly made felt dishonest. We left it there — maybe she can enjoy it herself. Sure, we only come once a month and aren’t regulars, but what happened to basic professionalism and integrity? If this is how they handle a simple smoothie, it makes you wonder about everything else. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning.

Stylish and cozy coffee shop with affordable and delicious coffee. In a complete full menu that I’ll be trying later.

The baristas are consistently friendly, engaging, and professional. I always feel welcomed, and they've been great at remembering my usual order. They clearly go the extra mile to provide personalized service, whether it's assisting me with a complex request, offering excellent menu recommendations, or simply brightening my day with a warm interaction.

Yelp
Such a CUTE brunch spot with huuuuge portions for a casual Sunday munch and yap with friends. Mike, the owner, I think, is the absolute sweetest. I will definitely be adding this place to my rotation of go to's in San Francisco. When I first when, I ordered their cheese steak which was super yummy. Meat wasn't dry at all and the bread was soft on the inside but crunchy on the outside. There was some unexpected kick from jalepeño too. Spice was maybe a 2/10. It comes with home fries or salad. The fries were well made perfectly crispy and thick. Dish that took my heart away was the Barcelona savory crepe, which my friend ordered and I took just one bite of. It was so yummy I had to come back the next morning to order my own. It comes with either home fries salad or potato hash or a combo of any of the three. I got a combo of potato hash and salad. The potato hash was absolutely incredible! This cafe has pretty generous portions especially if you order the pancakes I think? (Woman next to me had ordered pancakes and only managed to finish half!) I also ordered an emerald smoothie which has kiwi lime orange juice and banana and was light and refreshing. Service: again, Mike was such a sweetheart and suggested I come back to try their tacos which I definitely will! Food came out extremely fast, I was pleasantly surprised. Ambiance: there's indoor and outdoor seating with a roofed patio. I prefer the outdoor seating to chat with fri

Yelp
Amazing neighborhood spot with sweet and savory crepes that come with potatoes! We ordered the chicken pesto and lyon crepes (lemon mousse with brown butter) and it was my first trying both flavors. The service was fast and you order at the counter and find your own seating. Super casual place that is perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Yelp
Genuinely one of my favorite-ever study spots! This place just feels like home. They are incredibly nice and accommodating. The smoothies are delicious, and the fries are perfectly salted for only $5.50. They also have some tables near outlets in the back.
google avatar

Jessica E.

Yelp
Ordered the Barcelona savory crepe and it did not disappoint; it was so good! I ordered their iced coffee drink chaga something, it was alright but a little too dark. We sat outside and it was a beautiful day. The food came out pretty quickly. There is plenty of seating inside as well, a lot of people working on their laptops. It was a bit quiet inside so we choose to go outside instead. The person who took my order and my co-worker's order was great and just gave off the best cool and kind aura. I look forward to coming back to try other things in their menu.

Yelp
Work from home lunch on a rainy cloudy day the cheeseburger was just right to help power through the rest of the work day. No line when I went in but the warm cafe filled up as the lunch hour went on. Many customers seemed to be looking for a short break from the passing rain. Probably should try their crepes since it's the main part of the menu but just wanted something filling with a side of fries. Fun spot to people watch due to the busy divisadero traffic.

Yelp
Came here to hangout at the cafe and use their WiFi (free). The cafe was spacious, clean, and played good background music. I ordered a Thai tea (~$5), was decent. I didn't get anything to eat but they had a bunch of customers coming in an out for their food so I'm sure it's good! Will def come back to try some.
google avatar

Erica C.

Yelp
Solid brunch spot! The servers were nice and food came out relatively fast. They did forget some ingredients in my dish but quickly fixed it. The asada burrito was delicious! The eggs benedict was also good but nothing special. It's a cute little cafe that I'll likely come back to again for a quick bite!
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
iced oat latte was a bit acidic, but only slightly. the chicken pesto crepe was great, the crepe was packed full and the chicken was tender. the tuna melt sandwich wasn't that special and the focaccia was a burnt and not very airy, but the fries were crispy and nice

Yelp
BRAVO to the staff and management of the Bean Bag Cafe, who had the guts to open on New Year's Day and Feed The Five Thousand with their customary good grace and tremendous skill! Thank you!
google avatar

Zoe Y.

Yelp
GET THE BURRITO - SO DAMN JUICY! When you walk in the restaurant, you will need to order at the counter before choosing a seat. I would recommend sitting outside when the weather permits!

Rachel T.

Yelp
Amazing place! You can tell the owner really cares about his cafe and patrons. The food is great and well priced. There is wifi!! And the place is very clean and cozy
google avatar

Yelp
I was looking for the phone number and saw there's only 4 stars??! How can that be? This place is awesome! Solid food, plenty of seating inside and out. The owner is such a damn gem. What the hell more do you want!

Sarang C.

Yelp
Customer service lacking and food is below average. Ordered eggs and hashbrowns, and it was not advertised that the hashbrowns had onions in it. When the order arrived I indicated that I did not eat onions and did not read that it was included in the hash-browns. The cooks refused to remake it and I ended up paying $23 for two over medium eggs and a piece of toast sliced in half .

Yelp
Solid place! Cozy, comforting, yummy, no frills. Staff is nice and food is good (pretty basic).

Yelp
This place is probably one of the best brunch places i've ever had. No joke. It does get a bit crowded because it's mostly people studying/doing work in this cafe. We just opted to eat on the outside patio instead. The workers are so kind and sweet and communicative. We ordered: Chicken Pesto Savory Crepes (with side of potatoes), Cheeseburger with Fries, and Cheese Steak Sandwich with side salad. Unfortunately they ran out of steak for the sandwich but were so grateful for the update and replaced the steak with chicken instead. Everything looked delicious and was a good portion size too. Even better and worth its price. The fries and potatoes were SO crispy we were so curious on how they made it so crispy snd yummy. Everything tasted delicious and yummy, my cousin really enjoyed her sandwich even though it had to be replaced with chicken. The only one small thing is the chicken pesto crepe and that the chicken tasted a bit dry. But the sauce was amazing and the crepe tasted good overall but thats all we wanted to say about the chicken for the crepe. Overall i would love to come back here next time I'm in town :)

Yelp
Had a nice time for breakfast here while visiting SF. Wife ordered a breakfast plate with eggs and pancakes and I ordered the huevos rancheros. All the food was great overall. Don't know what they put in those breakfast potatoes but lawwwwd it was good! The pancakes were probably the best we had in our trip during our breakfast/brunch visits throughout the city. There is a bus stop right across the street and it's a short walk to Alamo Square park where you can see the painted ladies! Service was great and felt homey and there were many regulars in there. They did forget my drink I ordered and had to go to the counter and ask. No harm no foul on that.

Yelp
Let's give a toast to the neighborhood cafés that have survived San Francisco's transformation over the last 20 to 30 years. There aren't many of them. Beanbag is one of the survivors. Homely, basic, friendly and classic. You will find better, small batch, bespoke, coffee, and breakfast sandwiches elsewhere, but you won't get the personality. You won't get the sense of a neighborhood institution. The folks here are friendly, there is free Wi-Fi and a pretty extensive menu. Everything is fine. I usually go for breakfast and Tim never disappointed. If there's anything I don't like about it it's that there are always techies in here having their little techie meetings. Investment this, capitalize on that, scale, blah, blah, blah. But it speaks to that this place is spacious and chill.
google avatar

Richard H.

Yelp
Located a block away from Alamo Park and two blocks from the painted ladies. This is a great neighborhood coffee shop with an extensive food menu(breakfast, lunch and dinner). Smoothies, espresso drinks, and adult beverages. Ten beers on tap(Stella Artois $6 happy hour). They also have a restroom for customers.

Yelp
What a great, comfy, cozy spot! This would be the perfect spot to hide out in on a rainy day. There's friendly service and many tables (high-top and standard) and window-side seating. The all-day food and drinks menu is huge. It had everything I wanted except soup. I hope they add it to the menu, particularly for the winter! The Hamburger and French Fries (thick cut, well seasoned) were delicious. Relaxing jazz plays in the background. The vibe reminds of the old, classic Barnes & Noble cafes. I'll be coming back for sure. There were many people here on a Saturday afternoon, including friends, a family, and several solo diners reading books and working on a laptop. I heard several people inquire about the WiFi here, but I didn't hear the response so I'm not sure if it was available or not. Complimentary water and glasses located in the front. One single-stall bathroom in the back.

Yelp
We had made reservations next door for Thanksgiving but it was closed. We were very happy Bean Bag Cafe was open and the staff were just so kind. The food is average cafe food with large portions considering the price. Highly recommended for the service.

Yelp
I don't think I've ever had better home fries. They were super crispy on the outside and a had VERY hot mash potato texture on the inside with a hint of onion and potato skins. I loved all the vegetarian menu options though the grill surface is shared as I did have a 1" piece of bacon in my home fries with no complaint from me. I ordered the falafel wrap and was very pleased. I saw the strawberry pancakes on the table next to me and I admit I was envious. The tuna melt was also a hit and it is served open faced which was a nice touch.

Yelp
The day that my gf and I went to the Bean Bag Cafe we weren't planning to go. My partner's car had to get towed and we were waiting for the tow truck to come by. We initially stopped by to get some coffee because we were so tired from the night before. We both came in; she ordered an iced matcha latte while I got a hot mocha with oatmilk. The man at the resturaunt was really nice. While we were waiting for our drinks we saw the menu and made a mental note to come back another day. After we dropped of the car to the auto shop we decided to go back because we hadn't eaten anything. The man at the register was surprised to see us again but was really nice. My gf had gotten an eggs Benedict plate. I had the Popeyes eggs Benedict which came with red onions and spinach and I had an extra cup of coffee. We also shared a stack of buttermilk pancakes with strawberries. Everything was delicious. My gf said her potatoes were a little burnt...but mine were fine. They were crispyyy. I think the reason why I gave this place 5 stars was because we were having such a rough day but when we came back and spoke with (what we assumed was) the owner of the restaurant, he made us feel 100% better. He made us feel welcomed and was very enthusiastic that there food was going to warm us up. The place does get a little crowded but is still a nice little area to do some homework. I recommend this spot for college students or small groups of people looking to have great food and a cup of coffee

Yelp
First time visiting. I was looking for a cafe open late. The chagaccino was delicious. Mushroom coffee and they use Monkfruit sweetener. Definitely worth it and coming back for more!

Yelp
My husband and I visited this location for breakfast on a weekday morning around 9am. There were several people already seated but we were still able to get window seating for our laptops and food came in 10-15 minutes. The 1 waitress was very friendly and was able to attend to everyone quickly even as it got busy. The chorizo breakfast burrito was soo good and made my croissant egg and cheese sandwich a lot less exciting in comparison. For 2 people we spent $53 on 2 breakfasts and 2 coffees.

Hank L.

Yelp
Great menu. Excellent food and service. Owner and staff are delightful. Active vibe.

Yelp
We came to support a local shop for breakfast and ordered 4 breakfast tacos and 2 beverages for a total of $60 before tip. After tip that's over $70 for 4 tacos and drinks .. at a local diner??? We actually caught the owner charging extra fees to our bill today without letting us know. It was just around $6 extra but still didn't feel right especially considering the coffee was watered down, the eggs were powdered and we had to bus our own tables. The menu says breakfast tacos are $6.50 and extra protein is $2.25 - we were charged $9.45 each taco with a standard protein and then $11.00 for breakfast tacos with steak- that's $4.50 extra for carne, which is almost the price of a whole carne taco on its own. I was served a watered down regular sized chagacino but charged for a large. These are minor upcharges but they were not communicated and therefore felt like a violation. Almost $70 (with tip) for 4 tacos and two drinks at a local diner is absurd. I will not be returning nor recommending.
google avatar

Timothy C.

Yelp
Food: large portions and the food itself is good. I had the breakfast burrito with chorizo and it was good, but not great. There's so many more places that have better breakfast burritos, and it didn't help that I felt it was very overpriced. We also got the chicken pesto crepe with home potato's. The crepe was good, cheesy, and packed with good pesto that tasted great. The potato's were also very good! Enjoyed it a lot. Service: the man at the front who took my order was nice, but he didn't give me a receipt when I ordered. I had to go back and ask for the receipt.. it's small, but giving someone a receipt or asking if they want one should be standard practice at any establishment/restaurant. All in all, okay food, but very overpriced. I think we paid close to 40+ dollars for a breakfast burrito and crepe. 3.5/5.

June Z.

Yelp
Welcoming staff. Food and drinks were great. The owner was very friendly and caring. Such a cute place.
google avatar

Rosalie A.

Yelp
We came here on a whim, and are so pleasantly satisfied! The regular house coffee is honestly full bodied and perfect, as well as the food being delicious! I got the Alaskan savory crepe and it was so unique and flavorful. I had a 10/10 side salad which is not always that restaurants nail down a delicious house dressing too so that was a plus. My boyfriend got the eggs Benedict wrap, that was good for being more of a traditional American flavor palette. Overall, I would highly recommend this spot especially if you want something more casual/ no table service.
google avatar

David Y.

Yelp
While in SF, I was told about the Bean Bag Cafe and that it had a wide variety of options. The place was nice, bright and open. In typical fashion I had to give the breakfast burrito a shot. For meats I got bacon and chicken sausage. The burrito was great size and very filling. The only issue I had was it seemed as though the chicken sausage had a sweet taste, which I am not a fan of. Other than that no complaints about the burrito. Now onto the coffee...I'm not gonna say it was the worst cup I've had, BUT it was close. Now I can't really hold that against them because I don't think they're known for coffee, but sheesh. Maybe I got a bad batch. They do have a wide variety of food and I would go there again. Give them a go if you in that area.
google avatar

Jacob L.

Yelp
Love this place. I've lived in SF for 10 years, and these are the best tacos in the city, imo. Handmade tortillas, juicy, flavorful meat, and amazing salsas. Don't sleep on it!
google avatar

Joe R.

Yelp
What a great corner on the visitor of this place is a fun café where you order upfront has nice chill vibes and you can sit where you want indoor or outdoor. They have a large variety of items, including crêpes, omelettes and Benedict. I settled on the Popeye Benedict, which is spinach hollandaise with an egg with their fries, which are closer to a hash brown cause they're so well minced and extremely tasty. I have to say these are the best home fries I've had in San Francisco ever and I do highly recommend The front counter. Staff are very kind and friendly. Very patient and the service help seem to be very quick and on their feet getting food out too very quickly. I do highly recommend. It's very nice relaxed atmosphere and you can tell a lot of people like to come here over and over again Just like my friend who said this was his regular hangouts and I'm so glad I was able to share it with him. Haven't been here before, but definitely will be coming back.

Jade J.

Yelp
We came in here for a quick brunch (highkey a hangover brunch haha). Overall, the food is pretty standard - the eggs benedict and pancakes were both okay however, we would probably opt out of ordering the crepe. Just FYI - you go up to the counter to order. If you are eating there, it's pretty packed as the cafe itself is a pretty small space with the seating REALLY closely set with others. There's honestly nothing really bad about this place however, nothing really makes me want to come back unless it's a spontaneous stop.

Yelp
I know this cafe has been around since at least the early 1990's because I remember coming here with some bros when I was a youthful whippersnapper with perfect hair ready to conquer the world. OK, that wasn't me. I was the geeky guy who sat by himself at the counter with a cup of tea watching life pass him by. For no particular reason, I had not been back in years. I have to admit I wasn't aware they serve cafe food like a Crepevine and even have lookalike rainbow chalkboard menus. The place is still a neighborhood favorite, and I must still be that geeky guy, So far, I've reacquainted myself with a piping hot $3.50 Hazelnut Coffee and a $4.25 Ginger Lemonade (photo: https://bit.ly/3ZtLNxn). I promise I'll graduate to hot food next time I see an open table. BEVERAGES - 4 stars...satisfied with my libations on my two recent visits AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...yes, it looks like a Crepevine SERVICE - 3.5 stars...rather low-key...I have to admit I didn't feel the warmth TOTAL - 4 stars...let's get reacquainted, shall we? Yelp
The best neighborhood coffee shop and cafe. Cozy and great service. Recommend for work or catching up with a friend. Casual

Yelp
The Bean Bag Cafe, I love this place the crêpes there are so good so so chocolatey and just a place of love I love going there. I've been going there for years. This place never fails me. You have to try everything from the tuna melt to the breakfast the lunch, the pasta the Paleo is my favorite I'm So happy they brought it back to the menu This place has had our entire families heart for years. Just stopped by food still magnificent Bean bag cafe for the win

Kedar V.

Yelp
Yikes, really slow service (one hour for a burrito and eggs?), expensive, and mediocre food that is under seasoned and needs lots of hot sauce! A bit surprised considering the place is always somewhat full. The staff are nice, but I think they're just overwhelming themselves on the weekends with too many tables and too few staff. Can't say I'd ever think to come back here again!

Yelp
I came here with a friend after yoga at Yoga Garden for lunch, and it was the perfect corner cafe to catch up over coffee and food here. The ambiance was bustling, with lines of people weaving through the tables every 10-15 minutes. I was craving a hamburger and decided to get it; it reminded me of a whopper from burger king because of the sesame seed bun and texture. They put a mayo/mustard spread in it; it was okay. They chop and grill the onion, I like a lot of onion and prefer it raw, so I'll ask for that next time. If I were to eat it again, I would get the burger without it. I also got a salad for the side, which was about $18 altogether, a bit overpriced for a basic burger. My friend got the breakfast burrito, and it didn't come with meat, but it looked delicious. Also, the mushroom coffee tastes like regular coffee.

Yelp
There breast bagels with added bacon are spectacular. There omelettes are well prepared and hash browns are delicious. My boyfriend orders the pesto crepe and burrito both of which are good. Love their ambiance it's local and upbeat. Their service is fast and reliable and convenient for me definitely going back for another visit. Their coffee and orange juice are superb.

John K.

Yelp
Gave me a raw a** burger and tried to pass it off as "medium rare" which isn't even an option then tried to convince me I ordered it "medium rare "Got mad refused to trade it for something else. And the owner or manager had and ugly attitude towards me even though I was nice about getting a raw burger and he kept barking about a refund I didn't even ask for

Yelp
This place is incredible! The crepes are so good and the service is great too. The ambience is very relaxing, it feels like you are in a piece of France. There's so much to choose from too, highly recommend for any meal or the day especially breakfast/brunch!

Yelp
Good space, open longer than normal coffeeshop, and have some cool snacks. Don't forget to try Chagaccino.

Yelp
My favorite cafe in the neighborhood, hands down! If you are going to Alamo Square Park this is the perfect place to get food for the view at the top! There are plenty of vegetarian and pescatarian options! My go to's are the Athens Salad and the Bodega Bay. I've been coming here for years and it has never let me down! The owner Mike is so kind and welcoming to every one that comes in! The outside seating is lovely. It is definitely worth the stop!
google avatar

Wendy T.

Yelp
I love this place and come here all the time. They have a huge menu with everything you could want for brunch or lunch. The owner Mike is super nice and the staff is also very friendly. Everything I've had here has been delicious and reasonably priced, well seasoned but minimal and healthy. They have a fantastic breakfast bagel. My favorite crepes are the tuscany and vienna, and their petaluma sandwich also hits the spot. On top of sandwiches, omlettes, crepes, burgers, and tacos, they've also got a great variety of drinks. I'm giving it 4/5 stars because some of the drinks are a bit too sugary and there's no option to reduce the sweetness. The decor/lighting also are not the most inviting - I wouldn't have chose to come inside based on looking at it if a friend didn't bring me inside once.

Harris M.

Yelp
Nice looking cafe. Everything else, disappointing. Bad music ( the kind of acid jazz liked by about 5% of the general population. Place only had a few patrons there, but the bagel I ordered toasted came after a long time lukewarm warm because the server was busy talking with a friend about how much she hates her job. Bad experience. Last (and only) time I'll be a patron there.

Yelp
I used to love hanging out at Bean Bag back in 2021. It's one of the few cafes that's open late and it had power outlets and a cozy little fireplace vibe that made it great for late night studying or writing. I'm back for the first time in a couple years, and I'm sorry to say that I'm disappointed. They boarded up all of the outlets, the wifi doesn't work, and the place doesn't feel nearly as cozy anymore. It appears they're trying to pivot towards a reputation as a brunch restaurant. I've never been here for brunch, so I can't speak to that experience, but I'm unfortunately going to have to find a new late night writing spot.

Yelp
most won't want to believe this...but these are the best street tacos in SF just trust me on this one

Yelp
When it was super hot last week, we came here to get a cold drink. I tried their Thai ice tea before and knew it was good so I had to get it again. There is a lot of seating inside and outside. The price seems to be reasonable as well. I saw people doing their work in the cafe so it seems like a casual place you can go to do your work. The drink came out super fast and the workers were all very nice!
