I just had my last experience at this cafe. My family have been frequent diners since they opened, and the food is good, obviously. However, the (I'm assuming owner)older gentlemen could use some thorough classes in customer service.
My mother hates confrontation, but today she asked for a cappuccino and what she got was pretty damn bitter. I tried to help her drink it because we didn't want to waste it, but only managed two sips. Almost tasted burnt... so I encouraged her to say something. She simply asked for it to be taken off the table and stated it was very bitter. She did not ask for it to be taken off the bill because we did drink some of it, but the waiter was kind and did take it off of the bill.
I watched as he took it back and the older gentleman questioned our waiter, I watched his (older gentleman) entire demeanor change and he was visibly upset. The older gentleman scowled at our table a few more times, shook his head and after we finished eating, he came to grab our card to pay.
Well, before walking off with the card he says "so you had the espresso experience?"
My mother told him the same thing she told the waiter "it was a cappuccino and yes, it was very bitter"
His reply was "we use the same bean every time for the cappuccino so next time order a regular coffee. I'm sorry you had that experience". This was not a friendly suggestion, this was his attempt at reprimanding a customer he didn't agree with.
Even if they do use the same bean every time, that's not exactly the best way to make a new suggestion to a returning customer. He was rude and condescending. It's a shame because when he decided to belittle a customer, he ruined business for his entire staff.
There are plenty of good cafes and we will be choosing else where to spend our money.
Gave them three starts because the food is good, and the rest of the staff is very nice, but not worth the stress of having to speak to or deal with the older gentleman.
