King County Temporarily Closes Flowers Bar & Restaurant, Citing COVID Violations - Eater Seattle

"Seattle’s popular food truck devoted to taiyaki, a fish-shaped Japanese dessert, is opening up a brick-and-mortar space. Seattle Refined reports that BeanFish owner Brady Woo will move into the International District’s Uwajimaya food hall within the next six months. The truck sells taiyaki featuring everything from Fruity Pebbles to katsu chicken and slaw." - Adele Chapin

BeanFish is one of my favorite places in the ID. And here's why. I've always been a lover of Japanese street food, of which taiyaki is a staple. When I first moved to Seattle several years ago, I came across BeanFish's food truck in Westlake Park once, and I never saw it there again to my immense disappointment. When I heard they were opening a shop in the Uwajimaya food court, I was estatic. They have tons of unique and delicious flavors, including the flavors traditionally found in Japan. It's made to order, so it's always piping hot and fresh. If you haven't tried Taiyaki, it's like a waffle with filling, and it's delicious. I cannot recommend them enough!

We enjoyed our food. My spouse got the Mmm Bacon and I got the waffle with Katsu chicken. Both were good and made well. We both agreed that we would go again if we lived in the area, but since we are just visiting a revisit is not likely to happen, at least not for sometime.

I was not planning to eat here, but I found myself hungrier than I expected while I was wandering through chinatown, and I am glad I stopped in here and purchased a fish shaped waffle filled with sweetened bean curd. It is one of the more traditionally Japanese options here, and I greatly enjoyed it not simply because of the reasonable price but because it reminded me greatly of my time wandering around Japan. That's sad, there are also a great variety of more Western kinds of options, and all of them are very filling and encased in such a flaky and crispy outer covering. Ask the gals at the front for recommendations, and they will not steer you in the wrong direction. It was an adorable and sumptuous delight, and it gave me the strength to walk about six or seven miles, all the way to Madrona Park and back to Capitol Hill. I cannot provide a stronger recommendation than that.

So good!! I got the Ramen Fish, and left the shrimp out for me because i’m a vegetarian. Very kind and quick service, along with a delicious and warm lunch.

Good spot for some sweet treats. We came here to try the fluffy pancakes like in Japan. The pancakes took 20 mins to make so be patient. The whipped cream and coconut chips go really well with the pancakes. However pancakes aren't as fluffy as the ones in Japan, taste more like the ones here. That's not to say it's bad but don't expect Japan quality. It comes with two mini cheddar taiyaki. The taiyaki batter is really good, and the cheddar cheese worked better than I thought. I will definitely be coming back to try their other flavors. Overall really good taiyaki, pancakes are fun but don't expect the best.

yes. Yes. YES! We've been waiting to try BeanFish out ever since we discovered it a year or so ago, when it was sadly closed at the time. And despite having passed through Seattle multiple times since then, and as a trip to Uwajimaya on the way home is basically a requirement, our last few visits to the Emerald City ended up being past closing time, so we've missed out and been jonesing to try BeanFish several times. Finally, we managed to make it on time, this last weekend. Verdict: hell yeah! Tasty taiyaki treats are truly terrific! I had the K-Pop (kimchi, korean kalbi beef and pepper jack cheese), while my wife had the Big Kahuna (Spam, Japanese 7-Spice, pineapple pepper jack), both of which were exactly what we were looking for. And although mine was a little smaller than hers, she ended up being unable to finish the massive thing, and passed the savings onto me! Obviously we tend to prefer savory over sweet, but there were a couple that definitely would have tempted us, had this not been planned as our evening meal, and we both were stuffed by the end of it. Regardless, we have a new Uwaji's food court favorite, and it will be hard for us to choose otherwise during our next visit to our favorite grocery store!

Google
Lol, the original price of one fish cake red bean was $5.21, but they raised it to $6 for the CIdD food walk. I asked if the price was still $5.21, but she told me the total of $6.35 was after tax on the $5.21

Google
Very delicious and located in a very good location as it was very clean and has enough tables and seats. There’s a maket and many other food stops next to each other like a restaurant marketplace. Very nice spot at Seattle’s Chinese town. They have A+ by the city code as I mentioned their place is very well organized and clean.

Yelp
Just watching the making taiyaki making process is a treat. Such care is made to cook them the exact right amount and to trim off any extra bits. Convenient location in the grocery and by other food stalls. We highly enjoyed the Gimme S'mores, but it was truly difficult to decide, since the menu has such inventive choices. We also saw some people getting the soufflé pancakes, which looked incredibly fluffy and fun. Will need to try taiyaki in Japan now!

Yelp
Located inside the supermarket, the shop was packed with many people waiting for orders outside their shop. They make their taiyaki fresh and takes about 10min. 6/10 Ube Taiyaki $7 - Ube was very artificial and still did not taste that strong. Filling amount is pretty little so the bottom is all bread. Taiyaki itself was hot, airy, fresh, but the texture was more cake like that I expected. 6.5/10 Matcha Taiyaki $7 - Matcha flavor was better but again very artificial. TIP: Go on their facebook page and message them for BOGO if you want to try it.

Yelp
Convenient food stall right in Uwajimaya with a ton of savory and sweet taiyaki options. You can watch them make it right through the window which is really cool. We just tried the classic red bean one, which was very good. Tasted like a pancake filled with not-too-sweet, fresh red bean paste. There were several other flavors, including an ube custard, that we would have also liked to try. Unfortunately we live across the country or we would!

Yelp
First time coming here and it was quite a treat. I got the savory taiyaki called Domo Arigato Mr Roboto. Haha. Consisted of chorizo, bell peppers, onions, pepper Jack cheese and tortilla chips. Quite an interesting combo and taste. Friendly staff and was able to recommended a few savory flavors. We also got their monthly Donkii Kongu (coconut banana vanilla custard). Also delicious. Price was quite high for taiyaki but when you are on vacay you gotta be free to enjoy it! Will be back here soon. As this was a store they didn't have its own seating. It's part of Uwajimaya food court so you have to sit at communal areas.

Yelp
We were absolutely thrilled to find authentic taiyaki in the food court at Uwajimaya grocery store. It's something we haven't had since Japan, so it was a real treat. My husband got the Jiro (adzuki bean paste), and it really did look and taste like the real deal. The batter was nicely cooked, and the filling was just right. It's simple, but sometimes simple is best! I was really intrigued by the rest of the menu as well. There are some really cool flavor combos, and I really enjoyed watching the taiyaki maker do his thing. There are big windows so you can see all the action. If I ever come back, I'll definitely pop by to try one of the savory options.

Yelp
Always missed their food truck but finally caught them at uwajimaya. Good quality, a treat since pricey per piece. I went with the classic red bean & dokii coconut seasonal. Tasty. Workers keep it running meticulously. Impressed with the operations. Better deal (less choices though) at Somi Somi but they have been sold out of red bean the last two times (tukwila). Nice treat in Seattle.

Yelp
Childhood memories came alive as I tasted a freshly grilled bean fish today for the first time as an adult. I grew up on this & it was one of my favorite childhood treats. It still incites warm, cozy memories of biting into a hot, fresh bean fish on a cold winter day. I got the original red bean & also vanilla custard to switch it up. Fluffy waffle with tasty, generous filling. Ooey gooey goodness.
google avatar

Yelp
Really warm, fresh, and flavorful! We got the Donkii Kongu (monthly seasonal for October) -- taiyaki filled with toasted coconut, banana, and vanilla custard! Wow, between the three of us who shared it, we all LOVED it. Not overbearingly sweet, and all the ingredients were perfectly balanced. Pretty sure they use an actual banana in it, so it tasted like Thai Fried Banana a bit. The only thing is that, for me, I like a mochi-dough texture for taiyaki (like Somi Somi), and this one is more bread like. My friend says she prefers the bready texture, so perhaps it's just personal preference.

Yelp
Located inside of Uwajimaya, BeanFish makes a variety of taiyaki ranging from classic red bean to crazy savory concoctions that you won't find anywhere else. The plainer options will be around 4 bucks, while the unique items will be just over 7. However, they do load up the savory options quite a bit and they're unique enough that I would say those are worth it. They make all the taiyaki to order, so I wouldn't recommend them if you're in a hurry. Personally, I didn't really like the batter they use - it's a regular pancake batter, not the slightly mochi-esque, chewy one like SomiSomi's which I like a lot more. Mmm Bacon (3.75/5): Reminded my friends of a McGriddle aka breakfast with a bit of sweetness. There isn't much contrast in texture unfortunately as the tater tots are just soft potatoes with no crunch and while they are very generous with the amount of bacon, it's also heated up in pancake batter and ends up just with a slight chew texture. Colonel Custard (2.75/5): Not enough custard at all and the custard kinda bland. I want something a little thicker and sweeter considering how bland their pancake batter is. Thick Cut Fries (2/5): I'm biased against thick cut fries and I thought these were too soft. They were fluffy in the inside which was nice, but I'd 100% skip these.

Yelp
Really excited to see a taiyaki spot in Seattle! It's located inside Uwajimaya food court. I got the jiro (red bean) flavor and loved it! It wasn't too sweet and the filling was really generous. They make each one fresh so it's warm when you get it! The price ranges depending on what filling you pick but the jiro was about ~$5. Staff was also really friendly and helpful. Definitely would recommend trying this spot out if you're in the area!

Yelp
BeanFish is simple but complex. The simple part is that it's a waffle with the filling of your choice. The complex part is choosing from all of the great options and not over ordering because you cannot make a decision. The service is great! Just keep in mind the food can come slow depending on the toppings, my recommendation is eat your fish as soon as you get it. As my grandpa would say to me when I was a boy, "it's good when it's hot". As for Ambiance, it's a market so there are several choices a grocery store and a book store. Would I recommend this place, why yes I would. You should try it!
google avatar

Yelp
Beanfish is inside the Uwajimaya grocery store within the food court. They make fish cakes with an assortment of fillings; red bean paste, cheese, peanut butter, Saigon cinnamon & sugar and many more! You can personalize your fillings too! Served fresh and hot. Crispy outside, fluffy inside. Shell is similar to an American pancake batter. As these are made to order, they take a few more minutes.

Yelp
BeanFish is located in Uwajimaya's food court section, and I love stopping by to pick a Taiyaki up when in the area! My go to order: - custard They make it fresh to order. They do have a surcharge when you use a credit card. But honestly, can't beat a hot pastry for under $5! Love this spot!

Yelp
We had to try the soufflé pancakes at Bean Fish. We ordered the "big" plate for $21 and it came with Hello Kitty eggs, sausage & egg mini dish waffles, and the soufflé pancakes. The mini fish waffles were tasty and something we'll be duplicating at home. Be prepared, it does take a while to make the soufflé pancakes so you do have to wait in the Uwajimaya food court area - which can be VERY noisy. The plate is totally worth the price. It's a good size portion for one or a comfortable morning nosh for two. My only issue was that the pancakes weren't evenly done. One side was still quite doughy. I've had better soufflé pancakes but these were tasty, despite the uneven cooking. I'd come back and try again next time I'm in the ID.

Yelp
I mean...I only went here because a local foodie was telling me that I HAVE to try the oatmeal bean fish. I think my only gripe is the price. I get that it's 2023 and we've got inflation, but the dang bean fish was average $8 or something nuts. The price varies depending on the item, too, and I think some are $8 or so? The things is small, too. The oatmeal one was surely a good, solid, 4/5 stars though. Would I get it again? Yes. Would I pay $7-$8? -______-' no comment. 3.5/5 stars.

Yelp
A hole in the wall restaurant within a building at the grocery store and Asian (manga & anime) bookstore. There are other food stalls adjacent if other people want different types of food.
google avatar

Yelp
Saw this spot while walking through the food hall. I love taiyaki so this was pretty exciting! They have several kinds of sweet and savory options. My only bummer is that they don't have a ton of vegetarian savory options, but maybe they might add more someday. They are pretty efficient despite having so many kinds on the menu and you can see them making them through the window which is pretty cool. This is in the food hall so seating is limited. We took it to go and it came in the pastry paper so you can hold it and eat as you go. It was pretty warm but we were able to eat as we walked once it cooled a little. Definitely want to go back and try more!

Yelp
A fun snack after grocery shopping. It's nice you can see how they make the cake, quite fascinating! The staff was fun lol after saying I'd like a 'I Love You So Matcha' he replied 'thank you that made my day.' I'm a big matcha person so I enjoy my matcha fish a lot. The runny matcha is creamy and mildly bitter, it balances the sweetness from the cake. I wash down the cake with the can green tea I get from UWAJIMAYA, it's good! My boyfriend loves the blueberries and lemon custard one, for me it is too much. I prefer my desert not sweet (:
google avatar

Rona Q.

Yelp
Located inside uwajimaya. They serve taiyaki that comes in a variety of flavors to choose from. I got the sweet potato with walnuts and it's was good, not too sweet and the walnuts added a crunch to it.
google avatar

Gihani D.

Yelp
Got the strawberry Nutella one, it was okay. For over $7 including tip, it's pretty small. It was very warm and made to order which I liked. Not very sweet, which I would have understood for the more traditional flavors but was surprising for an obviously western flavor. The service was good and it seemed popular. There is seating at the food court but when it's cold outside, it's chilly inside. The doors on either side create a wind tunnel effect sometimes.
google avatar

Lena G.

Yelp
I got the mini taiyakis of red bean and custard for a work party. I've never had them here butt lol the risk since Somi Somi doesn't allow pre-orders. The dough was really dry and overall just doesn't taste good. I was embarrassed to have brought it to the party. I have not tried the regular size taiyakis nor the savory flavors so those might be good (?) thus the great reviews here? Either that or people maybe just have not tasted better taiyakis out there. I don't know, but don't get the mini ones for sure

Yelp
I decided to finally try this tiyaki food store since I always see it while going to Uwajimaya. There are seatings outside the store which is convenient to enjoy your sweets. Not much ambiance to the store since it's a place to quickly grab food. The service here were friendly. The server was pretty nice to us and kindly answered any questions we had. It took about 5-10 mins to make the desert, which was an appropriate amount of time. The tiyaki was delicious! I got the princess indigo ($4.08) which contained Nutella and strawberries. I can't believe I didn't try these earlier. The waffle was warm and lightly crisp. The Nutella and strawberries were a great combination and really enhanced the savory taste of each other. There are a lot more food options to try here and I can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Yelp
BeanFish makes Japanese style taiyaki with a fusion twist, filling the fish shaped treat with both sweet and savory fillings. Tonight I tried the blueberry and lemon filled taiyaki. It was just sweet enough with fresh blueberries and a lemon curd. It was very good . I definitely need to try some more options
google avatar

Ciera B.

Yelp
This is in the food court area of uwajimaya. My friend and I tried it before heading back home. She got the red bean original and I got the blueberry and lemon custard. I thought it was pretty good but not very sweet. It was lacking some flavor. However, still good.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Love the different flavors. Custard and cheese are my favorites. Hate how a 15 minute soufflé pancake actually takes 30 minutes. Also would be much better with a sauce or syrup. This is just a dry pancake w a tiny puff of whipped cream and a few slices of fruit.
google avatar

Yelp
Straight delicious. I'm a sucker for goldies, sucker for dough-slightly crunchy-pancakey goodness with goodies inside. Sucker for sweet, savory, fatty, you can have whatever u likeeeee, stacks on deck, oops, thinking about a different type of sweetness. Seriously though, had the bacon/egg/green onion - just one of these near enough to fill you for breakfast or lunch, also the custard. Huge lover of custard and it pretty good! Would like the custard slightly hotter though. I wonder if you can ask to slightly cook the dough a bit longer because I like a bit more crunch to it. Should have asked! Really fare pricing for the quality and deliciousness. There are other older pictures where you see more egg and bacon popping out the goldie, thats the only reason I didn't give a 5 star, maybe they updated the quantity they put in or I just got a substandard one? Still, it was again, delicious and for SURE coming back for more. PRO TIP - Eat on the spot! Don't be whack and take it somewhere to eat 10 minutes later. Thats not the optimal way to enjoy this. Saw some reviews stating that it was soggy, well DUH, common sense should tell you this type of epicness needs to be enjoyed hot off the press and cannot be allowed to be cooled.

Yelp
place is located in a food court at a asian market called uwajimaya. area is clean with typical shared tables and seats. simple menu. focus on taiyakis with various fillings and a souffle pancake. decided on the OG red bean stuffed taiyaki $5.5 and the souffle pancake $24 and side of maple syrup $0.85 cents. total damage $30. they make per order so waited 25 mins and out came the food. and the verdict? taste wise its ok to good. the taiyaki is avg taste wise. and not sure what batter they are using but it has an almost cake like texture. too soft and doesnt have that chew that it traditinally has. as for the pancake souffle , it isnt as fluffy as others ive had in the past. too dense imo. and price wise its too high for the portion you get. portion just so small. overall, while the quality is fresh and good. price for the taste doesn't justify for me to eat here that often. oh well tried it so now off to another food adventure.

Yelp
I made sure I stopped by this place because I love lucky fish!! I'm so glad I did. I tried a few flavors and also the jiggly pancake combo. I highly recommend this place! So delicious!

Yelp
4/5 stars (Initial impression) As part of the CID Food Walk event, a good friend and I decided to get some taiyaki to commence our food tour. Walking into Uwajimaya is already such a joy, and the impressive display of taiyaki making and flavors certainly made us stop and swoon. This day, I choose the fish option for my savory choice (name was written in Japanese so I don't know the actual name) and the special of the week, Blueberry Lemon, for dessert. The fish option was good. But a few things could have made it better. I loved that the fish wasn't dry, but it was a tad bland. It needed a little more salt to enhance the fish flavor. Some shredded cabbage and bonito flakes (okonomiyaki) style would have made this phenomenal. Or even a drizzle of unagi sauce or ponzu. Again, good, but missing that extra pizzazz. The dessert option was great! I'm a fan of lemon so this was refreshing after the heaviness of the fish. If I'm being picky, I would have liked a crunchy element. Throw some corn flakes in there, something lol. Otherwise everything is made fresh and my nitpicks aside, I enjoyed my first try at Bean Fish! Will def stop by again to try the other flavors.

Yelp
So good! I'm glad they have a "home base" now, but I wish the truck was still coming out to the Eastside, though.

Yelp
First time I came in April 2023 It was great. Ordered the Ramen Head with beef as I am allergic to shrimp, and it was pretty good. The owner came out and said they had never made the Ramen Head like that before, and that they would add it to their secret menu with my name. Cool. That was a pretty good experience. I came back in May 2023, excited to order my secret menu taiyaki, but when I ordered it both the cashier and cook looked at me like I'd sprouted a second head. Okay, that sucked a bit, but I wasn't going to let that ruin my experience. I ordered the Ramen Head with beef instead of shrimp again, and the attached picture is what I got. This is not normal. This is not what they're supposed to look like. To make things worse, the beef was cold in the middle--not just cool from being exposed to the air, straight up cold. Like, fresh out the freezer cold. I couldn't even eat half of it before throwing it out because it tasted awful this time, and I was nauseous for the rest of the day. I basically got a cold burger patty in a fish-shaped bun, and it didn't even taste good. I will never visit this place again, and will make sure my friends avoid it in the future too.
google avatar

Yelp
I have seen this place floating around in the past as a food truck but never able to make the times, so I am glad they now have a brick and mortar location at Uwajimaya. I decided to be OG and get the Jiro which is the regular taiyaki with azuki bean. Texture wise, the outside is good, a light crisp but mostly soft. The red bean is a bit sweet which makes this a nice dessert. However, it was pretty small for something that costs a bit under $5. Additionally, I was a bit disappointed that the batter was undercooked in the middle. Near the middle, it was gooey which was not palatable, and I was hoping it would be better than that for the price. While it is good that there is another dessert option in the Uwajimaya food court, I don't think the quality is there, where if I had to choose between dessert places there, I would probably still go to Dochi. Do note that they do charge a 35 cent credit card fee, and I don't think there is a minimum purchase to avoid the fee, making the already small, not good value taiyaki even more pricey.

Yelp
Super fun and tasty-- we tried the special, which was coconut and banana, and two of the apple pie. They make each order fresh and it is a delicate, well constructed treat. The person working at the counter was friendly and approachable. You can watch the other person working behind the counter making each treat fresh as it's ordered. Definitely worth trying!
google avatar

Susan C.

Yelp
This is located inside the Uwajimaya Japanese Market in the food court. We needed a snack and this was the perfect snack to have as we didn't want to fill up before dinner. The jiro was made to order and consisted of your classic red bean paste. It was hot, it was crispy and it hit the spot!

Yelp
I really liked BeanFish when it was a truck. Stopped in last night and got 5 waffles; Jiro (azuki bean), Colonel a custard (custard), I Love You So Matcha (vanilla custard with matcha), Harajuku Chic (fruity pebbles and marshmallow comes with a side of condensed milk), Mrs. Smith (apple pie filling and topped with cinnamon sugar). Honestly, the best one was the fruity pebbles and original, it had the most flavor. The custard was okay, lacked flavor. Matcha was super bitter, like there was too much matcha powder. The apple pie was okay, the middle was pretty tart but still better than the others. For 30 bucks I had higher hopes.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I wanted to go to Uwajimiya for some lobster sensation from the seafood counter (really good; highly recommend trying!). We were starting to get hungry as it was almost lunch time, so we stopped by the food court and saw taiyakis at this spot! Both savory and sweet! It's located right across of the plate lunch and poke lunch stalls in the food court of Uwajimiya, on the side of S Weller Street. There's only paid street parking and lots around the area which could be difficult to find during lunch and dinner hours and also during the weekends. We got one savory and one sweet taiyaki to try. We've never really seen a savory taiyaki before, so we were quite intrigued. We got the K-Pop with Korean BBQ beef, pepperjack cheese and kimchi. I originally thought it would be like bulgogi but the beef was more of a meatball style. The way the workers made it was pretty crazy as he kept stacking meat after meat until it was a pile! I was wondering if it would even fit as a taiyaki at that point (peep at pic). But WOW. He made it happen! And WOW, this savory taiyaki was VERY good. My boyfriend and I were both pleasantly surprised at how flavorful the beef was. Soooo good! I kept wanting another bite until there wasn't anymore LOL. For the sweet taiyaki, we got their seasonal Okinawan sweet potato (not on the menu) which came with sweet potato and walnuts. This wasn't what I anticipated and not a favorite for me. I didn't know there would be walnuts, so I was caught off guard while eating it. There was minimal sweetness from the sweet potato, so I felt that the balance between the potato and walnuts were kind of off. My boyfriend liked it but wasn't in love with it compared to the savory taiyaki we got. Overall, a great semi-meal (but a little too much to be a snack?) place to check out! They have a variety of different savory and sweet flavors to choose from and try to pack in as much filling as possible. Will definitely be back in the future!

Yelp
* 3.5 stars Lemon Blueberry fish was pretty good. Tons of blueberries, and some lemon but not overpowering. It's a good snack but it's not a full meal. Most of the items are pretty expensive though be ready to spend $8-9.

Yelp
Do get any of the waffles with strawberries and Nutella Fairly quick considering you can watch them make them right in front of your own eyes! Absolutely delicious must get every time I'm in this food court

J S.

Yelp
Looks like somi somi, does not taste or resemble somi somi at all. Go ahead and try it if you're curious but it's totally not worth it It's literally tasting like Klutz waffle batter shaped like a fish with some cheap fillings

Yelp
I likes the Beanfish. It's cool watching them make it in front of you. I really likes the Nutella & strawberry. Ofcourse you have to get the original red bean one too. Service was fast and quick.

Cool freshly made sweet and savory snack in the form of a fish. Cool to watch your order being made right before your eyes. Kids enjoyed the whole process. Final product was good. We ordered the red bean and apple pie. Both were sweet w/o being syrupy. Also, purchased here count towards parking.

Yelp
I'd waited years to finally try Taiyaki when I discovered this place, and it was certainly worth the wait. I got the custard and matcha flavors, both of which are great. They also let you watch the process of making the Taiyaki, which was cool to see. I highly recommend this place; it's a must-try if you're in the area!

Yelp
Haven't been to the truck so trying at the new kiosk at the food court at Uwajimaya was my first experience yesterday. It's cool how they made it so you can see them making taiyaki. Not sure if I'd get the savory they're a little on the high side for my wallet. I'm a bit if a traditionalist I went with the Jiro filled with sweetened organic azuki bean. Nice amount of filling to taiyaki ratio. Flavor of the azuki very reminiscent of childhood treats. I had a large lunch coming so didn't eat it till later. Would definitely eat it right away next time when it's more crisp. But was good and would definitely try some of some of the sweet ones again. Maybe try the minis to share with some friends.

Yelp
Extensive menu that allows for breakfast Taiyaki, snack Taiyaki, or dessert Taiyaki. One of our last visits so we opted for the dessert side rather but were intrigued by the many options. Will have to revisit to form an opinion on how meat, bacon, or cheese fit inside a Taiyaki fish. We got a I Love You So Matcha Taiyaki with Gimme S'mores Mini Taiyakis. They're pretty standard options so there were no surprises. The Taiyaki was pretty standard (3 stars) because they matched every other Taiyaki whether it were from vendors, inside stores, or at night markets. Extra star for service. Lady who took our orders and handed them to us was super friendly and took the time to make conversation. Made sure to warn everyone that their Taiyaki wrappers were double sided (two openings) and to be careful. Told me to make sure and give the mini Taiyakis a nibble as they're so small and was super cheery. Great vibes all around, awesome energy, and left a perfect impression. Didn't catch her name but I hope she's identifiable and gets the recognition she deserves. An actual location is opening inside Uwajimaya soon, so that'll be amazing. No more trying to hunt down the food truck. Excited to visit the store and potentially try more unique choices. Who knows, maybe it's a spot to order a breakfast Taiyaki, get one that's more of a meal, and then finish up with dessert Taiyaki. Could be a fun opportunity and special occasion.

Yelp
This place caught me and my friends eye because of their taiyaki or fish shaped waffles. My friend said she heard great things so we tried it out and they had so many options from savory to sweet! We went with the savory option or the big kahuna which has croissant dough, spam, pineapple and paperback cheese that sprinkled with powdered sugar. It was so tasty! They also packed a lot into it which is why the fish has more of a box shape to it. I think I would come back to try out some of their other options such as the "Oh sugar, sugar". The big kahuna was also $9.52.

Yelp
So, I love the food here, absolutely, but the when it comes to the app, it isn't easy to work with. I accidently hit Pick-Up rather than Delivery, which was what I meant to hit, and then I realized I couldn't cancel my order due to there being no option to do so on the app. So I had to reorder delivery and I am now out of an extra 27 dollars. I also called the number on the app several times and no one answered the phone.

Yelp
**KIOSK in Uwajimaya Food court ** Food: for being how fresh it was, it was not very crispy. The dough is soft, but was not as amazing for the wait. Flavors and fillings were spot on, lots of fun options. Service: nice, but the nature of freshness, it took a long time. They were very meticulous in making each order, taking temperature of the grills constantly. Ambiance: lots of space to wait around. The glass is very fun to watch them make the orders. Area in food court to sit and eat. Value: expensive for how big they were. Quality is there. Recommend: it's okay.

Yelp
BeanFish sells taiyaki which is Japanese fish shaped cake. It's not fish flavored, just fished shaped! The delicious outside is a fluffy, soft and warm pancake with some kind of oozy and hot filling. Traditionally, there is red bean past in taiyaki (hence the bean part of the name), but they have a lot of other fillings to choose from. My favorite vanilla custard but sometimes I mix it up and get the "I love you so matcha" with its vanilla custard with matcha. I haven't had any of their savory ones yet, but they look decadent and amazing. I've seen this food truck at the Fremont sunday market and outside of the International District Daiso. I always feels like it's my lucky day when I see it parked outside! They're planning to open up a store front in Uwajimaya (Asian Grocery Store), which I'm so very much ready for.
