Where to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Eve in Boston | Eater

"Beantown Pub is not an Irish pub, per se, but no local Boston bar would be replete without a St. Patrick’s weekend celebration. From the Old Granary Burying Ground along the Freedom Trail, follow the lights of the marquee sign across the street to this casual pub with an on-site coffee bar. Boston’s famous (yet hard to find) baked beans and brown bread are on the menu, while the whiskey flows from late morning until 2 a.m." - Molly McDonough

Where to Drink Espresso Martinis in Boston This Winter | Eater

"To turn your Freedom Trail walk into a bar crawl, start at Beantown Pub. Across the street from the historic Granary Burying Ground — one of the trail’s first stops — the inviting marquee sign and wood paneling of this local pub tempt a detour. You’ll need some coffee to fuel up for the long walk anyway, and Beantown’s bartenders shake up a solid version of the classic espresso martini with Kahlúa and Absolut." - Molly McDonough

Boston’s North End Successfully Rejects Starbucks | Eater Boston

"A southern outpost of a downtown Boston pub is set to open at 29 3rd St. N. in St. Petersburg, Florida later this month, promising Boston-style vibes with better weather; the concept will aim to blend fine pub dining and casual drinking, offering staples like burgers and beer to bring a bit of Boston to the new location." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Google
Fun bar with two different eateries, a coffee house on one side and bar on the other. Stopped in to try the famous Boston baked beans with brown bread. Beans are cooked in house, sweet and tender. Bread for me was too sweet but others in my group liked it. Nice beer selection too and a fun take on drinking Sam Adams while looking at him. His burial site is across from the bar.

The drinks were amazing. House fries had a good crunch. Pretzels could have been better. The service was amazing. Would definitely go again

Google
A pretty unique place where you can "drink a cold Samuel Adams while viewing... a cold Samuel Adams" 🤣. Took a picture from the table nearest to the window and facing the grave. Asked for special shaved ice drink with Orange flavor and whiskey. It was delicious. Sometimes worth asking things off the menu! Tried the fried pickel for the first time, apparently per my friend who had tried different fried pickles in the past that it is one of the best he has had - crispy outside with just right amount of batter and the thickness of the sliced pickel was also perfect 😎👌👌. Had a good time there.

Google
Only the most famous pub in Boston. Where else can you go to have a cold Sam Adam's while checking out a cold Sam Adams....😉👉 Great staff and great food still after 20 years which was the last time I was here. Stop in and grab a Beantown Ale.

Google
Great place! Food was good, loved the sports atmosphere. They were short on help, but our server was fantastic! I have a lobster roll and was happy with it!

Google
This place is a 10/10. We were in Boston for 5 days over St Patrick's day and we first stopped at Beantown after our flight. Immediately, we were greeted with amazing food and a great staff. Over the next few days, we found ourselves returning to Beantown for the incredible food, welcoming staff, and the rugby games. We tried everything from the lobster roll, burgers, wraps, hotdogs, and wings. Everything was so good. Everything you'd want on your first trip to Boston. Beantown can easily be a one stop shop for the best wings, lobster roll, and wraps in town. I highly recommend this pub. It truly made our trip special and allowed us to introduce our Irish friend to the best first experience in America. Special thanks to Sharon who was so generous and hospitable to us. We felt like regulars after only a day. Our wait staff and bartenders were incredible as well. Matt, Michael, Bailey, and Kathryn made this place extra special during our stay.

Very busy but good vibes. Food was good, especially the lobster rolls and lobster tacos. Beans were meh.

Google
Good food, the pastrami sandwich was a little bit skimpy on the pastrami compared to other places that pile it on, (but it wasn't stingy) and it was really good. The Sam Adams on tap here can't be found anywhere else except Boston from what I hear. And it's really good. Worth the effort. You can see Sam Adams gravestone out of the front windows of the bar. We had a Sam Adams while looking at his grave.

Yelp
I have been here several times and it's always been a great! When you walk in you definitely get that pub feel and there is so much space! A huge bar, lots of tables and seats as well as a pool table area are what await you when you walk in. The food has always been excellent! It's a great combination of different American classics from chicken to burgers to sandwiches. This visit, I ordered the Beantown Burger while my husband got the Chicken Tender Platter. The burger was cooked very well and their savory house sauce gave it a very nice flavor. My husband says his chicken tasted very nice with the spicy sauce he had it tossed with. They both came with French fries which were nice and crispy and seasoned well. The portions are great and the food came out quickly. The waitresses were also very friendly and made sure to come check on us often. Thank you to all the staff for a great meal and experience!

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick coffee while visiting some historical sites in the rain and it was the perfect place to take a little break! Staff were friendly, and the drinks were exactly what we needed to continue our journey.

Yelp
This place is the bomb. Not only three pool tables, but crazy jumbo lobster roll and can double lobster for almost nothing. Staff are so joyous. Good place. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great standard American bar/restaurant. Great spot to watch football there are lots of TVs, pool tables and a whole back section. Very large bar for the area. Food was very good, I got the chili and it had a small kick but great flavor. Our server was super fast. We had a large group of 10, she got everything right and brought us our drinks really fast and made sure to keep coming back for refills.

Yelp
Great choice for bar food and a drink. I ordered the burger and it was actually quite delicious. The menu offers a variety of interesting choices. It was later in the evening and my party and I decided to try this place out for a quick meal. The Red Sox's were in town playing and the bar had a lively feel too,it. It's in Boston after all. My friend ordered the pastrami / corned beef Paul Revere sandwich and said it was absolutely delicious. Of course I ordered a Samuel Adams beer during my meal. Everything was great. Thank u. Solid choice.

Yelp
Convenient location-- right outside of Park St station. One of the more "well-known" pubs in Boston, chock-full of the city's sports culture. Worth a shot for tourists, locals a 50/50 if you want to come back here. Really middle of the road kind of place. Came for dinner on a Thursday night with a friend, it's a seat yourself kind of place. Lots of TV's playing a myriad of different sports and a pool table. That was awesome. Food is unfortunately average at best. Soft pretzel nugget appetizer was decent for the price but pretzels were overly salty, easy cheese dip was the best part. I ordered the Sam Adam's grilled chicken sandwich-- the portion was huge but the chicken was just okay and the bread was cheap, and not toasted. Fresh veggies were a bit tasteless and made the bread soggy. Not restaurant quality, reminded me of school lunch a bit. I regret not trying the baked beans, I'm sure my review would have been a bit better had I tried them. Overall, good place for some sports, drinks, and fun with friends but food is just okay.
google avatar

Yelp
Swung by after work for a pint and some food. Music too loud to talk, food mediocre, Guinness not the best. Given the convenient location may give it one more go.

Yelp
Can't comment on the food as we were not acknowledged to put in an order. Upon entry there's a sign that states " Seat yourself." We did, waited 10 minutes, noone came over , so we grabbed menus off the bar. After another 10-15 min, still not acknowledged. Some waitress walked by so we stopped her and asked how we order. She, in a matter of fact tone responded with did anyone give you those menus? We replied no, noone came over , to which she again in a crap tone responds thats why you aren't getting served. We obviously annoyed her as she was quite nasty . We walked out; how are non locals supposed to know the logistics of this place when NO SIGNAGE is posted and noone acknowledges you in the first 10 minutes youre there??? We noticed several people walk out from sitting at empty tables complaining amongst themselves about lack of service so this place doenst care about customer service, tourists will still stop in due to the location.

Yelp
Their website says it's the only place you can drink a cold Sam Adams by a cold Sam Adams and I think that's hilarious. Had to come, of course! It's right off the Commons so it's an easy location. Service was good. It's a seat yourself type of place. My burger was phenomenal but ironically, the Beantown beans were not good in my opinion. They tasted old for lack of a better explanation? I'm from the South so I've had my fair share of baked beans and these were not it. Just don't order them and you'll love the food here- like I said, the burger was fab. Not sure if there's AC - it's not cold but it's not as hot as outside so do with that what you will. Prices are average, maybe even better than average depending on where you are in Boston.

Yelp
4/5 stars but I'm taking one star off because they skipped my friend's songs!!! Beantown Pub! What do you guys have against Dreams and Nightmares :( The cheesy fries were delicious and the gravy was the star of the dish. For only $13 you and your friends can split this savory dish while spilling tea. We wanted to accompany our snack with a game of pool but they only allow $2 worth of quarters to be fed into the pool table machine. And so, that would require to handle the quarter machine and I was too scared to work that. So maybe next time! Overall great service, fun dive bar feels, and AMAin fries and gravy.

Yelp
So for a pub my expectations weren't very high but this was a gem. Getting served was a little confusing but once my server knew I wanted to order she was very friendly. Surprised by how many vegetarian options they had! The stir fry was steaming when it made it to me. They had a large selection of alcoholic beverages. My only complaint is I really wanted a slice of pie but the kitchen closed before I could order! As the other review had said. Have a cold Sam Adam's while staring at cold Sam Adam.
google avatar

Arron S.

Yelp
Horrible service!!! Sitting on patio waitress waived to me twice but never came to take our drink order. After 20 minutes she waited on table behind us. We left without ordering
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner and had lobster Mac and cheese and the nachos with guacamole. So delicious and the bartender kept the ice cold beers coming. Great atmosphere and great service!
google avatar

Samantha H.

Yelp
Being a tourist in the city this place was a must. We were certain the drinks would be cold but just hopeful the food would be good. The food was good! I had the lobster tacos but really like the tater kegs appetizer the best. The food did seem a bit overpriced though. Service was decent but it was starting to get busy and seemed like there weren't enough waiters. The inside was kinda cramped too.
google avatar

Yelp
10/10 menu! I've made it a personal goal to try every handheld there and each one has been great! The Beantown burger is easily in my top 5 all-time handhelds list, but the steak and cheese, Paul Revere, and honey chicken sandwich are high recommended too. Best of all, it's one of the only places in downtown Boston with pool tables (3 of them in the back, $2/game). Service is usually pretty quick, and it also has a great pub type atmosphere
google avatar

Yelp
Good food, with good beer there's not much else I can ask for out of a pub. Beantown is the place to go if all you really want is an iconic Boston bar where you can play pool and get a drink. On my most recent visit to Beantown I got the boneless Buffalo wings and my boyfriend got the BLT. The food was good and exactly what you would expect for bar food. It's nothing special but still hits the spot.
google avatar

Gregory F.

Yelp
Nothing crazy special here - decent enough variety of beers, super close proximity to The Orpheus concert venue where we were headed later that night. Took awhile to check out which sucked because we were in a bit of a rush. Very old-school divey bar with what appeared to be some decent food options too? Not enough TVs for sports broadcasts i.e. college football Saturday.

Yelp
What a great place to eat at and to people watch. We were greeted when we entered and served right away. The lobster rolls are amazing and let's not forget that kind of chowder delicious I believe it's worth the. stop.

Ryan R.

Yelp
Wonderful establishment, great staff great food better drinks. Ask for Julia, she's the best waitress that takes care of your needs promptly & professionally

Anon A.

Yelp
Great vibe, good food! Right across from the historical burial ground. Everyone that worked there was super nice! They seemed to be understaffed, so everyone working was stretched thin, but they were all so nice about it. The staff was great, but I recommend management staffing more people. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Wendy H.

Yelp
We stopped in here for a drink and tried the lobster roll which was the most reasonably priced one we had. It was also one of the best tasting which came with a decent portion of fries and Cole slaw . Service was friendly too. Many options for seating at the bar , tables, side counters and outside. Definitely will go back.

Monique W.

Yelp
Stopped to eat while walking the Freedom Trail. Great stop to people watch and enjoyed the "historic" ambiance. Friendly service and decent bar food. Wings and clam chowder were delicious. Drank a cold Sam Adams while across the street lays a cold Sam Adams in the Granary Burying Ground.

Yelp
Having our tour guide point out where Sam Adams was buried, (across the street at the Granary Cemetery,,) and letting us know that you could go to the Beantown Pub and have a cold pint of Sam Adams while looking at his grave; my husband wanted to stop in and experience it. We only had beer but they were nice and cold and the bartender and other patrons were friendly. So if you're in Boston; try it....have a cold Sam Adams while gazing at the grave of a cold Sam Adams.

Mori T.

Yelp
Great menu. I ordered the steak tips and they were delicious. Very flavorful and tender. Staff was welcoming and very friendly. It's a must!
google avatar

Rahi Y.

Yelp
This pub is in the center of many tourist attractions, so, it is an obvious tourist trap, if I can say that. I ordered hotdogs dish which took for ever to deliver to me. I was sitting at bar, and the bartender guy showed least interest to interact with not only me but the rest of the patrons at the bar. Obviously talking to coworkers was more fun. Finally I received my food, the dogs topped with chili and potato salad on the side was the most sad thing I ever had since last year! Beside the fact that cleanliness, in this establishment is questionable. This place maybe good for just drinks, but do yourself a favor and eat somewhere else.

Will H.

Yelp
Excellent local bar/restaurant & Billiards (3 tables) The atmosphere, food, great staff, and really friendly decent crowd makes this a must visit local pub!!! Thanks to everyone for making my wife's and my visit to Boston a memorable fun one!! (Also didn't hurt that we won 9 pool games in a row ) Thanks again for such a great place to visit!
google avatar

Liriola D.

Yelp
We ordered ribs and wings, both of them were delicious. The young lady who served us was very gentle and kind. The ambiance was what I expected.. cozy pub just in front of a tourist attraction. Try the beer! ;)
google avatar

Mike P.

Yelp
What can I possibly say that hasn't been said before. Iconic Boston eatery servicing all the classic Boston dishes. Place is always busy and it gets a bit dirty by late afternoon. Floors have lots of debris, tables have remnants of prior diners like water rings and crumbs. Seat yourself joint so you typically can only find an open table that could use a cleaning-so ask your server to freshen the table then come back for a drink order. Great place to watch the local sports teams. The avocado sandwich is really awesome if you just have to stick your your plant based diet. No Boston Cream pie for desert - supply chain issues was the excuse we got from our server.
google avatar

Nina C.

Yelp
Very cute pub in Boston--really liked the vibes. It was quite popping on a weekday night. Got the Paul revere sandwich with a side of Boston beans. The sandwich itself was really really tasty. I loved every single bite of it. All the ingredients tasted great together. I've never had Boston beans but it was an experience. It is slightly sweet, which I did not expect!
google avatar

Michelle J.

Yelp
My first night in Boston. This bar is around the corner from our hotel.. Beantown Pub!!! A great place to get a few drinks and tasty food!! Our Bartender, Michael Z., was PHENOMENAL!! He greeted us, welcomed us and made us feel at home!! He kept our glasses full and even made a drink from the past, Snakebite . I recommend Beantown Pub anytime you are in the area!!

Jon P.

Yelp
Great place and great service! I recommend paul revere sandwich and the watermelon vodka slush!

Campbell B.

Yelp
Food was great & service was wonderful. Definitely recommend stopping here for lunch! The Tator Kegs were a favorite!
google avatar

Sharon P.

Yelp
Great service, Sam Adams on draft, the fries are perfect and I think this venue serves the best BLT in Boston.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch, started with the baked beans, that were frost created here, and Brown Bread. Also had a lobster grilled cheese, that was so good. Service was okay, but that's okay, we didn't mind the wait for the most part. It was quite crowded for lunch. For ambiance, it's a pub, it's what I would expect in a pub.
google avatar

Dumond A.

Yelp
Neat pub across from a famous cemetery, with great staff. Unsure why this place only rates 3 out of 5 on average for other Yelpers...I had a great time! Came in on a Sunday mid-morning after the tourist-y stroll through the Granary Burying ground. Had a few things on my bucket list, as an out-of-towner, that I needed to check off: 1. Boston baked beans 2. Boston cream pie 3. Cold Sam Adams in front of a cold Sam Adams Our servers sat us promptly, gave us a simple breakfast menu with solid options (sausage and egg sandwich was great), and humored me with all 3 of the above requests with good spirits. Food was tasty and not overpriced despite the bar being in prime tourist-activity area. Staff checked in on us regularly to make sure we liked our meal. What's more, at least 3-4 people came in asking specifically to use the restroom - and they were freely allowed to by the bar, which is a really nice touch especially for families with young kids desperately needing some help. Apparently they have pool in the back and other good food options for lunch and dinner. If I'm back in Boston I'd happily drop by for another beer.
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
Having a gluten allergy and seeing mixed reviews, I was a bit hesitant to diner here. My husband and I are in for our wedding anniversary and are staying next door at the Kimpton. We decided to dine in and see if they had anything gluten free (I'm horribly sensitive to it). You seat yourself when you walk in, and your server brings the menus. Our waiter confirmed they had GF bread, so I got the Turkey club (added Swiss), and my husband has the Paul Revere. Our food was served hot, and it was excellent. I'm sure this place is packed out during sporting events - and it was quite busy when we dined in around 5:30 pm. I hate there are so many negative reviews - our experience was wonderful. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Tricia M.

Yelp
We walked in and it was pretty empty, so we found a nice sticky bar table to sit at. Our server was super friendly and attentive. We ordered a Tito's and Oj, a Jameson orange crush, and fried pickles. The drinks were good and fine. The pickles meh, could've lived without them. They weren't very hot and the ranch tasted bland. The whole kitschy "the only place to have a cold Sam Addams, while looking at a cold Sam Addams" was cute, it's located right across the road from the Granary Burying Ground. It was just okay, with so many other options in Boston I wouldn't go out of my way to go back.
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
The beans were a little bland and needed to be doctored, but it could be me. I'm use to pork and beans. They were good not great. The lobster grilled cheese was delicious and the fries were perfect. Yes the service is slow. But knowing this prior to coming in my expectations were low. The place is a pub through and through. The ambiance is fun! There are pool tables and games as well as outside seating. It was such a beautiful day.
google avatar

Thomas B.

Yelp
Wait times can be hit or miss. Clean though. Sam Adams buried across the way. Food was good, drinks were well made and staff was friendly. Not sure if they even have AC inside, it might've just been struggling in the summer heat. We ended up outside and enjoyed it. It's a fun spot, not maybe the best if you've got kids with ya. But would still give it a whirl if I had to with mine. Would definitely recommend stopping in. Their lobster roll was decent too!
google avatar

Janelle L.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Really really liked the brown bread with the beans. So good. The fish and chips was also excellent and fresh. Tried the house beer and it was pretty good! Boston definitely knows how to make a good beer. Staff was super nice. And the vibe is like a chill bar. I can see it being a lot of fun after dark.
google avatar

Christian E.

Yelp
Classic spot next to the Omni Parker House o get a drink or watch the sports game. Rustic and dark, it's got that pub smell you long for . Not really a good hideaway bar, but it gets the job done for a good, easy , sit down place if it's not too busy.

Bretta R.

Yelp
Service was awful Waited 15+ minutes for the bill after asking for it twice Waitress was rude
google avatar

Dimeisa M.

Yelp
I would not recommend this bar to anyone in Boston. The bouncer was super strict , one of our older friends left their ID and we were all in 30's and up and had ID's and denied us entry. Absolutely ridiculous. The food is disgusting. The only reason why there are not getting a one star is for the drink options and they have a jukebox and some pool tables to play. I rather go somewhere else.
google avatar

Catherine M.

Yelp
The only place where you can drink a cold Sam Adams while looking at a cold Sam Adams. This pub is ok. I had the cheese fries with gravy and they were good. My friend had the nachos and they were very soggy. They do have a lot of beers on draft. I think this place is better for drinks than dinner. Our sever also did not want to take our order or come back to check on us. It would have probably been better to sit at the bar.
google avatar

Katie R.

Yelp
Nothing but great things to say about Beantown Pub! We are from out of town but have made sure to return every time we come into Boston -- specifically for Megan and her amazing espresso martinis! She took great care of us, and recognized us as soon as we came in because on prior occasions, we made it clear how awesome her espresso martinis were! She also showed us different ways that she has tried espresso martinis, and made a lot of creative drinks that were DELICIOUS. She is such a sweetheart and we will be back anytime we have a chance to go to a Boston again. The bar itself was very clean, had a lot of options of TVs to watch sports on, and a great menu as well! Highly recommend!

Yelp
I stayed at the OMNI Parker House. One full week. Work trip. I had so much fun at Beantown Pub. We would stop in after work before going out. Then sometimes grab a nightcap on the way home. I tried many appetizers and entrees. All were great. Lobster roll. Chili. Pickles. Shrimp. The only item I did not enjoy was the popcorn chicken. Too dry. Didn't appear to be brined. Oh! I had the steak tips with broccoli and mashed potatoes based on the server's suggestion. Might have been my favorite meal in Boston. I had the lobster grilled cheese as well. I did not think it was going to be so good. It was amazing. Servers are friendly. Service is fast. They have a bouncer there keeping things cool. Three pool tables. Was easy to snag a pool table almost every time we went. Always a few seats at the bar and tables in the back. Typically packed but never "too" full. I probably was there a dozen times in those seven days. All told, had a blast here. Many laughs with my boss and coworker. They have a jukebox too where you can select songs. Just don't sing "too" loud or you may be asked to quite down. My fault. Looking forward to being back. We joked about not being able to return to Beantown during our flights home. Highly recommend. Will return.

Steve K.

Yelp
I'm a male. The bartender made me feel unwelcome after I finished my drink and continued to watch the Warriors-Timberwolves game. But he had his hungry eyes on the women at the bar with whom I was talking. Not cool.

Yelp
It was a fun place to look around in. It was convenient to get to. The wings were big with a nice sauce. I got the Paul Revere with a side of beans. The sandwich had a really good flavor. The beans were alright, I may have just been expecting more. The server was nice, we just weren't checked on after the food arrived...which too a LONG time. We did order wings and I know cooked to order they would take a little time but this was almost like the order wasn't rung in for quite a while. There were only two other tables and their food came out in a normal amount of time. I had to flag the server down for sauces ( I didn't notice any sauce on my sandwich) and drink refills. So the food was good but I unfortunately wasn't impressed otherwise.
