Bear Flag Fish Co. - Review - Newport Beach - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"As the sailboat out front flying a string of nautical flags suggests, Bear Flag takes seafood seriously. This casual spot has two locations in Newport Beach—one by Lido Marina Village, another in Crystal Cove. Both serve stellar fish that tastes like it was swimming just a few hours ago (and honestly, probably was). The fresh poke here pops, so grab a pound of it from the counter with some chips to start. The tacos and burritos are our go-to for something more substantial, with a long list of fillings to pick from, like black cod, halibut, snapper, octopus, and shrimp." - Cathy Park

9 Best Day Trips from Los Angeles | Condé Nast Traveler

"This delightfully nautical modern fish shack is the fast casual concept every beach town should have. It's a mix of families enjoying an after school special, surfers grinding after a paddle out, and beachcombers looking for a taste of chef-fisherman Thomas Carson's catch of the day. This is definitely some of the best poke on the mainland. Don't skip the ahi or salmon. They have some excellent margs on menu too, making for the perfect pairing for your fish taco or burrito." - Maxwell Williams, Krista Simmons

Bear Flag in Newport Beach is one of those places that consistently delivers, whether you’re stopping in for a quick bite or sitting down to enjoy a full spread with friends. The vibe is casual, beachy, and welcoming, and the staff keeps things moving while still being friendly and helpful. The Bear Flag Burrito is a must-order—packed, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Everything tastes fresh, and the ingredients really shine without being overcomplicated. The ahi burrito was another standout: clean, fresh, and cooked just right, with great texture and flavor in every bite. We also tried the oysters, which were fresh and briny, and the clam chowder, which was rich, comforting, and not overly heavy—perfect for a coastal spot like this. Even the pizza impressed, making it clear that Bear Flag goes beyond just seafood and does it well. To top it off, the drink selection paired perfectly with the food. The Pizza Port Chronic Amber and Sully Ale were both solid choices and rounded out the meal nicely. Overall, Bear Flag Newport Beach hits all the marks: fresh food, great variety, solid drinks, and a relaxed atmosphere that fits the location perfectly. A reliable go-to spot whether you’re a local or just visiting the area.

Solid fish joint serving up fresh poke bowls, tacos, and burritos. Two public Parking lots are available. One cost $10 for the hour and the other is free. Inside there is a good amount of seats but the place gets packed quickly. Expect to look for seating. Outside patio seating plus courtyard increases chances. They have a bar with limited seats. A seafood market selling fresh fish by the lb. The line was coming out the door but went rather quickly. You order at the counter, and are given a number. Pricing wise it’s premium. Poke Bowl is a hit. I can see why people rave about it. Guac was absolutely delicious. Food is fresh. But it’s not delivered to your table all at once which caused us issues. Missing fish tacos. By the time I got them they were cold :( They were just okay as the breading/seasoning were lackluster. Missing garlic crisps for poke bowl. Had to ask for them as well. The crisps really changed the depth of the bowl and had excellent flavor. Tip: Get rice as the base instead of the salad. 4/5 stars. Minus one star for missing essential order items.

Following my recent eye surgery, I was excited for my first movie outing. The Lido Theater was showcasing a new release, “The Lost Bus,” which prompted us to dine at a nearby restaurant prior to the screening. The ambiance and proximity to Newport Bay were undoubtedly captivating rendering the food quality almost secondary. Nevertheless, I found the Bear Flag Burrito with chips and salsa to be enjoyable. The tortilla was soft but well-rolled giving it excellent structural integrity. The panko-crusted white fish was nicely contrasted to the tangy crema, which had a smoky and spicy kick. Was that the Tommy sauce? The harmonious incorporation of classic filling ingredients(rice, black beans, pico de gallo, lettuce, avocado)provided the burrito’s great taste yet maintaining a light and refreshing quality. The portion size is substantial, and I recommend sharing or portioning it for later consumption. A charming patio area outside the restaurant served as an ideal setting for a late-summer meal.

Google
The halibut was so fresh but the real star of the dish was the sautéed vegetables. Could've had a whole plate of those! Atmosphere was very cozy without losing quality. Loved our La Bamba sushi roll and everything was brought to our table in a good time frame. Staff was friendly and they had a clear gluten free menu options list at the counter. There's an outdoor eating area as well. Definitely would come here again!

Google
Wonderful local fresh fish eatery with great ocean vibe! The fish is fresh, everything is delicious from the chowder to the bowls to the sushi! The staff is incredibly accommodating and don't miss the exquisite cocktails.

Google
They are so much better than California Fish Grill! I wish they had one near where I lived. I would eat here regularly. Lots of really delicious options for low-carb diets, which is incredibly hard to find. I had the salmon with sautéed veggies and an avocado. I also loved their tea. Even my youngest (6 years old) loved it. A couple of things to consider: drinks besides tea and water are not refillable like other restaurants, and it's really cramped. Decent for party sizes up to maybe 4 people (we had 6 and it was hard to sit together). The black beans aren't seasoned with much more than maybe a tiny bit of salt. I took a bite of my husband's beans. They're good! But not typical black beans. Service is good! Employees seem happy to work here, though they have some trouble helping with answering menu and ordering questions, but they're cheerful and try to find someone who knows the answer, but it can hold up the line and I felt a little awkward because I needed those answers due to dietary restrictions. While most of the restaurants we ate at in NB were very good, this is the only one I ate at twice during my stay because it was so delicious with tons of low-carb options and very affordable. Definitely recommend for smaller parties.

Google
Delicious food! And reasonable prices with large portions. It’s not a traditional restaurant atmosphere — more of a fish market vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating. Counter service, with food brought to your table. I got the large fish plate and my wife got the small. We also shared a calamari plate. We both were stuffed. Personally, I did not feel like the portion size for the calamari was large enough for the price, but the main courses we ordered more than made up for it. I highly recommend this spot for delicious seafood with a great selection at reasonable prices. If I were local, I’d definitely be back.

Google
I had the bear flag taco which was ok (plain), the yellowtail taco which was good, caterpillar roll which was good and Smokey bear cocktail which was good. I didn’t taste anything excellent, but staff are friendly. Prices are what you expect for seafood. Very popular place so crowded but surprisingly the wait in line is not too long and there’s usually a few tables open, even on Sat afternoon. There’s an outdoor patio area with umbrellas.

Yelp
Awesome seafood. Stepped out the movie theater and saw a bunch of people eating here. Figured must be good - and did not disappoint. Lots of great choices. Opted for clam chowder, ahi poke bowl, hurricane roll and of course hazy IPA. Found a seat by the bar- non stop people coming in. Food was delicious. Very chill place.

Yelp
This place is the bomb! There is usually always a line, but luckily a moose pretty fast. We love their Aji, pokey, and their salmon pokey is really good as well. I also usually get a side of veggies, which is a decent amount for the price you pay. The fish tacos are also fresh. Everything we've had has been pretty good. I feel like the rolls, though are a little pricey for the amount you get. It's her go to pokey place when we're in that direction. SYOY!

Yelp
Located at the Lido Maria Village in Newport Beach. If you're in the mood for some seafood or even some sushi, come check this place out! They have many choices of drinks to choose from as well including Arizona, Gatorade, beers and wines! I Came here on a Saturday after enjoying the beach nearby. It wasn't super packed and was able to order my food rite away. There is plenty of seating and tables inside. There are some bar seats. Also many tables and outdoor seating available to enjoy the nice evening weather. I ordered the specialty burrito with Ahi poke as the choice of meat. The burrito took less than 10 minutes to be prepared and served. Very fat, very wet and very flavorful! Such a refreshing entree. Cost was 14 and some change but very well worth it. I didn't see any needs of improvements, that is why I'm giving them 5 stars

Yelp
Hit Bear Flag Fish Co. in Newport Beach (PVH) around 11:30 AM on a sunny Saturday, perfect timing. By the time we left at 1:30 PM, the line was out the door and wrapping around the building. The Food: Had a couple of beers, the famous Bear Flag taco and a Bear Flag sushi roll. Pro tip: If you order the roll from the counter, it's pre-made rather than rolled fresh when you sit in the bar. That said my pre-made still hit the spot. The Vibe & Parking: The atmosphere is great. I love the mounted fish and the laid-back ocean vibe. However, non-valet parking on a busy Saturday is a total circus. If you're like me and hate paying for $$ parking, get there early or bring plenty of patience.

Yelp
I've heard about this place for the longest time and got to try it out! I got the Togo Poke Bowl: White Rice, 1/4 lb Salmon, Crunchy Chili Garlic, Furikake, Green Onion, Kale, Seaweed Salad, and Tommy Sauce. Fresh, flavorful, and exactly what I needed to satisfy my raw fish cravings. Wish there were more options for me to add to the bowl since they're missing some of my key toppings! Avoid going during lunch time or the wait might back you up! It gets busy!

Yelp
Fast casual dining with indoor, outdoor seating. Special board hadn't been updated, so learned that they were out of some of the items only after it was our time to order. Young gentleman taking orders seemed completely disinterested and didn't bother telling us the fish could be prepared different ways. The food, itself was just okay, including the lifeless bread served with the clam chowder. Ceviche was great and all the branding implies this is wild caught, but employee told us it was farm raised, so don't really know what to think/believe at this point.

Yelp
Visited Bear Flag Fish in Newport for the first time, and the hype is real. I ordered the ahi poke bowl with 1/4 lb of ahi tuna, which was the perfect portion. Service was quick for the poke bowl, though the fish burrito took a bit longer. Overall, a great experience--highly recommend the poke bowl.

Yelp
I always get excited when I see a Bear Flag Fish around! This location is packed so be prepared to wait in a line or go far to search for seating but the food is so worth it. I will say, parking at lido marina can be a bit tricky as there's a couple parking areas but there is an outdoor parking lot that is across the street from bear flag that I always go to for free parking. I love the ahi poke and the fish burrito the most, but I've tried some other dishes in the past and I love that it's just consistent, clean, high quality seafood that I can definitely fit in when I'm trying to eat healthy. They taste the same from the Crystal cove and Huntington beach locations. Also don't miss out on their sauces (I didn't know about them for the longest time and FINALLY saw them in the back near the to go area).

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise to find this local gem nestled right in the middle of the Newport Beach shopping area. It's a walk up to order and they bring you your food kind of place. Imagine your "seafood restaurant at a pier" experience but classy and clean, staff are full of smiles, patrons are nicer than heck, all their amenities from to go boxes and iron clad water jug full of ice water at a self serve stand is fancy quality. As some would say, "You FANCY!" This place feels like it's full of Christmas spirit all year long as I came on Christmas eve eve (day before Christmas eve). I came here at 5pm and it was bustling with laughter and side chatter from tables filled with families with kids and grandparents and everything in between. The place then picked up even more around 5:30-5:45pm and on as the line was backed up to the door constantly from that point forward. Then the food was so freaking fresh and delicious! My mom, dad, and I were extremely happy with the medley of samplings we mixed and matched to make our family style meal. It was nice that it was $3 Taco Tuesday for their most popular fish taco. Sooooooooooo good!!! It had lightly panko crusted crust on their white fish sprinkled with very finely thinly sliced cabbage slaw that you get to top with their fresh made salsa. (NOM! NOM! NOM!) Catch of the Day I also tried their featured: Bluefin Fish Burrito that came with the biggest slice of avocado inside. I couldn't believe how enormous the size of the burrito was. It was the brick size burritos I'm used to seeing at Chipotle. Massive! Then our favorite apps we decided to munch on was their freshly made pokes. So I bought the following to much on as apps before our tacos and burritos came. 1/2 LB Tuna Poke (NOM!) 1LB Salmon Poke (NOM! NOM!) 1/2 LB Seaweed Salad (NOM! NOM!) It was great that it was complimentarily paired with their homemade tortilla chips. They even sell it in the restaurant that is professionally bagged and displayed nicely for purchase. The experience was exquisite! The best part was that the price was very reasonable for the fresh quality food! Highly recommend for all to try!

Yelp
I hate to not give bearflag a 5 star review but my last two visits have been a little disappointing compared to their standard service. I did come over Labor Day weekend so it was extra busy, which is understandable. But after standing in like for over 40 minutes, our food then took a significant amount of time to come out and when it did, my plate was cold since they were probably waiting to complete the whole order. Despite the temp, the shrimp was really well cooked and had great flavor. The visit prior to that, I met some girlfriends for dinner and our friend that ordered poke was forgotten about. Even after reminding a server, her food came out over 30 minutes after everyone else at the table. And she had poke so it was not that it was awaiting to be cooked, just forgotten. I did enjoy my clam chowder and side salad thoroughly. They are feasibly priced for such fresh seafood.

Yelp
Long lines but good food. Tuna poke is 10/10!! TBH I would only go for the poke but the other food is not bad just not as good as their poke. FYI- when you order wild salmon on the plates that's not poke it's like a grilled salmon
google avatar

Haniyyah B.

Yelp
Love Bear Flag! I've been coming here for years and they seriously have the best poke -- so fresh, it reminds me of Hawaii. I usually get either the poke and chips or a poke bowl, and this time I went with half tuna and half salmon. Highly recommend! It can get pretty busy and there's sometimes a line, but it moves fast. Seating can be tricky during rush hours since it's always packed, but the food is totally worth it. Plus, there's a parking lot, so parking is super easy!
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
Came around 7pm and they were out of salmon for poke, very sad. + Make own bowl ($14): quarter pound ahi tuna, w cucumber, pickled carrot, ginger, cucumber, sprouts and spicy mayo side. Pretty bare bone poke bowl, was okay (7/10)
google avatar

Yelp
Sometimes you just have a craving for Bear Flag Fish Co and will even go right at opening because it's worth it. With the beautiful weather on a November day, grabbing some Salmon Poke, a glass of wine and a fish taco was the perfect way to spend lunch in Newport. The patio vibe is perfection and the inside of the restaurant quickly had a line. You order from the menu inside the restaurant and then choose a seat either inside or on the patio. The workers here are friendly and they are quick to serve as well.
google avatar

Andrew K.

Yelp
There's a line for a reason. Always skeptical when something has such a hype and ultimately it is hard to find seating, but the fish is worth it. There's an interesting dichotomy between regular and "premium" fish that I don't totally understand in terms of ordering but there are plenty of regular options I don't think you need to necessarily go for premium. Tuna poke: we got this to go. Chips were delicious. The poke itself was pretty good. A little pricey and probably wouldn't get again. The grouper fish sandwich was delicious. Huge portion of fish, well seasoned, bread crispy. Fish tacos: Seabass was far superior than the bluefine tuna ("premium") and was a great taco. The line does take a few minutes, as does getting your food. But it's worth the wait. Parking seems intimidating but ends up being not so bad once you realize there's a lot.
google avatar

Sammy B.

Yelp
I loved our experience at Bear Flag! Their variety of fresh fish is amazing and has something for everyone. We opted for ahi poke with chips, grilled mahi taco, Bear Flag fried fish taco, and the La Bamba roll. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious. I will definitely be back to try more poke and a fish plate! The service here was great, everyone was so friendly. There was a super long line but the crew was working fast and efficiently to make everyone happy!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for dinner recently. I've actually had this place bookmarked for years and finally got to try it. I wanted to get the salmon poke - but they did not have it. So we went with the tuna poke and it was delicious. Super fresh tuna and tasted just as good as Hawaii. The place is quite popular as there was a line out the door but it moves quick. Plenty of seating inside and outside the restaurant for people watching and enjoy the nice SoCal weather.
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
The service was awful! We had a party of 11 so I asked if someone could put tables together for me. They told me NO. They don't help with tables. Even though there was a man sitting behind the counter doing absolutely nothing. The food was just ok, not good enough to return.
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
Haven't been to Bear Flag in 10 years and the food still holds up. Came here on a weekend afternoon so the line was out the door but it moved pretty quickly. They had a lot of outdoor seating so we weren't too concerned about not getting a spot. We ordered the following: Bear Flag Tacos | Panko-crusted white fish | $11.50 for 2 - Their tacos are a pretty solid order. You can upgrade to other types of fish for a charge but the white fish is simple but good. It's not too fishy tasting too so a potential option for people who are not very into seafood. Small Seafood Plate | 1/3 pound of choice of fish & 2 sides | $14.95 - Got the Atlantic Salmon with a side of mixed veggies and brown rice. The salmon was cooked perfectly and they gave a side of their special sauce, which was very tasty. The mixed veggies surprised me a bit because these are usually bland whenever you get them as a side, but the mixed veggies here were very flavorful and had a good assortment. All in all, I was very happy with the food. The service can be tricky given how busy they are, but for the price and quality of the food, I can't complain. Also, the staff we interacted with were pretty kind and helpful. I think the people who were having trouble with service quality might've gone on really busy days.
google avatar

Kate A.

Yelp
Probably our favorite casual spot we have been to traveling ever. I still dream about this poke bowl and it's been months. The tuna poke and white fish burrito are the best. Marg was too cucumbery for me.
google avatar

Diane K.

Yelp
On Sunday, July 20th, I went to Newport Beach and got lunch to-go from Bear Flag Fish. There were a lot of people and a long line -- it seemed like a popular local spot. We ordered a shrimp skewer, a sandwich, and salmon to-go. The shrimp skewer wasn't cut, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't cut it properly, which made it really difficult to eat. In the end, I had no choice but to bite into it directly, and afterwards, I ended up getting a blister on my lip. Their chips and tuna tartare seemed to be popular items, and they were actually delicious.
google avatar

Wendy C.

Yelp
Been wanting to try Bear Flag for some time now. So glad I was able to the other day, it did not disappoint! SO fresh and delicious. Half and half build your own bowl was great. Light and refreshing on a nice sunny day. Great seating outside aswell. Perfect location and pretty quick service. Very impressed I understand the hype!!!
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
Good spot to get your poke fix. The line was out the door, it took about 15 minutes after placing my order. The place was pretty packed, but they have lots of seating outside. Ordered the Bear Flag Burrito. It was light and could have used more sauce and seasoning, honestly prefer chipotle but overall a decent burrito. Got half pound of salmon poke for about $12 - they also see 1/4 for about $6. Large cuts of fish! The sauce was very simple, personally prefer a spicy mayo but I really loved the quality and would definitely come back and order this again. I liked how they gave chips too!
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
First time trying Bear Flag after hearing so many good things from friends and seeing it all over social media -- and it definitely lived up to the hype! The place has a cool setup where you can see all the different kinds of fresh fish and poke they offer. The staff was super friendly and helpful while I was ordering. I went with a poke bowl -- half salmon, half tuna -- and it was so damn good. The pickled carrots were my favorite side, hands down. Honestly, it's the best poke I've had in the OC, and it even comes close to the one I had in Hawaii... and that's saying a lot! I highly recommend!
google avatar

Kate S.

Yelp
Super solid and fresh food options. Very crowded place with long lines on the weekend. Reasonable prices (for the area) and pretty hefty portions. You order at the front and there are many options behind the "deli counter" kind of like a fish market vibe. If I lived closer to Newport, I'd totally get fish here to cook at home. Food is then delivered to your table. There's indoor seating and then an outdoor patio with umbrellas. We got the tuna poke bowl and the fish burrito. The tuna is sold by the pound. Definitely not the most authentic poke I've had but it was super fresh and the furikake brought it all together. The cucumber spirals were also such a nice, crunchy textural contrast to the vinegary rice. The wasabi salsa was super unique and added some much needed spice to the dish. The burrito could've had a better char on the outside but, hey, it's on the inside what really counts, am I right. The proportion of rice, beans, veggies and fish was perfect. Made for such a solid bite. Would've preferred a like to a lemon but not too much to complain about.
google avatar

Jeiny R.

Yelp
I've had this place bookmarked for a while now so I'm glad I finally tried it. We got 1/2lb of both salmon and ahi tuna poke. Both were fresh and delicious but I preferred the tuna poke. Tortilla chips are already included with poke orders but we decided to also get a side of white rice. The rice added flavor and texture to the chip with poke. Also, our first impression after seeing the container portion was to doubt whether it would be filling but it definitely was! There was a long line we got there but it moved quickly and we received our order even quicker. The dine in ambience also looks amazing. We decided to place our order to go but will be back for dine in.
google avatar

Amanda L.

Yelp
Parking was pretty easy here and there's a lot around the location. The line is long and it takes a bit to get to the cashier and it is self seating. We ordered a poke bowl, clam chowder and ceviche- all of which was delicious. The ceviche was probably my favorite, honestly. The bread bowl was disappointing to whom I had gone witb but overall the soup was good. Would I come here again? Probably.
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
Not much to say other than fresh and flavorful fish! The poke is pretty close to Hawaiian poke. Great location. Guac and sauces are excellent as well.
google avatar

Cynthia P.

Yelp
i got a custom poke bowl with half brown rice half greens with 1/4 lb ahi tuna as my protein. for my toppings i chose, cucumber, chili crunch, micro greens, pickled ginger, pickled carrot, green onions and added avocado for $1 as my toppings. the sauce on top was tommy's. my bowl came out to $16.70 which was expected as it is in newport. i was satisfied with my bowl, it was light yet very filling at the same time, i really enjoyed the chili crunch and the tommy sauce was great. i'd say there are better spots for poke with better prices for bigger portions but i still really enjoyed this place.
google avatar

Yelp
I am so confused by the amount of hype this place has. There is simply a lack of salt in all of our dishes. So very bland! We came at open, so we were one of the first ones there. It took about 20-30 minutes to get us poke, two tacos, and a guppy plate. There is minimal inside seating and more seating outside. Thank goodness I only got a quarter pound of the ahi poke and salmon poke to try. BTW it comes with a bag of chips each. I was so disappointed by this, as this was the one I was looking forward to the most. The only thing that was salted was the chips. The fish itself was fine? But the seasoning was nonexistent. The two fish tacos that we got were so bland as well. I mean sure, add more of their many sauces to add flavor. But why do we have to do that to enjoy the tacos? Lastly, the guppy plate. Hey, the vegetables were really seasoned, but the fish was super bland (which is fine in this case for a kids plate)! To preface: at the time of eating it fresh my toddler was already fussy. So even eating this he had some sort of VISCERAL reaction to the fish. I didn't think much of it, so I boxed it up to eat at home. Upon reheating it again, he had the SAME reaction. Wondering why, I tried his section of the fish and WOW it was SO SPICY. Like... REALLY SPICY, but only a small section of the fish. I had my husband double check this to make sure and he agreed. Yeah so, no thanks. I have had so much better poke elsewhere.

Yelp
First date with my wife was here :') we like to come back for anniversaries and special occasions. The things we really like: salmon burrito, salmon salad, fried calamari, poke burrito, some type of salmon roll (it was really fresh, maybe had lemon on it?). Recently we said next time we would split a burrito instead of getting 2, and then we'd get a roll or 2 and a side, like the fried calamari. I think we liked the salmon burrito more than the poke one. This place is always so busy and crowded but it's fun. I feel like I always see someone famous or semi-famous here too.
google avatar

Mary K.

Yelp
This place is so good I loved how fresh it was. The line is long but it moves fast. It does get crowded so finding a seat may be hard but people are constantly coming and going so it shouldn't take too long. Cute place!
google avatar

Diane M.

Yelp
The poke and tacos here are great! I really liked their panko crusted fish taco, and the salmon and ahi poke was also good, just very spicy! Service is relatively quick despite at times a long line. Nice seating area outside and free parking.
google avatar

Shiny C.

Yelp
Got a 1/2 lb of tuna and 1/2 lb of salmon poke after a day of walking around Lido Marina Village and it was such a great meal. The poke comes with chips and the crunchiness pairs with the fresh fish so well. The poke is so flavorful and I could probably finish one pound by myself if I wanted to. The area where this restaurant is located is so nice and the vibes are so much better when the weather is warm and sunny.
google avatar

Helen N.

Yelp
The poke at Bear Flag was honestly pretty good! However for the price, I feel that I can get just as great of poke at another place! Granted, Bear Flag is at a nicer area which is understandable! I would still come back! Bear Flag has always been busy every time I've gone but service is quick and easy! I really like the shop is open and bright!
google avatar

Sepideh S.

Yelp
I am in love with Bear flag's food, always fresh and delicious. Ive been going to both locations for years and the food doesn't disappoint! I love their salmon bear flag burritos, and I substitute cucumbers for beans. Their ceviche and ahi tuna is a great choice for take out! This time we took our dog and sat in the patio which is very nice and dog friendly, although the restaurant (inside) only allows service dogs.

Yelp
Tied for best sushi I've ever had with spots in Hawaii. Order at a counter and receive a number and food is brought to you. Lots of outdoor seating with a food-hall vibe and seating indoors. Sushi is phenomenal- fresh and flavorful. Always a favorite when visiting

The sea bass burrito cooked in lemon butter is beyond delicious. I recommend eating a burrito in the restaurant since they cut it in half and give you a lemon slice too! The Clooney margarita hit the spot and is pretty ideal when the wait time can be a bit long!

Yelp
Poke is fresh and delicious! I've been here a few times and every single poke session is refreshin! Always hits the spot! And I can guarantee you everything else is top tier over here. From grilled to fried menu items, everything is a hit here. When my wife and I decide to go out for the day it's usually somewhere by the beach or coast. Located in a small village (plaza-esq), with fishing gear stores to hobby and decor shops. Lays this gem of a location, Bear Flag fish. Just a few minutes walk from the harbor you can get some of the freshest seafood in town. Oh and parking is free! Always packed, and always fresh ingredients. We opt for the poke bowls all the time. My order always consists of getting the half pound poke mix of tuna and salmon on white rice with a choice of 4 toppings (12 options total). My go to is seaweed salad, picked ginger, green onion and last cucumber all with extra Tommy sauce. All in all great stuff. I'll keep it genuine doesn't compare to what you get in Hawaii but still super fresh and delicious. You got sriracha and soy sauce on the side. Plus many other condiments for whatever you order. Also food comes quick, depending on line and how packed the location is. So if you're ever looking for that bomb poke spot or just some grilled fish tacos, this is it. Located in a beautiful area, super safe and convenient to explore. This is the right place to go for all your seafood desires!

Yelp
usually never go for poke but since my friends and i were having a beach day, it was super fitting! we came right at the peak of lunchtime so the line extended through the door, but so worth for quality fish. for it being a small plate, the portion was incredibly generous and filling! the ahi tasted fresh, tender and almost buttery it paired nicely with the rice, though i wasn't the biggest fan of the default tangy, sushi-style base as you'd get with other places too -- i def prefer just plain rice instead. the mixed veggies were also well seasoned and complemented the ahi!

Yelp
Food here is always great and fresh. Its also convenient that they have a free parking lot whereas everywhere else in the area is paid parking. We went on a sunday and waited in line for about 15 min and it was kind of hard to find a seat for two. The seats we did find were not super clean so would appreciate a bit more cleanliness and attention to detail. However food came out in a timely manner and food was great. Def decommend the ceviche.

Yelp
We had a great experience at the other location, so I was excited to come here. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. While the portions of my kids guppy plates was good, the food was so bland, and the tortilla so soggy, they didn't like it (they loved it at the other location). My husband and I did not like our fish tacos, the fish was supposed to be seared but it was so overcooked. And my clam chowder was not tasty, and it was not hot. I'm giving it 3 stars because the location was clean and good vibes, but food also took way too long to come out... I'd like to give it another try for the poke or sushi though. We'll see!

Yelp
Oh my god!! The ceviche with nachos are amazing and tuna poke. Next best to Hawaii. OMG!! Go on Taco Tuesday for amazaaaaaaing fish tacos. Service, it's busy but they're definitely professionals and are friendly. Niiiice ambiance, perfect for any vibe really. I saw first dates there, families, and regulars. I'm going back here every. single. time. I go to Newport Beach again.

Yelp
The ahi tuna was delicious and I would come back solely for that. The bowl I ordered was good, but I didn't love the salmon. I'm not sure if it lacked flavor or if the ahi tuna was just so much better but next time I will get all tuna. I also enjoyed the chili garlic flakes and I recommend for anyone who gets a poke bowl. My fiancée ordered the La bamba roll, which was solid but nothing special. It is on the expensive side ($58 total for about 4 items) but definitely high quality, delicious fresh fish

Yelp
Bear Flag is one of my go-to spots. We love the Ahi poke. We always get a poke bowl (1/2 lb ahi), 1/2 lb ahi poke, and a 12 oz clam chowder. Poke bowl - they use the same ahi as when you buy it a la carts. Decent portion size, fresh toppings. We like 1/2 rice, 1/2 greens. Ahi poke - good flavor, not fishy, comes with chips 12 oz clam chowder - consistent, hot bowl of soup, good flavor.

Yelp
When we arrived, there was quite a long line to place your order. I ordered that yellowfin tuna tacos. after you place your order they bring the food out to you. We sat outside and watched the sunset. The fish tacos were delicious. Definitely would come here again.

Yelp
Simple, fresh, efficient, and fast. That describes everything at Bear Flag Fish. Great restaurant to go to for a leisurely day around Lido Village.
