With bright colors, a calm breeze flowing through open windows and citrus wafting in the air, the space is a fresh twist on ’classic-modern-retro’. Oh, and did we mention their oyster menu is awesome and their cocktails are crazy delicious? It’s true. So stop what you’re doing and grab a seat at the bar, order up a half-dozen oysters and an exotic concoction, and strike up a friendly conversation with their staff and neighborhood patrons. It’s like a piña colada, and is another great option on a summer day when the sun is trying to nudge you in the direction of a refreshing alcoholic beverage. "Bearded Lady has a lot going for it, and if you live in Prospect Heights, it should be your go-to day-drinking spot. In the summer, they put a few tables outside where you can sit and drink a (very good) house cocktail, and if it’s raining you can stay inside and play pool. There’s only one pool table, but that’s more than most bars. Overall, this place feels like a vaguely retro cocktail lounge, although it’s extremely casual. "The cocktails at Bearded Lady are also tiki-inspired, and they’re as good as they come. If you’ve never had a Painkiller before, order one here. It’s like a pina colada, but for people who aren’t on a beach in Florida in 1975. This is a nice little neighborhood bar in Prospect Heights, and it doesn’t get too crazy on weekends. "Bearded Lady is the best of both worlds. It’s nicer than your average bar, but they also have a pool table. They also make good cocktails (but also serve cheap domestic beer). So you can either sit at a table and have a nice cocktail while you talk about how the latest “Shouts and Murmurs” was really funny (but not, like, laugh-out-loud funny), or you can loiter around the pool table like you’re in some hipster remake of The Hustler.
