Beast & Butterflies

We visited Beats and Butterflies on December 29, 2024, with a reservation at 8:30 PM. Due to the busy New York City traffic, we were almost an hour late, but the staff was incredibly accommodating and managed to find us a spot, even though the restaurant was fully packed. The food and cocktails were absolutely amazing, and the vibe was fantastic. The highlight was the breathtaking view of Times Square – truly one of the best in the city. It was a memorable experience, and we can't wait to return! Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for great food, drinks, and an unbeatable ambiance.

It’s incredibly popular to those who wish to catch a view of NYC while having a glass of wine or drink at a bar counter. You would probably have seen this as a recommended destination but was quite disappointed with the availability of spaces at the outdoor area. There are two main crowds here - those for the views only and M Social hotel guests. Bookings in advance highly recommended but you will not be guaranteed an outdoor seat anyways. Members of public can simply access the terrace and occupy the seats anyways. Not that much of a breathtaking view to be honest but worth spending some time if you have that seat facing times square and a drink or two in your hand!

From the food to the service 5 stars all around! Great views outside. The prices are a little high but the food is amazing. The sliders were delicious and the burger was as well. It was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The mac and cheese was so delicious. The portion sizes were just right. The beer on draft had a good selection with a couple of local beer options in there. Definitely a must try place if you are in the area looking for a refreshement , finger food or a nice dinner.

I have to make an unfortunate review. I came to this bar as it is highly rated and one of the best rooftop bars, as reviews say. The atmosphere is great, but it ended there shortly for me. Upon arrival, there was poor signage for the bar besides to walk up to the bar it's self. We wanted a table and to the right of the bar, further, there was a small sign to be seated. I honestly didn't see it at first and stood around awkwardly, not knowing where to place myself. I'm sure if you had a large party that it would make for confusion. The host didn't pop for for about 5 minutes. So I didn't even know if there was a host and almost sat myself. At the table, we were greeted with waters and asked immediately if we wanted drinks. We asked our server about our food allergy regarding peanuts. The server, with a thick accent, immediately wiped his smile off and made it feel like it was a nuisance. Then, he proceeded to go to the next table over with the most orchestrated personality and smile I have seen. Honestly, despicable behavior. We ask specifically "does your kitchen use any peanuts, peanut oils or sauces." He replies with "we can accommodate your allergy, let me know what you want." We try to explain that we need to know if there are peanuts in the kitchen in general. The allergy is severe, and we don't risk cross contact SURFACE contamination. So he goes to the kitchen and comes back 10 minutes later saying "You can only eat these two." We still don't know if the kitchen handles peanuts, peanut oils, or sauces. It is rare for a server to not understand the information we need, but at this point, it's confusing and without wanting to be rude, despite the server being rude, we decide to leave. Upon seeing us leave the server was the most passive-aggressive yet. I'm glad we didn't risk our health here.

Came here just to have drinks with my wife after watching a Broadway play. The views are great they have a huge outside terrace. It was raining but we still went outside to take some great pictures after we enjoyed our drinks. They make them nice and strong. We also could resist getting the duck fat fries. They were delicious. It was a little hard to find because it's inside of a hotel. But everyone we encountered was helpful and friendly.

Great views of Times Square from this place! The outside balcony must be buzzing in the summer months! Inside has a cool bar along with restaurant and working / relaxing areas too. Would be a great hotel to stay in!

A fantastic spot with incredible views, just steps from Times Square. The atmosphere is lively, especially with the DJ, and the food and service are excellent. The location makes it the perfect place to enjoy a great time in the city.

Highly recommend for great views of Times Square from a rooftop perspective. 🦋Staff were all welcoming 🦋 entrance is small, takes you straight to elevator and then from there you go to the lobby which you can stay inside and/or outside 🦋 great lounge areas. 🦋 there’s a service section and non service section-loved that 🦋 many options for food & drinks 🦋Great open space, definitely make your way here, even if it’s just for drinks & views

We went here for dinner before a broadway show and the food was great! I got the rigatoni pomodoro and it was the perfect portion size. Our waiter was extremely nice and recommended the ghostbusters themed drink (best drink on the menu according to him). It tasted very fruity and lots of coconut. Comes out in a large glass and mine was strong. We also got chips, salsa, and guac to split. While the salsa didn't stand out, the guacamole did. It was hard to find the restaurant on the street. You enter into the hotel and take the elevator up. Through the hotel area, there's the bar and you go to the left. We had to stop and ask a couple times where to go. It is beautiful inside and even more so at night. You have a great view of Times Square and the outdoor roof space is a prime photo op

Nice place for a family pre-show bite. Bar, drinks, edible shareable apps. Nice view a few floors up looking down broadway.

I came here because of a youtube video and I would say I'm so glad and impressed I went here. I even got a cocktail. The views of times square from here is so beautiful. It's in a hotel building and you go upstairs and that's pretty much it. I enjoyed my time here at this rooftop bar. Because it was definitely a must see.

I just had an amazing espresso martini with a wonderful view! Beasts and butterflies is the perfect place for your New York City trip. They have great drinks, awesome bartenders, and the best part is the views on the rooftop of Times Square. I definitely recommend this place for your next trip to NYC.

Loved this place and the views! We heard this was a low key place for some awesome NYC views while having some food and cocktails! We came at night and brought our kids. We loved the atmosphere and this was a total NYC vibe. Definitely a must stop if you are in NYC! Food was good a little pricey but the views make up for it.

The location and the view you get from being here don't match the quality of food I was expecting. The pasta I ordered was missing some sauce, it felt too dry and it wasn't cooked properly, I don't know if it was because it was microwaved or something else but some parts of the plate were coldish and the pasta didn't feel right. However, big shootout to the waiter, he offered great service.

Came in when traveling to NY in search of a rooftop bar. This did not disappoint, we did not get food. The service was good and quick.

We stopped in for cocktails and snackies before a show. Definitely get an outside table along the railing if you can for a good breeze and great view!

Great spot to grab a drink and check out the view. The menu is limited so don't expect surf and turf. But whatever had was tasty and fresh. The service was a little slow, but there appeared to only be one server. I don't hold that against them. I highly recommend their drink specials.

A friend of mine was staying at the M Social hotel towards the end of last month so we decided to visit the bar/restaurant/lounge on one of the lower floors. We sat at the bar and the bartenders came to us right away and were very attentive the whole time we were there. I was participating in Dry January so I had a hot tea but I stole a sip of my friends cocktail and it was quite good! Would be nice if there were a few mocktails advertised on the menu, I assume I could have asked the bartenders for an alcohol free drink but I was ok with my tea. The bar is chic and has a gorgeous view of the Times Square area. It's definitely worth checking out the restaurant and terrace if that's something that would interest you. There seemed to be a lot of groups seated celebrating special occasions.

We went to this NYC restaurant bar for my nieces birthday. The view of Times Square was amazing. It was nice to go out and overlook the area. It was a cool night. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The food was really good and the appetizers tasty. Half our bills was alcohol lol I'll definitely be back

Beautiful rooftop bar let me start off by saying. Great views of Time Square from here. We sat outside then I went inside to the bar for a drink. I ordered 1 beer and a Manhattan for my wife. The bartender was kinda rude and seemed to be in a rush. The beer was put in a plastic cup not glass and the Manhattan also because he poured to much into a small glass. Then I had to pour the drink into a cup outside ‍. I get my bill and it was 35 dollars for two drinks!! I did not expect gratuity to be added by the bartender for 2 drinks but it was and I didn't see that so I added more tip. When I saw my receipt later I was pissed. Gratuity is optional for good service. Pissed me off he added it and 20 percent I will say he added. Guy next to me ordering drinks had the same issue and complained about it. Im not one to make a scene. I just finished my drink and left. Would probably have ordered more drinks here if not for that but live and learn. Would not come back here if in NYC again.

The ambiance and service are both impeccable. The view on their roof top deck is worth it alone, after all - who wouldn't love to have snacks and drinks overlooking Times Square. The food is also wonderful, so reserve your spot today!

Great view even better drinks and food. The service here though not so great takes a while to order or to get your food. Over all just visit the bar and have your drinks in the terrace.

Great view of Times Square from the terrace. Definitely recommend eating on the terrace. The food was ok but could be better at those prices. The salmon (dinner) was way too salty. A small bottle of water was $9. Also tried the $32 breakfast buffet. Not a lot of options for non-pork meat other than sliced Turkey. Not much variety in food or drinks. Service was fine.

Horrible service. Made a reservation and no one seemed to care. And the entrance of the location isn't clear. Phone number given wasn't accurate. Never got served at our table after 10 minutes of waiting so we left.

This was one of the bars my wife and I tried out while visiting New York City. Awesome views and tasty drinks! What more could you ask for?! :) I ordered the Theater District Manhattan. Truly enjoyable classic cocktail, although it could have been stiffer. My wife ordered the Uptown Girl. She loved it so much that she is going to attempt to replicate it with her own variation! We also ordered a side of fries to snack on - it came with ketchup and mayonnaise. Mayonnaise with french fries is not a common combination in the South, however, I tried it and it wasn't bad at all! But I still prefer ketchup. Haha Stop by this place and check it out...even if just for some drinks!

Excellent, attentive service. Fantastic view overlooking Times Square. We went on a Friday night, pre-Broadway show. Had a reservation and were seated right away at a table with a gorgeous view. There were lots of people outside too. Food was okay, nothing special. Drinks were good. Had the Who-you-gonna-call, which was not strong enough but ok. Loved the vibe of there place- music, view, friendly wait staff. Highly recommend.

Food was basically microwaved. Not great quality at all for the price we paid. The servers were very rude and seemed bothered every time they came to refill our waters, or even when we asked for napkins. They kept taking food and items away from our tables when we weren't done with them and then got annoyed when we asked for them back. My brother in law was paying for our meal and because of our experience, didn't think that it warranted a tip. We normally don't want to do this to service workers, but our experience was just so bad. The waiter came up to our table, opened the check, slammed his hand on it and demanded to know why he wasn't getting tipped. My brother in law was shocked and told him that we just didn't appreciate the service considering it was a $90 meal. The server continued to demand a tip, and to get him to leave because he was making us uncomfortable I left $10.

This is a great venue to get away from the fray of mid-town but WOW... the bartender wouldn't give me the time of day.... Not a hello, no eye contact... NOTHING. It was a weekday afternoon and not that busy. The food looked good and the cocktails were great. But if service is what you need, don't bother. The patio seating was great but they let these young kids come up and they smoked pot the whole time to stink the place up!! This place has huge potential. Please pay attention to your business and customers and more will come. Try it out once and see for yourself! Bon appetit

View here was kind of cool, and the server was nice but the food was pretty bad. I'm the kind of person who can kind of eat anything and I couldn't eat the spinach and artichoke dip. It was really cold and the pita bread paired with it could have been better. Sliders were okay, but only came with two. Super overpriced, and that's coming from someone from Los Angeles. Wouldn't come here again, or recommend.

Have been coming to this spot for a few years as the location is amazing. Great spot to go for pre dinner or pre theatre drinks. The bartenders have been there for 20+ years (two of them) and Chris (9 years) so it's nice to see their friendly faces. Since new ownership has come in, prices did go up but we still love the vibe here. Bringing a party of 16 people here next month. Fingers crossed they can manage our large party.

Great view great place for the ball to drop on new years eve..but abdula service was okay until it was time to leave regarding his tip Abdula proceed to talk loudly saying our total is $200 why leave a dollar tip but he didn't look at the receipt clearly to see the amount more for 1 dollar tip that he claims..so I reduced it and told him next time even though you don't agreed with the tip amount you still shouldn't make a scene about it because ur mistakes cause you less tip but yes will definitely be back..the food was good I had the mac cheese with lobster among other things so until next time butterflies

The food was Delicious and tasteful..Great place to visit ..A Must ..... THE service was outstanding a d the view was spectacular... great place well hidden off the street next.to Neil simon theater..price was reasonable....nice ambience.....quiet and well lit...A Must will return...Crab Cakes was delicious... also Lobster Rolls

We had a great time here getting drinks and snacks! My husband had the Coney Island chicken bites and I had the garlic knots. Both were super yummy and the beers were great too. Top that with awesome views and a lovely waiter and it makes for a great evening!

just went with some friends to do pickleball which had an amazing view! the staff was super nice and accommodating! We even order some drinks and food which were really good as well. would reccomend

Show up, sit wherever you like, gaze out the window, watch the hustle and bustle of Times Square, and order cocktails until your heart is content! This place is a hidden gem in the city and I love it. I'm a huge fan of the lobster roll, crab cake, and the cocktails. The mixologist on duty definitely understood the assignment :) and our server was attentive and pleasant.

So we made a reservation far in advance because we wanted to have the rooftop view. We show up for our reservation and the staff is very confused and just continues to ask us over and over again "You have a reservation???" We we're asking is there a problem - and the hostess is stating "Let me just go get the manager" and doesn't explain anything to us. They were acting like they couldn't seat us, and we were just super confused because we had made a reservation... Finally we get seated, and ask the waiter what the problem was and he tells us "The entire rooftop was bought out for a private event, so all reservations were cancelled. And the only part of the restaurant that is open is for hotel guests only and has a limited menu. But since you had the reservation we are going to let you sit in this limited area with hotel guests." So it was good to finally understand what the problem was - neither the host nor manager explained that to us and was super rude to us. Well then after we ordered a drink, we were going to order food too (because food was on the limited menu.) And the staff was like "Oh you're getting food too? We assumed you would just get a drink since you understood that this area is for hotel guests only." (Also side note - there was barely anybody in this section. It's not like there was a line to get in.) Literally the worst experience and put our entire group in a funky mood for the rest of the day. Also they never called or texted to inform us that the reservation was cancelled. They claim that we got an email a few days prior - but who is checking their email every day while they're on vacation? Also if they had explained the situation to us before we got seated we would've probably left anyway if we knew the rooftop was closed. But they never explained the situation, we just thought they were refusing service for some unknown reason. SOOO rude!!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!

The waitstaff was rude from the minute we sat down. The pizza was good according to my daughter and cousin, but I ended up getting food poisoning from the Cesar Salad and had to go to the hospital. And the hotel didn't even offer an apology or anything as the EMTs wheeled me out. Overall experience was something to be lacking, the view was beautiful and it was convenient after a long day of touring NYC. But I will never be staying or eating at this establishment again, nor will I recommend it to anyone.

Great appetizers before a show, atmosphere is electric! Crab cake but the greatest, chicken was ok, opted for not tossing in the dressing. Charcuterie was good, almonds good...drinks good, service great.

Great place with amazing view over Times Square. Our waiter was friendly and my Mai Thai was wonderful. Highly recommend to sit outside on a nice evening.

The old fashioned is not the greatest. For some reason, they we're not serving food at the time when we got there. Skip the bar and go straight to the patio to enjoy the view.

Absolute garbage service. We were ignored for 10 minutes the entire time we sat at the bar as the two workers did nothing but talk about irrelevant things to each other. Wasn't even busy since it was 12:25 pm. Absolute garbage. Do better.

I came here to order a drink around 11pm. It was busy but apparently Chris and Kressy were too busy to take our orders. It looks like they had friends that came to the bar and favored their drink orders to their friends and didn't even charge them. They spoke a different language to where I couldn't understand but they obviously knew each other. I waited 15 minutes, waived my hand and was completely ignored. I ended up seeing one of the couple of friends in the rooftop and raved how they had free drinks and took a couple of pictures. I am completely unhappy with the ignored service I received for 15 minutes. It's not a big bar and it's a Sunday.Therefore this lack of acknowledgement will not get un noticed. I'm simply disappointing as everything was perfect when I checked into the hotel with my host Rita.

This lounge located in the lobby of a Times Square hotel is the bomb. The atmosphere is beautiful and spacious with lots of seating arrangements so you and your guests can relax and enjoy. I chose crab cakes and lobster rolls to snack on with my drink. The portions are sized like appetizers but the food is tasty and the drinks are superb. The mixologist is talented and can create something to suit your palate. Bring your bankroll though. This place is expensive! We were a party of three. 3 small crab cakes and 3.tiny lobster rolls.plus two drinks each and the bill was about $250.00.

Horrible service. They are short staffed but the manager walks around and doesn't even knowledgeable the customers are waiting forever for service.

We're staying at the hotel. We are enjoying the accommodations and the staff is very friendly. Wish I could say the same for the on premises bar. We sat for about 15 minutes and never saw a server. My husband had to go to the bar to order. Took a while to get acknowledged. After he offered we waited about 15 minutes to get our drinks. He had the NY Old Fashioned. It was like drinking straight up whiskey! If we wanted just whiskey we would if ordered it that way. I had the Queens Cherry Soda which was not nearly as strong as the old fashioned. Each drink is $18. Not worth it due to the wait and the way that one drink was made. So disappointing. I would not recommend. Too bad since the view is great.

Stayed in this Hotel, restaurant is in Lobby. View is great with Rooftop seating. Drinks are OVERPRICED not a lot of options. This is in the Lobby of M Space Hotel, we stayed for 3 nights.

Great restaurant for breakfast at the M social hotel in new york city. Staff very attentive and brunch was very good. Loads of choices.

Great food, drinks and atmosphere. The view from the terrace is to die for. I would highly recommend.
