The First Timer’s Guide To Eating In Chicago

"When the morning needs museum-visit strategizing and a solid sit-down meal, consider Beatrix in River North for a power breakfast. The massive and sunny dining room thrives on efficiency, as tourists and families fuel up with safe classics like the soft oven-baked brioche and non-sweet brunch options like the spicy green chili and chicken enchilada. Beatrix also has a large bakery and coffee stand in the center, so grab an apple vegan muffin or lavender honey latte to-go before finally checking out the Chicago Medieval Torture Museum. The 22 Best Breakfast Spots In Chicago

"Beatrix is an excellent spot for a power business meeting on your way to work. All of the River North, Fulton Market, and Streeterville locations are comfortable spaces with lighter options like oatmeal, plus more substantial breakfast dishes like shakshuka and pancakes. You can also stop at the coffee and pastry counter by yourself for something to go." - sam faye, adrian kane, john ringor, veda kilaru

Google
I wanted to love it, the coffee itself was decent, if you don’t get it with any syrups or flavors. The flavoring weren’t great. The pastry I got was hard and not edible. Still gave it 3 because I will probably be back, if in the airport I would choose his coffee over the other options there

Google
This is a self serve snack bar (near c10-20)with a register for you to scan and pay. It has a rather impressive selection of snacks for food allergies. There are options for gluten free, dairy free, and corn free. You can look at the pics to see some of the specific products which you are probably familiar with if you have allergies. I was impressed that they have Swoon tea!

Google
Disgusting sandwich. Filling was tasteless and the croissant was stale. $20 for a sandwich and chips and the sandwich was chicken salad, rang up as tuna, which is what I wanted. Nobody to assist. Horrible. Avoid at all costs. Charlotte airport terminal B gate 18. You guys should be ashamed…preying on people stuck at the airport with expensive poor quality food at a premium price is not a good experience. I guess having nobody there to assist or provide refunds is a business plan…. EDIT I found the person assigned to working at that location. She walked me over to her main store and gave me a refund for the bad food. They were polite and apologised for the inconvenience and offered to remake me a fresh sandwich. At least they made it right.

Bought an apple, got on my plane, nobody in middle seat. Great start to an easy flight. Pulled out my apple in a bag, took that first bite and it was brown throughout. A true Greek tragedy.

Google
If you're looking for something a bit healthier and tastier than the usual airport grub, this place is worth checking out. I was happy to find a fresh Caesar salad and salmon at 7:30 am – only in an airport, right?! The salad was genuinely good, and the salmon hit the spot. Plus, they play nice music and have space to actually sit and eat. The coffee wasn't my favorite, but hey, maybe it's just my taste. Just a couple of suggestions for the team: it would be super helpful to see the prices on the items in the coolers – made ordering a guessing game! My pictured meal was $26 - salad was $13, salmon was $8, coffee was almost $4 (plus tax). The service was okay, but a little more attentiveness would be nice. Overall though, I enjoyed having a fresh meal in a relaxed setting, and I'd probably swing by again on a future trip!

Google
I got a latte- it was exceptionally hot and was burning my hand as I went along- it mostly tasted like steamed milk- couldn’t taste the coffee at all, which was disappointing for a place that shows off their own brand of coffee! They had quite a few selections of prepackaged food, and the bakery owns did look very delicious- which would be the only reason I would return. That and they had a lot of Lilly’s chocolate item options (sugar free!) which are very good. Cool vibe and atmosphere, but the line is slow to move and their process is inefficient. If I’m looking for coffee and have the time while at the airport, I would seek out another options.

Google
The two employees at the front were not friendly. They didn’t give me my drink, and I ended up leaving without it and without a refund. When I asked the guy about my drink, he just said, “They’re making it,” without even asking what I had ordered. I think you should consider asking for customers’ names or giving out order numbers — that would help avoid mix-ups. I believe they gave my drink to someone else. The atmosphere was terrible!

Google
To preface: I am a BIG Beatrix fan and visit locations in Chicago whenever I’m there. And I have been a fan of the Charlotte location — so I was surprised to see so many negative reviews when I went to check hours this morning. Well, as if they are striving to live up to their negative reviews, the team of one this morning proved to be uninterested in helping visitors — two people in front of me left empty handed after not receiving help. I was looking for their gluten free pastries — the coffee cake like muffin is great — and all I was told is “no” when I asked if any were available. I recognize that the crowds in and out of restaurant food stalls may not always be kind or polite, unfortunately, but the energy within this stall this morning was low and uninviting — hopefully the team has a better day soon.

Yelp
matcha was fire, they offer oat milk and were friendly. The reason I give three stars is because you all need to beware of the muffins, it was the grossest muffin I ever tried to eat in my life, I feel like it tasted fake. No words, weird white grains & ugh - Never again. please do not get the muffins unless you want to waste your money & not eat, or do it and see for yourself. Maybe hopefully they will make better ones - * cross fingers

Yelp
This is one of the better coffee shop options in Charlotte's airport. I ordered the honey cinnamon latte (hot) and the bacon, egg, and cheddar panini. It was overpriced, but that's what you'd expect from an airport eatery. The sandwich hit the spot and the latte was quite nice. Service was prompt and friendly. The shop itself seemed clean, and they had many tantalizing pastry options as well.

Yelp
This market has become my go-to place before morning flights. The lines are pretty long but well worth it. I like it because I can make my coffee my way instead of ordering it. I like to add hot water to mine and here, I can do that. Of course, they had to give me the hot water, but I was still able to make it my way. They also have pre-made breakfast sandwiches, juices, breakfast bars, salads, and snacks. The lines are pretty long but well worth it and they move pretty fast. I like it because I can make my coffee my way instead of placing an order.

Yelp
Stopped by for something to drink. I decided on the Malted Freddo, and it's delicious! It has espresso, malt powder, white or dark chocolate, and your choice of milk. I went with white chocolate and whole milk. 5 stars. Everything looked clean. There's interesting choices to drink. Most of the pastries were gone at 6pm, but that's not surprising. Service was friendly. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Ordered some ready made hot panini with eggs bacon and cheese it was actually not bad for a hot and ready snacks. I also ordered iced caramel latte which was not that bad. The place has a shorter line than starbucks so we went ahead and tried this place on our way to our connecting flight. Service was pretty fast staff are pretty ok, the place was well kept and clean.

Yelp
Giving this 4 stars *for the airport* got a latte which was better than Dunkin' or stabucks so that's a win, line was much shorter too. Mostly grab n go options for food. Picked up a chicken Caesar salad, they definitely need to give some more dressing with it, but overall- what you'd expect from an airport place. Lots of overpriced snack options too, but that's what ya get if you don't bring your own snacks. I loved the blueberry muffin, they slightly warmed it up and it was delicious.

Yelp
Came here for a quick pre flight coffee. I ordered a matcha latte with oat milk and it was unfortunately very bad tasting. I took one sip and was almost nauseous. I really hate to bring anything I order back or complain but this was really bad. When I went to tell one of the women at the counter about my bad experience her response was not apologetic at all. She actually asked me "you know what a matcha is right, it's tea." That was genuinely very insulting. Yes, I know what I ordered...I ordered it. I politely let her know that I know exactly what matcha is and what they served me tasted nothing like it. The first guy that helped me also had a bad attitude. I know it's the airport, but goodness. An ounce of customer service goes such a long way. I was able to reorder a vanilla latte which was a little bit better, but not by much. I highly doubt I'd come here again.

Yelp
Coffee was at hot and brown Dunkin Donuts coffee has more flavor Service was fast and efficient

Yelp
The team member who took my order was nice. They had their "special cinnamon sugar matcha" on their board so I decided to give it a try. The team member making the drinks seemed annoyed that she had to make an iced matcha. I worked in the food service industry for years and even if you don't like making a certain item you don't do that in front of a customer. It made me feel super awkward. Thankfully the drink was made right in front of me or I would've been nervous about getting something extra in my drink. The matcha is just "okay." Not overly earthy, a little chalky, and not overly sweet. It'll do for today, but I wouldn't order it again. As always, I'll give anywhere another shot in case it was an "off day."

Yelp
An airport Beatrix was a glorious sight to see as I was making my red-eye layovers. The food here is good quality and the coffee can basically wake the dead.

Yelp
This review is for their Matcha Latte. Of the hundreds, maybe thousands of Matcha Latte's I've had in my life, this is the absolute worst version e.v.e.r. When I took the lid off, the foam was a weird green with brown tinge. I taste it and it tastes like coffee. I thought - please don't tell me they think a matcha latte means a "latte" (coffee or espresso with milk) with some matcha stirred in. I went to the counter to ask if they put coffee in their Matcha Latte since my husband had just gotten me one. Two members of the team looked at me incredulously as if everyone knew that and said "yes". I just walked away. Here's what the Internet, and my common sense says about Matcha Latte: How much coffee is in a matcha latte? Matcha latte is a delicious drink made with matcha tea, water and milk. See? No coffee to be found. Matcha Latte Fail And waste of good money.
google avatar

Ellen B.

Yelp
complete waste of money absolutely disgusting "breakfast sandwich" I so regret wasting $10 on this garbage. Please don't waste your money ! Zero taste , tasted like paper and staff was nasty..
google avatar

Holly T.

Yelp
$15 for a basic premade chicken Caesar salad, not including the tip that is requested. This may be the most expensive salad in CLT, and certainly the most underwhelming for the price.
google avatar

Trisha F.

Yelp
I asked for iced tea, and she said they were out, so I asked if she could create it by adding ice. The lady literally put a tea bag in cold water with ice without diffusing the tea bag in hot water for a few minutes lol. When I told her about this, she rolled her eyes at me, and with an annoyed tone said that's how they make it. She then said "Move over so I can help the next guest". Her tone was nasty. Luckily, her manager was incredibly nice, and redid the drink. He knew how to make it the right away! I really appreciated him, because I wasn't going to pay nearly $5 for a tea bag thrown on top of iced water. This lady needs to be retrained on costumer service.

Yelp
I ordered an ice matcha latte with oat milk. It wasn't the smoothest matcha latte I've had, definitely felt the clumps of the matcha powder as I sipped. The market had a few meal options like caesar salad and sandwiches. They also had canned/bottled drinks like sprite, la Colombe draft coffee, and flavored sparkling water. They also carried "healthier" brands of chips like hippeas. Service is quick and fast.

Yelp
What a lovely break from airport chaos to find friendly faces serving up incredible local coffee (all the milks!) and house-made grab & go pastries. I gobbled a giant salted chocolate chip cookie, but am looking forward to my return flight when I can snatch up a honey butter cinnamon biscuit - I have a feeling this is their signature. Word from management is you may be lucky to catch a fly-by celebrity dropping in, too!

Nicole C.

Yelp
Contact info would be appreciated! Phone # E-mail Anything?! I've searched everywhere and nothing comes up.

Yelp
Got a hot breakfast burrito here for $8. It was quick and efficient. Nothing fancy and it is what you paid for. Recommend this Beatrix Market. The line is a lot shorter than the Starbucks nearby.
google avatar

Marke J.

Yelp
That honey butter cinnamon roll gave everything it was supposed to give and some! So good! I often fly out of terminal C and this is now a forever stop before a flight out of CTL.
google avatar

Zara T.

Yelp
Honestly one of my favorite sandwiches, chicken and roasted tomatoes, this is a great grab and go option in the CLT airport! There are pre-made sandwiches, snacks, drinks, kombucha and some bakery items. The space is bright and cheerful, making it a welcome stop for a snack. There is seating if you'd like to grab and hang around and most items are prepackaged in case you're in a rush. Friendly staff! Reminds me a bit of my time in Chicago!

Maggie P.

Yelp
Place is clean, friendly, and organized, that is why two stars. On the other hand the food....I ordered an angel cake lemon muffin, it (was super dry) and the matcha latte no taste of matcha at all! And the cost was $13.00 for a dry muffin and tasteless latte.
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
Woooooof....grabbed a sandwich from the grab and go box. No prices listed anywhere which should have been the first warning sign. $15 for a sandwich. Not a sandwich and chips or a sandwich and a drink. $15 for a mediocre sandwich.

Debbie S.

Yelp
Extremely expensive -- I grabbed a caprese panini [ because there wasn't much of a sandwich choice left] as my flight was leaving around 8 pm -- and a blueberry muffin -- for a grand total of $19.94!!!! There were no prices posted anywhere in the vicinity -- at least nor did the wrapping nor the warmer had a list posted -- so you grab your items and go over to the cashiers and you get hit with the astonishing price. Not only that, my caprese panini was charged as a Ham & Swiss sandwich, but when I wanted to ask bout it -- the employees went MIA. Now I get that anything at the airport is expensive -- -But I could have gotten a nice combo meal at the fast food restaurant for less than that. Not happening again -- so be aware that this place is PRICEY!!! Imagine paying for a 12oz NY steak and getting a processed McDonald's patty.... that's how I felt.

Patrick G.

Yelp
Twice I have received a completely inedible sandwich from their grab and go, which is especially devastating when you're trying to grab something quick to make a tight connection. First visit: I grabbed a ham and cheese, received a single slice of ham and cheese between tick bread that reeked. Ate one bite and knew something was off Second visit: I grabbed a bacon egg and cheese on sourdough got an "egg" English muffin, but let me tell you: calling whatever was in the sandwich "egg" just isn't true. Whatever this substance was had the texture of plastic and neither looked nor smelled like eggs. I don't think this place cares about you. They just want your money when you're in a hurry.

Yelp
food was fair. tuna salad sandwich was a bit soggy (kind of expected it). The worst part I was traveling for business, and they couldn't give me the receipt, and just said it wouldn't print. Wouldn't even try. I thought, no problem, I'll just call later and get it. No phone number, no customer service. poorly managed.

N P.

Yelp
Excellent service and coffee here - good break from the usual airport fare (and prices). Near gate C9 but an easy walk from the main concourse. Definitely worth it for a good coffee - decaf, regular, or expresso. I got an off menu cafe au lait with oat milk (they also have other non-dairy milks like coconut) and really enjoyed it.

Yelp
On a crunch last night, With a 1:15am Departure time (One of those days!!) Beatrix Saved Me! I am Miami based and after I found our airplane was delayed coming in, I tried to head by the lower D gates Grill restaurant for a Salad only to find out they were closed. The main food court area, is the regular fast food fare which only helps to lead to health downfalls the more you have it. Searching the terminals I came upon Beatrix!!! First time here and you can bet I will become a regular. I had the perfect Greek salad that was enough for 2 ppl, and the purchased one of the separate containers of the a la carte Grilled Salmons! Heaven on earth! to top all off, terminal was Packed and I found an empty table to enjoy in peace. Great ambience as well.

Meredith F.

Yelp
fabulous service from the team at the charlotte airport! smiles! great service! and the best damn jasmine green tea i have ever had! thank you all!!

Tanya C.

Yelp
Awesome Service, refreshing food! Quite pricey though. I walked in to this place just now, ~2:45pm on a Friday, during a long layover in Charlotte, NC. The guys working today are fantastic!! I asked them what was good, they pointed out several popular items, & showed a lot of pride in their creations. I was laughing! That felt so good! The lady in charge handled business with professionalism & poise. There's a tip jar so I put a couple of bucks in it. They earned it! A chicken salad croissant & a coke cost $19.84 though...but airport food is expensive everywhere, true? Crunchy lettuce & fresh tomato slices were on the sandwich too. A bit bland but definitely REFRESHING. Next time, I'll ask for some condiments (mustard, or Mayo, or maybe some vinaigrette?). Their hot sandwiches (ham & Swiss, something else with gouda & onions, 3rd option was sold out), cold lemon herb salmon filet atop a salad, baked goods (eg, muffins), coconut water, coffee, & tea would be interesting to try. They were sold out of wraps, which the guys said was a popular item too. They only have 3 tables with 2 seats each. Finding a seat was not easy. (When I was done eating, I left the restaurant promptly. But, there was a guy & girl who were sitting at 1 of the 3 tables, & it appeared that they had finished eating before I even sat down to start eating--and they were still sitting there when I left--they really needed to give up their table. I aim to be more aware of my environment lol!) THANK YOU to the whole team working there this afternoon! Whoever hired them all did an awesome job this round! We might not always know what impact we have on another person's day--you all had an incredibly positive impact on mine!
