New Zealand Is the World's Next Hot Food Destination

"I visited Beau, the Auckland wine bar and deli run by Diva Giles and chef Logan Birch, where the owners talk about whakapapa — a layering of influences — and merge their British and Māori backgrounds with techniques and flavors learned in London, Paris, and from Filipino and Indian colleagues, producing dishes such as a pan‑fried bluenose with squid‑ink fregola." - Jeff Chu Jeff Chu Jeff Chu is an editor-at-large at Travel + Leisure. Had dinner at Beau with extended family to celebrate my Masters graduation. And as always, the team delievered. The food and wine selection were amazing, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Special shout-out to Marlise, who accommodated the myriad changes to the plan for the evening with professional ease, even the changes we made during the afternoon leading up to the dinner. The food is great, but it's the staff at Beau who make dining there such an experience, and that's why we keep coming back. A perfect evening to cap off (excuse the pun) an amazing day.

Managed to get the last table walk-in on a Friday evening. Great food. Recommend the oysters, lamb ribs, and the cauliflower. (2022) Updated 2025-01: Visited Beau again on a weekday evening. Food and service were excellent. The lamb ribs and cauliflower are superb. We got the Prawn PoBoys but felt it was just mediorcre. Beef ribs was alright as well, though I especially liked the plated mash underneath the meat - quite flavorful and unique. In summary, I would recommend to stick with the former. Wine by glass selection was great and allowed tasting before choosing to go with a particular, which is very much appreciated.

I had heard great things about Beau but our dinner and drinks on Friday night exceeded all expectations. The lamb ribs were the standout dish (you must try them), the prawn po boy was great and the classic margaritas were so good we ended up purchasing a couple each. Highly recommend to all. Updated Comment: Everything’s over-salted, the liver parfait is still good with the softer baguette when compared to previous visits (which makes it better), and that the service is still top notch. Original Comment: We sampled the oysters, grilled cauliflower, chicken liver parfait, and finished with the chocolate dessert. Unfortunately, the oysters were a let-down. Despite their price, they contained shell fragments, and the flavour fell short. The dessert, while rich, leaned too bitter with a tangy edge from the crème fraîche. It would have paired perfectly with coffee, but since the deli was closed, no coffee was available — an unfortunate end to the meal. On a brighter note, the grilled cauliflower was exceptional. The flavours were perfectly balanced, and the texture was spot-on. As for the chicken liver parfait, while its pink hue may not have been the most visually appealing, the taste was phenomenal, especially when paired with the toasted baguette. These dishes is an absolute must-try. The service was outstanding, with the staff being attentive throughout. I’ll definitely be returning for a special occasion—simply amazing!

Everything a neighbourhood wine bar ought to be. Beau pairs a stellar, thoughtfully curated wine list with staff who are as engaging as they are knowledgeable, all set against a buzzy, unpretentious backdrop. The beef tartare is mandatory! Beau will certainly be high on my priority list the next time I am in Auckland.

We had the most gorgeous lunch here for our anniversary. The staff were super friendly, helpful, and the food was better than some of the restaurants we'd eaten at in London and Europe (I've had my fair share of badly prepared octopus). All the ingredients tasted fresh and were well executed. We were too full to fit in dessert this time around, but nothing is stopping us from visiting again to try the sweet selection.

My family and I really enjoyed our time at Beau!! We had an amazing dinner and received great service from our waitress, she was so sweet! I booked a large group dinner with short notice and it was sorted out so nicely with the host and she catered to all my requests. Thank you to the front and back of house staff for our great family night!

Best wine bar I've been to! They have many wines available by the glass, several are from 2015 vintage, and they had some older wines available on the blackboard, too. This is a winelovers and wine industry person (also wine lover) wine bar. It's like being a child in a candy store. You want it all, and you don't know where to start. The best winelist, in my opinion, is one that has so many wines you want to try, so you keep ordering until you've tried them all. They have such an exciting winelist, I loved it here. My parents enjoyed it too. The service was excellent. The guy was friendly, professional, and welcoming. The food was divine. This is the type of place you can spend hours catching up with friends or family. I'll definitely be going back next time I'm in Auckland! The place was full when we got there. These photos were taken once most customers had left.
